Earlier this year, Realme unveiled its GT series in the Chinese market including handsets like GT 5G, GT Neo, GT Neo Flash Edition, and GT Master Edition. A few of these phones from the series will now go global on August 18 with the launch in Europe and India. While Realme is planning to proliferate the new series in multiple markets, it’s also ground working to shelve off an old smartphone series.
Reportedly, Realme is planning to discontinue its upper mid-range Realme X series and it may replace it with the Realme GT series. In talks with the folks at TechRadar, Realme’s CEO Madhav Sheth confirmed that the new Realme GT series will officially replace the older Realme X series.
Sheth said, “The X will be replaced by the GT; so the GT is the new X.” It means the X lineup which offered high-end specs at affordable prices will no longer be in working. However, the GT series, which anyway offers a similar flagship-like experience, will take the lead from now on.
Notably, the other phone lineups from Realme – the Realme C series, Realme numbered series, and Narzo series will continue to launch in their set segments. The new GT lineup, on the other hand, will just be an addition.
That said, the series is currently available in China and is launching in other major markets like Europe and India. We can expect the series to reach more markets soon and we may also see some new phones incoming this year or next year.
FairPhone is carving a niche for itself as a smartphone manufacturer with its modular smartphones. Their design takes into consideration sustainability and ethical conduct in the production of environmentally safe products, using fair labor practices.
A report monitored in Germany says the FairPhone 4 5G has been certified by Wi-Fi Alliance on August 9. With this key certification obtained, we may be close to the eventual launch of the smartphone.
The FairPhone 4 5G will come with Android 11 and 5G network connectivity, which implies that its processor, possibly from Qualcomm will pack some power. FairPhone smartphones are designed to be more sustainable than most smartphones using a modular design. They are high in repairability and upgrades can be easily achieved due to the modular design.
There are also ethical considerations in the choice of materials and labor practices. FairPhone will not source materials from regions mired in conflict.
The wireless certification usually provides an indication that the product will soon hit the market. So we may be just weeks away from the unveiling. Maybe we could expect some official word from FairPhone in the coming days or weeks for the device.
Indeed, little is known about FairPhone 4 5G. Apart from the Android 11 OS and 5G network support, we are still in the dark about the product. It could be sold between €420 ($495) and €500 ($ 590) in Europe, as the two previous FairPhone phones lie in the range.

Xiaomi recently introduced the Mi Mix 4, its latest flagship smartphone in China. However, it looks like that the company is having a hard time keeping up the supply.
According to Lu Weibing, President Xiaomi, and GM Redmi, Mi Mix 4 supply will remain tight because of silicon shortage. He said that the limited supply of Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset and the low yield rate of ceramic material were the two main reasons why the stock of Mi Mix 4 was low. To note, the manufacturing cost of ceramic material is 5 to 6 times higher than standard glass, and it is also tougher to carve out a piece of ceramic glass.
The first batch of preorders was instantly sold out, and Mi Home’s presales were also exhausted. Weibing further apologized to the fans and said that the stock for the Aug 16th sale was also going to be limited.

Smartphone brand realme has started rolling out realme UI 2.0 stable update based on Android 11 for realme narzo 30A. The stable update of the company’s 2020 mobile software for the said handset arrives almost two months after the release of the first beta build.
According to the official announcement post on realme Community, the Android 11 stable update for the realme narzo 30A comes with firmware version RMX3171_11.C.03. The latest system update for the smartphone is being rolled out to users who are on firmware version RMX3171_11.A.19 or RMX3171_A.17.
Like any other OTA software update, this one is also being rolled out in batches. This means some users may get it earlier than others, while others will have to wait a bit longer. At the end of the day, every user should get the new update.
Having said that, if a user is not satisfied with the software experience, they can roll back to the previous version of realme UI based on Android 10 by manually installing the rollback package. However, it is worth noting that this process will wipe the device’s internal storage.
Earlier this week, Xiaomi introduced its fourth generation Mix series smartphone, the Mi Mix 4. It brought CUP Full Screen Technology on board with top-notch specifications.
But did you know that the Mi Mix 4 had one more exciting feature, an anti-lost mode using a virtual SIM?
