Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite, Redmi K30 Ultra receive MIUI 12.5 update

Xiaomi has been lately releasing MIUI 12.5 update for a number of eligible devices. The latest phones to join this list are the China-exclusive Redmi K30 Ultra and the limited market-exclusive Mi Note 10 Lite. The former is an affordable flagship, whereas the latter is a mid-ranger.

The Redmi K30 Ultra was launched alongside the Mi 10 Ultra to commemorate Xiaomi’s 10th anniversary in August 2020. The handset debuted with MIUI 12 based on Android 10.

Now, nearly a year later after its release, the phone has started receiving the MIUI 12.5 update. This system update also brings Android 11, just like on Redmi K20 Pro and Mi 9. The update arrives with build number V12.5.3.0.RJNCNXM.

On other hand, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite was launched before the former smartphone. Hence, it debuted with older MIUI 11 based on Android 10. However, after getting the MIUI 12 update, this handset also received the Android 11 update earlier this year.

Now, Xiaomi has started rolling out the MIUI 12.5 update for the ‘Global’ variant of the Mi Note 10 Lite. The update comes with build number V12.5.1.0.RFNMIXM.

Anyway, it is worth noting that the newly released software builds for both of these smartphones are in the ‘Stable Beta’ phase right now. This means the update is being seeded out in batches for a select few users.

But all users should get the update in the coming days, including users with other regional variants (EEA, Turkey, Russia) of Mi Note 10 Lite.

Sony to create mobile versions of some of its popular PlayStation games soon

Some top-rated and iconic Sony PlayStation games will soon find their way to mobile applications and a wider audience. This is according to Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan. Sony says that its expansion into mobile applications will begin this year with the rollout of some of its highly successful PlayStation franchises into mobile. Ryan spoke at the Investor Relation Day event of the company and hinted that this year could see Sony take steps to bring PlayStation IP to mobile, which could exponentially increase the size of its audience.Sony PlayStation

The extension into mobile gaming for Sony could significantly transform the outlook of the PlayStation brand, as the company will now have greater access to a large set of customers and possibly increased returns from mobile gaming applications. Many of the top-rated and successful console games have been transiting to the larger audience of mobile in recent years. Microsoft, Nintendo, Fortnite, and even Google are making concrete moves to join the mobile gaming bandwagon.

The possibilities of mobile gaming and the options available are pretty promising in the foreseeable future. While Sony does not expect any returns on its foray into mobile gaming applications in the short term, it could rake in huge returns when its mobile infrastructure and games lineup become well established. The plan is to continue expanding the list of games being deployed to mobile while ensuring that feedback is factored into subsequent releases to grow the mobile applications ecosystem of PlayStation games.

Some sources claim that Sony will catalog a vast chunk of its in-house PlayStation titles for mobile applications within the first year of its foray into mobile gaming. Sony has not provided, at this time, the rollout strategy, whether there would be a simultaneous rollout to both Android and iOS. However, we can be confident that the Android option is almost guaranteed with the massive number of smartphones running on Android compared to iOS.

Interactio, a remote interpretation platform saw a 12-fold growth fuelled by COVID-19 lockdown

The COVID 19 pandemic may have adversely affected several businesses but there are some who smile at the bank as a result of the boom experienced. One very prominent startup in this category is Zoom Meeting. Another less prominent startup that had a surge in its business is the remote interpretation platform, Interactio.

Interactio boasts of some big-hitting customers within its ranks. These include Microsoft, BMW, the United Nations, JP Morgan, etc. The company has carved a niche by providing digital tools to connect online meetings with certified human interpreters who provide real-time interpretation between participants. It also offers various services like a video-conferencing application that interfaces with several apps like Zoom for online meetings with interpretation service incorporated. The company has a pool of certified interpreters that could be deployed to give an on-site interpretation or online services.

Interactio offers interpretation services in any language, and says it hosted over 18,000 meetings within the past year with over 390,000 participants, reflecting its strong presence as a one-stop platform for language services.

The company recently posted its earnings for 2020 even with the scourge of the COVID-19 pandemic. It would be expanding its scope via the Series A funding from a group of investors led by Eight Road Ventures.

