India notices a 5% QoQ decline in smartphone shipments, Xiaomi leads the race in terms of sales

In Q2 2022 (April–June), India shipped about 37 million smartphones, an increase of 9% YoY but a decline of 5% QoQ, per the most recent analysis from Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service. The second COVID-19 wave caused a smaller base in Q2 2021, which was the main factor in the YoY growth. Macroeconomic factors that are impacting consumer demand are what caused the QoQ decline.

According to Counterpoint, Senior Research Analyst Prachir Singh commented on the market dynamics, saying, “We saw the consumer demand declining QoQ during the quarter, especially in May and June. Consumers are preferring to repair their device or buy a refurbished one than make a new purchase. This trend is more visible in the entry and budget segments. Due to this decline in demand, almost all the brands are facing inventory issues. At the end of June, India’s smartphone market was sitting on more than 10 weeks of inventory, more than double the normal inventory size. Brands were seen aggressively promoting offers to clear this inventory and prepare for the festive season.”

The market for mobile phones in India increased by 6% YoY but decreased by 9% QoQ in Q2 2022. The fall in consumer demand was the main factor in the feature phone market’s QoQ decline of 17%. In Q2 2022, itel has a 25% market share in India’s feature phone market. For ten consecutive quarters, Itel has been the leading feature phone manufacturer.

Xiaomi continued to dominate the Indian smartphone market despite a 26 percent year-over-year fall. Samsung kept down the number two position in Q2 2022 with a 14% YoY growth. It continued to be the most popular 5G smartphone brand in India.

Vivo, Realme, OPPO, and others follow in the third, fourth, and fifth spots respectively.

Samsung is gearing up to host its highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event, which is set for August 10. During this event, the company will be announcing its latest generation of foldable smartphones, namely Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Now, the company has also started the pre-reservations for both models.

As of right now, the South Korean tech giant has began taking pre-reservation orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. For those unaware, pre-reservations can have early customers gain access to additional benefits and you can pre-reserve both models for a price of just 1,999 INR (roughly 25 US Dollars). Through this, one can be eligible for benefits worth 5,000 INR (roughly 63 US Dollars) after the delivery.

While the pricing for the Indian market has yet to be officially revealed, the company is believe to price the Galaxy Z Flip 4 around 1,080 Euros (roughly 1,108 US Dollars) for its base variant. Unfortunately, the pricing for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 model is still unknown at the moment. Talking about the smartphones itself, Galaxy Z Flip 4 will sport a 6.7 inch AMOLED 120Hz primary display and a 1.9 inch AMOLED secondary screen. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will sport a 7.6 inch AMOLED 120Hz main display and a 6.2 inch external screen.

Both models are expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and will likely feature up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is expected to be powered by a 4,400mAh battery pack that supports 25W fast charging while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also believed to feature the same battery parameters. Samsung is gearing up to launch its next generation of foldable smartphones at the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for August 10. The company is expected to debut the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 at this launch event.

Ahead of the launch, the alleged press release renders have already leaked for both the Fold 4 and Flip 4. Now, Samsung’s Care+ UK insurance site has revealed all the color and storage options of the upcoming foldables.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 will come in 128GB and 256GB storage sizes and is mentioned in blue, bora purple, graphite, and pink gold colors. Additionally, Samsung’s Bespoke customizer will provide a wide range of additional color possibilities, including options for the phone’s frame in the colors of black, silver, and gold, as well as the back panels in the hues of green, navy, red, yellow, and white.

The Galaxy Z Fold4 will come in 256GB and 512GB storage options and will be offered in beige, grey/green, and phantom black colors. Whether the device will offer bespoke customization choices is unknown.

Other than these smartphones, the listing also reveals details about the new Galaxy Watch5 series, which will also be making its debut on August 10. According to the Samsung Care+ site, the 40mm and 45mm sizes of the Galaxy Watch5 will be offered in graphite, silver, gold, and blue hues. The Samsung Watch5 will be available with Bluetooth and LTE connectivity choices. It will also come in two sizes and a single graphite color in a special Golf edition.

Xiaomi 12T key specs leaked, with Dimensity 8100 Ultra, 108MP triple cameras, & more

We already know that Xiaomi is planning on launching the Xiaomi 12T series soon. However, prior to their official announcement, the key specifications of the base 12T model has been leaked.