Unfortunately, the company has announced that it’s forced to disable this feature.
The Mi Mix 4 has a built-in virtual SIM card that can help locate the device even if it has no SIM card. However, the feature had to be removed due to non-compliance with national regulations (China). According to the official statement posted by Xiaomi on Weibo, the technology hasn’t been approved for application in mobile phone products. Further, the company has also apologized to its users for removing the anti-lost mode.
The Mi Mix 4 also brings the deep binding of the SIM card and the handset. This feature disables the smartphone in case someone replaces the SIM card. Further, it allows you to force shut down the smartphone to make sure your data is secure.
Apart from these features, Mi Mix 4 brings many exciting features, including Adaptive Signal Optimization and Manual Signal Entry. The Mi Mix 4 comes with a unique interior metal case that acts as an antenna amplifier. Moreover, it features 19 inbuilt antennas and supports 42 bands with signal quality optimizations for 8 different scenarios.
Another exciting feature is Point and Control Always On UWB. Xiaomi’s Always On UWB technology allows users to connect to any compatible smart home products by simply pointing at them. There are lots of other unique features of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 that you should know.
The Mi Mix 4 features a 6.67-inch curved OLED panel with a 20MP camera under display. It is powered by Snapdragon 888+ coupled with 8GB/12GB of RAM and 128GB/ 256GB/512GB/1TB of internal memory. The Mi Mix 4 runs on MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 and boasts a 5000mAH battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging support. Further, it comes with a triple rear camera setup, including a 108MP main camera, 50x periscope camera and 13MP ultrawide camera with free form lens. The Mi Mix 4 starts at CNY 4,999 ($772) for the 4GB/128GB storage variant.
As a well-known Japanese manga series, Detective Conan has always been loved by fans all around the world. And recently, OPPO announced a special gift for Detective Conan fans. Naturally, we had to get our hands on this immediately, and we managed to be one of the first ones to get this special edition model.
The moment we see the outer packing of this edition, we know that OPPO has been really attentive. Yes, the outer packaging is a scaled-down model of the Mouri Detective Office Agency building.
Box
This package restores all the details of the office in the manga, such as the Japanese Kanji on the glass and the location of the air conditioning unit, the katakana of the coffee shop and the three green plants. Such a high level of attention to detail ensures this special edition can also be kept as a collector’s item.
The package is opened from the roof. Lift the roof up, and pick up the card containing the instructions, while the phone is lying quietly in the center of the box. We will show the phone later, let’s first see what else is in the package.
The next layer contains the phone accessories, and they too have a deep level of customization. For example, this phone case has the same design as Mouri Ran’s cell phone, and the internal texture is the famous brick wall texture from the anime. And this phone chain accessory is also a gift from Shinichi Kudo to Ran Mouri, which is a sea cucumber with a smiley face. The color scheme is also strictly in accordance to the official manga series.
While the customized Detective Boys badge in the box is not a walkie-talkie, it can not only be kept as a collector’s item, but also as a SIM card pin. And that red tie can be used as a headphone winder. The last layer is loaded with chargers, charging cables and headphones. The Charger and the charging cable have the Detective Conan color scheme – red and blue. And the headphones included feature printed silhouettes of Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri on both sides. Indeed, it gives out a romantic vibe.
Enough about the accessories, now let’s take a look at the phone. When you first get the phone, you are in for a treat. The first time you enter the system, you will have to solve a small puzzle. The answer to this puzzle is a very famous line that Kudo Shin said to Mo Lilan in the anime episode 672.
If you enter the correct answer as 0, the door to that classic over-the-top animation opens, and you officially enter the phone system. Of course, even if you do not know the puzzle, it does not matter, press ten times and you’ll be allowed to enter.
OPPO has given two different themes for Reno 6 Pro+, representing the mobile interface of Conan and Mouri Ran respectively. And the theme’s third-party icons have all been redrawn, which can ensure visual unity.
Now, let’s go to the back of the phone. This is the most interesting part of the phone, with the back featuring the design of the manga. I believe Detective Conan’s manga fans will be very satisfied with this back cover. But the amazing thing about this back cover is that it uses a new Electrochromic technology, which allows the back cover to change colors between silver and red. You can change its color by saying the famous line using the voice assistant.
