Oppo Find X7, Find X7 Ultra launch date, configurations, color options officially confirmed

Oppo has officially confirmed that it will unveil the Find X7 series of smartphones at 2:30 pm (local time) on Jan. 8, 2024, in China. In addition, the Find X7 and Find X7 Ultra smartphones are now listed on Oppo China’s online store for reservations. The official listings have confirmed the configurations and color options of both smartphones well ahead of the official announcement.

Oppo Find X7

Reports have revealed that the Find X7 will come equipped with the Dimensity 9300 chipset. The official listing reveals that it will come in four configurations, such as 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, 16 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, 16 GB RAM + 512 GB storage, and 16 GB RAM + 1 TB storage.

The Find X7 will be available in four shades, such as Starry Sky Black, Sea and Sky, Desert Moon Silver, and Smokey Purple.

Oppo Find X7 Ultra

The Find X7 Ultra is expected to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. It will be available in three variants, such as 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, 16 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, and 16 GB RAM + 512 GB storage.

When it comes to color options, the Find X7 Ultra will come in choices such as Pine Shadow Ink, Sea and Sky, and Desert Moon Silver.

The Find X7 and Find X7 Ultra have a similar design, with the front featuring a punch-hole display with curved edges and a dual-tone back panel with a massive camera module. The Find X7 has a triple-camera unit, whereas the Find X7 Ultra has a quad-camera system. The Ultra variant will be the world’s first smartphone to feature dual periscope telephoto cameras. In addition, it will also be the first-ever phone to feature the one-inch Sony LYT-900 50-megapixel camera sensor as the primary snapper.

It is said that there will be a third device called the Oppo Find X7 Ultra Satellite Communication Version, which will come with support for two-way satellite communication. The rest of its specs will be identical to the Find X7 Ultra.

What’s being discussed is a dual-foundry setup. The absolute highest-end “Extreme” versions would probably stay with TSMC, while more standard configurations could shift over to Samsung. The main reason? TSMC is running out of room.

They’re aiming for roughly 60,000 wafers a month of 2nm by the end of 2026, but Apple has already locked up at least half of that for the A20 Pro and M6. Add in big customers like Nvidia and AMD locking down 3nm capacity through 2027, and suddenly a second supplier starts looking pretty attractive.

The sticking point, as usual, is money. Qualcomm wants better pricing. Samsung, fresh off wins with Tesla and Broadcom, isn’t in a rush to discount, especially for what would start as relatively modest volumes. They’ve already raised prices on older nodes by 10–15% in the past.

CEO Cristiano Amon’s recent meetings in South Korea suggest this isn’t just casual exploration. With advanced-node costs climbing, geopolitical risks hanging over the supply chain, and capacity getting tighter every year, spreading production across two foundries makes a lot of strategic sense.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit is coming up September 22–24 in Hawaii, where the 8 Elite Gen 6 is expected to make its debut. Whether they’ll say anything concrete about manufacturing partners remains to be seen. Neither company is commenting publicly right now. For the moment, it all comes down to whether they can agree on price and performance guarantees.

Caviar launches ultra-luxury iPhone 18 Pro collection with 24K gold, titanium & carbon fiber

Following Apple’s September 9 hardware event, luxury customization brand Caviar has announced its latest lineup of modified Apple devices: the Contrast Edition iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

Xiaomi launches Mijia Ceiling Light C L90 and D40 with up to 8400lm full-spectrum light, adjustable color temp

Xiaomi has opened crowdfunding for a new range of affordable full-spectrum smart ceiling lights aimed at everyday home use.

The Mijia Ceiling Light C series is designed to bring high-quality, eye-friendly lighting and smart controls to both larger living rooms and smaller bedrooms. It’s available right now on Xiaomi’s Youpin platform and includes two models.

The L90 is meant for living rooms of about 25–45 square meters and is priced at 539 yuan (~€69). The more compact D40 is aimed at bedrooms under 15 square meters and starts at 269 yuan (~€34).

Both have a simple upright design with a slim, integrated body. The L90 measures 900 × 600 × 85 mm, while the D40 is a circular light with a 400 mm diameter and 75 mm thickness. Matte finishes on the lamp bodies help cut down on gloss and glare when the lights are on.

