Design

The reflective glass back makes the difference and makes the Huawei Honor 8X the most stunning handset. Another important feature which makes its aesthetics surprising is its screen-to-body ratio which is very close to 100 percent. I also like the minimal cutouts for its rear cameras and its very narrow chin.

Display

The displays found on these handsets offer an average view quality, they are nothing surprising, but they are more than sufficient if we consider their prices. The display of the Huawei Honor 8X is an added value because it has a larger diagonal of 6.5 inches that is currently very hard to find on a phone. If we exclude Honor 8X, I like Realme U1 more than Nokia X7 because of its less invasive waterdrop notch and the Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Specs & Software

While it is nothing surprising in terms of aesthetics and display, Nokia X7 is definitely the handset which gives most of the satisfaction when it comes to hardware and software. Indeed, it comes with the most powerful midrange SoC: the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 paired with up to 6 GB of RAM. Further, it is part of the Android One program, so it will receive faster updates thanks to Google’s official support. But note that it provides a stock user experience, while Realme U1 and Honor 8X have custom user interfaces.

Camera

I also like more the photos clicked from Nokia X7’s dual camera. It comes with Carl Zeiss optics, a bright f/1.8 aperture and even OIS for the dual rear setup. Realme U1 is the best when it comes to the front camera, thanks to its 25 MP unit and very efficient AI-backed features.

Battery

Huawei Honor 8X has the biggest battery, but there is only 250 mAh of difference and we are not sure that it will last more. Its opponents are both packed with a 3500 mAh battery but Nokia X7 is the only device of the trio to support a fast charging technology.

Price

Realme U1 was launched in India with a starting price tag of €150, Nokia X7 debuted in China with a price of €250 and Honor 8X costs about €250 in the global market. With the actual prices, I would actually choose the Nokia X7 due to its high performance and amazing camera.

Design

If you want a gaming-centric device even when it comes to aesthetics, then you should go for the Nubia Red Magic Mars which features an RGB illuminated LED strip and physical gaming keys on its backside. If you want the soberest and the most beautiful device, Huawei Mate 20 X looks like a normal phone but it is impressive because of its very high screen-to-body ratio. But it is a very big phablet due to its 7.2-inch display, while Razer Phone 2 is definitely the most equilibrated one for both gamers and normal users with its glass back and its water resistance (IP67).

Display

If you want the best gaming experience, the display of Razer Phone 2 is the best for you because it has a 120 Hz refresh ratio and a very high brightness, as well as a 2K resolution. It even reproduces colors in an excellent way. There are even loud stereo speakers. But if you want a bigger display for productivity, note that Huawei Mate 20 X has an almost tablet-like 7.2-inch panel.

Specs & Software

Huawei Mate 20 X has the most powerful chipset, but it comes with the lowest quantity of RAM: just 6 GB. Nubia Red Magic Mars has a still excellent SoC and it comes with up to 10 GB of RAM. These is what we read on the paper, but we will have to try the Red Magic Mars personally in order to see if there is a noticeable difference in performances.

Camera

Gaming phones are never the best camera phones, but Huawei Mate 20 X is an exception. It has the same triple camera as the Mate 20 Pro, which is the best triple camera setup actually available, with a primary 40 MP sensor, a secondary 20 MP ultrawide lens and an 8 MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom.

Battery

Given that it is the biggest phablet of the trio, Huawei Mate 20 X has the biggest battery as well. We still had no chance to test Nubia Red Magic Mars’ battery life, but it is unlikely that it will offer a longer battery life than Huawei Mate 20 X.

Price

Overall, Huawei Mate 20 X is the best smartphone of the trio, but in my opinion Razer Phone 2 is the best one for gaming due to its high refresh ratio, Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, and other important gaming-centric features. However, while Huawei Mate 20 X and Razer Phone 2 have very high listing prices (€800/$905 and €850/$961 respectively), Nubia Red Magic Mars costs just €420/$475 and it is the best one in terms of quality-price ratio.

Nokia 8 Android Pie update delayed due to unresolved issues

The Nokia 8 and the Nokia 8 Sirocco are next in line to get Android Pie, According to HMD Global’s update schedule, both phones were supposed to get the update in November but that didn’t happen. Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer of HMD Global took to Twitter to explain the reason for the delay.

