Huawei launching EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie at IFA 2018, Updates to start in September

Android Pie has been made official just a couple of weeks ago and it is only available on smartphones from the Google Pixel line-up and the Essential Phone PH-1. But Huawei will soon bring the new major version of the operating system on its devices. According to a company’s official, the new custom user interface EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie will be officially announced at IFA 2018 in Berlin, one of the most important hi-tech related trade shows of the year which will take place on August 31.

The company has also confirmed that the first updates to the new version will start to roll out right after the announcement. We don’t know if the company will start updating its handset from the day after, but surely the update will start coming in September. If so, Huawei will be among the first companies to update its main handsets to Android Pie. The first smartphones to receive the update will be the ones from the Huawei P20 series. Together with them, the Mate 10 series (including the RS Porsche Design edition) will receive the update notification as well, but it is not said that it will roll out at the same time.

It is speculated that the Mate 9 series may join too. There is no official confirmation regarding all the other devices from the Chinese company. But we presume that some of the most important flagships from the Honor sub-brand will be updated as well, such as Honor 10 and V10. Just to remind you, it has been previously confirmed that the company is working on testing the update even for these two devices. EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie will surely bring several improvements, just like every major Android version. Among these ones, there will surely be a better battery management.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 detailed teardown gives a glimpse of its internal components

A few days ago, we showed you the first teardown of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which revealed that the phone features a liquid cooling system just like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Now, a way more detailed teardown courtesy of TechInsights is showing us the most important single components of the new Korean flagship one by one. The model that you can see in the photos is the U.S. variant of the device carried by AT&T with Snapdragon 845 chipset inside. In Europe, there is another variant with Exynos 9810, so the processor is not the same on each variant.

There are several components that you can see in the photos below. The teardown has revealed the presence of an LPDDR4X SDRAM module Samsung K3UH6H60AM-AGCJ (6 GB of RAM) in a PoP (package-on-package). Inside the phone, as you can see, there is also a Samsung KLUDG4U1EA-B0C1 internal storage with a capacity of 128 GB eUFS 2.1. There is an NFC 80T17 controller made by NXP and a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module Murata KM8509176. We can also see a Maxim MAX98512 audio amplifier, a Broadcom AFEM-9096 LTE module and the WDC9341 audio codec by Qualcomm.

All the camera sensors have been separated from the rest of the phones, highlighting a rear dual camera with 12 MP resolutions, OIS and variable apertures (it is possible to use f/1.5 and f/2.4), as well as an 8 MP front camera with f/1.7 aperture. A dual SIM tray is placed on the upper side of the phone: Samsung Galaxy Note 9 exists in both a single SIM and a dual SIM variant. The dual SIM one has a hybrid slot which can also be used as an expansion slot if you don’t use a second SIM. And obviously, there is the liquid cooling system that we mentioned above. However, the internals are not so different from the ones of the Note 8.

You can check out the detailed teardown from here!

Xiaomi Redmi 6A receives price cut after just two months of launch

Xiaomi Redmi 6A, the stripped-down variant of the Redmi 6 which was launched in June this year, has now received a price cut of 50 Yuan in China. However, it seems that the price cut is applicable to the 2GB RAM model only.

The phone, which was priced at 599 Yuan (approximately $87) for the 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage model, is now available for 549 Yuan (approximately $80) on Xiaomi‘s official website.

Xiaomi Redmi 6A Price Cut China

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A features a 5.45-inch HD+ display with screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device is powered by MediaTek Helio P22 12nm octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz.

Initially, the phone was launched with 2GB RAM with 16GB storage. Then, the 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage model was introduced. Later, the company also launched the 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage variant.

In terms of the optics, there’s a 13-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and a front-facing shooter of 5-megapixel that can capture images with background blur effect. The company has also offered AI Face Unlock feature, and thus, has removed not included the fingerprint sensor.

It is available in four color options — Platinum Silver Gray, Rose Gold, Bali Blue and Quicksand Gold.

First low-light camera sample from Oppo R17 Pro’s triple cameras looks impressive!

The newly-announced Oppo R17 Pro is definitely one of the most interesting camera phones of 2018 as it features a triple camera setup just like the Huawei P20 Pro as well as a variable aperture like Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus and Note 9. Its camera department combines the most innovative camera features of this year, but will the photo quality reflect the goodness of these technologies? It is still too early to know the real quality of the setup given that the phone has just been announced, but in the meantime, the Chinese company has published the first camera sample shot from its triple camera on a post published from its Weibo account.

Even though the photo has been captured in low-light condition, there are no signs of digital noise in it. From this shot, we can assume that Oppo R17 Pro has pretty good quality when it comes to camera performance and its bright aperture works very well in low light situations. There are a number of processes involved in improving the low light sample, including AI image analysis, pixel-level color reconstruction, and cleaning the image to remove noise.