The new funding will help the company develop its language interpretation infrastructure to cater to multiple interpretation services during online multi-lingual meetings. Interactio hopes to further move higher on the spectrum of language communication services in the ever-widening works of online interactions.

The goal is to offer a fully hybrid solution that can be seamlessly integrated with hardware on-site. The overall outlook remains bright for the young company, and the new funding will accelerate its growth trajectory.

There are still issues in the ability of the app to meet fully the services demanded by users, as underscored by feedback from both iOS and Android users. The platform will also have to cope with fast-evolving voice assistant interpretation services that do not need a physical interpreter.

Vivo X60 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 11i vs OnePlus 9: Specs Comparison

A few days ago, Vivo launched its first flagship in Europe since it hitten the Western European market: the Vivo X60 Pro. Despite it is not the most advanced variant from the X60 series, it boasts a complete specs sheet with stunning specifications. Further, it carries a non-excessive price tag. This is exactly the reason why we decided to compare it to the latest flagship killers from Vivo’s Chinese rivals. If you need a phone priced under €800, you have two other amazing options besides the Vivo X60 Pro in the European market: Xiaomi Mi 11i and OnePlus 9. Let’s compare their specifications.

Vivo X60 Pro Global vs Xiaomi Mi 11i vs OnePlus 9

ADDITIONAL FEATURES Dual SIM slot, 5G Dual SIM slot, 5G, IP53 splash resistant Dual SIM slot, 5G

Design

The Vivo X60 Pro is the most beautiful handset for three reasons: it is thinner than its opponents, it is lighter and it has a curved edge-to-edge display. With the OnePlus 9 and the Xiaomi Mi 11i, you get a flat display and thicker bodies, as well as thicker bezels around the panel. But you should consider that the Xiaomi Mi 11i has the IP53 certification, so it offers some kind of protection against dust and water (it is splash resistant, but you can not put it underwater without it damages).

Display

The displays of the Vivo X60 Pro, OnePlus 9, and Xiaomi Mi 11i are more or less at the same level. They are all AMOLED panels with a Full HD+ resolution, the HDR10+ certification, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and very high brightness. Not the most advanced displays in the smartphone world, but still amazing panels which will not disappoint you. The Xiaomi Mi 11i has a wider 6.67-inch diagonal, while Vivo X60 Pro and OnePlus 9 are more compact. Note that Vivo X60 Pro and OnePlus 9 have an in-display fingerprint reader, while Xiaomi Mi 11i has a side-mounted one which is actually less comfortable.

Hardware/Software

Given that the Vivo X60 Pro is powered by a weaker chipset, the battle is between Xiaomi Mi 11i and the OnePlus 9. They are fueled by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, but the most advanced variant of the OnePlus 9 is more powerful because it has more RAM: 12 GB against the 8 GB offered by the Xiaomi Mi 11i. All these phones run Android 11 out of the box with different customized user interfaces.

Camera

The most convincing camera department belongs to the Vivo X60 Pro. It has a main sensor with a very bright f/1.5 aperture and gimbal stabilization, a telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, and a 13 MP ultrawide sensor. OnePlus 9 has a better ultrawide camera than X60 Pro, but it lacks a telephoto sensor and its main camera is actually inferior too. The Xiaomi Mi 11i has a stunning 108 MP main camera with 8K video recording, but unfortunately, its secondary sensors are pretty bad for a flagship.

Battery

Vivo X60 Pro is thinner and lighter, but it has a smaller battery and it loses the battery life comparison. The Xiaomi Mi 11i and the OnePlus 9 both come with a 4500 mAh battery, but the latter supports faster wired charging (65W) and wireless charging, while Xiaomi Mi 11i supports 33W fast charging and lacks wireless charging. OnePlus 9 is the king of batteries.

Vivo X60 Pro Global vs Xiaomi Mi 11i vs OnePlus 9: Price

You can grab a unit of the OnePlus 9 for less than €700/$853, Xiaomi Mi 11i is the cheapest with a €649/$791 price tag, and Vivo X60 Pro is priced at €799/$975. The Vivo X60 Pro looks like the most premium device due to its beautiful design and amazing camera, but for average users, the OnePlus 9 makes more sense with the actual prices due to its bigger battery, wireless charging, better chipset.