The news arrives from a XiaomiUI report, which revealed some of the important specifications of the smartphone. For those unaware, the Xiaomi 12T will be a new premium grade handset that the Chinese tech giant is planning on releasing soon. Now, the new report has revealed that the 12T model will apparently be equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Ultra SoC. The chipset in question will reportedly be based on the 5nm process, however, not a lot more is known regarding this processor.

Furthermore, the new MediaTek chip is rumored to be paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. On the front, the device will apparently sport an OLED display that has a 2712 x 1220 pixel resolution. Apart from this, the screen panel will also have an in display fingerprint scanner as well. Meanwhile, the rear of the device is expected to feature a triple camera setup that consists of a 108 megapixel primary shooter, which is a Samsung ISOCELL HM6 sensor.

This sensor will be paired with an 8 megapixel Samsung S5K4H7 ultra wide angle lens and another 2 megapixel macro sensor. On the other hand, the front will house a 20 megapixel Sony IMX596 selfie shooter. While the report does not reveal any details regarding the battery size, we can expect the Xiaomi 12T model to support 67W or even 120W fast charging out of the box.

When the support page for an upcoming device goes live on Samsung’s website, it usually means the product’s launch is imminent. Hence, the Galaxy A04s could release soon as its support page is now up on Samsung’s UK website.

The support pages are not known for revealing anything new about the device. That’s the case here too. But we already know almost everything about the handset.

The Samsung Galaxy A04s will arrive with a new back design inspired by the Galaxy S22 Ultra. In other words, its rear cameras will be placed separately in a vertical manner.

The phone will be built around a 6.5-inch display (LCD) sporting a dewdrop notch. It will be powered by an Exynos 850 SoC and will boot Android 12.

Being a budget smartphone, the handset will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a MicroSD card slot. The connectivity options on it will include 4G, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC (market dependent), and USB Type-C. It will also come equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Realme to launch 5G phone under Rs 15,000 & Realme 10 series later this year

Realme is gearing up to launch a couple of new smartphones in India. The company’s CEO for the Indian market Madhav Sheth revealed that the brand will soon be releasing at least four new handsets in India, which includes the Realme 10 series.

The senior official revealed this information in an interview with GSMArena, and also added that the company will be releasing these new smartphone in the second half of this year. Out of these four possible models, Realme will also be launching a new 5G enabled smartphone under the 15,000 INR (roughly 190 US Dollars) price range. According to Madhav Sheth, this is a “much needed addition especially ahead of India’s 5G rollout expected to happen in the second half of 2022.”

Apart from this, the executive also shared that the company will enter 2 to 3 new categories in the ‘consumer durable segment.’ Furthermore, he also stated that the brand will be sharing more details regarding these upcoming launches soon. Sheth said that the shipments of the upcoming Realme smartphones will be ‘smoother’ in the second half of this year as the global chip shortage is beginning to subside.

In other words, we can expect the Realme 10 series will likely launch sometime before October 2022. On the other hand, it is also possible that these launches arrive sometime around or before the Diwali festival season sales in India. Motorola will be hosting a launch event in China tomorrow (August 2) to unveil the Moto Edge X30 Pro and Razr 2022. According to certifications, the company may announce yet another phone called Moto S30 Pro (XT2243). This device has been now spotted on Geekbench.

A few days back, almost entire specs of the upcoming Moto S30 Pro leaked via TENAA. Now, the smartphone has appeared on Geekbench revealing its chipset.

TENAA listings don’t describe the name of the chip and neither does Geekbench. But we can get the exact configuration of SoCs from the latter to find out their names. Hence, now we know that the forthcoming Moto S30 Pro with model number XT2243 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset.

For the unaware, this is the same chip that’s found inside the Moto Edge S30. Though their names sound somewhat similar, the two phones are different in terms of features.

As per TENAA, the Motorola Moto S30 Pro will arrive with a 6.55-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FHD+). The handset may have a dual-camera system on the rear with support for up to 8K video recording and will boot Android 12.

The device will come with 8GB/12GB/16GB RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB storage. It will be backed by a 4,270mAh battery and 3C says that it will carry support for 68.2W fast wired charging.

The smartphone will measure 158.4 x 71.9 x 7.6mm in dimensions and weigh 170 grams. Last but not least, it will be available in black, gold, blue, white, cyan, red, silver, and gray color options.

OnePlus has just launched a new truly wireless earbuds in India earlier today (1st August 2022). The new earbuds are the Nord Buds CE, which is the company’s 2nd TWS models from its Nord branding. So let’s have a look at its specifications and pricing.

