Razer, the popular gaming peripherals and smartphone manufacturer, has announced that it has an event on May 22. The event will hold in Beijing, China.
The poster doesn’t reveal much about what product will be launched but there are rumors it is the Razer Phone. Don’t be surprised. The Razer Phone may have been released since November 2017 but it didn’t make it to mainland China, although a special Chinese New Year version was sold in Hong Kong.
It appears the recent popularity of gaming smartphones in China has spurred Razer to want to penetrate the market. Though, it remains to be seen if it will succeed.
The Razer Phone will have to go against phones like the Black Shark Gaming Phone and the Nubia Red Devil. ASUS may also join the fight with its rumored ROG (Republic of Gamers) gaming smartphone.
While it definitely isn’t as powerful as the Black Shark which has the newer Snapdragon 845 SoC powering it and also sells for less at ¥3499 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB version, the Razer Phone has a few strengths of its own.
The 7-year ban imposed by the Commerce Department of the U.S. on ZTE prevents it to export components and software form the U.S. If the Chinese firm serves the ban, not only numerous employees will end up losing jobs but also its smartphone division will cease to exist. A recent report had claimed that ZTE has approached to the U.S. Commerce Department to withdraw the ban., However, it did not seem that the U.S. would cancel the ban soon until yesterday when none other than the U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he and China’s president Xi Jinping are working on cancelling ZTE’s ban.
According to Trump, the Commerce Department has been instructed to assist ZTE to get back into business as many employees have lost jobs in China.
President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!
The reason why the U.S. placed an export ban on ZTE was it had violated U.S. sanctions by selling goods and services to Iran and North Korea. The Chinese firm was fined $1.19 billion in March, and it was asked to dismiss four senior employees and dismiss 35 other staff that were involved in the misconduct. However, when it was found that the company did not discipline that the 35 other staff, a 7-year ban was placed on it.
Now the U.S. President has spoken in favor of ZTE, it seems that the Chinese firm will be soon able to continue its business as usual. It is speculated that Trump’s statement could be a well-planned strategy to negotiate a new trade deal with China.
The intelligence agencies of the U.S. are of the view that Chinese companies like ZTE and Huawei are cyber security threat to the U.S. The U.S. intelligence officials have even said that the Chinese government could be spying on the U.S. remotely through Huawei and ZTE phones.
Our intelligence agencies have warned that ZTE technology and phones pose a major cyber security threat. You should care more about our national security than Chinese jobs. https://t.co/7Ygh7805jg
This could be ther reason why U.S. House of Representatives member Adam Schiff who is also a ranking member of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee has criticized Trump’s statement by saying that he concerned more about Chinese jobs instead of national security.

Oppo has a tendency to launch a special edition variation of its flagship smartphone. When Oppo launched its flagship smartphone of this year — Oppo R15, we were expecting the company to soon launch a special variant of the device.
Recently, there were reports suggesting that the China-based smartphone manufacturer will launch a new variant of the Oppo R15 in Blue and Red color. Now, the report has been confirmed and it is believed that the upcoming variant is likely to be called Oppo R15 Barcelona Custom Edition.
Oppo has teased this product launch on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. In the post, the company mentioned the blue and red colors and also suggested that the conference will be presented in a special form. Further, the company said that the device will be launched tomorrow.
Oppo and Barcelona have been partnering up for a special edition smartphone since 2015. The first Barcelona Edition smartphone from Oppo was the R7 Plus in 2015, followed by Oppo R9 in 2016 and Oppo R11 FC Barcelona Edition last year.
The OPPO R15 comes with a 6.28-inch Full-HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and 2280 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. The phone’s rear panel is made out of 2.5D glass panel. The device comes fitted with a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. It runs on ColorOS 5.0 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. The R15 is fueled by VOOC fast charging enabled 3,450mAh battery.
Both the smartphones — Oppo R15 and Oppo R15 Dream Mirror Edition went on sale for the first time on April 1 and the official information from the BKK-owned OPPO indicates that the R15 has created a new sales record for the company in China. Opening day sales figures on the Jingdong, Tmall, and Suning showed a record sales exceeding that of the Oppo R11.

More and more users are making use of smartphones to capture photos. In the recent years, popular Chinese smartphone OEMs such as Huawei, OPPO and Vivo have concentrated on launching phones that high-end cameras. Xiaomi phones have always offered best specs at reasonable cost, but when it comes to photography, its smartphones haven’t raised much praises. However, the Mi Note 3 and Mi MIX 2S that offer AI enabled photography experience have managed to rank well on DxOMark benchmarks. This shows that Xiaomi is putting more efforts to launch phones with better photography prowess. An internal email from Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has surfaced online. It reveals that the company is planning to setup a new camera department to fulfil its goal of launching smartphones with stellar cameras.
