New GBoost V8 Kit can transform any bike into an electric bicycle within minutes

GBoost has unveiled a new e-bike conversion kit that can transform any bicycle into an e-bike within 10 minutes. The GBoost V8 Kit is a fun, do-it-yourself conversion kit that will appeal to several customers.

GBoost V8 Kit

The V8 Kit is a compact, lightweight, and quiet device to install. The company says it can be installed on any bicycle and it weighs just 950g. The lightweight design of the conversion kit means that it can be carried out on trips and used on even a rental bicycle. The V8 kit has a maximum power output of 900W. Its design however potentially results in power losses. The power is transferred to the back wheel via a roller system.

GBoost V8 Kit

The GBoost V8 kit is appropriate for urban commuting and leisure rides on urban roads. The bike conversion kit is offered in three battery configurations. The first option comes with a 250Wh battery, while the second option is a 375Wh battery pack. The top battery option is the 453Wh pack.

GBoost V8 e-bike conversion Kit pricing & availability

The price of the lowest battery configuration is about $1,050 while the 375Wh kit is priced at $1,780. The biggest battery pack comes with a $1,285 price tag. The prices of the new GBoost e-bike conversion kit may affect its appeal. There are several more durable options at a much cheaper price. The GBoost V8 Kit is currently available in Europe.

EU considers mandatory ban on Huawei for 5G networks

The European Union is considering a mandatory ban on the use of Huawei in its 5G networks. The move comes as a response to increasing concerns in Brussels about the security risks posed by the Chinese company.

In 2020, the EU said member-states could restrict or exclude Huawei from core parts of their telecoms networks, but resisted pressure from the United States for an outright ban. However, the EU’s internal market commissioner Thierry Breton told telecoms ministers last Friday that only a third of EU countries had implemented Huawei bans in critical areas.

Huawei Ban

Security Concerns Prompt EU’s Actions

To address this issue and compensate for the guidance falling short of a ban in 2020, the EU may introduce a mandatory ban on companies deemed to pose security risks. Germany, in particular, has been considering banning certain components from Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE in its telecoms network, according to a government source.

The move by the EU is a significant development in the ongoing battle between the United States and China for dominance in the global 5G market. The United States has long argued that Huawei poses a security risk due to its close ties to the Chinese government, and has urged its allies to ban the company from their 5G networks. China has denied these allegations and has accused the United States of trying to stifle its economic growth.

The EU’s decision to consider a mandatory ban on Huawei is a sign that the bloc is taking the security risks posed by the company seriously. However, it remains to be seen whether the EU will be able to reach a consensus on the issue, or whether member-states will continue to take different approaches.

The EU’s decision on Huawei is likely to be closely watched by other countries around the world. The United States, Australia, and Japan have already banned Huawei from their 5G networks, and other countries are considering similar measures. The EU’s decision could set a precedent for other countries and could have a significant impact on the global 5G market.

China’s First-Ever Domestically Made Large Cruise Liner Undocks From Shanghai

China’s first home-grown large cruise liner, the Adora Magic City, weighing 135,500 tonnes, departed from its dock in Shanghai on Tuesday. This marks a major breakthrough for China’s shipbuilding and high-end manufacturing industries, following the recent launch of the C919 passenger jet.

The construction of the Adora Magic City took nearly four years to complete. The cruise liner will now undergo a series of sea trials, further solidifying China’s growing presence in the maritime industry. Shanghai’s Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of the state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation, manufactured this large cruise liner.

source:CSSC

The ship measures 323.6 meters in length and weighs 135,500 tons. It features a total of 2,125 guest rooms and has the capacity to accommodate 5,246 people. Following a six-day floating process, the ship departed from Shanghai. The next step for the vessel involves berthing at an SWS wharf, where final testing and interior work will be carried out.