Talking about the wireless earphones first, the new earbuds feature a semi in ear style design along with a short stem. It is equipped with a 13.4mm dynamic bass drivers as well as Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity. Since its a part of the more budget friendly Nord family, the OnePlus Nord Buds CE do not offer active noise cancellation. However, it arrives with AI noise cancellation for calls.

The new earphones also supports the AAC and SBC formats. Each individual buds weigh just 3.5 grams and pack a 27mAh battery pack that can offer up to 4.5 hours of audio playback and 3 hours of phone call. The Nothing Phone (1) is receiving another new software update. This time the company is offering updates that helps improve the charging performance of the new smartphone as well as bring changes to its UI (User Interface). So let’s have a look.

As per official notes, the company is now rolling out the new Nothing OS 1.1.2 update across the globe. With the new update, Phone (1) users can expect to see some improvements in the UI along with multiple optimizations for performance and even plenty of bug fixes. This software update is the third one from the company so far but is by far the smallest upgrade yet, with a total update size of just 38.28MB.

At the moment, Phone (1) users will already be receiving this update, which should bring a number of changes. Now, the new smartphone will still show the fingerprint icon even when the display is turned off, although this is optional and can be toggled from the settings. Furthermore, the Always on Display will now be turned off during the night by default to avoid excessive battery drain during evenings.

Now, the latest report indicates that the upcoming Huawei Mate 50 RS smartphone may not be powered by the Kirin 9000 series processor because the the company has almost run out of the Kirin chips.

There have been reports about the upcoming smartphone from the company to come powered by the Kirin 9000S processor. It is not yet known which processor will power the smartphone if not the company’s own Kirin lineup chip.

The Honor 50 series smartphones are expected to come with new features for the camera department, along with support for Huawei Image XMAGE. The phones are expected to come with upgraded internals compared to their predecessor, but will still be 4G-only.

In line with other smartphones from Huawei, the Huawei Mate 50 series phones will come running the company’s own HarmonyOS 3.0, which is called HongMeng OS in China. This is because Huawei is still banned from using Google’s Android operating system.

It is being said that the Huawei Mate 50 series smartphones may get launched in early September, most likely in the second week. The company will announce three models, dubbed as Huawei Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro, and Mate 50 RS.

A Galaxy Earlybird To Go service has been introduced by Samsung in South Korea. Customers can apply for this initiative and test new Galaxy devices and wearable items before others. Users are being asked to contribute stories about how they envision using the new Galaxy products—alone or with others. Samsung is asking people to submit their short stories, from which a winner will be chosen at random. Winners will be among the first to use Galaxy devices.

At the next Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event, Samsung is anticipated to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. Users who sign up for the “Galaxy Earlybird To Go” service will have the chance to use these products before anyone else. Samsung currently only offers this “Galaxy Earlybird To Go” service in South Korea.

Samsung will take entries from July 28 through August 3, and winners will be announced on August 8th, 2022. A few days ago, Honor announced new smart TVs in its home market China under two different series — Honor Smart Screen X3 and Smart Screen X3i.

While the Honor Smart Screen X3i went on sale last week, the Honor Smart Screen X3 series Smart TVs are now available for purchase in the Chinese market.

Vivo is preparing to launch a new budget range smartphone in the market dubbed the Vivo Y02s. Last week, the Y02s was spotted on the FCC certification website, and now, the device has appeared on the company’s global website.

The Vivo Y02s made a brief appearance on Vivo’s website earlier today, revealing its key specifications. The listing has since been taken down, however, it was up long enough for us to confirm that the smartphone has a 6.51-inch HD+ IPS LCD display with a dew-drop notch, HD+ resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. It has a flat back panel made out of polycarbonate and flat edges with curved ends to make the device comfortable to hold for the user.

The Y02s has a MediaTek Helio P35 chipset under the hood with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The battery has a 5,000mAh capacity and comes with support for 10W charging via a USB Type-C port. Vivo claims that the phone can offer up to 18 hours of online HD video streaming, 7 hours of gaming, or 22 hours of music playback. As for the camera module, it has two circular cutouts, one of which houses the 8-megapixel primary sensor while the other houses an LED flash. On the front, the smartphone brings a 5-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calls.

Other than that, the listing has also revealed the color variants of the device – Fluorite Black and Vibrant Blue. However, its exact date of launch and pricing is still under wraps.

