Portugal takes firm stance on Huawei, excludes equipment from 5G networks amid legal battle

Portugal’s telecoms watchdog, ANACOM, joins forces with major operators to enforce a high-level resolution aimed at excluding Huawei Technologies’ equipment from its burgeoning 5G mobile networks. This move comes amidst legal objections from the Chinese tech giant, marking a substantial setback in Huawei’s ambitions to play a pivotal role in Portugal’s 5G market.

ANACOM, the National Communications Authority of Portugal, has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing decisions related to security, aligning not only with national objectives but also adhering to European guidelines. This cooperative effort with telecom operators, including Altice, NOS, and Vodafone, underscores Portugal’s dedication to bolstering the security of its 5G networks.

Portugal’s Consultative Council for Strategic Cybersecurity (CSSC), which advises the Prime Minister, adopted a resolution in May that refrained from explicitly mentioning Huawei but was widely perceived as a setback to Huawei’s plans. The resolution, founded on a rigorous and independent security assessment in line with European Union guidelines, has prompted Portugal’s major operators to eschew Huawei equipment in their 5G core networks.

Huawei, a global leader in telecom equipment manufacturing, responded to these developments by filing a lawsuit in a Lisbon court at the end of August, seeking legal protection for its legitimate interests. The legal dispute adds another layer of complexity to the evolving situation.

The CSSC’s resolution, while not directly targeting Chinese suppliers, reflects growing concerns in Europe and the United States regarding potential security compromises associated with Chinese involvement in critical infrastructure. Both Beijing and Huawei vehemently deny these allegations, but European and American apprehensions persist.

Mario Campolargo, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Digitalization and chair of the CSSC, has emphasized the meticulous and coordinated approach taken by the government and ANACOM in addressing these security concerns. The close collaboration between these entities underscores their shared commitment to safeguarding Portugal’s telecommunications infrastructure.

ANACOM’s President, Joao Cadete de Matos, expressed confidence in the successful execution of the resolution and stressed the need to await the development of the Huawei lawsuit. This ongoing legal battle further highlights the intricate nature of the situation and its potential implications for Huawei’s presence in Portugal’s telecom sector.

The other choice is to become the competitor’s strongest rival. Zhao Ming said that this is what Honor’s employees are most excited about. He also said that Honor is looking forward to competing with Huawei, which will help to drive innovation in the industry.

Ming also said that Honor invests more than 10% of its revenue in research and development. This investment has helped Honor to develop its own unique technologies, such as its “Eye Protector” display and its “Shark” charging technology. Zhao Ming said that he hopes that former Huawei employees will be proud of Honor’s success. He said that Honor’s goal is to be Huawei’s strongest competitor, and that this is the best way to honor the company’s past relationship with Huawei.

Galaxy S23 FE listed on Google Play Console with Snapdragon & Exynos chips

Samsung seems ready to launch its third fan edition smartphone— the Galaxy S23 FE. The handset has been leaking a lot recently and we have also seen its marketing material. Most specifications of the S23 FE have already been revealed through leaks. However, Samsung is still keeping quite about the handset’s launch. While we wait, the Galaxy S23 FE has been spotted on Google Play Console with Snapdragon and Exynos chips. The listing also reveals key specifications of the device.

The Galaxy S23 FE is reportedly coming in two flavors— one with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and the other with Samsung’s own Exynos 2200 SoC. Google Play Console now confirms these reports, listing the S23 FE in Samsung r11q and Samsung r11s variants. The r11q model is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC with Adreno 730 GPU, while the r11s model has the Exynos 2200 chipset. Other than the CPU and GPU, all the other specs are the same for both variants.

The listing also reveals the Galaxy S23 FE will come with at least 8GB of RAM and run Android 13 on the software front. We also see the renders of the smartphone, which match recent leaks. As per previous reports, the handset sports a 6.3-inch AMOLED display and a 10MP selfie shooter on the front, while the rear features a 50MP triple camera setup.

A 4,500mAh battery pack should power this device which will support 25W charging. Apart from Google Play Console, the Galaxy S23 FE has also surfaced on other certification platforms like NBTC, TDRA, Bluetooth SIG, BIS, and more.

iFixit Claims iPhone 14 Now Harder to Repair Than Before!