According to his tweet, they are working on the update for the Nokia 8 but a few unresolved issues have prevented them from rolling it out to users. He adds that they need a few more days to finish up.

Based on the tweet, we presume the update should arrive on the phone in the first week of this month. There is no info about the Nokia 8 Sirocco but the update for it too should arrive shortly after that of the Nokia 8.

We have been burning the midnight oil to get your Nokia 8 on Android Pie. Unfortunately we still have few issues to address and need a couple of more days to make it perfect. Thank you for your patience 🙏

FreeBuds 2 app seen on Huawei’s official app store ahead of official release

Weeks before the official launch of the Mate 20 series, images and specs of a successor to Huawei‘s true wireless earbuds leaked on the web. Unfortunately, the pair of earbuds which is officially known as the FreeBuds 2 Pro wasn’t announced at the Mate 20 event. However, Honor did launch their own rebranded version of the earbuds as the FlyPods and FlyPods 2 Pro.

Now the official FreeBuds app has been seen on Huawei’s own app store which might mean the wireless earbuds is coming soon. The app is 21.3MB in size and was uploaded as far back as September. At the moment, it has less than 10,000 installs.

Just like the Honor FlyPods, the Huawei FreeBuds 2 is expected to have a regular variant alongside the Pro version. The differences will be in their features such as “Bone Sound Pattern” recognition in the Pro version and of course, a higher price tag. Both versions will have wireless charging.

Two companies and nine people charged for allegedly selling Samsung’s curved display tech

As per information revealed, it has been surfaced that around nine people from two different companies have been allegedly involved in selling Samsung’s new curved OLED display tech to some third-party vendor. The third-party vendor is reportedly some Chinese company. Samsung’s supplier, TopTec Co LTD’s CEO was among people who are arrested over the matter.

In detail, CEO of the Samsung’s supplier company and other eight employees are involved in this whole racket. They have received $13.8 million combines for passing on the details of the private documents of Samsung’s curved-edge OLED display.

In order to make the thing look original and hide it from the agencies, the group formed a shell company. It helped them to receive display panel information from Samsung Display, and later they passed on the same technology to the Chinese company. The allegations on Toptec also include selling of Samsung’s “3D lamination” technology.

As per an estimate, Samsung has employed enormous resources both monetary and human to build this technology. Approximately, they employed 38 engineers and invested $134 million in developing the leaked display panel.

In a statement by Samsung Display, Bloomberg said in a statement that they are “shocked at the results of the investigation by prosecutors, at a time when competitors are intensifying their technological rivalry.” Even the South Korean government is acting excellently as they believe it to be a national core technology.

Similar matters are of great concern for the tech world, as it can destroy the production environment for inventions and other new technologies. It can prove a major debacle for the company who have gained such technology after the hard work of several years.

The disclosure was made in a lengthy tweet on its official Twitter handle and it was accompanied by a short teaser video which also highlights the features of the Zenfone Max Pro M2. Some of the highlights is a notch display, a durable screen protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 among others. ASUS stylishly left out showing the entire device in the teaser video so, we can’t tell if there is a triple camera setup from the video. however, earlier renders and rumors say so.

ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 is expected to feature a 6-3inch IPS LCD display having a Full HD+ screen resolution. The device is expected to pack 4GB of RAM and will have two models based on the internal storage — 64GB and 128GB. We are also expecting another variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Under the hood, the phone will be running on an octa-core 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE processor under the hood, which offers an impressive improvement in graphics performance compared to the Snapdragon 636 chipset that powers the current Zenfone Max Pro M1 model.

For photography, the phone is expected to feature a triple-camera setup on the back, where the primary camera sensor will be of 13-megapixel. As for the software, the phone will be running the latest Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box.

World’s first commercial 5G network will reportedly be deployed in Korea on Saturday

South Korea is set to beat the United States of America and China to emerge as the first country to roll out the 5G technology. The three major telecommunications providers in Korea, SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus will reportedly deploy the world’s first commercial fifth-gen telecoms services on Saturday by sending out the first 5G signals in Korea at the same time.