The BenQ EX240N gaming monitor with the MOBIUZ VA panel and 4ms response time has been unveiled. The new gaming monitor has a 165Hz refresh rate and offers a 1080p video resolution. It also supports AMD FreeSync Premium and has dual 2.5W speakers. The EX240N has a 23.8-inch display offering up to 250 nits of brightness. The gaming monitor has a contrast ratio of 3000:1 and 72% NTSC color space coverage.

Its super low latency with a 1ms MPRT response time and 165Hz refresh rate will be a delight for gamers. The dual speaker system of the gaming monitor accounts for some proportion of its 40W power consumption. This can be significantly reduced when it is connected to a headphone via its 3.5mm jack. The gaming monitor also features HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 connections. You can use the new BenQ gaming monitor for current gaming consoles although its maximum refresh rate is only achieved via its DisplayPort input from a PC.

BenQ has not provided release and availability details yet but the monitor could retail for about $200. The FPS mode, AMD FreeSync Premium, and Motion Blur Reduction are all featured in the EX240N. An alternative model, the EX240 comes with a 10cm adjustable stand and will cost $240. The EX240 also features an additional HDMI port and swivel capabilities.

BenQ says the EX240N is designed to evoke an immersive gaming experience with its subtle and realistic colors. It will deliver the highest quality expected by gamers. The fast response time and no tearing present are also key highlights of the new BenQ gaming monitor. A 3-year limited warranty is available for the BenQ EX240N gaming monitor.

Redmi Note 11 SE to launch soon in India as a rebranded Redmi Note 10S

Redmi Note-11 series is quite popular in India and it has decent smartphones including the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, Note 11T 5G, and more. Now, it seems that the company is going to launch yet another smartphone under the Note-11 series. As per a tipster, the new smartphone will be a rebranded Redmi Note 10S and will be called Redmi Note 11 SE.

Noted tipster Kacper Skrzypek has spotted the moniker “Redmi Note 11 SE” in the MIUI code. However, the tipster claims that the device is for the Indian market and will be different from the one launched in China earlier this year. The MIUI code reveals that the device will be a rebranded Redmi Note 10S that was launched last year.

It is also claimed that the same device will also debut in some markets as the Poco M5s, which has already been spotted on multiple certifications sites.

If this leak is anything to go by, the Note 11 SE will likely have the same specs as the 10S, which means it will feature a 6.43-inch AMOLED display that offers a Full HD+ resolution and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. It could be powered by a MediaTek Helio G95 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

As far as the cameras are concerned, Redmi Note 11 SE may house a quad-camera setup on the back consisting of a 64-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a pair of 2-megapixel sensors for depth and macro. The device will be fueled by a 5000mAh battery supporting 33W fast charging. On the software front, it may run MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box.

Lenovo has unveiled the Legion Y700 Ultimate Edition tablet with an 8-inch display in China. The new Android tablet also features a color-changing glass back and is offered at a discounted price of 3,299 yuan (~$489). As with the Legion Y700, the Lenovo Legion Y700 Ultimate Edition may not be globally available yet.

The standard model, the Legion Y700 was released in China last February. The Legion Y700 Ultimate Edition comes with identical features to the standard model. The tablet is a great gaming device and is as compact as it can get for an Android tablet. It is powered by a Snapdragon 870 chipset and has a chrome shell exterior design. The LCD panel of the Legion Y700 has a 120Hz display refresh rate. Two color options are available for the new tablet namely ice white and glare blue.

The Legion Y700 Ultimate Edition is priced at 3,699 yuan (~$549) and it includes an inductive rear glass panel. The glass back changes colors while the tablet is in operation and could be exciting to gamers. The illuminating effects of RGB lighting during gaming can give a lift to some gaming enthusiasts.

There are now three versions of the model in China while it remains unavailable globally. Gaming enthusiasts outside China who are desirous of trying their hands on a compact Android gaming tablet could get it via resellers. Lenovo remains silent on scaling up the availability of the Legion Y700 tablet.

The earbuds have a number of touch controls that enable users to adjust the volume, decline or answer calls, disable game mode, activate voice assistant, and more.

Only Black is available in terms of color options for the Redmi Buds 3 Lite. The Redmi Buds 3 Lite’s earbuds weigh 4.2 grams each and have dimensions of 24.5 x 16.7 x 24.6mm. The charging case weighs 35 grams and has dimensions of 60 by 46 by 23.7mm.
