A British man has gotten back his lost iPhone ten months after it fell into a river. The news of the amazing recovery was reported in both print and social media in the UK. The incident happened in August 2021 when Edinburgh-based Owain Davies dropped his iPhone while canoeing on the Wye River.
Interestingly, the phone was discovered by another person canoeing across the river a few weeks back. Miguel Pacheco saw the iPhone floating on the river, retrieved and dried it, then posted its photos on a public Facebook group. He felt the need to return the iPhone to its owner who may have sentimental photos and videos still on the phone. Impressively, after drying the iPhone, Pacheco was able to charge the phone and the lock screen came up. The date on the device was August 13, which was the day it fell into the river.
Pacheco’s Facebook post was shared over 4,000 times and friends of the owner identified him as the man in the lock screen photo on the iPhone. Davies himself had been away from the internet for about six months. Davies was subsequently reunited with the iPhone.
This is yet another of the numerous survival stories of the Apple iPhone. It brings to the fore once more the ruggedness of iPhones. A device that stayed about 10 months underwater was able to turn on again. There are no indications of the full workability of the recovered iPhone, but the story remains impressive.

The soon-to-be-released Nothing Phone (1) has been confirmed to be powered by the Snapdragon 778G+ SoC. The Nothing Phone (1) is a transparent smartphone that is expected to be unveiled on July 12. The smartphone’s chipset seems to be the last puzzle to be unearthed for the much-hyped device.
The Nothing Phone (1) comes with a unique transparent design. Its images and videos have serenaded customers’ imagination since Nothing started releasing them. It has a Glyph interface consisting of 900 embedded LEDs. These lights up the phone during notifications, camera use, and so on. The Nothing Phone (1) will launch in Europe and the United Kingdom. The Nothing Phone (1) will most likely skip the US market, as per current feelers.
It is rumored that an enthusiastic customer has paid $3,064 via StockX to be among the selected first 100 owners of the phone. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G+ chipset is a mid-range processor and is custom-tuned for the Phone (1). It is less powerful than the premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. It remains to be seen how the stated SD 778G+ chip will place the Nothing Phone (1) performance-wise.
The Snapdragon 778G+ chip features wireless charging and reverse wireless charging unlike the base chip the SD 778G. So, it straddles between the mid-range and flagship cadre due to a few features. The choice of a mid-range chipset for the Phone (1) was driven by performance, power consumption, and cost considerations.
Nothing’s co-founder Carl Pei feels the Phone (1) meets all these considerations. While a specific price has not been announced yet for the Phone (1), we expect to know more in the coming days. It is however rumored that the Phone (1) could be priced under $500. The company claims more than 100,000 customers are on the pre-order waiting list.

In the documentary, there is a video interview of Apple’s marketing chief Greg Joswiak, iPhone co creator Tony Fadell, and a family of iPhone users as well. One part of the interview has a brief mention about Android smartphones featuring larger displays year ahead of Apple.
Joswiak was also asked about how he felt about the impacts of Samsung and other Android smartphone makers in the market. To this, Joswiak stated that they were “annoying” and went on to accuse them for poorly copying Apple’s technology. He stated that “They were annoying. And they were annoying because, as you know, they ripped off our technology. They took the innovations that we had created and created a poor copy of it, and just put a bigger screen around it. So, yeah, we were none too pleased.”
Back in 2013, the South Korean brand had launched its flagship Galaxy S4 that featured a 5 inch display. Around the same time, the iPhone 5 was the direct rival and only had a 4 inch display in comparison. In the near future, iPhones with larger displays were released in the market. Although, Apple had also sued Samsung for patent infringement based on the latter’s phones copying iPhone’s design for the Galaxy series of smartphones.
