Vivo Z1 Youth Edition is now available for pre-order in China for 1,098 Yuan ($158)

Vivo recently introduced its Z-series for smartphones, which is aimed at mid-range segment. The company has already launched a few phones under this new series, including Vivo Z1, Z1i, Z10, and Z3. Now, the company seems to have silently launched another smartphone in the Z-series lineup — Vivo Z1 Youth Edition.

The company has started taking pre-orders for the Vivo Z1 Youth Edition on its official online store in China. The phone is priced at 1,098 Yuan, which roughly converts to $158 and is expected to start shipping from 11th November — the day when China observes the Singles’ Day sale. It will be available in three colors — Black, Aurora (Gradient), and Red.

The ‘Youth Edition’ devices are usually the stripped down and cheaper variant of the original phone and the Z1 Youth Edition is no exception. The phone features a 6.26-inch Full HD+ LCD IPS display with 2280 x 1080 pixels screen resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The display has the rectangular notch on top and despite that it manages to offer an impressive screen-t0-body ratio of 90 percent.

The Vivo Z1 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset but this Z1 Youth Edition is powered by the Snapdragon 626 processor, clocked at 2.2GHz. It has Adreno 506 graphics processor and packs 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There’s a microSD card slot that enables you to expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 256GB.

Coming to the camera department, it comes with a dual camera setup on the back, as it has become a norm these days. It features a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor which is an upgrade over the Z1’s 13MP + 2MP setup. On the front side, it comes equipped with a 16-megapixel shooter for taking selfies and video calling.

The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with a layer of Vivo’s own FunTouch OS 4.0. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, and GLONASS. It is powered by a 3,260mAh battery which unfortunately doesn’t support any kind of fast charging technology.

Before the launch of the OnePlus 6T, popular Indian tipster Ishan Agarwal had spotted the Purple colored version of the smartphone alongside Mirror Black and Midnight Black editions on the website of a European retailer . Today, the tipster has shared a screenshot of the official OnePlus support site which clearly shows the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple model listed among other OnePlus devices. Moreover, another Twitter user was able to spot the Thunder Purple OP6T listed on the German Amazon soon after the launch event of the smartphone. These proofs indicate that OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple will be made official soon.

As it can be seen in the first image shared by Ishan Agarwal, the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple model is listed below the Mirror Black and Midnight Black models on the email support page of OnePlus India.

The other image shows that the German edition of Amazon had listed the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple with 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage on pre-orders soon after the launch. The handset had carried a price tag of 579 euros. The Mirror Black variant with the same amount of RAM and storage was also listed with the same price tag. The snapshot also reveals that the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple model will be releasing on Nov. 30.

Before the launch of the OnePlus 6T, UK retailer MobileFun had also confirmed to PhoneArena that Purple color will remain exclusive to the 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage variant. Probably, it could be a limited-edition model. As of this writing, OnePlus is to confirm on the existence of the Purple model.

The Apple A12X has been also spotted on Geekbench soon after the launch of the new iPad Pros. The Geekbench scores of the A12X reveals that it is the most powerful mobile chipset.

Nubia Red Devil eSport gaming phone with 10GB RAM launching on November 6

Nubia’s Red Devil eSport official Weibo handle has shared a posted which announces the impending entry of a new gaming smartphone on November 6. The phone will be called the Nubia Red Devil eSport mobile phone and will actually be launched on Jingdong crowdfunding on that date.

The phone is billed to be an all-round gaming phone considering the details on the poster. The device comes with innovative physical gaming keys with frame touch technology which allows for 4-finger operation. It also comes with a linear motor which enables 4D shock. Other expected features include DTS 7.1 channel and 3D surround stereo bounce, the sense of hearing does not fall.

In terms of the hardware, the Red Devil eSports will be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset and this will be supplemented by up to 10GB of RAM. This will make the device the second gaming phone after the Black Shark Helo to have such. There will also be an internal storage capacity of 256GB. In addition, the poster also detailed the Red Devils eSports mobile phone to also come with an air-cooled + liquid-cooled dual cooling system. The frame is also designed with dual-sided gaming accessories which means you don’t need any peripheral add-on to get the feel of holding a gamepad. It is worthy of note that the new Red Devils eSports gaming phone will come pre-installed with the GameBox game space to ensure a more comprehensive gaming experience.

If the phone actually goes official on November 6, it will be in contention with the Black Shark Helo and Mi Mix 3 for the race to become the first 10GB RAM model to hit the market.