On the performance side, the L90 draws 108 W and puts out 8400 lumens, while the D40 uses 30 W for 2500 lumens. Both use custom full-spectrum LEDs that hit a colour rendering index of Ra95 and let you adjust the colour temperature continuously from 2700K to 5700K. Galaxy S26 Ultra may see a price hike soon, following Apple’s move with iPhone 17

The Galaxy S26 series hit the market roughly seven months back. According to reports, Samsung is reviewing possible price adjustments for phones that are already on sale, though nothing has been finalized and the company hasn’t said how much any increase might be.

In South Korea, local reports point to a possible uniform hike of around 149,600 won (about $110–$111) per model that could kick in from October 1 if approved.

That would push the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra to higher retail prices in that market. Samsung has reportedly confirmed it’s internally reviewing pricing because of rising component costs, but stressed that no decision has been made yet.

And this isn’t new. At its September 9, 2026 launch event, Apple discontinued the iPhone 17 Pro models and raised the prices of the remaining ones: the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, 17e, and iPhone 16. The new iPhone 18 Pro models are also $100 more expensive than their predecessors. The Galaxy S27 series was previously expected to launch at higher prices than the current generation as well.

The main reason, as you may already know, is the sharp jump in memory chip prices. Smartphone memory costs rose by more than 80% in the second quarter compared with the previous one, and in some assessments were roughly 300% higher than the same period a year earlier.

Memory has now become the single most expensive part of building a smartphone, even more than the processor. Samsung’s mobile division posted an operating loss of about 700 billion won in the second quarter and paid roughly 211% more for mobile memory in the first half of the year than it did the year before.

Normally, phone makers wait for a new launch to pass higher costs on to customers. But the current memory surge has most smartphone brands considering significant price changes on existing models as well.

Whether Samsung actually goes ahead with a hike, and in which countries beyond South Korea, is still up in the air. For now, the company is just weighing whether to keep absorbing the higher costs or adjust the retail prices on the current flagships following its biggest competitor.

Vivo X500 Pro Max and Oppo Find X10 Pro Max officially confirmed with new Dimensity 9600 Pro

Vivo and Oppo have already confirmed phones powered by MediaTek’s newly launched flagship chip. Shortly after the Dimensity 9600 Pro went official, both companies announced that their upcoming flagship camera phones will use the chip.

Vivo X500 Pro Max

Vivo shared a joint poster with MediaTek that highlights some of the work the two companies did together. The Dimensity 9600 Pro uses a dual super-large-core CPU design, while Vivo also worked with MediaTek on chip-level AP Demura 2.0 correction. Vivo says this helps reduce uneven brightness across the display at the chip level. The feature is linked to the 2K display already confirmed for the Vivo X500 Pro Max.

The chip also supports AP-level multi-frame motion smear compensation, which is designed to reduce blur when shooting fast-moving subjects.

Vivo X500 Pro Max Dimensity 9600 Pro

The X500 series also gets professional Log video support built into the chip, allowing 4K video at 120fps with 10-bit Log output directly from the phone. No external recorder is required.

Vivo will also combine the Dimensity 9600 Pro with its own Blueprint imaging chip. The company says this setup enables 4K Dolby Vision portrait video, which it describes as an industry first. 

Vivo is also introducing XDZ, a new high-magnification video upscaling technology. The company says the X500 Pro series will be the first phones globally to use the Dimensity 9600 Pro. That lead will last only briefly, however, as the phones launch on September 21.

As for Oppo, the Find X10 Pro Max will also use the 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro, but Oppo is adding its own software features around the chip.

The phone has a new-generation Tide Engine that can dynamically move resources between high-frame-rate gaming and on-device AI tasks. Oppo is also introducing its Falcon Scheduler for handling demanding camera features and heavy performance loads at the same time.

Oppo says this allows the Find X10 Pro Max to record 4K video at 60fps for extended periods while also supporting up to eight hours of full-frame-rate gaming in demanding titles.

The Find X10 Pro Max also comes with an 8,000mAh Glacier Battery with an energy density of 867Wh/L. It uses Oppo’s self-developed spherical silicon-carbon technology, along with the company’s battery health algorithms and charging technology.

Oppo says the battery is designed to maintain good health for up to five years, helping reduce the long-term degradation that can affect large-capacity batteries.

The two phones are launching just a day apart. The Vivo X500 series arrives on September 21, followed by the Oppo Find X10 lineup on September 22.

Citizen launches 1970s-inspired gold-tone Zenshin watch with Super Titanium build

Citizen has just released a new watch in the US market: the AW0132-55P, which is part of its Zenshin collection. It is available now on the company’s website for $695. The watch falls into the popular category of integrated bracelet sports watches, but it swaps out the usual stainless steel for titanium and runs on solar power.

