The Palm Reading iReader Smart Air Pro e-note has finally been launched in China. The new e-paper book reader comes with an 8-inch 300 PPI ink screen. It offers significant performance improvements and has a larger storage capacity than its predecessor. It also has an excellent display.

The latest Palm Reading offering is a high-end, new-generation electronic paper book. It is equipped with a 2GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The larger storage space means that the gadget can accommodate more books than the previous model. It uses a Carta 1200 panel with improved refresh and contrast rates, while the thickness was reduced by up to 40%. Specifically, there is a 22% and 15% increase in the display refresh rate and contrast ratio respectively over its predecessor.

The iReader Smart Air Pro is designed to read books and take notes, as well as edit PDF files. It is the first iReader product to support English out of the box. It has a front-lit display with 28 levels of warm and cold lights for a variety of scenarios.

The Smart Air Pro e-paper book has an upgraded screen surface etching process and a 92% light transmittance. This provides an almost balanced feel when handwriting and also visual perception. The Smart Air Pro supports 4,096 levels of pressure using its stylus.

TSMC Could Manufacture the Majority of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Chips

Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets are expected to power the majority of flagships in 2024. The chipsets are rumored to be sourced from both Samsung and TSMC to reduce manufacturing costs. However, according to a report, the Taiwanese company will get to manufacture the majority of SD 8 Gen 2 chips due to the high 80 percent yield rate of its 3 nm process. Here are the details.

A Business Next report, citing experts specializing in semiconductor studies, claims that TSMC’s 3nm process node has a yield rate of about 60 to 70 percent, and even around 80 percent in some cases. There are many key factors that affect the yield rate, including materials, parameters, and machines, all of which are variable.

It is estimated that the current yield rate from a 3nm GAA wafer is 60–70%, but TSMC is somehow managing to get a yield rate between 75–80%. If the data provided by the report is anything to go by, both Apple and Qualcomm won’t have shipping issues with their next-generation chipsets, the A17 Bionic and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Samsung was reported to get a yield rate of about 20% before partnering with US company Silicon Frontline Technology. This is likely the reason why the majority of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 orders will be fulfilled by the Taiwanese manufacturer. According to those familiar with Samsung’s plans, the company’s wafer yield is only 10%.

As a result of the added costs and complexities associated with this manufacturing process, Qualcomm may have to charge its smartphone partners more per chipset. This should mean that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphones will be slightly pricier compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

POCO C50 appears on Geekbench with Helio A22 SoC ahead of tomorrow’s launch

Poco is all set to launch the Poco C50 in India tomorrow (January 3). The C50 is an entry-level smartphone and will be made available to purchase via Flipkart. The device is essentially a rebranded Redmi A1+ and carries a similar spec sheet.

Now, it has finally appeared on Geekbench, revealing its performance and confirming some key specifications. The listing discloses that the model number for the C50’s India variation is 220733SPI. The phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6761V SoC, which is essentially the Helio A22 SoC. The peak clock frequency for the entry-level quad-core SoC is 2.0GHz.

The phone will at least have 3GB of RAM when POCO releases it. It’s anticipated that the phone will provide 32GB and 64GB of storage space. The listing also verifies that Android 12 will be pre-installed on the device when it debuts in India. It might run stock Android or have an MIUI 13 overlay for POCO. The listing also discloses the single-core and multi-core Geekbench scores for the POCO smartphone, which were 140 and 504, respectively.

A 6.52-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop notch and a maximum brightness of 400nits is anticipated for the Poco C50. Similar to the POCO C40, the gadget sports a leather-textured design on the back.

The gadget is powered by an IMG PowerVR GPU and a MediaTek Helio A22 CPU. The device comes pre-installed with Android 12 Go Edition.

The Poco C50’s 5000mAh battery can be charged at 10W. Along with an 8MP back camera, it also has a depth sensor. For taking selfies, it sports a front-facing 5MP camera. The phone has a fingerprint reader on the back. The Poco C40 could also feature a 3.5mm audio jack and a dedicated micro-SD card slot.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Could Ditch the 128GB Base Model

Although flagship smartphones have long abandoned 64GB as the base model, 128GB still remains the industry standard. But that seems to be changing now as Samsung is rumored to launch the upcoming Galaxy S23 series with at least 256 GB storage. While this might be good news for the power users, the normal ones will not be as thrilled.

The piece of information comes from Ahmed Qwaider, who has a decent track record of Samsung-related leaks. If 128GB is indeed gone, then we can expect the higher-end Galaxy S23 Ultra to come with only 12GB RAM. Notably, Qwaider revealed only one storage option for the S23 and S23+ but three for the S23 Ultra.