LG will reportedly showcase its foldable smartphone during CES 2019

Foldable phones are in a good stead presently to emerge as the next big thing for 2019. For a while now, we have been inundated with several patents, designs, renders and so on. But interestingly, the first true foldable phone was launched yesterday and it isn’t from any of the popular brands. The Rouyu Flexipai manufactured by relatively unknown Rouyu technology gets that honour.

We don’t have a clear timeline of when the top brands will unveil their own foldable model but Samsung, LG and Huawei have been revealed to have something in the works. Popular tipster Eva Blass has disclosed via a recent tweet that LG will unveil its own foldable phone at its own keynote at CES 2019.

No leaked photo of the LG foldable phone has been seen but a patent filed and approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office in late 2017 suggests the smartphone will most likely fold horizontally just like Samsung’s foldable. LG was recently rumoured as working with Lenovo to release a foldable table. So, we may really be seeing a foldable model from LG next year.

Unboxing photos of the Meitu T9 Doraemon Limited Edition evokes nostalgia

I am sure quite a lot of you recognize Doraemon, the robotic cat from a Japanese manga/anime of the same name even if you never watched the anime or read the manga. It was first created back in 1969 and has grown to become one of the best selling manga in the world. Smartphone maker, Meitu decided to release a Doraemon Limited Edition of its Meitu T9 flagship and pictures of the phone have surfaced online.

The unboxing photos are from ITHome who seem to have gotten their hands on a unit. The Meitu T9 Doraemon Limited Edition comes in a custom retail box that has the robot cat’s face plastered on it.

Apart from the phone, the box also contains a clear case and some documents – all with the Doraemon branding. Even the charger, 3.5mm to USB-C audio converter and USB cable are in the same blue color of the cat.

As with all limited edition phones based on pop culture characters, not only the body of the phone is customized but also the user interface. The Meitu T9 Doraemon Limited Edition is no different as it has a custom theme with icons and wallpapers inspired by the manga. The specs have changed a bit though.

The Meitu T9 has a 6.01-inch AMOLED notched screen, a Snapdragon 660 processor, and 4GB of RAM instead of 6GB like the original. Storage is still 128GB and there are dual cameras on both sides of the phone – a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor.

The cameras have a bunch of features including an AR mode with Doraemon stickers. It packs a 2900mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. The Meitu T9 Doraemon Limited Edition is available for purchase on JD.com for ¥3499 (~$500).

Meitu plans to release 6 limited edition models of the phone. It already released a Sailor Moon Edition and Dragon Edition. There will also be Hello Kitty, Sakura Kinomoro, and Chibi Maruko editions.

Xiaomi has no doubt met with good fortune since its sojourn in India began in 2014. The company currently ranks as the top smartphone and Smart TV vendor in the Asian country and has no intention to let that slip away from its grip. One way Xiaomi is trying to use to maintain its grip of the market is creating a balance between its online and offline sales models. Xiaomi presently has several Mi Home stores spread acro the various cities in India. However, the company has just opened what is definitely its largest Mi Home store in India and Banglore has the honour of being the host city of the store.

The brick and mortar store is located in the prominent Indiranagar area of Bangalore. The entire building occupies an area spanning across 6000 sq. ft. and covering two floors. The store is replete with numerous Xiaomi products which have been launched for the Indian market. It is also the finest Mi Home in terms of retail design grandeur. The building itself adopts a modern architectural design while the product stands are designed with a futuristic concept. However, since the focus is going to be on the products on display, it utilises a minimalist approach of white and grey colour coating on all surfaces. The building showcases unique, edgy patterns and is constructed using eco-friendly materials. The new Mi Home is also equipped with special solar-powered charging stations as part of the brand’s effort to implement pro-environment measures.

Apart from products that are available in India, the home store is detailed to have the largest experience zone with a collection of over 200 experience products that are sold globally. Some of the cool gadgets fans can have a feel of in the experience zone include the Mi Robot vacuum, Mi Smart Washing Machine, and Mi Smart Laser Projector. UMIDIGI One Max design & specs leaked: Water drop notch, 128GB ROM and big battery

Chinese smartphone maker UMIDIGI is presently going ballistic with its product launch this year. Just recently, we saw the company unveil the entry-level premium model UMIDIGI A3 and UMIDIGI A3 Pro. The company even launched the Uwatch smartwatch just days ago. A couple of months back, the UMIDIGI One and One Pro were unveiled under the UMIDIGI One flagship series. Seems the company is planning to expand the series as a new smartphone model dubbed UMIDIGI One Max has leaked out in a poster showing the render and specifications.

As the name implies and just as rendered on the poster, the UMIDIGI One Max comes with a wide display. The details include a 6.3-inch waterdrop display but the resolution is unknown at this moment. The device is also listed to pack a massive 128GB of storage, perhaps on one of the variants. In addition, it would be fired up by a dependable and mammoth 4,150mAh battery.