Apple products do not have a great track record when it comes to repairability. For example, iPhones are hard to repair due to their non-modular design, the use of proprietary screws and components, and the lack of documentation and software for third-party repair shops. However, the company had announced a while ago that it would prioritize the right-to-repair issue and even provide kits to allow users to repair their own products.

Although these kits have been sold, the company has still not made the expected improvements in many areas. iFixit, stepping in at this point, re-evaluated the iPhone 14 and lowered its repairability score. The platform, has downgraded the repairability score of the iPhone 14 from 7 to 4 out of 10.

iFixit says that the iPhone 14 is still “an improvement over the status quo” thanks to the Self Service Repair program, but it is not as repairable as it could be. The site cites several issues. For example, The iPhone 14 employs software locks designed to restrict users from independently repairing specific components, including the battery, display, and Face ID sensor, without specialized tools and authorization from Apple.

Even with the introduction of the Self Service Repair program, certain repairs like battery replacement remain difficult and time-consuming. Additionally, the company does not offer all the essential parts for full repair capabilities, such as the screen and rear glass, further complicating the repair process for users.

iFixit says that Apple is “falling short of its full potential” when it comes to right-to-repair. The site calls on Apple to make it easier for users to repair their own devices by removing software locks, providing more parts, and making repairs simpler.

As per the leaked renders, the Samsung Galaxy A15 sports a boxy form factor. The power and volume rocker buttons are located on the right side with the former doubling up as a fingerprint scanner. Notably the right frame of the device also has a bump. The back panel has vertically stacked three camera sensors without any camera module. The design resembles the previous Galaxy S flagships. 

On the front, the Samsung Galaxy A15 has a notch also known as Infinity-U display. The screen is said to measure 6.4 inches and there is a slightly thicker bottom chin. The bottom part of the phone houses a USB-C port,  a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a speaker grille. 

In terms of dimensions, the Samsung Galaxy A15 is said to measure 160.2 x 76.8 x 8.4 mm. With the frame bump, the width will expand from 76.8 mm to 77.4 mm.

The core specifications of the Samsung Galaxy A15 remain under wraps for now. We can expect more details to surface in the coming days.

Leaked Galaxy A05 and A05s schematics reveal camera and other specifications

Galaxy A05 and Galaxy A05s are supposed to be the latest budget smartphones from Samsung. Both devices have been making rounds on various certification sites recently, with reports even sharing their design renders. In the latest development, schematic images of both Galaxy A05 and A05s have leaked online, revealing a handful of specifications.

As can be seen in the images, the A05 features a dual-camera system on the rear, similar to what we saw in leaked spy shots. The A05s, on the other hand, features a triple camera system as well as NFC support. Both of these smartphones are expected to bring a 50MP primary camera as well as a 2MP depth shooter.

Previously, it was reported the Galaxy A05s will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery unit with support for 15W fast charging. As per a Geekbench listing, the upcoming handset is powered by a Helio G85 chipset paired with 4GB RAM. The chipset should be the same in Galaxy A05 as well. Bot devices are likely to run One UI 5 based on Android 13 on the software front.

The Google Play Console reveals that the display on the Galaxy A05 will offer a resolution of 720 x 1,600 pixels (20:9 aspect ratio), and it could measure 6.6 inches. Both models are expected to be dual-SIM phones with a dedicated slot for a microSD card; however, there’s no information available regarding the built-in storage capacity at this time.

Samsung is yet to announce the launch date for both of the phones. We should be getting an official confirmation in the coming days. Stay tuned for the updates!

Sensors like an acceleration sensor, gyroscope sensor, geomagnetic sensor, barometric altimeter, and ambient light sensor ensure precise tracking. Bluetooth v5.3 provides reliable connectivity, and it features a circularly polarized GPS antenna with dual-band positioning. With GPS usage, it is said to last 21 hours.

Teclast has launched the P85T tablet with decent specifications and an affordable price tag. The slate lands with an 8-inch display that is supported by a 5,000mAh battery and an Allwinner A523 processor. The P85T comes after Teclast unveiled the M50 Pro and T40 Air tablets in August. Here are the detailed specifications of the new device.

Teclast P85T

The new Teclast P85T brings a good-looking design with curved edges and thick bezels on the display. There are two rings on the back, one of which features a camera sensor while another fits the LED flash. The tablet brings an 8-inch display that resolves at 1,280 x 800 pixels. It is powered by an Allwinner A523 chipset, paired with 4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM.

