The Mi Mix 3 5G is Xiaomi’s first 5G smartphone. It initially launched in Europe, followed by China. The handset came with MIUI 10 based on Android Pie out of the box. It neither received MIUI 11 nor Android 10. Back in July, the company even said there were no plans for MIUI 12. But we missed out on statements provided by Xiaomi, in which it confirmed Pie-based MIUI 12 for this device. As promised, the firm has been now seeding the MIUI 12 update to users since last week.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G did not get proper software support it deserved being the company’s first 5G smartphone as well as a device from popular Mix series due to poor sales figure. But a petition on Change.org and requests from users finally made Xiaomi roll out MIUI 12 for this phone, however, it comes with Android Pie.

The update is currently available for the European (EEA) variant of the handset with build number V12.0.1.0.PEMEUXM (via Xiaomi Firmware Updater). The MIUI builds for this smartphone come in two more versions – Global & China. But they are yet to receive the update.

Though Mi Mix 3 5G has now received MIUI 12, it will be not getting Android 10 as per Xiaomi. It’s ironic because this phone was part of Android Q Beta program earlier last year.

Xiaomi is known to provide at least 3 MIUI updates to most of its devices. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case with Mi Mix 3 5G as the company’s first 5G smartphone is still running its launch software MIUI 10 based on Android Pie. Though Xiaomi customer support confirmed the handset to get MIUI 12 by the end of October, a new Q&A on Mi Community contradicts it saying “there is no update plans for the 5G variant”.

It is said that Xiaomi did not manage to sell a large number of Mi Mix 3 5G in both Europe and China. As a result, the company seems to have abandoned plans to update it even to MIUI 11 and Android 10.

Therefore, a petition was created on Change.org by an owner of the device urging Xiami to provide MIUI 11 update. A month later, the customer support confirmed direct upgrade to MIUI 12 but based on Android Pie. This brought relief to the users of the handset.

Recently, a post regarding MIUI 12 update for the regular (4G) Mi Mix 3 was posted by the company on Mi Community (via PiunikaWeb). It contains  a Q&A at the bottom where a question asks “What about the 5G variant?”

The answer to this question reads, “From the information we have, there is no update plans for the 5G variant. We do not know when an update might come, so kindly avoid raising queries about it. Any key information regarding a possible update will be announced in the subforum.”

This clearly contradicts the statement given by customer support. Unfortunately, since this post is new, we think Xiaomi might have changed its plans for the Mi Mix 3 5G. That means the company’s first 5G smartphone may never receive MIUI 12.

The Mi MIX 3 5G is Xiaomi’s first 5G phone. It was released back at the 2019 Mobile World Congress in February with a more powerful processor and a bigger battery than the 4G model announced in 2018.

TENAA has put up a listing of the phone on its database and it reveals the phone may be getting a different RAM and storage variant.

When it launched in February, the phone was announced in a single configuration with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. However, the TENAA listing mentions two different configurations – a 6GB + 128GB version and an 8GB RAM +256GB version.

The listing also mentions the phone runs Android 10, the latest version of Android. Save for these differences, the rest of the specs are the same.

The Mi MIX 3 5G (M1810E5GG) has a 6.39-inch OLED display with a 2340 x 1080 resolution. The phone has a slider design, so there is no notch and neither is there a punch-hole. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor.

The device has a 24MP camera in front and it is paired with a 2MP selfie camera while the rear is home to two 12MP sensors. Other features are a 3800mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4+ and 10W wireless charging, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, and a dedicated AI assistant button.

We don’t know when Xiaomi will announce these new variants but there is a chance they may be exclusive to China.

According to the latest news from China, Xiaomi is planning to release its first 5G handset in China in September. It won’t be the Mi Mix 3 5G that launched in Europe a few weeks back. Instead, Xiaomi will have a new 5G model for the Chinese market. The phone has already been teased by the company, which means a ‘September release’ could be in the cards.

What’s more, it is said that the Mi 9S 5G (that’s probably what it’ll end up being called) will be even cheaper than the iQOO Pro 5G that retails for around $530. This would most likely make it the cheapest 5G smartphone in China at launch!