Note that you can’t really talk about a flagship’s camera performance until its honest review. So, don’t keep your hopes too high just yet. In case you missed, Huawei was caught marketing a DSLR picture as a Nova 3i AI beauty sample, so we can never really be sure whether the photos come from the said device.

The triple rear camera of the OPPO R17 Pro is composed of three different sensors. The first is the one with a variable aperture (from f/1.5 to f/2.4), and it sports a 16 MP resolution. The second has a 20 MP resolution and a f/1.7 aperture, while the third has a resolution of 8 MP and it is capable of 3x optical zoom without loss of detail.

At last, there is a selfie camera with a 20 MP resolution and a f/2.0 aperture. Among the other specs of the Oppo R17 Pro, we can find a 6.4-inch display with a minimal notch (just for the front camera), a very high screen-to-body ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. Under the hood, there is an octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset by Qualcomm supported by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage expandable with a micro SD up to 256 GB. Its battery has a 3415 mAh capacity and Android 8.1 Oreo is installed out of the box.

Meizu 16X scores big on AnTuTu with Snapdragon 710, 6GB RAM

Meizu thrilled us recently with the launch of the Meizu 16 and 16 Plus which are unarguably affordable flagship models. The models went on sale for the first time earlier this week in China and the sales were a hit. Meizu is also working on another model dubbed Meizu 16X. The 16X is tipped to launch in September and ahead of that, we had spotted the device on Geekbench where some of the specs were revealed. the Meizu 16X has again been benchmarked, this time on AnTuTu.Meizu 16X

The device arrives with the model number Meizu M1872 and from the listing, it will feature a FHD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. Honor 8X pops up in live photo: it seems HUGE!

Unlike the previous generation of the Honor “X” line-up, the Honor 8X will be a way more out-of-the-usual device. It will not be just a random midrange smartphone, but it will be a huge phablet, so it will be a direct rival of the new Xiaomi Mi Max 3. This is what the latest leaks suggested, and this is also what we can notice in a live photo that has just surfaced online. The photo shows two phones stacked on top of each other with two boxes, hinting at the existence of two variants of the upcoming Huawei device.

According to reports, these two variants of the Honor 8X will sport a 7.12-inch and a 6.95-inch display, respectively. The diagonal of both variants is even higher than the one of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, but note that the Xiaomi’s phablet has a display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, while the Huawei ones are expected to come with a notch, so with a 19:9 aspect ratio. This means that despite the diagonal being longer, the surface of the display will be smaller than Xiaomi Mi Max 3. The source of the live photo claims that the upcoming handset will boast a very powerful hardware side and a new “elevator” mode allowing the user to switch between different networks without losing the connection.

Honor 8x box
Honor 8x box

It would be a very useful feature for gaming, given that if you disconnect during a multiplayer match you automatically lose the match. This makes us think that Honor 8X will be equipped with both CPU Turbo and GPU Turbo technologies which can enhance the gaming experience by making the overall performance of CPU and GPU better (while reducing energy consumption). According to reports, Huawei Honor 8X will be launched in China with a price tag above CNY 2,000, which roughly translates into $292.

Android Go Powered Ulefone S1 gets its first Hands On Experience (Video)

Smartphones of 2018 are powerful enough to manage daily tasks without major hiccups, even the ones that are cheap. But with all the bloatware that every manufacturer add to their smartphones, you might miss out on a smoother UI experience especially on phones that are cheaper than $100. This is where Google’s Android GO comes to the rescue of such cheap smartphones. Android Go is built from scratch to ensure that low-end smartphones, even ones with only as much as 512 MB of RAM can run applications without  lag, making for a smooth user experience. This is probably why Ulefone decided to go with the Android Go platform for its latest budget smartphone, the Ulefone S1. Now, the company has shown us a first basic hands on of the S1 model on their youtube channel.

The video shows the Ulefone S1 going through basic tasks like browsing instagram, checking mails or adding events on Google assistant. Note that many of these are special Go editions of the regular apps like Google Go, Assistant Go, and even Gmail Go. But in return, your Android experience is smooth and lag free, even on a smartphone with just 1GB of RAM on board.

The Ulefone S1 comes with MT6580 inside with 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage. On the camera department, it even hosts a dual camera on the back with 8MP/5MP combo as well as a 5MP selfie shooter. In the terms of battery, the S1 features a 3000mAh capacity battery that should give the device an excellent battery performance.

Note that starting from August 20th till 28th, the Ulefone S1 will be on available for just $9.9 every day at exactly 3:00 PM GMT+8 on Aliexpress. Of course, there are only limited units available at this price, so tune your watches and be quick! Realme 2 smartphone to launch in India on August 28

Following the success of Realme 1, the Oppo‘s sub-brand split up from its parent company to become an independent brand. Now, Realme is prepping up to launch the Realme 2, the successor of Realme 1 that was launched earlier this year.