Design Details

The watch features a lightweight titanium construction, with both the 39mm case and matching bracelet made from Citizen’s Super Titanium. The company uses its Duratect Amber Yellow surface treatment to give the watch its distinctive gold-tone appearance.

This creates the look of a traditional, heavier gold-tone timepiece while keeping the overall weight considerably lower thanks to the titanium base. The material is also highly resistant to scratches, helping the watch maintain its finish over time.

The case measures 39mm across, a moderate size that fits a wide variety of wrists, and the integrated bracelet secures with a standard fold-over clasp with push buttons. To protect the face, Citizen went with a sapphire crystal, which is the standard expectation for scratch prevention in this price range.

On the dial, the watch features a textured gold-tone surface bordered by a black minute track. The hands and hour markers are silver-tone and include luminous material so you can read the time in the dark. There is also a standard day and date window at the 3 o’clock position. The layout is straightforward and leans into the retro 1970s aesthetic that usually accompanies this specific case shape.

Inside, the watch is powered by Citizen’s Calibre J800 Eco-Drive movement. Instead of using a traditional mechanical setup or a standard replaceable quartz battery, the Eco-Drive system runs on light.

It absorbs both natural and artificial light through the dial to continuously charge the internal cell, meaning you don’t have to take it to a jeweler for battery replacements. For everyday wear, the watch is also rated for 100 meters of water resistance, which is plenty for swimming or showering.

MediaTek Dimensity 9600M is basically a Dimensity 9500 with a few upgrades

The Dimensity 9600 Pro is no doubt the star of the show at MediaTek’s launch event today, but the company also launched another interesting chip, the Dimensity 9600M.

The new chip is heading to the standard Vivo X500, while the Pro and Pro Max models get the more powerful 9600 Pro. That makes the 9600M the more affordable option in the new flagship lineup, and at first glance, it looks like a new chip for MediaTek’s 2026 phones.

The silicon has an all-large-core CPU, a flagship GPU with neural network rendering, and a dual NPU setup. MediaTek even markets it as built on Dimensity 9600 Pro platform technologies, inheriting that chip’s graphics architecture. But the story looks different once you put MediaTek’s own spec sheets for the two chips side by side.

1. Dimensity 9600M is largely a refreshed Dimensity 9500

The Dimensity 9600M is essentially the Dimensity 9500 with a few small changes. It uses the same TSMC 3nm N3P process, and its performance is on par with last year’s chip, as most of what you get here isn’t brand new. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. 

The CPU setup includes one C1-Ultra core running at 4.21GHz with 2MB of L2 cache, three C1-Premium cores at 3.5GHz with 1MB of L2 cache each, and four C1-Pro cores at 2.7GHz with 512KB each. There’s also 16MB of L3 cache and 10MB of system cache — the exact same configuration as the Dimensity 9500.

The GPU follows the same pattern. Both chips use the Arm Mali-G1 Ultra MC12, and MediaTek’s spec sheet lists it identically for both. The NPU duties fall to the same APU 990 on both chips, including the compute-in-memory efficiency core MediaTek introduced with the 9500. And no changes in memory and storage either — LPDDR5X at 10667MHz and 4-lane UFS 4.1, respectively. 

Camera hardware tells the same story. The spec sheet caps out at a 320MP sensor and 8K60, 4K120 with EIS, and 4K60 cinematic video capture on both chips, matching the Imagiq-based imaging pipeline from the 9500.

2. What’s actually new

There are still a few changes on the Dimensity 9600M. MediaTek has upgraded its Dimensity Scheduling Engine to version 3.0, compared with the second-generation version on the Dimensity 9500. The newer scheduler should better manage CPU, GPU, and memory resources.

Gaming is another area where MediaTek is highlighting an improvement. The 9600M can reach frame rates of up to 185fps with neural network rendering. However, the actual frame interpolation hardware remains the same. It still uses MediaTek’s MRFC 3.0. 

The bigger changes come on the software side. The NPU now supports Gemini Nano 4 and Qwen 3.5 Omni 4B, while a new camera agent can provide photography suggestions based on what you’re shooting.

So while MediaTek gives the Dimensity 9600M a place in its newer 9600 series, the underlying hardware is still very close to the Dimensity 9500. The main changes are the newer scheduling system, small clock-speed increases, and some added AI features rather than a major hardware upgrade.