With 5G network getting mainstream, China has already started to allot 5G license to network operators ahead of the timeline. Now, Xiaomi’s Vice President Lu Weibing has shared some updates related to this new wireless communication technology and Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G smartphone.

He says that 5G technology is moving rapidly and will cover all the cities by the end of next year. He also claims that by the second of next year, the price of 5G devices will come close to around 2,000 yuan (approximately $291).

Along with all these 5G-related predictions, Lu Weibing also revealed that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G will soon be launched in the Chinese market. The phone, which is the company’s first 5G smartphone, has already been launched in Europe.

Coming to the specifications, the Mi MIX 3 5G has a 6.39-inch Full HD+ display with 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution and 93.4% screen-to-body ratio. It is able to achieve this as a result of its slider (magnetic) design.

When it is pulled down, the user is greeted by a dual front-facing camera, which consists of a 24-megapixel primary lens and a 2-megapixel secondary lens. The slider also houses the earpiece, and LED flash; parts that will usually be housed on a bezel.

On the back side, there are dual 12-megapixel cameras with one being a wide-angle lens and other being a telephoto lens. It comes with support for 960fps super slow-motion recording, 4-axis image stabilization, scene recognition, Night Mode and HDR photography.

The smartphone has a single SIM slot, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for added security. It runs Android Pie with MIUI 10 and is powered by a 3,800mAh battery along with support for Quick Charge 4+ and 10W wireless charging.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G is priced at €599 (€699.90 in Italy) for the 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant and is offered in two color options — Sapphire Blue and Onyx Black. However, there’s no information about variants for the Chinese market.

The Mi MIX 3 5G is priced at €599 (€699.90 in Italy) for the variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.1 storage. It comes in Sapphire Blue and Onyx Black. The purchase page on the official Xiaomi Spain website lists only the blue variant and reveals sales will commence at 13:00 local time.

Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun granted an exclusive interview to China Central Television (CCTV) yesterday at the Boao Forum for Asia’s 2019 annual meeting held in Baoa, Hainan. Chairman Lei hinted among other things that the overall investment in 5G R&D in the industry is very high presently. He also hinted that Xiaomi strongly aims to be the number one provider of 5G mobile phones. Since this is the first year for 5G, Lei Jun says Xiaomi must be visible in the market by being among the first batch of 5G mobile phone providers in China. Also, he stated that the company must stay prepared to deal with the 5G phone demand for next year. This they can achieve by a lot of careful preparation and updating the product line as soon as possible. The company will also be thinking of ways to improve the cost/performance ratio in order to afford more people the opportunity to own 5G phones.

Xiaomi announced its first 5G phone, the Mi Mix 3 5G, at MWC 2019 in Barcelona last month. The phone is similar to the regular Mi Mix 3 that is already on sale in many aspects, including the design. Where the 5G version differs is that it is powered by the 5G-enabled Snapdragon 855 chipset instead of SDM 845. The phone is expected to become available in May but its global availability may be tied to the speed at which the network carriers roll out their 5G network.

Lei Jun also spoke about the firm’s investment in research and development, revealing that Xiaomi increased its R&D investment by more than 80% last year. He noted how R&D investments continue to grow and expressed is thought that the company’s investment in R&D investment is expected to increase tremendously this year. This increase in R&D investment will, no doubt, lead to an increase in the technical strength of Xiaomi’s products. We expect to also see more innovative and topnotch products just like the revolutionary Mi Mix concept phone. On foldable phones, the CEO reiterated what we already knew, that the company has a double folding foldable phone concept. He also hinted that the company explored several folding schemes but the double folding design emerged as the most practical one for the Chinese giant. So, we may actually see that design on the phone when it is eventually announced.

Gone are the days when Chinese companies blatantly copied western giants. In the past few years, companies coming out of China like Huawei and Xiaomi has pioneered a lot of modern-day innovations that go inside your phone. And it looks like the trend will continue for a foreseeable future.