There’s also a unique feature wherein you can link two Detective Conan editions via your OPPO account, and the two phones will change colors simultaneously when you tap the back.
Of course, you can also directly click on the personalization option to switch the color, it takes only about 5 to 10 seconds to complete the switch.
This time, Reno 6 Pro+ detective Conan version of OPPO hasn’t let fans down. Especially, after checking out the Mouri Detective Office Agency box and deeply customized accessories, I believe that as a fan of Detective Conan, this phone is very attractive.
So, that’s all about the Detective Conan special edition of the Reno6 Pro+.
At the Mi MIX 4 launch event, Xiaomi also unveiled MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition. During the conference, the company said that the new version of MIUI does not bring any features and it only focuses on optimizations. Turns out that the company has silently introduced a new iOS-like widget system.
1 of 2
Xiaomi is testing a new iOS-inspired widget system in China. As per Xiaomiui (1, 2, 3), the new feature is enabled via the latest beta version of App Vault (V5.0.56) and MIUI Gallery (V2.2.21). At present, these versions of the applications can be only installed on devices with MIUI beta build based on Android 11.
This means although the feature appears to be part of MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition, it can be also experienced by users with devices running the regular MIUI 12.5 beta software as well. However, they will have to sign up for the testing program for which the registrations end on August 27.

According to the official announcement, users can now place widgets with sizes 2×2, 4×2, 4×4, and 2×3 on the home screen. A new ‘Widget Store’ has been added through which users can drag and drop widgets of their choice anywhere on the screen. The smartphone maker has also introduced new system app widgets to make use of the new feature.
As per Xiaomi, the new MIUI widget system will be under testing from August 17 to October 20. This suggests that users on the stable MIUI channel, especially in international markets, will have to wait for months to experience the new feature.

On the bright side, it’s good to know that widgets are making a comeback after Apple introduced them in iOS 14. Even Google has revamped the core Android widget system with Android 12.
Xiaomi had just announced the highly anticipated Mi MIX 4 earlier this week. The smartphone arrived with top notch specs and features and was the company’s first to sport an under display selfie camera on the front. So now, lets take a look at the 5 features that makes the Mi MIX 4 so unique.
1. CUP Full Screen Technology
As the name suggests, the Mi MIX 4 offers a full front screen experience to the users as the essential components like proximity and ambient light sensors along with the selfie shooter are housed under the display. CUP or Camera Under Panel design is the company’s proprietary under-display camera technology and has been in development for over five years, spanning three major generations, sixty patents, and a whopping 77 million US Dollars investment and hundreds of engineers.
We had even covered a recent tear-down video of the Mi MIX 4, which showcased the cutouts for the UD camera and essential sensors. To the naked eyes, these cutouts are virtually invisible and can only be seen when intense light is passed through the display. Furthermore, the CUP technology even offers an impressive 400ppi pixel density on top of the UD camera region. Xiaomi achieved this feat by using a new transparent curved wiring Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) material along with imaging algorithms.
2. Point and Control Always On UWB
A major feature that arrived with the newly launched Mi MIX 4 is the integration of the Chinese tech giant’s unique UWB technology. In practice, this lets users connect to any compatible smart home products by simply pointing at them. Or in other words, a simple “Point to Connect” functionality lets users control Xiaomi’s AIoT devices immediately after being paired with the Mi MIX 4. For those unaware, UWB stands for Ultra-Wideband, which is essentially a low energy short-range high bandwidth communication that fills the same role as Bluetooth.
3. System Level AI Translation and Privacy
Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 also features a system level AI Translation as well. This allows Mi MIX 4 users to transcribe and translate audio, along with the usual text and photos translation. Notably, the device is capable of generating on-device translations in real-time, even adding subtitles that can be used for communicating between different languages.
Additionally, the company also placed a special emphasis on security that prevents unauthorized shutdown, disconnect prevention, and other data protection features as well. Even if you lose your Mi MIX 4, Xiaomi protects your personal information while also offering SIM lock feature that requires one to re-enter your password to activate a new SIM being used on the device.