The company has sent out media invites for the Realme 2 launch event, which is scheduled to take place in India on 28th August. Recently, the firm teased a couple of features of the upcoming phone, including the notched display and dual rear cameras.

Realme 2 India Launch Invite

Today, the company has confirmed that the phone will be backed by a 4,230mAh battery, which is an upgrade compared to the 3,300mAh battery on its predecessor.

Recently, the phone’s retail box and press renders were leaked online, which had revealed both the features that the company teased. The leaked render also confirms that there’ll be a fingerprint sensor on the back panel, unlike the Realme 1.

Currently, no more information is available regarding the phone. However, it is being speculated that the phone will carry a 6.23-inch Full HD+ display and pack MediaTek MT6771 Helio P60 processor — the same one that powers the Realme 1 and the newly announced Oppo F9 and F9 Pro. There’ll be a couple of variants of the phone, based on the memory configuration, which is believed to go up to 6GB.

While there’s no information about the phone’s pricing, we are confident that it’ll definitely be priced under Rs. 20,000 (approximately $285) to take on the likes of recently launched Xiaomi Mi A2. However, to know the phone’s specifications, pricing, and availability details, we’ll have to wait for the company to officially unveil the device, which doesn’t seem far away.

To recall, the Realme 1 comes with a 6-inch Full-HD+ display and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 SoC clocked at 2GHz with a dual-core AI-specific chip. It features a 13-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front snapper. It runs on Android Oreo-based ColorOS and is fuelled by a 3,410mAh battery.

360 N7 Pro Hands on pictures: Premium mid-range phone at its best

When 360 Mobiles announced the N6 Pro last year, the smartphone was said to have ticked all the boxes to emerge as the premium midrange king. The 360 N7 Pro seems to continue from where its predecessor left off and even adds more features to position the device ahead of its predecessor. The device is indeed a premium midrange phone at its best as can be seen on the specs table. Also, the design is superb, a flawless beauty the N7 Pro is, as can be seen from the hands-on pictures which we bring you in this article.

360 N7 Pro 03

The 360 N7 Pro is one of the few mid-range models which come with an all-glass body and you’ll agree this usually accords a classy look to the model. The device features a metal fuselage and a premium glass covering at the back. This joins the fullscreen glass display up at the front. The phone adopts a 5.99-inch FHD+ screen with a 2160x1080pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The beautiful design is highlighted on the model with a red paint job on the metal fuselage on all four sides while the glass panel at the front and rear come in black. There is also a variant painted in black all around.360 N7 Pro 13

The N7 Pro is different from its predecessor in the arrangement of its rear shooters. While the N6 Pro dual cameras are aligned vertically at the centre, the N7 Pro is arranged horizontally at the top left corner with the LED flash at the side. The device equally packs a fingerprint sensor at the rear mounted at the centre. The rear cameras adopt a split design and are not stacked in the same housing as on the N6 Pro and N7 Lite. The 360 brand name and logo are also stamped at the bottom part of the back panel. In addition, the N7 Pro has a USB-C port and despite having a thin build, it still packs a 3.5mm audio jack at the top edge.360 N7 Pro unboxing

Today, at a launch event in India, along with the Oppo F9 Pro, the Chinese company also launched its stripped-down variant, the Oppo F9.

In comparison with the F9 Pro, there are few differences in the F9, including the memory and the camera sensor. It lacks Oppo‘s proprietary VOOC flash charging and comes with slightly different gradient colors.

Oppo F9

The Oppo F9 flaunts a 6.3-inch Full HD+ Waterdrop display with 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution and 19.5:9 screen aspect ratio, similar to the F9 Pro. Under the hood, this is too is powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core 12nm processor — the same chipset that powers Oppo Realme 1.

It comes with 4GB RAM while the F9 Pro packs 6GB RAM. It packs 64GB internal storage and has a microSD card slot for expanding the capacity up to 256GB. Coming to the camera, there’s a dual-camera sensor with a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor.

The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with the company’s own custom interface ColorOS 5.2 which comes with some advanced features such as Smart Bar, in order to offer a smoother experience to users.

In India, the Oppo F9 smartphone is priced at Rs. 19,990, which roughly converts to $287. Just like the F9 Pro, the phone will be available for purchase in India from 31st August through online stores as well as offline retailers across the country.