Xiaomi has just revealed that it has successfully tested 100W fast charging for smartphones. Lin Bin, President and co-founder of Xiaomi revealed this news via a Weibo post a few hours ago. In the post, he revealed that the company’s engineers were able to achieve an astonishing 100W fast charging, which essentially charges a 4000mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in just 17 minutes! That’s nearly twice as fast as the SuperVOOC from OPPO, which is currently the fastest charging technology available in the market for a smartphone.  

The company was even kind enough to show us that OPPO’s SuperVOOC could only charge up to 65 percent by the time the Xiaomi model on display was charged completely. By the way, Xiaomi’s 100W charging tech is being called as Super Charge Turbo, at least according to the video.

Unfortunately, apart from this demo, Xiaomi’s Lin Bin didn’t share any more details about the technology. So, the big question now is, whether we’ll see it anytime in the near future. Interestingly, the company seems to have teased the update to the Mix 3 model earlier today. So, it couldn’t have been a coincidence that Lin Bin decided to share this today. Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G, the China-based company’s first 5G smartphone is claimed by the company to support 8K video streaming, thanks to the use of Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and Snapdragon X50 5G modem.

The company says that it has successfully tested using Unicom 5G in Shanghai that the phone can play 8K ultra-high definition videos online. It also says that the end-to-end 5G network solution provided by Nokia Bell is the first multi-vendor 5G live network communication base on the 3.3GHz frequency in China. With the ultra high-speed provided by the 5G network, its possible to stream 8K UHD videos on a smartphone.

As said, the Mi Mix 3 5G is Xiaomi’s first 5G smartphone and one of the few 5G phones that have been released so far. While the company has announced the pricing and release itinerary for Europe during MWC 2019 in Barcelona, it is expected to soon launch the smartphone in China.

The smartphone features a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED with a 1080 x 2340 resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 93.4 percent screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood, it is powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC, coupled with Snapdragon X50 modem, Adreno 630, and 6GB RAM.

It comes with a dual rear camera setup which consists of two 12-megapixel sensors with AI-based features. On the front side also, it features dual cameras – a 24-megapixel primary snapper and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The front-facing cameras are placed on a pop-up magnetic slider.

Just a few hours after announcing it will unveil the Mi 9 flagship on February 20, Xiaomi has again made another announcement. The Chinese giant has revealed that it will have another product launch on February 24. However, the location this time is in Barcelona, Spain.

For this announcement, Xiaomi took to its Twitter page. The poster doesn’t reveal much but the caption for the tweet asks fans to guess what products it will release at the event. This means we will be seeing more than one new product at the launch.

Notwithstanding, we won’t be surprised if Xiaomi announces another phone alongside the aforementioned ones. There is also a chance we might get to see the global version of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, hopefully at a cheaper price than its launch price since it is nearly a year old.

Within the next two months, Xiaomi will be launching the Mi MIX 3 5G flagship phone and Redmi Note 7 Pro phones in China. Another rumored phone from the company is Redmi Go Android Go smartphone. Previous reports haven’t revealed any details on Redmi Go phone. Today, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (CMIIT) has approved three Xiaomi models such as M1903F2A, M1092F1A and M1092F1T. It is speculated that these could be Redmi Go and Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G or Redmi Note 7 Pro.

The M190F1A and M1902F1T are variants of a single phone which could either be the Redmi Note 7 Pro or Mi MIX 3 5G or any other upcoming Xiaomi phone. The M1903F2A could be the Redmi Go smartphone because a similar model number of M1903CGCX was certified by IMDA authority of Singapore in December last year.

The above speculations are just calculated guess based on the rumored phones that Xiaomi may debut in the near future. The M1902XXX models could end up as Xiaomi Mi 9 models. Hence, it is advisable to digest the report with a grain of salt and wait for newer reports to confirm on the identities of M1903F2A, M1902F1A and M1902F1T.

The Redmi Note 7 that was unveiled in the previous week featured a waterdrop notch, Snapdragon 660 chipset, 48-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GM1 + 5-megapixel dual camera and 4,000mAh battery. Redmi has already confirmed that the Redmi Note 7 Pro will be swapping the Samsung GM1 sensor with 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor. Rumors are rife that the Redmi Note 7 Pro would be fueled by the more powerful Snapdragon 675 chipset.