4. Adaptive Signal Optimization and Manual Signal Entry
The smartphone maker has even brought in improvements in networking and signal reception as well. The Mi MIX 4 boosts antenna performance by using a unique interior metal case as an antenna amplifier. Although, a highlight aspect in networking is also its adaptive controls that allow for further optimizations for signals that speed up connection when needed.
The Mi MIX 4 arrives with 19 inbuilt antennas and supports 42 bands with signal quality optimizations for 8 scenarios. While it supports automatic identification of the environment around it, it also offers users a manual location entry system to further optimize signal quality in high traffic areas.
5. 50W Fast Wireless Charging!
Xiaomi has been one of the pioneers when it comes to smartphone fast charging technology. It has even been one of the market leaders for wireless charging tech as well in the smartphone industry. The Mi MIX 4 supports a whopping 120W wired fast charging support while it can even be charged wireless by up to 50W. The device also supports an intelligent fast charging modulation algorithm that helps regulate temperatures during charging and speeds for different scenarios as well.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy A52s by the end of this month. This smartphone might release first in Europe based on leaks. It may also debut in India as it has received BIS certification. Now, we have yet another confirmation for the latter.
Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G
The support page for the yet-to-be-announced Samsung Galaxy A52s with model number SM-A528B/DS has gone live on Samsung India’s website. This clearly suggests that the phone will be launching in the country as hinted by its BIS certification a few weeks back.
According to previous reports, the Galaxy A52s will be near-identical to the Galaxy A52 5G released earlier this year. The only differences will be the chipset and a new color. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G instead of a Snapdragon 750G and will be available in an additional green color other than white, black, and violet.
Talking about common specs, the Galaxy A52s will come with a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and in-screen fingerprint sensor, 64MP (wide) + 12MP (ultra-wide) + 5MP (macro) + 5MP (depth) quad-camera setup, and a 32MP selfie camera.
Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G
Other features include a MicroSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, stereo speakers, IP67-rating for dust and water resistance, One UI 3.1 based on Android 11, 4,500mAh battery, and 25W fast charging.
Last but not least, the Samsung Galaxy A52s is reported to cost around €449 in Europe. It might be cheaper in India.
Oppo has recently been granted a patent for a new technology that could be used in its future wearable devices. The company has patented a vein unlocking tech, which is likely a form of a biometric security system.
The new technology has a patent number of CN110298944Band describes a “Venous Unlocking Method and Vein Unlocking Device.” Oppo had applied for this patent back in 2019, which was only recently granted. As per the description, the patent is for a vein unlocking technology. In other words, a biometric system similar to facial recognition or fingerprint scanning but one that maps the veins on the users’ hands. Notably, this technology also bears a close resemblance to the Hand ID system from LG, which mapped the thickness and characteristics of a user’s veins for unlocking.
LG’s Hand ID
So, we can expect the system to map and record vein’s thickness to verify the identity and to authorize access. While the finer details of this technology are currently unknown, the patented system could potentially have a number of applications in various electronic products from the Chinese tech giants. This holds especially true for the company’s wearable products like smart bands or smart watches. Unfortunately, it is unclear if the company is actually working on such a system as of right now or is just covering all bases.
While the Coronavirus pandemic had initially caused a decline in global tablet shipments back in early 2020, the following lockdowns drove up sales of these larger screen devices due to the online shift of education and work cultures. Now, a new report has revealed that the tablet market in China has managed to see a steady growth in terms of shipments in H1 2021, despite the global market seeing a fall in momentum.
IDC‘s Global Personal Computing Device Quarterly Tracking Report has revealed that the the tablet market has grown by 3.9 percent year on year. This marks a total shipments of 40.4 million units. Although, in the first half of this year, the global tablet computer market shipped 80.35 million units, marking a 24.4 percent year on year growth. During Q2 2021, the tablet market in China shipped around 7.15 million units, which was a rise of about 8.3 percent year on year.
