Last week, Google officially released the latest version of its mobile operating system — Android 9.0 Pie. Now comes the part when smartphone manufacturers announce the list of their phones that will receive the latest Android update.
While Google and Essential have already rolled out Android Pie updates for their smartphones, HTC has now announced the list of its phones which will get the Android 9.0 Pie update.
The company has revealed that HTC U12+, U11+, U11, and U11 life (Android One) will receive the latest update. While the company has not revealed the timeline for the update, it has said that the timeline will be announced in due course.
The list of devices from HTC does not include HTC Desire 12, which was launched around five months ago. The U Ultra and U Play are also missing from the list, which are less than two years old.
Apart from HTC, Vivo has already announced that its smartphones will receive the Android Pie update in the fourth quarter of this year, and the Vivo X21 is likely to be the first phone to get the update. Xiaomi has also announced that the Android 9-based MIUI 10 beta update will soon be available for testing for the users of Mi MIX 2S.
Other smartphone manufacturers such as HMD Global (Nokia), OnePlus, and Oppo, which registered in the beta programme for Android P, are also expected to soon release stable Android Pie update to their devices.
IFA 2018 is going to be the most interesting hi-tech-related trade show of this second half of the year, and Lenovo will take part in the show with several new devices. Among these, according to the known leakster Roland Quandt from WinFuture.de, there will also be Yoga C930, the most powerful convertible from the Yoga line-up. The new model follows the Yoga 920 unveiled at IFA 2017 with a consistently improved specs sheet. According to the leaked specs, the new 2 in 1 will be very lightweight as it will weigh just 1.38 kg. But it will sport a wide 13.9-inch display with the support to the touchscreen and a highly detailed 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.
Thanks to a solid and sophisticated hinge, it will be possible to convert the Lenovo Yoga C920 from a notebook to a tablet by overturning the display and putting it behind the physical backlit keyboard. The display will also support the Lenovo Active Pen for handwriting and drawing with thousands of pressure levels. Under the hood, there will be Intel 8th gen processor: in detail, there should be a configuration with Intel Core i5 8250U (clock frequency of 1.6 GHz and up to 3.4 GHz with TurboBoost) and another more expensive one with Intel Core i7 8550U (running at 1.8 GHz and up to 4 GHz with TurboBoost) for top-class performance.
Alongside these CPUs, there will be 8 or 16 GB of RAM and an SSD with a capacity of 256 or 512 GB depending on the chosen configuration. The notebook is expected to be equipped with a USB-A port, a USB 3.1 port, two USB-C port with Thunderbolt 3, a 3.5 mm audio jack and dual band Wi-Fi connectivity. Lenovo Yoga C920 should also have an improved battery over its predecessor, with a capacity of 70 Wh. Given that it is a top-end device, it will be costly: it is expected to hit the shelves with a starting price tag of €1600 in Europe.
Many users were left disappointed after Meizu announced that several devices which were expected to receive the update to Flyme 7 will not get it anymore. But the company is keeping support for other eligible devices on a regular basis. Now, the Chinese company has just started to roll out a new stable version of its latest user interface on three smartphones. The new update coming via OTA brings the number of version of Flyme OS to 7.0.1.0G and it has been rolled out on Meizu M6, M6 Note and Pro 6 Plus. Although we are talking about an update to Flyme 7 released in August 2018, the firmware is still based on Android Nougat. Even the new security patches are not the most recent ones as they have been released in June 2018 (with the August patches already released).
According to the changelog of the new firmware released by Meizu, this new version of Flyme 7 brings important software optimizations which result in an increase in smoothness and performance. The new update recalibrates the memory in order to avoid lags or freezes. There are also improvements to the graphics with new icons, and a new artificial intelligence software called OneMind 2.0.
Together with the Honor Note 10, Honor Play is the latest Honor flagship launched by Huawei and it is a smartphone which focuses on gaming and high performance. After launching the Huawei Nova 3, the company has just confirmed through a post on Weibo that it will be launching a huge update for this phone on August 13. The post comes with a teaser image attached, but it does not reveal which kind of update the company is talking about. It is not possible to understand whether it will be a hardware or a software update. In the first case, we may see the launch of a new variant of the Honor Play with a different memory configuration.
According to the most reliable hypothesis, Huawei may launch the flagship in a version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, which would be the most expensive one as the ones available now boast 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. It makes sense as the flagship only exists with 64 GB of internal storage. If it is a software update, it may be related to the new CPU Turbo technology announced with the Honor Note 10. In case you do not know, this device is the first to come with the GPU Turbo technology, allowing an increase in performance by up to 60 percent with up to 30% reduction in energy consumption.