According to Jun’s statement in the leaked email, since photography has become one of the key factors for many users, the company has decided to establish a separate camera department within the mobile phone division. By having a new camera division, the company aims to launch future Xiaomi phones with excellent cameras that will be on par with the top smartphone OEMs of the world.
On DxOMark, the Mi Note 3 has salvaged a score of 94 for photography whereas the Mi MIX 2S has scored 101. It is quite evident that Xiaomi is aiming to offer better photography experience on future phones. Currently, smartphones from Huawei and Apple are leading the DxOMark benchmarks.
Leaked information has revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will be arriving with 16-megapixel dual rear cameras and a selfie camera of 13-megapixel. Recent reports have revealed that the advanced front camera of the Mi 7 will carry support for 3D facial recognition. Like the Mi MIX 2S, the cameras of the Mi 7 are pegged to arrive with AI capabilities.
As we reported yesterday, Qualcomm and Google are working on a new SoC for upcoming Wear OS smartwatches and the first model to sport it should be launched by Big G in Q4 2018. The new processor will be made from scratch and it will replace the old Snapdragon Wear 2100 which is nothing more than an improved Snapdragon 400. The chipset should be called Snapdragon 3100 and according to new reports, it will bring important innovations in the wearables market. It seems that the new Qualcomm’s SoC will support eye-tracking which should make wearables compatible with AR glasses such as Google Glass.
Thanks to the eye-tracking technology, the smartwatch would be able to monitor the position of the pupil and cornea. To achieve this, the smartwatch is expected to include a camera with support for up to 120 fps and the SoC will send 36 million instructions per second in order to perform eye-tracking. Besides augmented reality, there may be many features which could take advantage of the eye-tracking, such as unlocking devices and controlling wearable through eyes. According to Pankaj Kedia from Qualcomm’s wearable division, the Snapdragon 3100 will also include several improvements.
It will be more efficient, so it will make batteries last more. It will provide a higher rendering speed, more smoothness and more features related to health and fitness monitoring. The SoC will include an ARM Cortex A7 CPU and an Adreno 304 GPU, as well as a new energy manager called Blackghost. Google is expected to announce the first smartwatch with Wear OS and Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 this fall. According to some rumors, it will be manufactured by LG. Indeed, the American FCC has recently certified an LG smartwatch which we have never seen before.
Will this SoC revive Wear OS or the operating system will keep declining in favor of fitness trackers?
The entire specs of the OnePlus 6 have been revealed ahead of its May 16 through its TENAA listing and other sources. It is expected to arrive with 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual rear cameras and a selfie snapper of 16-megapixel. A fresh teaser from the company reveal that the OnePlus 6 will be arriving with AI capabilities for the front and rear-mounted cameras.
The camera samples of the OnePlus 6 were shared by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau in the previous month. The images shot with the dual rear cameras seems to capture images with rich details. The bokeh shots were also found to be impressive. One of the recent teasers from the company states that the OnePlus 6 dual camera can take on the likes of Apple iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy S9 and Google Pixel 2. OnePlus phones have also featured excellent cameras and it seems that the upcoming OnePlus 6 will not disappoint its buyers when it comes to photography.
Rumors have it that the 20-megapixel primary sensor from the dual camera module has an aperture of f/1.7 aperture. It will be assisted by a secondary 16-megapixel telephoto lens. The dual cameras are expected to carry support for optical image stabilization, portrait mode and slow-motion video shooting. There is no information available on the features of the selfie camera of OP6. The above teaser also states that there are only three days remaining for the launch of OnePlus 6 in China.
Few hours ago, the OnePlus 6 was found listed on Amazon Germany. The listing revealed that the smartphone would be releasing in the country on May 22. It will be available in colors like Mirror Black and Midnight Black. Leaked information has revealed that the OP6 would be also coming in some other colors like Coral Blue and White. However, Amazon Germany did not carry any information on these color variants.
According to the listing of OnePlus 6 on Amazon Germany li, the handset would be available in storage and RAM variants like 64 GB storage + 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage + 8 GB RAM. These models are expected to arrive with respective pricing of 519 euros (~$621) and 569 euros (~$680) in Germany.
Xiaomi took the wraps off its long-awaited Redmi S2 in May this year. As expected, the phablet boasts an array of awe-inspiring specs and features that are likely to sweep gadget lovers off their feet.