The vessel is as tall as a 24-floor building. It comprises 14 decks, accommodating a wide range of leisure and accommodation areas that span over 40,000 square meters of public space. Notably, it will house China’s largest duty-free retail space at sea. Moreover, the Adora Magic City holds the distinction of being the world’s first cruise ship equipped with 5G technology, enabling advanced connectivity capabilities onboard.

The trial voyage of the ship is scheduled to commence in July, followed by a second trial voyage in August. The primary objective is to successfully complete and deliver the ship before the conclusion of the year. Following the two sea trials, the ship is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2023. Commercial operation is expected to commence in 2024.

Departing from Shanghai, the ship is set to embark on voyages to Japan and Southeast Asia, catering to medium and long routes along the Maritime Silk Road.

The Adora Magic City has achieved the distinction of being the world’s most intricate single electromechanical vessel. With an impressive count of over 25 million parts, it surpasses the number of individual components utilized in China’s inaugural domestic aircraft, the C919. Furthermore, the Adora Magic City surpasses the number of parts found in the Fuxing bullet train series by an impressive thirteenfold. This notable accomplishment highlights China’s engineering capabilities.

This state-of-the-art liner stands as China’s latest triumph in high-end ship production, filling the void in its maritime portfolio. Upon the ship’s delivery, China will join the ranks of Germany, France, Italy, and Finland as the fifth country capable of constructing large cruise ships. This achievement further solidifies China’s position as a leading player in the global shipbuilding industry.

OpenAI CEO Altman Advocates Global Cooperation to Mitigate Existential Risk Posed by AI

In a recent visit to the United Arab Emirates, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, expressed his concerns about the potential “existential risk” posed by artificial intelligence (AI) to humanity. Altman proposed the establishment of an agency, similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency, to supervise and regulate this groundbreaking technology.

Altman emphasized the need for careful supervision and management of AI to ensure its development aligns with the best interests of humanity. Altman’s remarks shed light on the growing recognition of the significant challenges and potential dangers associated with AI, prompting calls for global cooperation and responsible governance in this rapidly advancing field.

During his ongoing global tour, Altman has been engaging in discussions about artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications. He has raised concerns about the significant risks associated with AI and emphasized the pressing need to find effective ways to manage these risks while still reaping the immense benefits that AI offers.

During the speech, he drew attention to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a model for managing dangerous technologies through the implementation of safeguards. Altman acknowledged that while AI may not pose an immediate threat, its rapid development could lead to significant dangers. He called for a nuanced approach, acknowledging the current state of AI while remaining vigilant about its potential risks. Altman’s remarks highlight the importance of finding a delicate balance between embracing AI’s benefits and implementing adequate precautions to mitigate its future dangers.

Recognizing the potential risks associated with AI, Altman whose company created the most famous AI ChatBot ChatGPT, emphasized the necessity of government intervention during his testimony to the U.S. Congress in May. He stressed the crucial role of governance in effectively managing the risks associated with AI. This growing focus on AI regulation reflects the need for proactive measures to ensure the responsible and safe development and deployment of AI technologies on a global scale.

Global cooperation is key to addressing Artificial Intelligence risks:

In a UN article titled Towards an Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, author Audrey Azoulay wrote that Global cooperation is crucial to ensure the responsible and beneficial use of emerging technologies, particularly those based on artificial intelligence (AI), for sustainable development.

Various stakeholders, including businesses, research centers, science academies, UN member states, international organizations, and civil society associations, need to come together to establish an ethical framework for AI development. Moreover, there is a need for stronger coordination among these entities.

Addressing AI’s ethical implications requires a comprehensive global approach, involving the participation of UN funds, agencies, and programs. This inclusive approach will help to avoid a selective approach to ethics and explore ways to leverage AI for sustainable development effectively.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is now receiving increasing attention from lawmakers worldwide, with the European Union (EU) taking a notable lead. The EU, consisting of 27 member states, is actively working on an AI Law that could potentially serve as the global standard for AI regulation.