Xiaomi has just launched two phones with the Xring O3 chip, and will soon be in Gizmochina’s office. For the time being, we used benchmark numbers posted by a Chinese reviewer, Xiaobi’s Tech. For the Dimensity 9500, tests were conducted on the Vivo X300 Pro.

In the CPU test on Geekbench v6, the Xring O3-powered Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max has scored 3,699 points in the single-core test, which is about 7% higher than the Dimensity 9500-powered Vivo X300 Pro (3,452 points. The gap widens significantly in the multi-core testing.

The Xring O3 pulls off 14,350 points in the multi-core test, while the Dimensity 9500 is just above 10,000 points. That massive 41% difference suggests a huge performance advantage for Xring O3 in tasks that require multiple cores to work together.

Xring O3 vs Dimensity 9500: Key differences that matter

Both the Xring O3 and Dimensity 9500 feature C1-series CPU cores, but in different configurations. The Xring O3 has a 10-core CPU, featuring two C1-Ultra cores, four C1-Premium cores, and four C1-Pro cores.

In contrast, the Dimensity 9500 features two fewer CPU cores. The 8-core setup includes one C1-Ultra core, three C1-Premium cores, and four C1-Pro cores.

An additional C1-Ultra large core in Xring O3 offers a considerable performance advantage, further boosted with an additional C1-Premium core. The CPU cores also run at higher clock speeds than those in Dimensity 9500.

The Xring O3 also features a newer-generation, more powerful 16-core Mali-G2 Ultra NX GPU, compared to the 12-core Mali-G1 Ultra on the Dimensity 9500. All 12 cores in the Dimensity 9500 are standard cores, while the Xring O3 features 8 dedicated “NX” neural network units that allow games to render at a low internal resolution and use a trained neural network to upscale the image and generate extra frames.

The LPDDR6 support on the Xring O3 greatly improves graphics performance by delivering over 30% higher peak memory bandwidth than LPDDR5 on the Dimensity 9500. Furthermore, Xiaomi’s chip can perform NPU operations at twice the speed of the Dimensity 9500.

MediaTek announces Dimensity 9600 Pro built on 2nm process and ARM’s C2 cores

MediaTek’s first 2nm chip is finally here. The company today unveiled the Dimensity 9600 Pro built on TSMC’s 2nm process and ARM’s new C-cores. The mobile silicon uses the 2+3+3 CPU layout and is home to more than 33 billion transistors. 

Moving from 3nm to 2nm gives a 14% performance bump and a 23% cut in power consumption at the chip level. That’s before you even get into the CPU architecture changes.

MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro launched

The Dimensity 9600 Pro uses a fourth-generation all-big-core setup of two C2-Ultra super-big cores clocked at 4.55GHz with 2MB of L2 cache each, three C2 Pro big cores at 4.35GHz with 1MB of L2, and three more C2 Pro cores at 3.10GHz with 512KB of L2. Add in 16MB of L3 cache, and you get 34.5MB of total cache across the chip — MediaTek says that’s 21% more L2 cache than the Dimensity 9500, which should help cut down on memory access delays when the chip is under heavy load.

The performance numbers back up the architecture change. MediaTek claims single-core CPU performance improvement by 17% and multi-core by 15% over the Dimensity 9500. As for power consumption, the ultra-large cores use 37% less power, and multi-core power consumption is reduced by 61% at matching peak performance. 

Dimensity 9600 Pro Geekbench scores

In figures, that translates to the Dimensity 9600 Pro scoring 4,276 points in single-core and 12,650 in multi-core tests at Geekbench 6.4. For reference, the Dimensity 9500 scored 3,666 and 11,014 in the same tests, so the generational jump tracks with MediaTek’s own 17%/15% claims.

Storage and memory move to the next generation

The Dimensity 9600 Pro is the first mobile chip to support LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage. LPDDR6 delivers 33% higher performance than LPDDR5X, and UFS 5.0 doubles the sequential read and write speeds you’d get from dual-channel UFS 4.0.

MediaTek paired the CPU upgrades with a new GPU, the G2-Ultra NX, which the company says delivers 27% higher peak performance than the previous generation while cutting power draw by 24% at matching peak output. Ray tracing performance has climbed by 18%, and the chip can now push game frame rates as high as 185fps.