It goes without saying that the increase in base storage would translate to a higher starting price. To recall Samsung Galaxy S22 series was launched last year with a starting price of around $883. But this year, we may see a significant jump in those numbers.

Samsung’s 2023 flagships are just around the corner. The lineup should include the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The brand is rumored to launch the new smartphones alongside the One UI 5.1 and the next generation of Samsung Galaxy Book on February 1. However, an official launch date is still awaited.

Earlier today, a leak revealed the color options of the upcoming models. Apparently, the brand will not offer the S23 smartphones in white this year. The devices may arrive in Phantom Black, Green, Lavender, and Cream. In addition, rumors suggest the series will feature a new, robust thermal management system for better performance. The Bluetooth multi-point technology allows the earbuds to be connected to two devices simultaneously. The Fast Pair technology also allows for seamless and super-fast pairing with input devices. You can charge the Moto Buds 600 ANC’s case wirelessly. It also has touch controls and an IPX5 water-resistant rating. The Moto Buds 600 ANC has Google Assistant functionality and also features a mono mode. The new earbuds are part of the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion package when purchased. It is however expected to go on sale this January.

The unibody frame design of the Tyson e-bike is touted as the first in its category. Its design means the bike is lightweight and durable. It is therefore being projected as a long-lasting electric bicycle that will deliver value for the money spent on its purchase.

According to the company, the Heybike Tyson e-bike was designed to give riders the ultimate bike in terms of aesthetics, convenience, and riding experience. It is a gorgeous, handy, and strong bike. It can be folded into tight spaces without hassles and its 750W motor provides sufficient power for its operation.

A 48V 15Ah battery with a 720Wh capacity gives the Heybike Tyson an assisted range of about 88km. The bike weighs about 35kg which is not that light. It is unclear what weight gains were gotten with its unibody frame design. However, some of the reasons for its weight are the rear swing arm and its heavy suspension components.

The Heybike Tyson comes with spokeless wheels which helps to reduce maintenance costs. The electric motor is ensconced in the rear wheel and it has a 7-speed gear cluster. There are no definitive details yet on the top speed of the bike. It could however be limited to either Class 2 or Class 3 speeds. This means that the bike will have top speeds of about 32km/h or 45km/h. It will also come with a thumb throttle, as with other Heybike electric bicycles.

In terms of its load-carrying capacity, the Tyson e-bike can carry loads of up to 55kg in its rear rack. It has a front hydraulic suspension fork, as well as a rear suspension system. 300,000 Units Of Redmi K60 Series Sold In 5 Minutes Of The First Sale In China

Xiaomi launched the Redmi K60 series comprising the regular, Pro and K60E variants in China last month. The K60 and K60 Pro went on sale in the country yesterday. Today, the Xiaomi sub-brand announced the success of the first flash sale of the smartphones. The company revealed on the microblogging platform Weibo that it has sold the first batch of 3,00,000 units of the Redmi K60 phones in 5 minutes. 

The sales numbers sound impressive considering that 3,00,000 units were sold in 5 minutes. This means that 100 units were purchased every second or 60,000 units were purchased every minute. Unfortunately, despite the success of the first sale, the Redmi K60 series still falls short of the sales record of its predecessor. The Redmi K50 comprising of two devices sold 3,30,000 units in the first day. This is a 10 percent decline in the first flash sale. 

The Xiaomi sub-brand said that users loved new features like a 1220p screen, wireless charging, and Snapdragon 8 processors. It remains to be seen if the overall sales of the Redmi K60 series will surpass the Redmi K50 series.

As for core specifications, the Redmi K60 series feature a 6.67-inch OLED display bearing a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The regular, Pro, and K60E come with 60MP, 50MP, and 48MP main sensors paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth snapper. Internally, the K60 and K60 Pro are powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors respectively whereas the K60E is equipped with Dimensity 8200 SoC. All three devices pack up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB storage. The Pro model is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 120W wired charging whereas the regular and K60E is fuelled by a 5,500mAh cell with 67W charging.

Oppo Watch 3 Could Take on Galaxy Watch 5 in Global Markets

The Oppo Watch 3 series made its debut in China in August. It has been more than four months, however, the brand is yet to make an official announcement regarding the availability of its latest wearables in international markets.

But a report recently suggested that the Oppo Watch 3 will make its way to India by the end of March or early April.  Unfortunately, the report did not reveal anything more about the product.

