Apple sees lower than expected demand for iPhone SE 2022: Kuo

Earlier today (28th March 2022), a known Apple analyst revealed that the newly launched iPhone SE 2022 isn’t as popular as the brand hoped it would be, with the company seeing demand, which is lower than expected.

Apple
iPhone SE 2022

The news arrives from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who shared this information on his Twitter account. In the tweet, Kuo stated that the Cupertino based giant’s iPhone SE 2022 saw lower than expected market demand. Thus, he also said that he is lowering his shipment estimates for the 2022 iPhone SE. Notably, the analyst said that the lockdowns in Shanghai did not affect the brand’s iPhone SE production. But despite this, it still saw lower sales.

So now, the shipment estimates for the newly unveiled iPhone has been dropped to 15 to 20 million units, down from his initial 25 to 30 million units estimated shipments. For those unaware, the 2022 iPhone SE is the latest smartphone from the brand. The new device comes with 4GB of RAM, which is higher than the last generation’s 3GB of RAM. This model sports a 4.7 inch display that retains the typical Touch ID just like its predecessor.

Apple

Under the hood, the iPhone SE 3 houses an A15 Bionic processor, which is a 5G enabled chipset. The device also features a 12 megapixel rear camera sensor. Interestingly, the iPhone SE 3 is apparently seeing the same kind of market reception as the iPhone mini series. In other words, it appears that the demand for smaller iPhones have fallen, which is the primary reason that Apple is expected to drop the mini model in the iPhone 14 lineup.

The Motorola Edge S30 Champion Edition was only released this morning in China but has managed to pull in some really impressive sales figures already. Chen Jin, general manager of Lenovo China’s mobile phone business department, announced with a post on Weibo that the device sold 10,000 units within just 10 minutes of being put up for sale.

He added that the device sold a bit too fast and many platforms are reporting that they’ve run out of stock.

Xiaomi tweaking performance in favor of benchmark apps: Report

Xiaomi has apparently been tweaking the performance of its smartphones to alter the results on certain benchmarking applications. A new report has found that the company tweaks performance to show better synthetic benchmark results.

The news arrives from a series of tweet from John Poole, who is a developer at GeekBench, a popular benchmarking platform. In the tweets, Poole stated that the Chinese tech giant’s handsets are making performance decisions based on application identifiers. In other words, the performance depends on the type of application being run on the device. Poole was using a Xiaomi 11 and found that the GeekBench scores were different when he ran the regular version of GeekBench and another build of GeekBench that was disguised as Fortnite.

In the single core tests, the device’s scores were around 30 percent lower on the disguised GeekBench version when compared to the regular build. Meanwhile, the multi core tests showcased results that were around 15 percent lower as well. He even shared a comparison between the two tests that is currently listed on the GeekBench website. Notably, this wasn’t the only case of performance being tweaked.

Xiaomi Mi 11 5G

The issue did not affect just the Fortnite build. Apparently, the same performance tweaking can be observed in other games such as Genshin Impact as well. This means that Xiaomi has built identifiers into its devices to boost benchmark scores to showcase its smartphone’s raw performance, but in actual gaming scenarios, this performance is noticeably reduced.

OPPO Find X5 Pro new color variant with lighter material to start selling from April 1

The OPPO Find X5 Pro was launched in Glaze Black and Ceramic White colors for the global market but will soon be sold in another, third color in China. Called Aqua Blue, the color not only delivers a fresh lick of paint but also a whole new material — leather. OPPO announced today that this new option will go on sale starting April 1st for CNY 6,299 (~USD 988) for the 12GB+256GB config.

The blue leather model is slightly thicker at 8.8mm, which is 0.3mm more than its ceramic counterparts, but is also noticeably lighter at 195g (vs the 218g of the other two colors).

oppo find x5 pro aqua blue

The OPPO Find X5 Pro is built around a 6.7-inch 120Hz QHD+ LTPO AMOLED display with a fingerprint scanner underneath and a punch hole in the top-left housing the 32MP front camera. At the back, there’s a triple camera setup comprising 50MP primary, 50MP ultrawide, and 13MP telephoto lenses.