On the imaging side is the Imagiq 1290 ISP that can handle 4K recording at 240fps for slow-motion capture, and built-in H.266 hardware decoding cuts power consumption by 23% compared to relying on software decoding alone. 

AI performance is the centerpiece

MediaTek built the Dimensity 9600 Pro around what it calls an AI-native architecture, and the numbers reflect that focus. The chip runs a dual NPU setup: a 10th-generation high-performance NPU 1090 alongside a second-generation low-power NPU for always-on sensing tasks. The high-performance NPU’s prefill performance rises 51% over the previous generation, while the low-power NPU cuts its own power consumption by 40%.

Dimensity 9600 Pro NPU

The Generative AI Engine 3.0 doubles INT4 computing power compared to its predecessor, which lets the chip run mixture-of-experts models with up to 30 billion parameters entirely on-device, without leaning on cloud processing. 

Tying it together is what MediaTek calls the Tianji Intelligent Computing Fusion Architecture. It manages scheduling across the CPU, NPU, and memory as one system, so large AI models and regular apps can run at the same time without one starving the other of resources. MediaTek claims this keeps power draw down even as output speed holds steady.

According to an industry report from ETNews, the company plans to roll out its latest OLED tech across the entire Galaxy S27 series, with the biggest jumps reserved for the higher-end models. The phones are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2027.

The Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will be the first Samsung smartphones to use the new M16 OLED material set. That same material is already showing up in Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro series and the iQOO 16, so it makes sense that Samsung is bringing it to its own top models.

M16 should deliver higher peak brightness, better power efficiency, improved colour accuracy, and a longer panel lifespan than previous generations. Samsung is also reportedly adding Color Filter on Encapsulation (COE) technology, which boosts brightness and efficiency by ditching the traditional polarizer, plus Privacy Display features on the Pro and Ultra. Those extras should help the premium models stand out more clearly from the rest of the lineup.

The regular Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus aren’t being left behind completely. Reports say they’ll move from the M13 material used in recent years to M14 panels, the first material-set change for the base models in quite a while. All four phones in the series are expected to use Samsung Display panels. Screen sizes are said to range from about 6.27 inches on the standard model up to 6.89 inches on the Ultra, with the Plus and Pro sitting in between.

If these plans stick, Samsung will refresh OLED technology across the whole flagship family instead of limiting the big leap to just the most expensive models. That could make the entire lineup more competitive while still giving the Pro and Ultra clearer advantages in display quality, efficiency, and features like privacy viewing.

Samsung Display has already shown off high-brightness M16 panels in other devices, with efficiency gains of up to 30% over older generations. Exactly how those numbers will be tuned for the Galaxy S27 phones remains to be seen.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 shows up again in benchmark, and the numbers still don’t add up

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 has shown up again in Geekbench, this time inside the upcoming iQOO Pad Ultra. And the results are once again lower than what you might expect from Qualcomm’s next flagship chip.

A Vivo tablet with the model number iPA2691 has appeared on Geekbench 7. The same model number was previously spotted in China’s SRRC certification database, which linked it to the iQOO Pad Ultra.

Now, Geekbench confirms that the tablet will be powered by the SM8975 processor, which is said to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The chip is expected to use a 2nm process and has an eight-core CPU setup in this listing. It includes three cores clocked at 3.74GHz, three at 4.03GHz, and two high-performance cores reaching 5.01GHz. Graphics are handled by an Adreno 850 GPU.

The tested tablet has 16GB of RAM and runs Android 17.

iQOO Pad Ultra Geekbench scores don’t reflect peak performance

As for the scores, the iQOO Pad Ultra managed 1,512 points in the single-core test and 6,770 points in the multi-core test. These numbers are much lower than even last-gen processors. But there is an important detail here. 

These are pre-release devices, so unfinished software, firmware, and thermal limits could all affect the results. Retail units could perform quite differently once the software and cooling systems are finalized.

iQOO Pad Ultra teaser

The Pad Ultra’s cooling setup could also help. iQOO has already confirmed that the tablet will have a built-in cooling fan capable of reaching up to 14,500rpm. The fan is housed in a compact 30 x 30 x 3.5mm module.

The device is set to launch in China in late September.

Huawei Mate XT2 import prices climb past €5,000, far above Apple’s iPhone Duo

Huawei’s newest tri-fold phone is out in China, and the early import prices already look eye-wateringly expensive next to Apple’s new foldable.