But recently Huawei announced the CPU Turbo technology and this has still not been rolled out on the Honor Play. The handset is currently available in China with a price tag of 1999 Yuan, which roughly translates into $292 at the actual change. It features a notched display with a size of 6.3 inches and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, as well as a powerful octa-core Kirin 970 chipset running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz (same SoC as the Huawei P20 Pro).
Is your phone on the list of YouTube Signature Devices? You should read on to find out.
YouTube has released a list of devices that are best for watching videos on its platform. The list is pretty short but includes the popular flagships from this year and the last.
The above devices are said to support the following technologies – HDR, 360° video, 4K decoding, high frame rate, digital rights management performance and next-gen codecs like VP9.
Google Pixel 3 XL was recently the subject of a leaked unboxing video which appeared online recently. The device has again appeared in a video preview which not only shows the design but also the Android Pie interface. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are expected to be the first smartphones that would run Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. Interestingly, the video preview comes courtesy of the same Telegram channel of a Russian tech blogger as the first leaked unboxing video. The video has, however, been uploaded to YouTube and you can find it below.
The video showcases a white coloured model and of course, we can clearly make out the notch design which has somewhat become a trend, an unpopular one at that. The video also shows some of the specs of the Pixel 3 XL, among which is a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels and 494ppi. This suggests a display in the region of around 6.7 inches based on calculations. At the rear, there is a single 12MP sensor while selfies are taken care of by an 8MP shooter.
Further, the Pixel 3 XL is listed with a Snapdragon 845 chipset as well as 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The device will get its juice from a 3,430mAH battery which is quite small but the device would be optimised for power efficiency. The video also showed a demonstration of the Always-on display feature which was unveiled with Android Pie. The tipster did indicate that the Pixel 3 XL model is a pre-launch version, so don’t be surprised if some of the hardware and features are different when the Pixel 3 XL is finally launched.
According to AndroidPolice, the BlackBerry KEY 2 LE will come with a Snapdragon 636 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. It will also come in 32GB ROM and 64GB ROM storage variants.
The processor is quite different from the Geekbench listing of the device which says it has a Snapdragon 660 processor. We’ll advise you keep your fingers crossed on this one.
As seen from leaked photos, the KEY 2 LE will have dual rear cameras but they will be less powerful. Instead of two 12MP sensors, they will be 13MP and 5MP sensors.
Even though the design of both the KEY 2 and KEY 2 LE appears the same, the latter is slightly smaller measuring 150.25 x 71.8 x 8.35 mm. It also weighs less at 156g. TCL has also cut the battery from 3500mAh to 3000mAh which is a pretty significant decrease. The phone will retain the display size and resolution of its more powerful sibling which is a 4.5-inch 1080 x 1620 screen.
AndroidPolice have also gotten their hands on a picture that shows both sides of the device. The QWERTY keyboard looks similar and it is said to house a fingerprint scanner under the spacebar key. However, it won’t have the trackpad functionality of the KEYone and KEY2 which is a bummer.
Recently, Samsung introduced its flagship smartphone — Samsung Galaxy Note 9, at a launch event in New York. Just a day after its unveiling, the company has now started taking pre-orders for the phone in the Indian market.

While the 6GB RAM model is priced at Rs. 67,900 (approximately $983), the 8GB RAM model costs Rs. 84,900, roughly $1,229.
If the user buys Galaxy Note 9 through Paytm Mall, a cashback of Rs. 6,000 will be provided. Also, making payments with HDFC Bank Credit or Debit Card will also avail cashback of Rs. 6,000. With Samsung Upgrade Program, users will also get upgrade bonus of Rs. 6,000 on the exchange of old device. The upgrade bonus is over and above the exchange value.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 features a 6.4-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity display with 2960 x 1440 pixels screen resolution with Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor while in some regions, it comes powered by Exynos 9810 processor.
The phone packs 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage while the 8GB RAM model comes with 512GB of onboard storage. There’s also a microSD card support that enables further expansion of phone’s storage up to 512GB.
Coming to the camera department, there’s a 12-megapixel primary camera with f/2.4-f/1.5 variable aperture and a 12-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture. On the front side, there’s an 8-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture and wide-angle lens.
The device is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. It also comes with stereo speakers tuned by AKG, and Dolby Atmos sound. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4/5GHz), VHT80 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5 (LE up to 2Mbps), GPS with GLONASS, USB 3.1, NFC, and MST.
The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with the company’s own Samsung Experience custom interface. It is fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging both on wired and wireless (WPC and PMA) charging.
Xiaomi announced a new crowdfunded electric-assisted bike around June this year with an amazing 1699 yuan ($248) price tag. Since then, the bike dubbed Himo V1 hasn’t been available to buy on the Youpin platform where all Xiaomi crowdfunded products are listed. However, all that has changed now as the Himo V1 electric bike is presently on sale at Xiaomi Youpin for 1799 yuan ($263). This is a 100 yuan higher than the crowdfunding price tag but it is still a decent and affordable price tag for an electric bike.