But perhaps the best part (and the most marketed one too) is the usage of a self-developed NPU imaging chip for the first time. Dubbed MariSilicon X, the chip is built on TSMC’s 6nm process and is said to improve both photography and videography significantly.

Powering the entire package is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The OPPO Find X5 Pro is available in two chip variants — there’s the Qualcomm option that packs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and then there’s the MediaTek option that features the Dimensity 9000. It isn’t clear if the Aqua Blue color will be for both options but that will be confirmed soon enough once it starts selling.

Apple to launch new M2 iPad Pro with MagSafe charging this fall: Gurman

A new report has revealed that Apple is gearing up to launch a new iPad model later this year. It is expected to be the new 2022 iPad Pro that features next gen Apple Silicon and MagSafe support as well.

Apple

The news arrives from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who shared the information on his Power On newsletter (Via MacRumors). In the report, Gurman added that the Cupertino based giant didn’t announce any new iPad Pro models earlier this month during its launch conference. So, the brand will likely launch new models sometime between September and November 2022.

Previously, Gurman had also staed that the iPhone maker will be releasing its “wildest array of new hardware products in its history” during fall 2022, so it appears that the new iPad Pros might be one of those products. As of right now, finer details regarding the upcoming iPad Pro is still unknown. However, we have covered a few rumors in the recent past. Furthermore, Gurman believes that the new high end iPads will feature MagSade charging support as well.

Apple iPad

Apart from this, a major upgrade this year will be the shift towards the M2 based chipset, the highly anticipated successor to Apple’s first proprietary M1 chip. The M2 chip is also expected to feature 8 cores like the M1, but will arrive with boosted performance and improved energy efficiency thanks to the 4nm TSMC process. Keep in mind that this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt for now and stick around for more updates.

200km of EV Range in a 5-Minute Charge, Huawei’s Revolutionary EV Charging Solution could be Ready For Market within the Next Few Years

As the world gradually transitions away from gas and petrol-powered cars to electric vehicles, there’s still one caveat that EVs are lacking in comparison with their petrol-powered counterpart which is the time to “refuel their tanks”. For conventional fuel-engine vehicles, you can just top up your car with petrol in less than 5 minutes and go; but for electric vehicles, the time it takes to recharge the battery is normally 20 to 40 minutes depending on the battery left needed for the journey.

ev-charging-industry

Huawei, the Chinese tech giant which sells not only smartphones, but also laptops, smartwatches, and even smart cars in China, is planning to shake up the industry with its revolutionary EV charging solution that promises to provide 200km of EV range within a single 5-min charge.

The news comes from Huawei Senior Executive, Wang Chao, who was a panellist at the National Chinese Electric Vehicle 100 Forum. In the forum, Wang boasted that since 2021, the company had rolled out its DriveOne smart driving solution across the country which included features such as smart IoT integration with HarmonyOS, navigation upgrades for drivers, and most importantly the solution provides the vehicle to recharge its battery to deliver 200km of driving distance within a 10-minute charge.

Huawei-EV-car-pic

However, at Huawei, they always strive to deliver better products and services to their consumers. Wang mentions that in the next few years, the company is planning to reveal its cutting-edge 1000V EV charging solution that could deliver 200km of driving distance in just a 5-minute charge.

Earlier in the decade, Huawei had set out its plan for its development roadmap in the EV industry, and it was expected that by 2025, the company would have released its 1000V 600kW high voltage charging solution to the public, which recharge your EV battery from 30% to 80% in 5 minutes, providing a “fuel tank refill” like experience.

The Felo FW-03 electric scooter is a lightweight urban commuter two-wheeler with a retro styling that bears a close semblance with the Yamaha BW models. It looks like the refreshing design and features of the Felo FW-03 will draw some of the die-hard fans of the retro-styled models now transiting to an all-electric setup.FELO FW-03 e-scooter

The Felo FW-03 e-scooter comes with single-piece bodywork, pressed steel wheels, and a lightweight design. A 5.5 horsepower electric motor provides power for the Felo FW-03 and its 48V 30Ah Lithium battery delivers a range of about 97km in off-road trim. The e-scooter has a top speed of about 80km/h while the battery can be charged fully between six to eight hours.