The Mate XT2 is a clear design change from Huawei’s earlier Z-shaped tri-folds that folded both inward and outward. This one uses a U-shaped (or G-shaped) mechanism that folds twice inward, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold. You get a roughly 6.5″ outer display that opens up to a 10.2″ inner screen.

In China, pricing starts at 19,999 yuan (about €2,560 / $2,980) for the 16GB/256GB model and goes up to 24,999 yuan (around €3,200 / $3,725) for a 1TB version with a privacy display. Higher configs, including a 2TB model with stylus, push close to 30,000 yuan.

An official launch outside China looks very unlikely, so anyone interested will have to import. Retailers like Trinity Electronics in Hong Kong and AverageDad (UAE/UK) are already listing units. A 12/256GB model starts around €3,626 ($4,207) at Trinity and €3,685 ($4,484, reportedly including taxes) at AverageDad. The 512GB version sits near €3,845–€3,865, while 1TB models (with and without the privacy display) range from roughly €4,065 to over €5,000 depending on the seller and config. Neither is currently listing the top 2TB version. Colours available are black, white, and purple.

Those import numbers put the Mate XT2 well above Apple’s iPhone Duo, which starts at $1,999 in the US and about €2,300 in Germany. Even Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold launched at $2,899 before taxes in the US, still noticeably cheaper than the Huawei grey-market prices.

There are practical hurdles on top of the high cost. There’s no eSIM, no Android Auto or Wear OS support, and language options may be limited. Like other recent Huawei phones, Google Mobile Services are missing, so you’ll need workarounds such as microG if you want Play Store access. Buyers also have to accept the usual grey-market risks around warranty and support.

Vivo S2 FE and V80 India launch looks imminent as both pass BIS certification

Vivo is gearing up to launch a couple of new phones in India. Recently, the Vivo X Fold 6 foldable phone was spotted in the database of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Now, two more upcoming Vivo phones have surfaced in BIS’ database, indicating that these may hit the Indian market soon.

As can be seen above, two Vivo smartphones bearing the model numbers V2640 and V2648 have been approved by the BIS authority. The previously seen Bluetooth SIG certification confirmed that the V2640 will be released in the market with the Vivo S2 FE moniker.

On the other hand, the model number V2648 belongs to the Vivo V80. This has already been confirmed through recent certifications such as NBTC (Thailand), SIRIM (Malaysia), and SDPPI (Indonesia). In all likelihood, the S2 FE and V80 may be released in October.

Speculations are rife that the Vivo S2 FE could be a rebranded version of the Vivo V80 Lite 5G, which debuted with a 10,000mAh battery in Malaysia. This device is expected to pack other specifications, such as a 6.84-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED screen, a Dimensity 7300e chipset, a 50-megapixel rear camera, a 32-megapixel camera, and 44W fast charging support.

The Vivo V80 could be India’s first phone to run on OriginOS 7-based Android 17. It could be a creator-focused phone with several AI-driven improvements to photography features. It is also expected to feature a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, 10x portrait zoom support, and 4K cinematic video recording. It is rumored to house a 7,200mAh battery, making it the largest in the V-series.

Xiaomi launches expensive automatic coffee maker with whole-bean brewing and automated milk frothing

Xiaomi has announced a new coffee machine in China, but this one skips capsules completely. The Mijia Smart Italian Semi-Automatic Coffee Maker Pro costs 4,999 yuan (around $745) and is designed for people who want more control over their coffee. 

Unlike Xiaomi’s more affordable capsule coffee machines, this model works with whole coffee beans and handles grinding, dosing, extraction, and milk frothing in one machine. It was developed for Xiaomi by Ningbo Kunling Technology.

The machine has a built-in grinder that can measure coffee grounds down to 0.1 grams, so there’s no need to measure the beans separately with a kitchen scale. Xiaomi has also added a plasma-based anti-static system to the grinder, which is designed to reduce static and prevent coffee grounds from sticking together or making a mess around the hopper.

For brewing, the machine uses two separate water pumps and heating blocks. This allows it to extract coffee and steam milk without having to wait for one process to finish first. Xiaomi has also separated the hot and cold water paths, letting the machine handle hot espresso and cold extraction without one affecting the temperature of the other.

Five NTC temperature sensors monitor different parts of the brewing system, including the brew head. The data is used by a PID temperature control system to keep the water within the target temperature range during extraction.

The machine uses an imported ULKA pump, which is also found in Xiaomi’s portable coffee machine. It can reach up to 19 bar of pressure, and Xiaomi says it can make more than 10 cups continuously without a noticeable drop in performance.