Various smartphone makers are expected to showcase their 5G-ready products at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech expo that will be held between Feb. 25 and Feb. 29. Even though Xiaomi has confirmed that it will be holding an event on the eve of MWC 2019, there is no confirmation yet on what devices it will be announcing. China Mobile Partner Conference has kicked off in Guangzhou, China. Xiaomi has demonstrated the Mi MIX 3 5G edition at the Chinese exhibition. Now that the 5G capabilities of the Mi MIX 3 has been publicly demoed, it appears that it will be one of the first 5G phones to go official in the coming year.

Xiaomi will be one of the companies to participate in the China Mobile 5G pre-commercial city field test that will take place in Q1 2019. At the exhibition today, Xiaomi demonstrated web browsing and video calling of the Mi MIX 3 5G variant to reveal what sort of 5G experience people can benefit from in the near future.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G edition is powered by Snapdragon 855 chipset that is equipped with X50 LTE modem that brings 5G capabilities to the phone. Combined with Xiaomi’s smart antenna switching technology, the Mi MIX 3 5G version can achieve up to 2 Gbps of download speeds. The smartphone reportedly features aviation polymer cooling technology for creating high-efficiency heat conduction system for enhancing the user experience. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G edition has a ceramic build. It I a slider phone with a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen that offers 93.4 percent screen-to-ratio. The slider of the smartphone is fitted with 24-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual selfie snapper. The back panel of the handset is fitted with a pair of 12-megapixel cameras. It includes 3,200mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 4.0. The smartphone has received MIUI 10 flavored Android 9 Pie OS update. There is a possibility that the Mi MIX 3 5G edition may include 10 GB of RAM and an inbuilt storage of 256 GB. The smartphone will go official in Q1 2019 and the first market to receive it could be Europe.

Last month, on 25th October, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi announced its next-generation Mi MIX series smartphone — the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. It is the first smartphone to feature a magnetic slider design with a full-screen display.

During the launch, Xiaomi confirmed that it will be releasing a 5G version of the Mi MIX 3 in the first quarter of 2019. With the launch of the 5G model of Mi MIX 3 nearing, details related to the device is now surfacing online.

In the latest development, Xiaomi president Lin Bin posted an image on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo which teases the upcoming Mi MIX 3 5G smartphone. On seeing the image closely, we can see the Android Pie logo in the top-left corner. In the top-right corner, there’s a 5G signal flag, suggesting that the phone is connected over a 5G network.

The development indicates that the Mi MIX 3 phone’s development is completed and is currently in the testing phase. If everything goes as per the plan, there’s a possibility that we could see the phone launching during CES 2019 in January or MWC 2019 in February.

Apart from Xiaomi, other manufacturers, including Samsung, OnePlus, and Huawei are working on a smartphone with 5G connectivity. OnePlus has also confirmed that it will be among the first to launch a 5G smartphone early next year.

The 5G variant of the Mi MIX 3 is expected to have the same specifications as the original model. The phone features a 6.39-inch AMOLED Full HD+ display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a 93.4 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor. It packs up to 10GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. The Mi MIX 3 is equipped with two magnetic components underneath the display that enables the sliding mechanism. It can be customized for different functions such as accessing the dual selfie camera, answer phone calls, among others.

As for the camera, there’s a dual camera setup on the back featuring a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 main sensor with f/1.8 aperture and another 12-megapixel Samsung S5k3M3+ secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture. On the front side too there’s a dual camera setup — a 24-megapixel Sony IMX576 primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor.

It is running on the latest MIUI 10 which is based Android 9 Pie operating system and also comes with the company’s Xiao AI voice assistant. The device is powered by a 3,200mAh battery that carries support for Quick Charge 4+ and 10W wireless charging.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi has scheduled a launch event in New York on 8th December. While it’s not yet known what the company is planning to unveil at the event, it is believed that Xiaomi could make an official entry in the US smartphone market with the launch of Mi MIX 3.
