Some Apple Vision Pro Users Report Overnight Cracks on Their Headsets

Recently, a small number of Apple Vision Pro users have encountered a puzzling issue where the glass on their devices cracked overnight, without any apparent cause. These incidents, shared by users on Reddit, reveal a surprising development for Apple’s high-tech headset. Some of the photos posted showcase a clean split across the glass, particularly around the nose bridge area, stirring conversations about the durability of these devices.

This could be a coincidence or a major manufacturing flaw

The cases, though few, have caught the attention of tech enthusiasts and raised questions about potential manufacturing flaws. One particular user highlighted that when they reached out to Apple regarding the damage, they were informed about a hefty $800 repair cost, which could be reduced to a $300 deductible under AppleCare.

This situation presents a dual-edged sword for Apple. On one hand, the number of reports is minuscule compared to the estimated 200,000 units sold, suggesting that this might not be a widespread issue. On the other hand, it underscores the importance of robust quality control and the need for a fair and accommodating customer service response to unforeseen problems.

It’s crucial to approach such reports with a balanced perspective, recognizing the significance of each complaint while also considering the overall reliability of the product based on the vast majority of user experiences. For now, these reports serve as a reminder of the complexities and challenges in manufacturing cutting-edge technology. As more information comes to light, it will be interesting to see how Apple addresses these concerns and whether any steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

China Launches An Experimental Communication Satellite, Marking its 9th Launch This Year

On February 23, 2024, China marked another achievement in space exploration by launching an experimental communication satellite. This event highlights China’s ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of what’s possible above Earth’s atmosphere.

The satellite will test out ways of high-speed communication from space

The launch involved the Long March-5 Y7 rocket, lifting off from Hainan’s Wenchang Space Launch Center. The mission’s star, the Communication Technology Demonstrator 11 satellite, was sent into orbit with a clear task: to test out new ways of doing high-speed communications across multiple bands from space.

China Launch

This wasn’t just any launch. It was China’s ninth this year, showcasing the country’s busy schedule in space activities. The mission also added another successful chapter to the Long March rocket family’s history, now counting 509 flights.

The brains behind the rocket, the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, and the satellite, the China Academy of Space Technology, are both looking into the future. They’re exploring how to improve connections between us down here and the vast expanse of space.

Beyond this launch, China’s space agenda is ambitious. Plans include sending the Chang’e 6 probe to the moon’s far side to collect and return samples to Earth, showing a keen interest in unlocking the moon’s mysteries.

Every Long March-5 rocket, fueled with over 750 metric tons of propellant, is a testament to China’s technological capabilities in space. It’s not just about reaching higher and further but doing so with an eye on practical applications, like better communication technologies that could change how we connect across the globe.

OnePlus 12 Survives Durability Test Without Any Catastrophic Damage Unlike Its Predecessors

It’s been a month since OnePlus bought its latest number series flagship to the global markets. The OnePlus 12 (review) packs significant upgrades compared to its predecessor. It includes a periscope camera, wireless charging, aqua touch technology, and more. Now, the flagship phone has undergone JerryRigEverything’s intense durability test. This one is particularly worth checking out since OnePlus had a poor track record with the structural integrity of the OnePlus 10 Pro, 10T, and even the 11.

OnePlus 12 comes out unscathed in durability test

The OnePlus 12 features the company’s Aqua Touch technology making it usable with wet hands. Those who watch Zack’s durability tests might be familiar with most parts. However, this time around, the YouTuber first starts testing the OnePlus 12’s usability by spraying two splashes of water on the screen. We also get the iPhone 15 Pro and the Galaxy S24 Ultra in comparison. Zack goes on to type a sentence using every letter of the alphabet on all three devices. He is using Swipe Text and normal predictive suggestions. The Aqua Touch technology did a pretty good job on the OnePlus 12. Even the Galaxy S24 Ultra did well.

However, the iPhone 15 Pro completely failed the wet touch test. The YouTuber was unable to write a word with the swipe gesture. Additionally, the phone registered incorrect inputs by selecting H instead of delete. This serves as a reminder to the iPhone 15 Pro users (and even other iPhone users perhaps) that it is unusable in wet conditions.

Zack proceeds to the scratch test where he begins scratching the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 shielded display on the OnePlus 12. As usual, it gets scratched at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7. The phone’s aluminum frame gets scratched in the scrape test but not the textured glass back. The camera sensors are also coated with a thick glass so users don’t have to worry about the lens getting dirty. However, the YouTuber adds that one accidental hit could have the potential of destroying all cameras at once. The optical fingerprint scanner works flawlessly after getting abused.

Finally, the most stressful part of the durability test – Zack tries bending the OnePlus 12 from the back side and a slight flex is noticeable. However, from the front side, the device bends near the camera module and antennas. Thankfully, the device survives the bend test without any catastrophic damage, unlike its predecessors.

OnePlus Ace 3 Genshin Impact Edition will have a unique “optical projection” feature

OnePlus is set to unveil a special edition of the OnePlus Ace 3 tailored specifically for fans of the popular game Genshin Impact.

While the phone’s key specifications will likely mirror those of the standard model, this limited edition smartphone will introduce a unique feature called “optical projection.”

If you’re wondering, no, it’s not about projecting stuff from your phone like the good ol’ Samsung Galaxy Beam. OnePlus is doing something unique here.

They’re using a special etching process on the phone’s top surface so you can project the Keqing character logo onto surfaces using light reflection.

For those unaware, Keqing is a playable Electro character in Genshin Impact. It’s a one-of-a-kind addition that adds a distinctive touch to the phone’s customization.

Similarly, the design of the OnePlus Ace 3 Genshin Impact edition will be inspired by the character Keqing. It will likely have a purple color scheme and might include a butterfly texture pattern on the back.

Fans can also expect a Keqing-themed system interface. OnePlus’s signature logo and camera layout should remain the same.

As with the standard OnePlus Ace 3, the Genshin Impact edition will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. This is a flagship-tier SoC that should deliver a smooth, near full-frame gaming experience for Genshin Impact players.

OnePlus 12R Ace 3 Genshin Impact Edition

OnePlus has a proven track record with customized phones.  From the cyberpunk-themed OnePlus 8T to the Hutao-inspired OnePlus Ace Pro Genshin Impact edition, the company has well-executed to include elements from popular games into its designs.

For global users, there’s good news as well — the phone will be launched under the name OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition on the same day as its Chinese counterpart, February 28th.

Nothing Phone (2a) renders

The front of the Nothing Phone (2a) features a flat display with a punch-hole design and rounded corners. On the back, there is a horizontal dual-camera system and an LED flash. The round camera island is surrounded by three Glyph LEDs.

The visible round coil on the Nothing Phone (1) and Phone (2) offers support for wireless charging. Its absence on the Phone (2a) suggests that it will lack support for wireless charging. The volume buttons and the power key are available on the right edge of the Phone (2a). On the white variant, these buttons are available in black.

So far, the company has officially confirmed that the Phone (2a) has the Dimensity 7200 Pro chip, 12 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of virtual RAM. Reports have claimed that the device will have a 6.7-inch AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz display and pack a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

For photography, the Phone (2a) may feature a 32-megapixel front camera, and a dual 50-megapixel camera system on the back. It may come with other features, such as Android 14, Nothing OS 2.5.2, and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. In France, it is expected to arrive in 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB options. The models are likely to be priced at 349 euros and 399 euros, respectively.