Let’s take a closer look at the design briefly. At the front, what stands out is the water drop notch design which gives the device a high screen to body ratio. The notch houses just the selfie camera. The bezels at the two edges are ultra thin while the chin and top edge bezels are trimmed to their barest minimum. At the rear, the device packs dual cameras that are arranged vertically at the top left corner while there is an LED flash at the bottom. The rear is similar to the Twilight gradient colour of the Huawei P20 Pro. So, we may likely see the Twilight hue on the device which means the back panel is made of glass. This design is also featured on the UMIDIGI One.

Other key details like the processor, camera configuration and others are still unknown. The price is also not yet known but that could become officially in a short while. We’ll keep you updated as soon as fresh details emerge.

We were right, the Honor Watch Magic is a cheaper Huawei Watch GT

Huawei announced a new smartwatch called the Watch GT at the Mate 20 event at the beginning of the month. We later learned that Honor was also going to release its own smartwatch. The watch was announced today and its called the Honor Watch Magic.

The Honor Watch Magic shares a lot of similarities with the Huawei Watch GT but costs less. It runs Light OS and has a similar design too but is smaller.

Specs and Features

The Honor Watch Magic has a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a 390 x 390 resolution, a PPI of 326 and support for multiple watch faces. The display is housed in a 316L stainless steel frame that measures 9.8mm in thickness (11mm with the glass). Depending on the version, the watch comes with silicone or leather bands. They are QuickFit 22mm bands and are easily swappable to match your style.

The Honor Watch Magic uses a dual-chip technology – one high-performance chip and an energy efficient chip. The watch also has a triple frequency GNSS receiver (GPS, GLONASS, and Compass/Galileo) for tracking.

In terms of its features, the Honor Watch Magic has Huawei’s TruSeen 3.0 technology for continuous heart rate monitoring. Also, with Huawei’s TruRelax technology and support from the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the watch provides 24-hour blood pressure monitoring and will suggest breathing exercises to help you keep calm with real-time feedback.

The Watch Magic also has TruSleep 2.0 which monitors 8 different sleep data, can identify up to six different sleep disorders, and can provide up to 200 sleep suggestions.

The watch can track lots of activities including swimming, mountaineering, cycling (stationary cycling too), walking, running (including treadmill running) and more. Honor says the Watch Magic has an altimeter, a compass, and a barometer for mountain climbing. It also has a built-in coach for workout sessions.

The watch also has NFC and supports Huawei Pay, AliPay and bus cards. Its battery is much smaller than that of the Huawei Watch GT – 178mAh as against 420mAh but Honor claims it can last up to a week for moderate usage and 10 hours with GPS turned on.

Vivo Y93 powered by Snapdragon 439 chipset launched in China for 1,500 Yuan ($215)

We recently reported that Vivo could soon launch a new smartphone in its home market named Vivo Y93. In line with our report, the company has today silently launched the Vivo Y93 smartphone in China.

The phone is priced at 1,500 Yuan, which roughly converts to $215 and is already available for purchase through the Vivo Online Store in China. It comes in two color options — Starry Night and Red. While the phone is up for sale in China, there’s no confirmation about its availability in other markets.

The company says that it is using 3D micro-arc design at the back to make the smartphone more ergonomic. The Vivo V93 sports a 6.2-inch HD+ LCD display with 1520 x 720 pixels resolution and a smaller teardrop notch at the top.

Under the hood, the device runs on an octa-core 12nm Snapdragon 439 processor clocked at 1.95 GHz along with an Adreno 505 graphics processor. In the memory department, the phone comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s also a microSD card slot which allows you to further expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 256GB.

Coming to the optics, there’s a dual camera setup on the back, consisting of a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor for depth sensing. The primary snapper features phase-detection autofocus for fast focus speeds and the phone also supports AI-powered portrait mode. On the front side, the device comes equipped with an 8-megapixel snapper with features like Face Wake, AI beautification, and AR stickers.

The front-facing camera also comes with Vivo’s AI beautification feature that analyses user’s skin texture, skin color, and scene light to add customized beautification effects. It also comes with Face Wake facial recognition feature, which the company claims can detect 1,024 unique features of the user’s face for higher security. Unfortunately, the device does not feature a fingerprint sensor.

The Vivo Y93 runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system with the company’s own FunTouch custom interface on top. It also comes pre-loaded with the company’s Jovi AI assistant. There’s also a Game Mode feature that aims to enhance your gaming experience. The phone is fuelled by a 4,030mAh battery but lacks fast charging support. However, it comes with intelligent battery-saving features that helps in extending battery stamina.
