It is a very well balanced phone and it has very powerful hardware, which is why a lot of experts tend to consider it as their purchase. And that is also the reason why we decided to write several comparisons including this device. Today, we chose the Xiaomi 12S because, given that it is the vanilla variant of the 12S series, it has a very interesting price just like the Motorola. So, here you can find a comparison between the main specifications of the Xiaomi 12S and the Motorola S30 Pro which will highlight the differences between these two phones and let you understand which one fits your needs the most.

Design

When it comes to aesthetics, the Xiaomi 12S is very interesting because it is one of the most compact flagships, thanks to the presence of a smaller display. It is also built with premium materials: glass for the rear cover (protected by Gorilla Glass Victus) and aluminum for the frame, and there is also a special color option with a leather back. The Motorola S30 Pro is bigger and chunkier, but it is still very nice thanks to its curved screen at the edges, like several top-tier flagships. Further, it has a glass back protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and it is splash and dust resistant. It is even thinner and lighter than its rival. Which one has the best design? It mostly depends on your tastes: do you prefer a curved screen at the edges or a more compact body with a higher build quality?

Display

On paper, the Xiaomi 12S looks to have a better display in terms of image quality. It has a 6.28-inch panel able to show up to 68 billion colors with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and the HDR10+ certification, as well as the Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The only advantage of the Motorola Moto S30 Pro is the higher 144 Hz refresh rate, but for the rest, it looks inferior. It has a P-OLED display with one billion colors, a Full HD+ resolution, the HDR10+ certification, and a diagonal of 6.55 inches. However, you should note that the 12S is not for everyone due to its small 6.28-inch display. Both devices are equipped with an in-display fingerprint reader, but the Xiaomi 12S is the only one with stereo speakers on board.

Specs & Software

The most powerful processor is mounted on the Xiaomi 12S. It is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform, currently the best chipset by Qualcomm, built with a 4 nm production process. It has an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X2 CPU running at a max frequency of 3.19 GHz, three Cortex A710 CPUs running at a frequency of 2.75 GHz, four Cortex A510 CPUs running at 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 730 GPU. The SoC is paired with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. With the Motorola Moto S30 Pro, you actually get a Snapdragon 888 Plus mobile platform by Qualcomm built with a 5 nm production process. It is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but it is not so far. It has an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X1 CPU running at a max frequency of 2.99 GHz, three Cortex A78 CPUs running at 2.42 GHz, four Cortex A55 CPUs running at 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 660 GPU. The highest-end memory configuration is the same and both the phones run Android 12 out of the box.

Camera

The camera setup of the Xiaomi 12S is slightly better than the one found on the Motorola Moto S30 Pro. The handset has a triple camera setup including a 50 MP main sensor with OIS, a 13 MP ultrawide camera, a 5 MP telephoto macro lens, and a 32 MP selfie shooter. With the Motorola, you get a 50 MP main camera with OIS, a 13 MP ultrawide sensor, a 2 MP depth sensor, and a 32 MP selfie snapper.

Battery

Despite the Xiaomi 12S being a smaller phone, it has a bigger battery than the Motorola S30 Pro. And, given that it has a smaller display and a more efficient chipset, it should last more on a single charge in several scenarios. The wired charging speeds of these two phones are similar, but the Xiaomi 12S is the only one to support wireless charging, with a power of 50W.

Price

The Xiaomi 12S carries a starting price tag of €570/$570 at the actual change, while you need just €330/$330 to purchase the base configuration of the Motorola Moto S30 Pro. If we exclude the dimensions and if you like having a compact phone, the Xiaomi 12S wins this comparison, but with a lower value for money.

Apple Crash Detection feature announced: what it is, how it works, and more

At last night’s ‘Far Out’ event, Apple unveiled its much anticipated flagship iPhone 14 lineup. The Cupertino-based brand also launched the Watch Series 8. Additionally, the company also introduced a new feature called Crash Detection for the newly announced devices. Apple says that it hopes that users will not need the feature but it should make them feel a little safer when they are travelling by car. Notably, Google has been offering car crash detection for some time on its Pixel smartphones.

Apple Crash Detection

The Crash Detection feature is a new Emergency function that can save the users lives in case of a car crash. Driving on the road is unpredictable and dangerous at times. Apple’s latest Watch Series 8 and the iPhone 14 lineup are capable of detecting the impact of a car crash and after 10 seconds, the feature will automatically notify the user’s emergency contact and provide them with the current location. It’s worth noting that the function only works when the user is driving.

For those wondering how the Crash Detection feature works, both the Watch Series 8 and the iPhone 14 lineup come equipped with two new motion sensors – an improved 3-axis gyroscope and a high-G-force accelerometer. The latter can measure up to 256 G’s and it has four times faster sampling rate of over 3,000 times a second. Apple has also built an advanced sensor algorithm to accurately enable the feature. In addition to the motion sensor, the Crash Detection also barometer, GPS, and microphone on a paired iPhone to detect whether a severe crash has taken place. All this enables to detect the precise moment of impact.

When a severe crash has taken place, the emergency services interface will appear on the Apple Watch Series 8 as well as the iPhone 14 series. Apple says that the emergency function can detect crashes in cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. It also focuses on four types of crashes including front impact, side impact, rear-ends collision, and rollovers. The feature runs and processes data only while driving and around the time of a possible accident. Additionally, Apple does not collect the data and it stays on the device.

In the announcement, Apple said that it has studied vehicle impacts at state-of-the-art crash test labs for years and that its algorithm has been trained on over 1 million hours of real-world driving and crash data.

Apple faces $2 million fine in Brazil, ban imposed on iPhones sold without charger

Apple has just been hit with another sizeable fine. The company has been facing friction in the Brazilian market for a while, and now, it faces a 2 million US Dollar fine as well as a possible ban on some of its iPhone models.

Apple

The Ministry of Justice in Brazil has imposed a a fine of 12.275 million Brazilian Real, which is around 2.34 million US Dollars. For those unaware, the Cupertino based giant has been facing issues in the region ever since it decided to stop shipping its iPhones with a charger included in the box. So now, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice has imposed a ban to stop the sales of all iPhone models that don’t ship with an included power adapter.

Following this ruling, Apple has issues a statement in response to the fine and the ban. As per this statement, the company said that it would work to resolve any concerns of the National Consumer Secretary (SENACON), which is a department under the Ministry of Justice that decided on the fine. Apple’s Brazil unit said that “We have already won several court rulings in Brazil on this matter and we are confident that our customers are aware of the various options for charging and connecting their devices.”

Apple

The fine isn’t going to be immediately imposed, although, it will go into effect once the Ministry verifies that Apple has circumvented the sales ban that it plans on enforcing. At the moment, the Ministry argues that the fine and ban on the iPhone maker is being imposed due to the brand selling an incomplete product since it did not include the power adapter.