The chipset brings eight ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores split equally into two clusters operating at 1.8 GHz and 1.42 GHz, respectively (via NoteBookCheck). The Allwinner A523 has a Mali-G57 MC1 GPU and is manufactured around 22 nm nodes.

Teclast P85T also comes with 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 flash storage, a MicroSD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It packs a 5,000mAh battery and charges through a USB Type-C port. For photography, Teclast has equipped the tablet with 2 MP rear camera and 0.3 MP front-facing shooter.

Teclast P85T tablet weighs 335 grams. It is listed for purchase at $79.99 and the company also sells a Folio Case for an additional US$14.99.

Kia Motors is gaining speed in the global vehicle market. In August, the company sold 255,481 units, a 5.2% increase compared to last year. Year-to-date, sales have risen by 8.9%, totaling 2,092,200 vehicles.

However, the real headline is Kia’s booming electric vehicle (EV) sales. In August alone, the company sold over 15,900 electric cars, marking an 82% year-over-year growth. This includes a significant surge in the wholesale sales of their new EV models, the EV6 and EV9, which together sold 9,578 units.

The EV9 is gaining international attention, with its first major export of over 2,250 units. Most of these were shipped outside South Korea, highlighting Kia’s global ambitions in the electric market.

In overseas retail sales, the EV6 is leading the pack with 7,479 units sold, including 2,449 in the U.S. Other models like the Niro EV and Soul EV also performed well, contributing to more than 7,000 retail sales outside South Korea.

The numbers suggest that Kia’s electric lineup is likely to surpass the current monthly average of 10,000 units soon, especially with the positive market response to the new EV9.

Fitbit Charge 6 May Arrive On September 28 As Per Teaser

Fitbit rolled out its newly redesigned app. Additionally, the Google-owned subsidiary also teased a new device that is likely set to debut next week. A short teaser shared on X (formerly Twitter) hints at the arrival of the Charge 6. It is expected to be the successor to the Charge 5 that debuted way back in 2021. For those unaware Google acquired Fitbit in 2021 and the latter’s upcoming product launch happens to be just a few days ahead of the search giant’s annual Pixel event. 

Fitbit Charge 6 teased to arrive next week

On X, Fitbit teased the product unveiling on September 28, next Thursday. The six-second teaser shared on the microblogging platform shows a person swinging their arms with a wrist-worn tracker that looks similar to the previous Charge devices. We can notice the screen, case, and band. This points to the arrival of the Fitbit Charge 6. 

As per 9to5Google, the Fitbit Charge 6 will look identical to its predecessor, the Charge 5. However, there will be one noticeable change. The Google-owned subsidiary will resurrect the physical button to navigate and access various functions easily. The Fitbit Charge 6 is also expected to come with integration for Google apps and services like YouTube Music for playback control and Maps for navigating purposes. 

Previously a Fitbit device had passed the FCC certification website. It was listed as a “Google LLC Wireless Device G3MP5”. This solidifies that the brand is indeed planning to launch a new tracker which could potentially be the Charge 6.

Despite its retro design, the Z f is a very modern camera. It is equipped with the latest in imaging technology, including Nikon’s new Pixel Shift mode, which allows users to capture images with up to 99 megapixels of resolution. The camera also features a variety of advanced video features, such as 10-bit H.265 recording and support for Nikon’s N-Log and Flat Picture Control profiles.

Hisense has launched the L5K laser TV series in China. These TVs are offered in three different screen sizes, ranging from 100- to 120-inches. Packed with features like 4K resolution, a digital laser engine, and Harmon Kardon speakers, these TVs are claimed to offer you an immersive multimedia experience.

Before we lay down more of the tech specs, you need to be aware of what laser TVs are. In essence, laser TVs are not like traditional TVs. They are just laser-powered ultra-short throw (UST) projectors. But this definition is not always true since manufacturers tend to add different features and accessories that might make it seem like a whole different product. For example, Hisense ships the L5K TVs with a foldable screen that does not require zapping holes in your walls.

The Hisense Laser TV L5K series is equipped with the MediaTek MT9639 processor, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 1TB of storage space. It also supports NAS hard drives. As for the pricing, the 100-inch model is priced at 25,999 Yuan ($3,567), the 110-inch model is priced at 36,999 Yuan ($5,076), and the 120-inch model is priced at 49,999 Yuan ($6,860).