Automated milk frothing

Milk preparation is also automated. You can select cow’s milk or different types of plant-based milk, and the machine adjusts the frothing process to produce the desired texture. For users who want more control, there are nine adjustable settings covering things such as grind size and milk temperature.

The Xiaomi Home app also includes hundreds of preset coffee recipes, so users can follow existing recipes instead of adjusting everything manually.

For beginners, Xiaomi has added a guided “first cup” tutorial in the app. It walks users through grinding, tamping, extraction, milk frothing, and cleaning step by step.

The Mijia Smart Italian Semi-Automatic Coffee Maker Pro is currently available in China for 4,999 yuan (around $745). Xiaomi has not announced plans to launch the machine in other markets yet.

iQOO 16 is launching on September 29, design and color variants officially confirmed

After teasing the arrival of its next flagship phone for the past few days in China, iQOO has finally revealed its launch date. The iQOO 16 will be officially unveiled on September 29 at 7pm local time in China, and the company says sales will begin immediately after the launch event.  Here’s a look at what to expect from this performance-focused offering.

Despite being positioned as the standard model, iQOO says the iQOO 16 will deliver hardware and features that can rival higher-end Pro Max models.

The design is expected to follow a futuristic theme, with the “Tomorrow’s Porthole” design language shaping the camera area. The three rear cameras are linked visually through a mechanical-style structure inspired by a spacecraft window.

The Light Chaser color variant of the device will flaunt a holographic rear panel. Its laser holographic imaging technology uses multiple manufacturing processes to create changing red and blue light effects as the viewing angle shifts. It will also arrive in Legend and Racing Track color variants.

The display could be one of the phone’s biggest highlights. iQOO has confirmed that the iQOO 16 will be the first smartphone to feature a 2K resolution panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, developed jointly with Samsung Display.

The panel uses Samsung Display’s latest M16 organic light-emitting material and LEAD 2.0 technology without a traditional polarizer. According to the company, this approach can reduce power consumption by around 30% while retaining the high resolution and refresh rate.

The 6.85-inch screen is also expected to support up to 2,800 nits of global peak brightness, 10,000 nits locally and up to 500Hz multi-touch sampling. Other display technologies include DC dimming, up to 3,300Hz PWM dimming and gaming glare protection.

Under the hood, the iQOO 16 is expected to use Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon flagship platform alongside iQOO’s Q4 gaming chip. The phone is also tipped to receive upgraded vibration motors and speakers for a more immersive gaming experience.

The iQOO 16 is likely to draw power from an 8,400mAh battery with support 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The rear camera setup is expected to include a 50-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera.

Storage options are tipped to include 12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, 16GB+512GB, and 16GB+1TB configurations. It will come preloaded with OriginOS 7-based Android 17 and will carry IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.

Xiaomi confirms Xiaomi 18 Pro series launch with a new rear screen

Xiaomi today officially confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will launch this month in China. In a teaser shared on Weibo, the company showed the rear display of the phone with the word “Generating” in the center. 

This could suggest that the rear screen will support AI-generated content directly on the phone, rather than being limited to wallpapers, widgets, or simple shortcuts. The company further says that more details are coming tomorrow. 

Xiaomi has some numbers to back up its decision to keep developing the rear screen feature. According to the company, users interacted with app cards on last year’s rear screen more than 4 million times per day, while more than 3.5 million wallpapers were added to the display every day.

The rear screen on the Xiaomi 17 Pro also gained more features after launch, including live wallpapers and interactive tools. The Xiaomi 18 Pro appears to be building on that idea rather than treating the rear display as a simple design feature.

Xiaomi 18 Pro keeps a familiar design

Nonetheless, the official teaser confirms the phone has a horizontal camera module with a Leica triple-camera setup. The rear display will cover most of the camera module, giving the Xiaomi 18 Pro a look that’s similar to its predecessor.

According to DCS, Xiaomi has made a few smaller changes to the design. The bezels around the rear display could be slightly thinner, while the front punch-hole camera may move to a different position. The phone is also said to feature a new physical button on the frame.

Earlier leaks also claimed that the rear screen could get larger and add a privacy mode, similar to the privacy display technology Samsung shipped with the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

With Xiaomi already confirming a launch this month and the rear screen now being teased, more details about the Xiaomi 18 Pro series should arrive soon.