There are still a few details that are not available for the Felo FW-03 one of the Chinese listings puts the price of the all-electric scooter at 18,800 yuan ($2,953). It is also unlikely that the model is globally available currently but it can be gotten from Hong Kong and mainland China at the least. Komaki DT 3000 electric scooter to debut in India with a range of up to 220km

The Komaki DT 3000 high-speed electric scooter has been launched in India with a starting price of Rs. 115,000 ($1,508). The Komaki DT 3000 comes with Lithium-ion batteries that can deliver ranges between 180 and 220km on a single full charge. The Komaki DT 3000 is the third e-scooter to be released by the company in 2022, as it continues to seek a chunk of the highly competitive Indian two-wheeler EV market.

Indeed, India has seen a surge in the number of two-wheel electric vehicles that have been introduced in the country. While several of the brands are wholly manufactured in India, several other brands are imported. It should be pointed out that there is a raft of incentives put in place by local, regional, and the central government in India to encourage electric vehicle manufacturing. India is the home of two-wheeler and three-wheeler combustion engines that are major culprits in greenhouse gas emissions. The government is thus encouraging manufacturers to embrace sustainable and green solutions to the transportation problem.

The Komaki DT 3000 e-scooter has a 3kW BLDC motor that can power the e-scooter to a top speed of 90km/h. The 75V 52Ah patented Lithium-ion battery offers a driving range of up to 220km. There are no full availability details yet for the Komaki DT 3000 e-scooter across the subcontinent but such details will emanate subsequently.

Samsung’s tweet seems to have mistakenly promoted the Oppo Find N

A Samsung tweet has pointed to a foldable smartphone which is likely the Oppo Find N, describing the phone as “pretty ah-mazing!” This was in response to a tweet about how foldable phones broke the stereotypes of modern smartphones being all the same or boring.Oppo find N Review featured 3

Samsung is the forerunner of smartphones with foldable displays with its introduction of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The Korean tech powerhouse is the leader in that segment of the smartphone market, but Oppo’s Find N is the closest competitor of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Interestingly or should we say awkwardly, the originating tweet came from an Oppo official, Ryan Fenwick. Fenwick is a member of the Global Communications team of Oppo and OnePlus.

The exchanges that the original tweet and Samsung’s tweet generous were vigorous in some instances. One of the replies pointed to the crease that is still present with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 unlike the seemingly more innovative hinge design of the Find N that has avoided that problem. The interchange of tweets is a mixture of hilarious statements and could also serve as reality checks for the two foldable leaders Samsung and Oppo. While foldable technology is a great technological leap, there are still areas of improvement from both Oppo and Samsung.

iPhone 13 Pro Max with USB-C, 3.5mm jack, bigger battery, & dual cooling fans surfaces

There had been a few modifications of iPhones to accommodate USB-C functionality and a few other features. While a few of these innovations have gotten the needed traction, many had been a complete flop. A Chinese creator spotted originally on Douyin (TikTok elsewhere) has just been added to the list of tech geeks who have provided some modifications to the Apple iPhone. He built a custom iPhone 13 Pro Max that now has a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone input, a larger battery, and dual cooling fans.iPhone 13 Pro Max Ultra

Recently, the story surfaced of a YouTuber who added a USB-C port to the iPhone X although little was known about how successful this was. The modified iPhone 13 Pro Max is quite thicker than the original model, hence the additional Ultra acronym in its name. It has an additional battery, two cooling fans, and the aforementioned USB port and audio jack. The additional battery doubles the overall battery life of the device while a better performance was also recorded in the AnTuTu benchmarks. This is probably due to the improved cooling system in the device, thus allowing the installed chipset to perform optimally.

We could say that this improved design of the iPhone 13 Pro Max could be further finetuned to smoothen the rough edges. That notwithstanding, the model is a remarkable creation by the owners. It will be difficult for individual iPhone 13 Pro Max owners to replicate the feat by the owners of this design but demand for the technology could drive the development and scaling of this innovation. For now, there has been no official statement by Apple on the matter.