Much to the delight of Xiaomi fans that have restlessly been waiting to get their hands on the Redmi S2 phablet without emptying their pocket, GearBest is offering a big discount on the recently launched device’s original asking price. Let’s delve straight into the details.
While the Xiaomi Redmi S2 would normally set you back $181.58 on GearBest, the site is handing out a noteworthy 14% off on the device’s retail price. In other words, you can now buy the well-received phablet by shelling out only $155.99.
The discount is valid for the gray, gold, and rose gold color versions of the Xiaomi Redmi S2. The 4G phablet sports a big 5.99 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and it is housed in a robust aluminum body.
The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa Core 2.0GHz processor and it uses an Adreno 506 graphics processing unit, under the hood. Moreover, the Redmi S2 4G phablet offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.

OnePlus 6 is slated to go official in multiple countries later in this week. However, Amazon Germany seems to have accidently listed the OnePlus 6 along with high resolution photos and pricing. The listings for the two variants of the OnePlus 6 are no longer available for viewing which suggests that the retailer giant has removed them. Here is all the information that have surfaced through the Amazon Germany listing of OnePlus 6.
OnePlus 6 was listed in color variants like Mirror Black and Midnight Black on the retailer site. Even though leaked information has revealed that there could be a white edition of the OnePlus 6, this color variant was not listed on Amazon Germany. The listing had also revealed that the OnePlus 6 would be available for buying in the country starting from May 22. On May 21, the Chinese manufacturer will be carrying out global pop-up events at multiple regions including European countries to let OnePlus fans buy the OP6 before the official release date.
[envira-gallery id=”190569″]
Amazon Germany had listed the OnePlus 6 in 64 GB and 128 GB storage variants. These models are respectively packed with 6 GB and 8 GB of RAM. The 64 GB and 128 GB OnePlus 6 variants were respectively listed with pricing of 519 euros (~$621) and 569 euros (~$680). The Chinese manufacturer had itself confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will be also available in higher model featuring 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. This variant wasn’t listed on the retailer site. The base model with Mirror Black will be exclusively available in Germany. If customers want to purchase the matte version, they will have to invest in the 128 GB model that comes with 8 GB of RAM.
As far as specs are concerned, previous leaks have already revealed that the OnePlus 6 will be arriving with a 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED display that supports 19:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. The notch present on the top of the display features an earpiece, a notification LED and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. The vertical dual camera setup sitting on the rear of the phone features a 16-megapixel sensor and a 20-megapixel sensor. The dual cameras are equipped with features like optical image stabilization, portrait mode and slow-motion video shooting.
The Snapdragon 845 chipset that includes an octa-core processor that works at 2.7 GHz will be driving the phone. Amazon’s listing for the upcoming OnePlus smartphone did not contain any information for its battery. The TENAA certification of the OnePlus 6 in China has already revealed that it features a 3,300mAh battery. The handset also carries support for dual-SIM. It is loaded with the Android 8.1 Oreo OS that is probably customized with the latest version of OxygenOS.
The OnePlus 6 is the first flagship phone from the company to feature glass chassis. According to Amazon Germany’s listing, the OP6 features Gorilla Glass 5 on its front and rear sides. It features an aluminum frame with the Alert Slider now positioned on the right edge. The listing also confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will be water-repellent device. However, there was no mentioning of IP rating on Amazon. The Chinese manufacturer has retained 3.5mm audio jack on the OnePlus 6.
It appears the rumor about the Xiaomi Mi 7 arriving at the end of the month is true. A new info has confirmed the next flagship may arrive in less than two weeks.
A photo taken outside a China Mobile store shows a LED signpost that says pre-order for the Xiaomi Mi 7 begins May 27. This lends credibility to the leaked poster that mentioned the phone will launch on May 23.
If the Xiaomi Mi 7 arrives this month that puts a 2-month gap between it and the Mi MIX 2s which seems pretty small. We have a feeling it may affect sales of the MIX flagship even though there will be a few differences in design and some features.
The Xiaomi Mi 7 is rumored to have a 5.6-inch OLED display with a notch at the top. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 is the expected chipset of choice and it is paired with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage.
It is also expected to support wireless charging like the Mi MIX 2s, and have dual rear cameras, 3D facial recognition, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and a 3,350mAh battery.
The LG G7 ThinQ was announced a few weeks ago but LG failed to disclose the selling price. A UK based retailer has begun taking pre-orders and has revealed the price of the device.