In 2020, Oppo debuted the first-generation Oppo Watch in international markets. That wearable featured different chipsets in mainland China and other regions.

The Oppo Watch 2 series remained exclusive to China. Now, if the report is to be believed, the Oppo Watch 3 will be released in international markets.

Since the first-gen model had different specs across regions, there’s a chance that the Oppo Watch 3 for global markets could be different from the original sold in China.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Oppo launches the recently debuted Oppo Watch SE as Oppo Watch 3 outside mainland China. Because this particular wearable could help the company maintain competitive pricing.

Either way, we hope that Oppo brings any of these smartwatches to global markets. Because the options for watches with Wear OS are way more limited than in previous years.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series of wearables are currently the default choice for anyone looking for a proper smartwatch on the Android platform. The only other options are Fosill Gen 6 Wellness Edition and Google Pixel Watch. But these two are only sold in select countries, unlike Galaxy Watches which are available in almost all regions.

Both Oppo Watch 3 and Oppo Watch SE feature great hardware. The former is powered by a Snapdragon W5 chip, while the latter houses a Snapdragon 4100 Plus SoC. They also come with co-processors, namely Apollo 4 Plus (Watch 3)  and Apollo 4s (Watch SE).

The aforementioned hardware is enough to run the latest Wear OS 3.0 smoothly. Thus, if Oppo brings either of these watches to global markets, they can take on Samsung.

These wearables also offer features, such as eSIM, Bluetooth calling, multiple sports modes, heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen level monitoring, sleep tracking, 5ATM water resistance, and more. But they lack ECG and blood pressure monitoring, which are offered on Galaxy Watch 4/5.

Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Colour Variant Revealed

Samsung is all set to launch the Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup of smartphones. The lineup will include three smartphones; Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The item may be seen in the leaked photo in all its beauty.  Images demonstrate that Samsung’s top-tier flagship phone hasn’t undergone any significant changes to its design or physical factor. Smartphone features and specifications may be officially announced when the device’s release date gets closer. The company might officially reveal the device’s launch date in January. Around the same time, we can also expect some teases.

POCO C50 To Launch In India Tomorrow, Flipkart Availability Confirmed

POCO C50 launch date has been revealed in India. It is set to debut in the country on January 3rd. The device is confirmed to be available from Flipkart. The e-commerce platform has put up a microsite of the upcoming offering revealing its key specifications. 

The POCO C50 will be an entry-level smartphone. As per the Flipkart microsite, it appears to be similar to the Redmi A1+. The upcoming offering will feature a 6.52-inch display bearing an HD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch. It will have a 120Hz touch sampling rate. The device has a leather texture back panel with a squarish camera module and a conventional fingerprint scanner. 

The POCO C50 will have a dual rear camera setup of an 8MP main sensor. It has a 5MP front-facing selfie snapper. 

Under the hood, the POCO C50 will be powered by a MediaTek Helio A22 processor. It will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery unit with support for 10W charging. The smartphone will run on Android 12 Go Edition out of the box. It is listed in Blue colour on the Flipkart microsite, but we can expect more options at the launch. 

The Flipkart microsite does not reveal any details about the RAM capacity of the POCO C50. However, the phone’s Geekbench listing revealed 3GB RAM onboard. We will learn more details about the POCO C50’s pricing and availability tomorrow.

OnePlus 11 Real-Life Images Appear Before January 4 Launch

The OnePlus 11 flagship phone is scheduled to launch on Wednesday (Jan. 4) in China. Several Weibo users have shared real-life shots of the OP11 before its official announcement. What’s shown below are not leaked shots, but real-life images of the device kept on display in offline stores in China.

In the new images, the OnePlus 11 can be seen flaunting a punch-hole display with curved edges on the front. The circular camera module on the back fuses with the right side of the device. The Hasselblad branding is available on the middle camera module.

The top edge of the device has two holes, one of which is a microphone. The other hole could be for the speaker. On the bottom, there is a SIM slot, a microphone, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille. As far as specs are concerned, the rumor mill has already leaked almost everything about it.

The OnePlus 11 will have a 6.7-inch E4 AMOLED display with a Quad HD+ resolution of 3216 x 1440 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. It will include the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and a 5000mAh battery, which will support 100W rapid charging. The SoC will be paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The phone will be available in three configurations, such as 12GB + 256GB, 16GB + 256GB, and 16GB + 512GB.