Xiaomi Poco F1 specs, price rumor roundup: All that has been revealed ahead of launch

Xiaomi Poco F1 smartphone is launching tomorrow. It is the first phone that will introduce Xiaomi’s new sub-brand named Poco. Recent reports suggest that the new brand has been established to offer customers to offer performance-oriented smartphones at affordable pricing. Most of the currently available affordable flagship phones such as OnePlus 6 and Honor 10 are priced between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 40,000 in India. However, it is speculated that the highest configuration variant of the Poco F1 would be priced under Rs. 30,000. Here is all that is known about the Poco F1 smartphone.

Design

From the front, the Poco F1 handset appears looks like the Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone that was unveiled in China few months ago. In other words, it borrows the notched display design from the Mi 8. The handset features a wider notch because it not only houses the selfie camera and but IR camera too with flood illuminator. Also, instead of the S-AMOLED screen on the Mi 8, Xiaomi has employed IPS LCD panel display on the Poco F1.

The Mi 8 smartphone features a glass rear, but the affordable Poco F1 is fitted with a polycarbonate rear. The vertical dual camera and a fingerprint scanner are positioned on the rear shell of the F1.

Xiaomi Poco F1

Specifications and Features

The Poco F1 is expected to house a 6.18-inch IPS LCD screen that will offer an aspect ratio of 18.7:9 and Full HD+ resolution. The Snapdragon 845 chipset is accompanied by liquid cooling technology for maintaining the internal temperature while performing processor intensive tasks on the phone. Moreover, it is expected to arrive with a big battery of 4,000mAh capacity that will carry support Quick Charge 3.0.

Here are the rumored storage and color variants of the Xiaomi Poco F1:

64 GB storage + 6 GB RAM – Russo Red, Steel Blue, Graphite Black and Gradient

128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM – Russo Red, Steel Blue, Graphite Black and Gradient

256 GB storage + 8 GB RAM – Steel Blue, Graphite Black, Gradient and Armoured (Kevlar)

The 6 GB RAM and 8 GB RAM variants of the Poco F1 have surfaced on Geekbench benchmarking platform with impressive single-core and multi-core scores. Hence, it appears that the powerful SD845 chipset coupled with a long-lasting battery will allow the Poco F1 to deliver unmatched flagship performance. No wonder the Chinese manufacturer is teasing the smartphone with taglines like “master of speed” and “blazing speed at all times.”

POCOPHONE F1

The dual camera setup of the Poco Fi is expected to feature a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. For shooting selfies, it could be featuring a 20-megapixel frontal camera. The front and rear cameras of the Poco F1 are expected to carry numerous AI features for optimized photo shooting experience.

The Android 8.1 Oreo OS overlaid with Xiaomi’s proprietary ROM, most likely MIUI 10 will come preinstalled on the smartphone. It will be coming with usual connectivity features such as dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C and 3.5mm audio jack.

Pricing

The 128 GB storage + 8 GB RAM variant of the Xiaomi Poco F1 is rumored to be priced around Rs. 25,000. This indicates that the base model of the phone may cost around Rs. 22,000 whereas the model with 256 GB storage + 8 GB RAM may arrive with a pricing of Rs. 29,000. Apart from Mi.com, Flipkart will be the only third-party retailer that will be selling the Poco F1 smartphone in India.

Xiaomi is currently the number one smartphone brand in India thanks to mid-range Redmi and Redmi Note series phones. With the arrival of the affordable Poco F1, the Chinese manufacturer could be aiming to make it big in the flagship market in India which will make it possible to increase its market share in the country.

Huawei uses DSLR for Nova 3i camera samples, busted by its own brand ambassador

Huawei has been caught in an advert mess of its own doing. The manufacturer was “caught” using a DSLR in place of its own phone, the Nova 3/Nova 3i in this case for camera samples in a video ad.

The 30-second video ad which features Egyptian actress, Sarah Elshamy, has her significant trying to take a selfie of her while she tries to apply her makeup before he does. In the completed ad, the scene is to actually show off the AI beauty feature of the camera which takes beautified pictures of you that appears as if you have make-up on.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Kf7g2XEWwI[/embedyt]

Unfortunately, behind-the-scenes pictures posted by the actress on her Instagram page shows that in this particular scene, the man is actually not holding the Nova 3 or Nova 3i. He’s not even holding anything in this “selfie-taking position”, rather there is another man with a DSLR camera at an angle that makes it appear as if a selfie is being taken.

[envira-gallery id=”207161″]

We probably wouldn’t know that there was no actual selfie if not for Ms. Elshamy but seeing as a feature of the phone which may convince buyers to purchase the phone is being advertised and it has been revealed that the selfie was not taken by the phone, prospective buyers may not be so eager to buy any of the two phones anymore.

Huawei Nova 3i advert fail

Ms. Elshamy has since deleted the picture but the damage has been done already. Huawei will most likely offer an explanation and an apology as to what happened and might even throw in a freebie or discount to entice customers but the deed has been done already.