In other words, this is indicative of a steady growth. However, looking at the Chinese market’s performance in the first half of this year, it can be observed that the region saw shipments reach a total of 13.4 million units, which marks a notable 29.7 percent growth over the same period last year. This also implies that China’s tablet market saw a growth rate higher than the global market.
Anuroopa Nataraj, senior analyst of IDC’s Global Mobile Device Tracking Project added that “Although there is still a shortage in the supply chain, there are still plenty of opportunities for tablets in the education market. Online learning has achieved rapid development and has promoted the digital transformation of the education field. Although there is no single solution in the world, many emerging markets continue to increase the use of Android tablets, while schools in some developed markets such as the United States and Canada prefer Chromebooks.”
The Galaxy S21 FE is the most anticipated Samsung slab smartphone of 2021. The device was supposed to release alongside the new Galaxy Z phones. But unfortunately, the handset has been delayed until October. Ahead of its official announcement, the product now gets certified by Bluetooth SIG.
Imgage Source: Android Headlines
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 FE with model numbers SM-G990B, SM-G990B_DS, and SM-G990N has been certified by Bluetooth SIG. Interestingly, despite being a premium smartphone, the device will come with Bluetooth 5.0 and not the latest 5.2 version.
Other than the Bluetooth version, the certification does not say anything else about the phone. But anyway, we know almost everything about the Galaxy S21 FE via previous certifications and leaks.
It will come with a 12MP triple cameras setup, 32MP selfie camera, up to 8GB RAM/256GB storage, One UI 3.1.1 based on Android 11, 4,500mAh battery, 25W fast wired charging, 15W fast wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. Last but not least, the Galaxy S21 FE will come in four colors (Gray, Light Green, Light Violet, White).
Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, apparently has new plans that would take advertising out of this world, quite literally. Musk will be partnering up with a Canada based startup to launch a satellite that will act as a billboard for advertisements in space.
The billionaire’s latest endeavor will have SpaceX join launch a satellite into low Earth orbit by next year. The company’s team seeks on sending the satellite into space aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which will enable advertisements to be sent up from Earth. Talking about the satellite itself, it is called CubeSat and will feature a pixelated display screen that will showcase the contents that it receives from Earth.
Geometric Energy Corp, the startup SpaceX is working with, added that apart from just advertisements, the screen can also be used to display logos and even art. Samuel Reid, CEO and Co Founder of GEC also told BusinessInsider that the rocket that will carry CubeSat into orbit will release it before the rocket reaches the moon. While to some it might sound a bit intrusive as looking up at the sky and seeing an ad isn’t really that attractive, you can rest assured considering this space billboard will not be visible from Earth.
Rather than being outright visible, the content on the satellite’s display will be streamed live to various online platforms like YouTube or Twitch via a camera. In other words, a selfie stick will capture and send the contents/advertisements on the satellite to streaming sites. In practice, this means that anyone with access to the internet and such websites can see the satellite’s screen.
Reid further added that “There might be companies that want to depict their logo… or it might end up being a bit more personal and artistic. I’m trying to achieve something that can democratize access to space and allow for decentralized participation. Hopefully, people don’t waste money on something inappropriate, insulting or offensive.”
A few days back, the upcoming Redmi 10 appeared on a retailer’s website revealing almost everything about it. About a week later, the handset has been now certified by Thailand’s NBTC. Let’s check out what the certification says about the phone.
Redmi 10
According to NBTC, the Redmi 10 bears model number 21061119AG. Other than that, the certification confirms the phone to be limited to 4G connectivity, which we already know. In a nutshell, the certification suggests an imminent launch of this handset, at least in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand.
As per the retailer listing from last week, the Redmi 10 will arrive with a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole. It will be powered by a MediaTek Helio G88 SoC coupled with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.
Redmi 10
The smartphone will sport a quad-camera setup on the back consisting of a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP secondary sensor (probably ultra-wide), and a pair of 2MP sensors (could be for macro and depth). On the front, the device will have an 8MP shooter.
Other features of the Redmi 10 include dual-SIM card slots, 4G connectivity, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GNSS, USB Type-C port, MicroSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, dual stereo speakers, IR blaster, MIUI based on Android 11, 5,000mAh battery, and 18W fast charging.