The OnePlus 11 will be equipped with a Hasselblad-optimized triple camera unit, featuring a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 32-megapixel telephoto lens. On the front, it will feature a 16-megapixel selfie camera. Some of the other features that will be available on the device include an alert slider, an under-display fingerprint scanner, the world’s first bionic motor, ColorOS 13-flavored Android 13 OS, an IP54-rated chassis, and Gorilla Glass 5, The OP11 will come in Volcanic Black and Emerald Green shades.

EarSpy let’s you eavesdrop on phone conversations via motion sensors

Researchers have just developed an interesting new technology for side channel attacks on smartphones. It is called EarSpy and it is capable of eavesdropping on your phone conversations through the handset’s built in motion sensors.

This tech was developed by a group of researchers from the University of Dayton, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers University, Texas A&M University, and Temple University. As per their report, the researchers had managed to record vibrations from a phone’s loudspeaker in the past. But now, the new method of attack can even map the vibrations coming from the smartphone’s earpiece. So your conversations can be caught even when you’re talking with the phone on your ear.

The findings were shared on SecurityWeek and EarSpy was tested on the OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 9 models. Interestingly enough, the results were surprisingly accurate and were made through data that was taken from nothing but the earpiece and the built in accelerometer. Fortunately, older OnePlus models were safe in this regard, but this was due to their lack of stereo speakers as per the research paper. The group recorded and analyzed the reverberations from ear speaker with the help of spectrograms and time-frequency domain feature extraction.

Apart from just capturing the words, the team also worked on identifying gender of the speaker as well. To take things further, there is also a potential risk of this technology being able to determine the identity of the speaker. While new Android versions have a strong security measures against malware, EarSpy is able to bypass all of these security features since the raw data from a smartphone’s motion sensors is a lot more easily accessible. The researchers have noted that smartphone brands should position the motion sensors away from any source of vibrations to reduce the risk of this vulnerability.

Compatible OnePlus 5G Phones Launched Since 2020 Now Support Jio and Airtel’s 5G Network

OnePlus smartphones launched after 2020 now support 5G connectivity in India. The latest generation cellular network was launched in the country in October last year. Telecom operators Jio and Airtel are already offering the network in some parts as well as expanding its availability. Smartphone OEMs have also been pushing 5G support software updates for their devices. 

Now, OnePlus has announced that users who brought a compatible 5G OnePlus smartphone since 2020 can experience the latest generation cellular network provided by Airtel and Jio. The brand added that it has worked with telecom operators to provide support and unlock 5G on its devices. It’s worth noting that Vodafone Idea hasn’t rolled out its 5G network, hence it is not yet available on OnePlus phones. 

There are a host of 5G phones from OnePlus as well as under the Nord branding that have been launched since 2020. These include the flagship OnePlus 10 Pro, 10T, 10R, OnePlus 9 Pro, 9, 9 RT, 9R, OnePlus 8 Pro, 8T, and 8. Under the Nord lineup, the devices include OnePlus Nord, Nord 2T, Nord CE, Nord 2, Nord CE2, and Nord CE 2 Lite. 

As per Counterpoint Research’s smartphone shipments tracker in the third quarter of 2022, OnePlus led the 5G smartphone market in the affordable premium segment (Rs 35,000 – Rs 40,000) as well as in the Rs 20,000 – Rs 30,000 price bracket. 

In other news, OnePlus is gearing up to launch the OnePlus 11 and Buds Pro 2 in China on January 4th. Both devices are also set to debut globally on February 7th.

Realme GT Neo5 Will Take Mobile Charging Speeds to Next Level; Launching Soon

The Realme GT Neo lineup has got some breakthrough innovations in charging speeds. The Realme GT Neo2 brought a 5000mAh + 65W charging combination which was pretty decent enough, its successor GT Neo3 brings the support for whopping 150W fast charging and now there have been some online reports which claim that the successor of GT Neo3, the Realme GT Neo5, will bring the record-breaking 240W fast wired charging support. The three generations of the device have really got some great innovations, at least in the terms of charging.

The next Realme GT Neo5 smartphone will reportedly offer 240W cable charging, making it the fastest-charging smartphone to date. The USB Type-C connection on the gadget will handle charging at up to 240W. The gadget gets charged more quickly and efficiently using the dual battery packs already in place. A new generation of charging technology supports a larger multiplier charge, and the single-core current can exceed 12A. Electricity is turned into a charge pump to execute high-voltage direct charge.

In order to pass the current without any problems, the company will also use a sturdy charging cable. High-power transmission of the greater current will be possible thanks to the thicker wires. Additionally, a USB Type-C connector with lower resistance will be added to the smartphone to facilitate faster charging. Huawei to launch 12nm & 14nm chips this year: Report

There have been a number of rumors regarding Huawei preparing to manufacture its very own chipsets again. The company is apparently planning to make new chips that are based on the 12nm and 14nm process.