The Himo V1, just like all Xiaomi products, comes with a solid build and an attractive design. Its battery modules, electronic control systems, and chargers are all integrated into the design. The electric bike has a lightweight and compact structure with a reclinable handlebar. The handlebar is equipped with a multi-functional instrument panel having an LCD display. The panel also has three buttons, one is the power button, another is the button to switch modes easily. The LCD display shows various vital parameters like the battery power, the distance travelled and others. The panel comes with an IP54 waterproof build which makes it suitable for use when it is raining.
Further, the bicycle frame is made of aluminium alloy and in all, it weighs 16.7kg which is light enough for ladies to lift up easily. The battery and internal wiring is integrated with the frame and is covered with a plastic casing. The handlebar is also collapsible for easy transport. The Himo Electric Bicycle comes with an LED headlamp with enhanced brightness. The taillight is designed to have a large area for visibility of the bike to other road users. The device also features high-performance brake discs with the brakes connected to the taillight. The bike also comes with wear-resistant shock-absorbing tires to ensure driving safety.
The Himo electric bike gets its juice from a 250W brushless DC motor in the power-assisted mode. The DC motor is integrated into the 12-inch hub on the rear wheel. This brings ease to the pedalling by providing less resistance, greater torque and rapid dynamic response. There is also a 6AH/36V battery with a charging time of about 6.5 hours. A fully charged battery can last a riding distance of about 50 kilometres.
As stated, the Himo V1 electric-assisted bicycle is now available on Xiaomi Youpin for 1799 yuan. It is available in Glacier White and Vibrant Orange colours. We’ve got no idea when it will ship outside China but we spotted the Himo V1 on pre-order at GearBest for $549.99 with free shipping.

The OPPO Find X Super Flash Edition has the same 3,400mAh battery capacity as the Lamborghini Edition. OPPO has revealed that there are actually two 1700mAh batteries inside the phones as a safety decision.
With Super VOOC charge, the OPPO Find X Super Flash Edition can be charged from empty to full in just 35 minutes. The bundled Super VOOC charger has a power rating of 50W.
The rest of the specs are the same as that of the base model. You have a 6.42-inch display with a 93.8% screen to body ratio, a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and a 1080 x 2340 resolution. There is a Snapdragon 845 processor under the glass body.
The selfie camera is a 25MP f/2.0 sensor that pops out. When it does pop out, the dual rear cameras – a 16MP + 20MP combo – are also visible at the same time. The Find X also has 3D face scanning for face unlock with support for payments. There is NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and a USB-C port for connectivity.
Last year, in November, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meitu launched its flagship smartphone under the company’s V-series — Meitu V6. Now, the company is preparing to launch a new flagship smartphone this year.
According to the reports, the company is likely to ditch MediaTek’s processor and could instead opt for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset, which powers most of the flagship phones launched this year. Notably, the Meitu V6 was powered by MediaTek’s Helio X30 chipset.
Recently, details about Meitu’s upcoming smartphone with model number MP1801 appeared online through Geekbench listing, which revealed that the phone will be powered by Snapdragon 845 processor along with 8GB RAM. Further, it mentions that the device will be running Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box.
While the Geekbench listing shows the device model number, there’s no confirmation that the phone is indeed the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone. However, looking at the specifications, it’s likely the company’s flagship device.
Meitu V6, launched last year, is a luxury device which comes with a colorful hand-stitched calfskin leather that is available four different colors, 18K gold rivets on its back and gold colored metal frame. The phone also features four cameras — two on the back and two on the front side, along with four LED flash on the back panel.
At the time of launch, the Meitu V6 smartphone was priced at 5,099 Yuan (approximately $745) for the Standard Edition, while the Advanced Custom Edition costs 6,999 Yuan, which roughly converts to $1022. To know the pricing of the upcoming flagship smartphone from Meitu, we’ll have to wait for the company to officially launch the device.

The race for the adoption of 5G technology is still on, with Chinese companies well positioned to be the first to roll out the 5G network. Chinese technology company ZTE has repeatedly stated its aspiration to be one of the early birds to roll out their 5G infrastructure. The company has now announced that it has successfully completed tests of indoor 3.5 gigahertz and core fifth-generation wireless network technology in China’s third-phase national testing of the communications matrix on July 20.
The 5G tests are carried out collectively by a promotion group piloted by China’s industry and information technology ministry. According to a public message by the company on its WeChat account, the third phase will be the final stage before the technology can be commercialized.