The LG G7 ThinQ comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and the seller has it in Aurora Black and Platinum Gray. Irrespective of the version you choose, you will have to shell out £495 (~$670/~€561) or £594 including VAT (~$805/~€674) depending on your country and excluding shipping charges. This is significantly cheaper than the rumored €849 price we heard at launch.
The LG G7 ThinQ has a 6.1-inch FullVision QHD+ screen with a notch at the top and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor found in other flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ and the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s.
Even though the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus was released quite some time ago, it is still one of the best budget phones of 2018. It offers great specs, premium design, good display and more features. You can now get it for just $165.99 from Gearbest’s flash sale. This is a great Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus deal.
The highlight of the specs is the Snapdragon 625 chipset that has already proven to be a capable performer when it comes to gaming and especially when it comes to power efficiency. Other specs include 3GB of RAM and 32GB ROM. The device also has a 13MP camera on the back and a 5MP shooter on the front.
If you combine a pretty big battery (4000mAh) with the most power efficient chipset, you should have great results and this is what you have to expect when using the Redmi 5 Plus on the daily basis.
I was able to achieve a very impressive screen-on time of over 14 hours but obviously, your mileage may vary, depending on the usage.
The 360 N6 Pro was released in the last quarter of 2017. The Snapdragon 660-powered device runs Android Nougat out of the box but should get an upgrade soon.
360 Mobiles has announced that the N6 Pro will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo. In the announcement, it was also revealed that it has begun recruiting testers for the open beta version of Android Oreo for the device.
360 N6 Pro
The 360 N6 Pro has a 5.99” FHD+ display, up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It has dual rear cameras – a 16MP primary sensor paired with a 2MP secondary sensor. It also has an 8MP front-facing camera.
It also has a large 4050mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. There is a fingerprint scanner on the rear but it will be a nice addition if the Android Oreo update comes with Face Unlock.
We recently learned from several companies that various 5G smartphones will hit the shelves in 2019. Huawei has already confirmed that it will launch a 5G portable hotspot in the first half of the year and a 5G smartphone in the second half. But according to new revelations by Qualcomm, 5G devices may be launched even in 2018.
According to the Senior Vice President Durga Prasad Malladi in an interview with the Economic Times, aggressive OEM partners are pegging to launch their first 5G smartphones before the end of this year. The most important carriers should also be ready to provide the 5G connectivity this year. Here’s what he said:
Some operators in fact have gone on the record and stated that they would like to commercialize in late 2018 itself. We are doing everything that we can to help them.
Carriers will offer at least 2 or 4 Gbps speed: in case you don’t know, an actual 4G connectivity can barely break down the Gigabit wall. Qualcomm’s Senior VP thinks that 5G connectivity will drastically change the way we do things on the internet as its high speeds will revolutionize everything. 5G smartphones will not be the only devices to support this connectivity: we also expect to see ARM-based laptops and more.
OnePlus will finally announce its newest flagship, the OnePlus 6 later this week. Like tradition, most of the details of the smartphone are already available, which leaves basically the price tag to be revealed on the launch date. Today, a number of OnePlus 6 cases have been leaked, once again, confirming the design of the device. The new case leak has no surprises and conforms to the what we’ve seen earlier.
The big takeaways from this case leak are the vertically arranged camera setup and the 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom. The dual cameras are placed vertically at the back with LED flash and the fingerprint reader below it. Right below the fingerprint sensor lies the OnePlus logo. So, the basic back design remains the same as its predecessor (even OP5T had a fingerprint sensor at the back with the logo below it), save for the placement of the camera sensor.
OnePlus had already confirmed the headphone jack on the OnePlus 6. It looks like the placement will be similar to the one on the OP5T. In fact, the case confirms that the bottom design will be the same as its predecessor.
OnePlus-6-headphone jackOneplus 5T Bottom Design
Apart from these features, the OnePlus 6 is confirmed to feature the notch on top, a Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. A teaser even hints at waterproofing, a first for a OnePlus flagship. Given the presence of the glass back (instead of metal as found on the previous two generations), there’s a lot of speculation that the phone will feature wireless charging too. But that remains to be confirmed.
Expect the OnePlus 6 to be priced below $600 for the base version. But the company is likely going to charge a premium for its new flagship, so a price hike is expected.
Xiaomi has released a bunch of new devices this year and this is just the fifth month. If you are eager to know what Xiaomi has planned for the next 6 months or more, then this should excite you.