The 5G technology rollout almost suffered a setback when there was fire outbreak at the Ahyeon branch of one of the trio KT in Seoul. The fire incident let to a major network blackout and the cancellation of 5G demo sessions and promotional showcase events this week. However, the three Korean telcos have hinted that they will commit to their original 5G deployment schedule.

Make no mistake, the 5G deployment isn’t for smartphones as that for phones will roll out in March next year. The mobile carriers plan to deliver 5G services first by using mobile routers – devices that enable connection to Wi-Fi devices.

Alleged Vivo NEX 2 revealed in new video once again

Vivo NEX that was announced in June was an astonishing flagship phone that offered a very high screen space through its large-sized notch-less display. It also came with some advanced features like in-display fingerprint reader, screen sound casting technology and pop-up selfie shooter. The company now seems to be prepping up to astound the tech world by launching yet another flagship phone with advanced features. It is speculated to arrive as a new Vivo NEX series smartphone from the company. However, there is no confirmation on whether it will be called Vivo NEX 2. The handset has been recently teased in an unboxing video. Today, a Chinese video blogger has shared a new video which teases the alleged NEX 2 smartphone once again. Here is the video:

The alleged Vivo NEX 2 shows that it is equipped an in-screen fingerprint reader. The phone also features a triple camera setup on the rear, but it is not clearly shown in the video. It is speculated that the third sensor could be a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor for 3D sensing. The major attraction of the phone is that it equipped with a secondary display on its rear panel.

The RGB-lit Lunar Ring that is placed on the rear side of the phone is also visible in the video. The vlogger has done his best to reveal some of the key features of the phone while keeping it secret.

Popular designer and industry expert had recently shared the following renders of the alleged Vivo NEX 2 smartphone. The front view of the phone reveals that it does not feature a selfie camera. Hence, the smartphone is equipped with a large-sized display that seems to offer more than 95 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The renders show that the secondary display of the phone is smaller compared to the main screen on the front. The Vivo brand name is placed on the bezel below the secondary screen. The RGB-lit Lunar Ring, an LED flash and camera sensors are placed above the display.

The smartphone is speculated to go official in December. If the rumor is true, Vivo may start teasing the phone’s features and eventually confirm its launch date in coming weeks.

Apple removes another 700+ apps from its Chinese App Store

China is the biggest smartphone market in the world bar none. However, it is also one of the most aggressively competitive marketplaces where even the likes of Apple are marginally small players. But Apple cannot afford to overlook the market, even if it means low hardware sales for the company. That’s because Apple rakes in huge cash through its App Store sales each year from China. The Cupertino giant, however, has to keep a tight vigil on its online marketplace as China also happens to be the place where a lot of security is needed when it comes to these online app stores. Fresh information is that Apple has removed as many as 700 applications from the store earlier this week.

As regards to why these apps were removed, it is said that they were in violation of Apple’s rules regarding app updates. According to laid out guidelines, any updates have to go through an iOS App Store so Apple can verify the integrity and safety of the new versions being rolled out to the public. It appears as these apps have violated that condition as they must have rolled out updates without getting it passed through the App Store. Now, this isn’t anything new in China but Apple wants to curb the habit and thus the big purge wiped out 700+ apps from the huge online marketplace.

None of these excluded apps belonged to a single category. In fact, some of these apps were also big and popular like the ones owned by search giant Sogou and e-commerce platform Pinduoduo. The current development happens after Apple ran a massive clean-up program a few months ago to take action illegal gambling platforms on its App Store.

Fastrack has launched a wearable device named Fastrack Reflex WAV smart band, which is touted as the world’s slimmest wearable with gesture control. The device, priced at Rs. 4,995, roughly $72, comes loaded with features that you would expect from a fitness band.

It comes with an OLED display and is powered by Qualcomm CSR1010 chipset under the hood. The device, which is IP67 certified for ensuring water and dust resistance, comes with a battery that is claimed to last up to five days on a single charge.

Speaking at the launch, Somprabh Singh, Business Head — Wearables, Titan Company Limited said,