To this end, ZTE plans to go commercial with the 5G technology with trial operation slated for the second half of this year. This will be a prelude to extensive commercial operation next year. The rollout will usher in a new phase for infrastructure construction for the next-wave technology. The total number of base stations all over China is expected to exceed 10,000, thus benefiting businesses throughout the telecommunications sector chain. 5G technology will take over from 4G and offers new opportunities in not just telecommunication but also health care, the automobile industry and several other sectors. 5G is said to be 100 times faster than the present 4G technology
Motorola is expected to bring the Moto Z3 flagship to Lenovo’s home country of China on August 15. The Moto Z3 is expected to come with a few surprises which would set it apart from the version launched in the U.S. From the look of things, that isn’t going to be the only surprise the company will be springing up on that day as a new rumour has emerged pointing to the launch of a new P30 series made up of three models on that day.
According to a recent rumour, Motorola listed the Moto P30, Moto P30 Play and MotoP30 Note on its Chinese website as coming soon. Although screenshots of the webpage listing were shared, we couldn’t independently verify the authenticity because nothing of such was found on the Motorola China website. It is possible that the product pages were removed.
The listings are not very generous with the specifications of the models as they only show the memory and colour options of all three models that would be available to buyers. The P30 will come in a 4GB RAM + 64GB combo and a 6GB RAM + 64GB combo. The device will also come in Bright Black colour option. On the other hand, the Moto P30 Play will be available in a 4GB + 64GB combo and fans will get the chance to choose between an Ice Jade White and Bright Black colour options.

The P30’s listing also tips the model to be available in Full Netcom Open Edition and Full Netcom Mobile Edition. The open edition may likely include compatibility with CDMA carriers in addition to GSM carriers.

Meizu 16 vs Xiaomi Mi 8: Design
There is no doubt that both the companies put a lot of efforts into the design of their latest flagships. Meizu 16 comes with symmetric design, it does not have a notch even though its screen-to-body ratio is one of the highest (almost the same as the Vivo Nex!). It has a ceramic-like glass back composed of 7 layers of glass, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader making its aesthetics even cleaner and more symmetric. Xiaomi Mi 8 has a good design as well with its reflective back, but it is nothing new and shares many things in common with other flagships such as Honor devices and iPhone X. So we are going to pick Meizu 16 for its originality.
Display
While Meizu 16 has better aesthetics, Xiaomi Mi 8 seems to have a better display, at least on the paper. Indeed, it features the HDR10 technology and DCI-P3 coverage which should make its colors richer than the ones of its rival. Anyways, both are Full HD+ panels with the Super AMOLED technology, so even if you choose Meizu 16, you will still get an amazing screen with vivid colors and deep blacks.
Meizu 16 vs Xiaomi Mi 8: Specs & Software
With Meizu 16, finally, Meizu switched to a flagship SoC by Qualcomm. This device is much better than every other device released by Meizu because it features the powerful Snapdragon 845. And one of its configurations has even 8 GB of RAM, the biggest quantity of volatile memory ever implemented on a mobile phone. Xiaomi Mi 8 has Snapdragon 845 as well, but just 6 GB of RAM. So Meizu 16 wins the comparison when it comes to hardware. Further, Meizu 16 features liquid cooling technology as well, which gives it an edge over Mi 8 in gaming.
In terms of software, we prefer Xiaomi Mi 8 due to its MIUI with more features and a stronger software support.
Meizu 16 vs Xiaomi Mi 8: Camera
Both handsets have stunning cameras with bright apertures, high resolutions, and important additional components. Xiaomi Mi 8 has been included in the top 10 best camera phones by DxOMark, but given the specs of Meizu 16 on the paper, we believe its camera performance will not be so different! However, until we try its camera or have enough camera samples to judge its quality, we can not pick a winner. Selfie cameras are equivalent and both stunning with their 20 MP resolutions. And both boast AI-driven algorithm to get selfies more beautiful. But note that the Xiaomi Mi 8 is the only which features 3D facial recognition for authentication. So it is safer and easier to unlock the phone by using this device. On the other hand, Meizu 16 features an in-display fingerprint reader which is still an innovative and comfortable method of authentication.l
Battery
From this point of view, Xiaomi Mi 8 should be superior as it features 400 mAh more of capacity. With just 3010 mAh, even though we still haven’t tested it, we believe that Meizu 16 will not go beyond a day of battery life with a moderately-stressed use.
Meizu 16 vs Xiaomi Mi 8: Price
For now, Meizu 16 has been launched in China only, where it has a starting price of about $395 which is very cheap. Xiaomi Mi 8 instead is available all around the world, and you can get it at different prices depending on the market. In China, it has been launched with a starting price of $421. It is very hard to pick a winner among these devices.
In my opinion, it is almost a draw, but I would choose the Mi 8 for its bigger battery and better support. However, if you can afford the Plus version of the Meizu 16, it is way better than the Mi 8 with its bigger display and bigger battery as well.