Sony WF-1000XM4 to feature improved ANC, LDAC, and better battery life: Leak

A new leak has revealed certain interesting details regarding the upcoming Sony WF-1000XM4 true wireless earbuds. The device will reportedly arrive with an improved active noise cancellation (ANC) along with other notable features as well.

Sony

According to a WinFuture report (Via GSMArena), the new hearables will sport better noise cancellation, which has a feature that was present in the previous model as well. Although, the new XM4 version will improve this feature through the company’s “Sony V1” custom chip. Similarly, the leak adds that the wireless earphones will also add support for high quality wireless audio transmitted through LDAC and will also be certified for Hi Res Audio as well.

The report states that the Japanese tech giant will even improve the battery life of the WF-1000XM4 TWS earbuds. As per the report, the earbuds alone would offer up to 8 hours of music playback with ANC on, which is up from 6 hours from the previous model. With the charging case, these earbuds can be recharged twice, allowing for a total of 24 hours of playback. Turning ANC off would bump the battery life to 12 hours through the buds and 36 hours with the case.

Sony

Another notable feature is the addition of Qi wireless charging on the charging case for the earbuds in addition to the USB Type C charging port. This also implies that users can charge the earbuds through reverse wireless charging as well. The leak claims that the earbuds will arrive with a price tag of 280 Euros (roughly 350 US Dollars). Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt for now and stay tuned for more updates.

Xiaomi Mi 11X gets MIUI 12.5 update in India

Xiaomi launched the Mi 11X series in India in late August. The vanilla Mi 11X is a rebranded Redmi K40, which is also sold as POCO F3 in some markets. A month after its release, this smartphone has now started receiving MIUI 12.5 in the country.

MIUI 12.5 is the latest version of the MIUI mobile operating system based on Android. According to Xiaomi, this version brings improvements for devices already running MIUI 12

Hence, users of eligible devices are excited about this update. However, so far, Xiaomi has been mostly releasing this update for the Chinese variant of its phones. Thankfully, that has begun to change lately as some international variants have now started getting this update.

The latest global handset to receive MIUI 12.5 update is Mi 11X, which is sold in India. The update arrives with build number V12.5.1.0.RKHINXM. The software builds is in the ‘Stable Beta’ phase, and therefore, it is only available for a select few users as of now.

Anyway, all users should get the update in the coming days if early adopters don’t face any major issues. The original version of this smartphone, the Redmi K40, received the update in late April in China. On the other hand, the POCO F3, which is yet another clone of this phone is yet to receive the update in any region.

Global Smartphone market growth in 2021 to reach highest levels since 2015: IDC

The global smartphone market in this year is expected to record its highest levels of growth since 2015. Shipments are projected to reach 1.38 billion units this year, marking a rise of 7.7 percent over last year.

Smartphone

According to an IDC report, the positive trend is expected to continue forward into the next year as well, with an expected year on year growth of 3.8 percent. The projected shipments for this period are said to be a total of 1.43 billion units. The report adds that this arrives as the world shifts towards 5G networking and 5G enabled handsets, while also retaining strong demand for low end and mid range 4G smartphones following last year’s pandemic that led to a decline in sales.

As per Anthony Scarsella, research manager with IDC, “2021 will represent the largest year-over-year growth the market has witnessed since 2015, as the shift towards 5G across all price tiers continues to accelerate. The 5G shift will also deliver peak smartphone ASPs in 2021 ($376, up 9.7% year over year) when compared to the remainder of the forecast period as costly 5G devices continue to replace LTE devices, which are also starting to drop in price, down 27% in 2021.”

Smartphone

Similarly, Ryan Reith, program vice president at IDC, added that “Smartphones are seeing competition for consumer spending from adjacent markets like PCs, tablets, TVs, and smart home devices, yet that hasn’t slowed the market’s path to recovery. The smartphone market returned to growth during the holiday quarter last year and since then we’ve only seen production from top suppliers ramp up. There continues to be a strong supply-side push toward 5G, and price points continue to drop as a result.”
