Apple slowly catches up to Samsung in the falling smartphone market

Over the last couple of years, the global smartphone market has seen a slight decline. There were many factors that led to the market shrinking, but it appears that Apple is slowly catching up to Samsung in the handset segment despite this decline.

apple

According to a Canalys report, the overall market for smartphones saw a decline of 9 percent year on year during the months of July and September this year. In other words, the third quarter of 2022 saw noticeable decline over last year. The decline in shipments affected four of the world’s top five smartphone brands as well. Looking at the market standing, Samsung still leads the pack with a 22 percent market share. Meanwhile, Apple came in second with 18 percent, and Xiaomi took the third spot with 14 percent.

Oppo and Vivo rounded up the top 5 list with both brands having a 10 percent and 9 percent market share respectively. However, despite leading the smartphone market, the South Korean tech giant only saw a slight growth. On the other hand, the Cupertino based company saw a higher growth in terms of both market share and even sales numbers as well during this period. In other words, the iPhone maker can be considered the true winner in the third quarter of this year.

Apple is also just a meager 4 percent points behind Samsung in market share. This is lower than the 6 percent gap between the two consumer electronic giants. Meaning, Apple is slowly but surely catching up to Samsung. Furthermore, with the holiday season being just around the corner, which is one of the strongest periods for the brand, we can expect Apple to soon overtake Samsung. Last year, it had a 22 percent market share in the final quarter, over Samsung’s 20 percent. But this narrow lead might widen further this year.

HP Windows laptop ad mistakenly uses Apple macOS screenshot

Windows and macOS have been the two major PC operating systems for a while now, with long debates over which is better. But it seems that HP might be leaning more towards Apple’s software, since its new Windows Laptop ad features a screenshot from macOS.

Ironically, the advertisement was for “The perfect laptop,” in other words the PC maker believes that the perfect laptop is one that runs macOS. The brand had promoted this laptop on Reddit and shared a poster image. However, this HP ad mistakenly carries a macOS screenshot. So, it is clear that someone in marketing might have made a big mistake with Photoshop for the ad.

The ad reads “For the digital nomads and work from anywhere but home types (yeah, we see you), HP has perfect laptops for wherever you’re working from.” Despite one assuming you’d see a Windows UI on this laptop, you’re greeted with a Gmail inbox screen in Chrome that has an Apple logo clearly visible in the menu bar.

For those unaware, Apple’s licensing agreements have ensured that the macOS platform can not be run on any PCs outsideof Macs. However, there is a dedicated Hackintosh community that unofficially install and run macOS on PCs. But since HP clearly isn’t partnering up with Apple in such a close manner, this is just a minor accident.

Lenovo Yoga Paper E Ink tablet live images leaked

Under the Yoga branding, Lenovo has sold a number of PCs that include notebooks and tablets. Now, the latest leak reveals that the company is working on another new Yoga device, which is the Yoga Paper E Ink tablet.

The news arrives from a tweet from Liliputing. In the tweet, live images of this Yoga Paper E Ink tablet were shared along with some details. Apparently, the images were recently shared on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website). Looking at these pictures, we can see that the packaging of the tablet and even the tablet itself, which is also paired with a digital pen. While the Chinese PC maker has made 2 in 1 laptops that have an E Ink touchscreen panel, it does not have a E Ink tablet in the Yoga lineup.

So now, it appears that the Yoga Paper E Ink tablet will be filling in this role. We can see that it comes with a digital pen attached that also has a protective cover that should function as a stand as well. Since we can also see the retail box of this product, we can also safely assume that its launch is just around the corner. It is clearly set to launch in China but its availability outside of this region is still unclear at the moment. The Yoga Paper E Ink tablet appears to have a display size of around 11 inches and will likely target the E Ink Tablet market.

Unfortunately, this is all the information we have and as of right now, no finer details like specifications are known. But, further leaks should appear closer to launch or we might see the official announcement come sooner as well. So stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

B&W PX8 007 edition headphones celebrates James Bond’s 60th anniversary

Bowers & Wilkins has just launched a new special edition headphone that celebrates the 60th anniversary of James Bond. The new device is the “bespoke PX8 007 Edition” B&W headphones, which carry a unique design that is inspired by the famous British spy.

Notably, the new Bowers & Wilkins PX8 007 edition headphones features a design that celebrates the Midnight Blue tuxedo worn by James Bond in 1962’s Dr. No. In other words, it is a direct homage to the beginning of the iconic character based on Ian Fleming’s spy novels. Interestingly, the collaboration between the popular film series and Bowers & Wilkins arrives as B&W just became the partner of the James Bond franchise.

While the collaboration might seem odd, music has been an iconic part of the franchise itself. You can still clearly hum the original and legendary theme song of James Bond that was created by Monty Norman. So, it is not surprising that the series partners with an audio based company that has been a known brand in the high end premium audio products segment that ranges from the luxury speakers, HiFi and Home Cinema, and even hearable devices as well.

The new PX8 007 Edition is basically the B&W PX8 wireless headphones but with a unique new design. It now features a Midnight Blue finish inspired by the dinner jacket worn by Bond in his first ever screen appearance (played by Sean Connery). The new PX8 007 model will be available on the 007Store.com and the official Bowers & Wilkins website as well and will go on sale on 19th October 2022. Being a premium special edition product it carries a hefty price tag of 799 US Dollars.

Previous leaks and rumors around the Galaxy S23 series pointed to a close semblance with the Galaxy S22 lineup. The hard cases of the Galaxy S23 series are similar but the vanilla model has a smaller case while the Ultra sports the largest case. There are two additional cutouts for the Galaxy S23 Ultra to take care of a fourth camera and a laser autofocus unit.

The Galaxy S23 series have also gotten the 3C certification in China fuelling suggestions that it could be released soon. It is also speculated that the S23 lineup could arrive earlier than the S22. Unlike the S22, the Galaxy S23 series will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will also come with a monster 200MP camera and will be Samsung’s first phone with a such camera.

Apple reportedly cuts production capacity of iPhone 14 Plus due to weak sales

Apple recently launched the latest iPhone lineup in the form of the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro series. This time, the company has also introduced the iPhone 14 Plus model as a replacement for the Mini model. But it appears that things aren’t going as planned for the Cupertino-based technology giant.

According to the latest report, Apple has cut down the production capacity of the iPhone 14 Plus model because of weak sales. The phone is basically the iPhone 14 with a bigger screen and a bit higher price tag.

iPhone 14
Apple iPhone 14 and Apple iPhone 14 Plus

As per the report from The Information, Apple has instructed its manufacturers in China to immediately halt production of a component for the phone. It further adds that two other suppliers that assemble modules from that component have also significantly cut production.

It appears that customers are leaning more towards the iPhone 14 Pro as the pricing is just $100 more than the 14 Plus model but comes with several new features, including upgraded internals. The demand for the standard iPhone 14 isn’t as per the company’s expectations as Apple dropped the plan to boost production last month.

Some reports indicate that the iPhone 14 Pro series has strong demand from customers. It remains to be seen how the economic conditions in several countries affect the company’s sales. Despite the weak demand for the iPhone 14 Plus, it is being reported that the company still plans to launch the iPhone 15 Plus model next year.