The news arrives from known tipster on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website). As per the new leak, the company is making preparations to begin the first mass production of 12nm and 14nm based chipsets. The tipster further added that Huawei will be releasing these chipsets under its own name. Furthermore, the Chinese tech giant isn’t new to semiconductors since its HiSilicon subsidiary has made advanced chipsets that rivaled Qualcomm and MediaTek for years in mobile devices market.

However, since the company lost its primary supplier TSMC, these new chipsets are being developed and produced on process nodes that aren’t as advanced as current gen mobile chips. For those unaware, TSMC has already moved on towards 4nm and even 3nm process technology. But regardless, these chips might still be viable for other devices like smart wearable products or possibly even IoT based gadgets. As per the tipster, certain chip models are already in use internally, ahead of a commercial release.

This leak hints that Huawei is working on non advanced design chips that will be more efficient. It would even help the brand establish its revived semiconductor presence in the industry. However, this does not mean that the company has no plans to eventually move on to advanced processors. Reportedly, the company will not be releasing such chips till 2024 for the mobile application processor nodes.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series to feature improved cooling to reduce CPU throttling

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is set to launch soon with various improvements over its predecessor. But now, a new report has suggested that the next gen flagship will also arrive with a new and improved cooling system as well.

Just a while ago, the GeekBench listing for the entire Samsung Galaxy S23 series was leaked, which showcased the performance of the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. However, there were some discrepancies in this listing. While the single core tests were in line with other Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors, the multi core tests were lower than the norm. This is odd considering the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the Galaxy S23 lineup is expected to be an overclock variant and hinted at CPU throttling issues on the S23.

Although a new report from AndroidHeadlines found that the latest GeekBench test for the Galaxy S23 Ultra managed to reach a score of 5,179 points. This meant that the South Korean tech giant managed to fix whatever issue that caused the performance to throttle. For those unaware, throttling basically implies fall in CPU performance when the chip gets too hot. According to tipster @AhmedQwaider888 on Twitter, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series will actually feature a more robust thermal management system.

Reportedly, the Galaxy S23 will feature a cooling system that is 1.6 times better than the one housed in the Galaxy S22. Similarly, the Galaxy S23+ will have a 2.8 times better cooling system than the Galaxy S22+. Lastly, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will also feature a cooling system that is 2.3 times better than the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Thanks to this, the company will be able to reduce thermal throttling issues for longer sustained performance.

Apple Patents Bimodal Reverse Recharging System for Future iPhones

A new Apple patent filing has revealed the use of a bimodal reverse recharging system on a future iPhone, which could potentially enable the phone to wirelessly recharge accessories. This news follows rumors and reports that have circulated in recent years about the possibility of reverse charging on an iPhone. In October 2020, MacRumors reported on an FCC filing that supported the idea of reverse charging on an iPhone, but in February 2021, Mark Gurman claimed that wirelessly recharging accessories was unlikely in the near term.

The new patent filing, which was published by the US Patent & Trademark Office last Thursday, relates to a wireless charging system using bimodal magnetic alignment components for alignment of devices. Currently, the wireless recharging system on the back of an iPhone is limited to a large coil that cannot support charging smaller devices like an Apple Watch.

Apple‘s patent background notes that wireless charging technologies have been developed that exploit electromagnetic induction to charge portable electronic devices without the need for a charging cord. For example, some portable electronic devices can be recharged by merely resting the device on a charging surface of a wireless charger device. A transmitter coil disposed below the charging surface is driven with an alternating current that produces a time-varying magnetic flux that induces a current in a corresponding receiver coil in the portable electronic device.

However, sometimes the alignment of the magnets can be difficult to set correctly, which can affect the efficiency of power transfer. To solve this problem, Apple‘s new patent introduces bimodal magnetic alignment components, which can attract and hold a pair of devices in the desired alignment. These alignment components can include primary and secondary components, each of which has an annular arrangement of magnets with a fixed arrangement of magnetic polarities. When the primary and secondary components are brought into proximity with each other, they will attract and hold the devices in the desired alignment.

In summary, the bimodal reverse recharging system on a future iPhone could potentially enable the phone to wirelessly recharge accessories, thanks to the use of bimodal magnetic alignment components. While it is not yet clear when this technology will be implemented, it shows that Apple is exploring ways to improve the wireless charging capabilities of its devices.