A list of Xiaomi products (released and mostly unreleased) just surfaced online. It was seen on the website of the Eurasian Economic Commission and mentions a bunch of unreleased phones under the Mi and Redmi series. It also includes the already launched Mi MIX 2s and the spanking new Redmi S2.
The Xiaomi Mi 7 is rumored to launch this month but it seems it will bring along a less powerful variant called Mi 7 Lite. There is also a new S-series that includes the Mi S1, Mi S2, Mi S3, Redmi S1, and Redmi S3.
Xiaomi product lineup – includes Mi 7 Lite, Mi MIX 3s and more.
The Mi MIX 2s will also have a successor called the Mi MIX 3s which makes us wonder if there will be no Mi MIX 3. The Redmi series will also be getting some new members.
The list mentions a Redmi A1 and Redmi A2 in addition to successors to the already existing Redmi series. So we should expect the Redmi Note 6, Redmi Note 6A, Redmi Note 6a Prime, Redmi Note 6 Prime, Redmi 6 Plus, and Redmi 6a Plus will replace the current Redmi lineup.
With the return of the Play series, one would have thought that meant no Moto C series this year. It appears that won’t be the case as renders of the Moto C2 and Moto C2 Plus have surfaced online.
The Moto C series was first introduced last year as the cheapest Motorola phones in the 2017 lineup. They launched with entry-level specs similar to what you will find on Android Go devices announced this year.
The renders of the Moto C2 and C2 Plus show slight changes in design and features but since there is no info on specs, we can’t confirm if the internals have been upgraded.
[envira-gallery id=”190495″]
For the second-gen Moto C series, Lenovo has retained the polycarbonate body of their predecessors. However, the rear camera has been redesigned though it is still in a circular housing.
Up in front, the displays have 16:9 aspect ratios with thick bezels on all sides. The Plus now has a fingerprint scanner on the chin but both models are sporting LED flashes at the top for brighter selfies.
Xiaomi launched the Mi Crowdfunding program in India in April and the company kickstarted it with two products- the Mi Bluetooth Audio Receiver and Mi Selfie Stick. Xiaomi indicated that the products would only go on sale after each of them were able to garner up to 1000 backers. That goal seems to have been accomplished as the company has announced, via a Twitter post, the success of the crowdfunding program.
Both products are now available for sale on Mi India website. The products retain their crowdfunding price tags which is Rs. 1,099 (~$16) for the Mi Selfie Stick Tripod and Rs. 999 (~$15) for the Mi Bluetooth Audio Receiver.
To recall, the Mi Selfie Stick Tripod is a hybrid of a selfie stick and a tripod and it is equipped with a Bluetooth shutter remote. It can rotate 360 degrees and it can house large-sized phones like Mi Max 2. It is available only in Black color. It features Bluetooth 3.0 and can be used with Android phones running on Android 4.3 or above and iOS devices with IOS 5.0 or above. On its part, the Mi Bluetooth Audio Receiver is a wireless device that can be paired with a smartphone and used for playing music and answering phone calls. Its features include Bluetooth 4.2, headphone amplifier chip, 3.5mm audio jack and 97mAh battery. The battery can be charged fully in 2 hours and can last up to 4-5 hours of playback. In addition, it can be paired with two devices simultaneously, but only of them will be functional at a time.
After a certification by TENAA and a sighting on Geekbench, Vivo X21i has been spotted on the listings of famous Chinese carrier China Telecom. The carrier has just revealed almost all of its main specs, as well as the renders, showing the complete design of the upcoming variant of the X21. According to China Telecom, the upper-midrange device will be equipped with a 6.28-inch display which will have a notch and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The design consists of a typical glass sandwich with a metal frame, and on the rear side, there is a fingerprint reader.
There is still no info about the launch of a “UD” variant (like Vivo X21 UD) with an under-display fingerprint reader. Vivo X21i measures 154.37 x 74.98 x 6.99 mm and it weighs 159 grams. The device will be considerably thinner than the standard X21 even if the look doesn’t change much. While the standard version features an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, this one has an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 SoC manufactured on a 12 nm production process, which can run at a max frequency of 2 GHz and includes a Mali G72 MP3 GPU.
The SoC will be supported by 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which will be possible to expand via a micro SD up to 256 GB. There will also be a 12 + 5 MP dual rear camera and a 24 MP selfie snapper, while the battery will have a 3170 mAh capacity. At last, the operating system will be Android 8.1 customized by Funtouch OS 4.0. The device will launch in China on May 19 in 3 hues: Ruby Red, Aurora White, and Polar Night Black. It will cost 2698 Yuan (about $426).
