But is it the best flagship killer in the top-tier segment? Is there a good rival for this handset or there is no device in the market with the same value for money. Well, the best rival for the new flagship from Xiaomi’s sub-brand is actually the first Realme premium flagship: the Realme GT 2 Pro. This is a comparison between the specifications of the POCO F4 GT and the Realme GT 2 Pro.

Design

The design of the POCO F4 GT is very aggressive and gaming-centric: when you look at it, you can immediately understand that it is a gaming phone. Despite its affordable price tag, it is built with premium materials: it has a glass back, an aluminum frame, and a front glass protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Two of the three color options of the Realme GT 2 Pro are made with a special bio-polymer to improve sustainability and designed by the known Japanese Naoto Fukasawa. While the Realme GT 2 Pro provides a very original and refined look, the materials are cheaper as the phone does not sport an aluminum frame and it is entirely made of polymers. Further, you should consider that the POCO F4 GT features two physical magnetic pop-up gaming triggers on the right side, very useful for gamers.

Display

The display of the Realme GT 2 Pro is a lot better than the one found on the POCO F4 GT and it matches the specifications of the displays found on the most expensive flagships. It is an AMOLED panel with the LTPO technology enabling an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, one billion colors, a Quad HD+ resolution, the HDR10+ certification, and a diagonal of 6.7 inches, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader. The POCO F4 GT has an inferior 6.67-inch panel with one billion colors, a 120 Hz refresh rate without the LTPO technology, the HDR10+ certification, and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. In this case, the fingerprint reader is side-mounted.

Specs & Software

When it comes to the hardware and performance, it is essentially a draw. Both the phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform by Qualcomm running at a max frequency of 3 GHz and paired with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. They run Android 12 out of the box with a highly customized user interface on top. Note that the POCO F4 GT has a virtual proximity sensor, so the performance of the proximity sensor will be inferior if compared to its rival.

Camera

If you are looking for the best camera phone, go for the Realme GT 2 Pro without thinking twice. It comes with a triple camera including a Sony IMX766 main sensor with a 50 MP resolution and OIS, a 50 MP ultrawide camera, and a 3 MP microlens with 40x magnification. It is a high-end camera setup, unlike the one found on the POCO F4 GT. The Xiaomi flagship killer has a triple camera including a 64 MP midrange-class main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide camera, and a 2 MP macro lens. The GT 2 Pro even comes with a better selfie snapper with a 32 MP resolution.

Battery

The Realme GT 2 Pro provides a longer battery life not only because it has a bigger 5000 mAh battery, but also because its display has the LTPO technology improving the efficiency. On the other hand, the smaller 4700 mAh battery of the POCO F4 GT features a faster 120W charging technology.

Price

You need at least €749/$797 to purchase the Realme GT 2 Pro, while the POCO F4 GT starts from just €599/$637. The GT 2 Pro wins the comparison due to its better display, cameras, and battery, but a lot of people may prefer the POCO flagship due to its higher value for money.

Samsung’s T7 Shield SSD is a more durable version of the T7, starts at $143.99

Samsung has released a more rugged version of its T7 portable USB-C SSD. It is called the T7 Shield and has gone on sale today with two options available. The Samsung T7 Shield portable USB-C SSD is priced at $143.99 and $260.99, for the 1TB and 2TB versions respectively.Samsung T7 Shield

The Samsung T7 Shield has the same internals as the T7, but its rugged externals seem to have trumped that of the metal T7. The rubber coating of the device allows for better heat management, as well as a higher drop and scratch resistance for the device.

The T7 Shield is rated IP65 which offers sufficient dust and water resistance. It can efficiently transfer up to 1TB of data while a higher quantum of data will trigger its Dynamic Thermal Guard. The thermal guard ramps up the speed of data transfer thereby safeguarding the device.Samsung T7 Shield

The Samsung T7 Shield has similar Read and write speeds as the T7 and T7 Touch, and it comes in three colors: blue, black, and beige. It is compatible with a wide array of devices from Macs, to Windows, Android phones, and game consoles.

The package comes with two USB cables for USB-C and USB-A data transfers. The corresponding metal-coated T7 models are priced lower than the new T7 Shield. It is also projected that the prices of the two variants could subsequently be reviewed downwards. The unique selling point for the T7 Shield remains its ruggedness.

Xiaomi Mi 9 transformed into a gaming phone with 9,900mAh battery, cooling fan & more!

A YouTube video has detailed how a used Xiaomi Mi 9 was transformed into a beastly gaming phone. The video was posted by the Geekerwan channel and shows how a cheap Mi 9 was gradually transformed across several aspects into a monster of a gaming phone.Xiaomi 90 Pro

The Xiaomi Mi 9 flagship was released in 2019 and it is powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset. It has a 3,300 mAh battery which is highly inadequate in gaming applications. The heating mechanism of the Mi 9 is also inadequate if it is used as a gaming phone. The YouTube video mentioned that the Mi 9 used was bought for the equivalent of $107. The battery capacity was tripled by connecting three 3,300mAh batteries in parallel, yielding 9,900mAh. The new capacity was then integrated into the smartphone’s internal system via the needed software tuning.Xiaomi Mi 9

For starters, the process of transforming the Mi 9 into a gaming phone involves significant technicalities, and it is only for techies. After getting the monster battery capacity settled, the next step was to overclock and overvolt the Snapdragon 855 chip. This enabled the phone to operate at more than 50 frames per second (50 fps) as compared to the factory frame rate.Xiaomi Mi 9

To adequately cater to the massive heat that will be generated by the device, modifications were made to the thermal management system. The camera module of the Mi 9 was removed and a heat sink with a powerful cooling fan was added. The cooling fan is powered by the phone’s battery through a DC to DC converter board. The board regulates the current to deliver 5V to the cooling fan. The cooling fan’s speed can be regulated via an added button in the device.

The modified Mi 9 is packaged in a 3D-printed case. It also has a universal bracket to mount the gaming phone onto a game controller. The device was shown to have done well in several performance and benchmark tests, as indicated in the YouTube video. It is unclear whether the promoters of this new gaming phone are ready to produce more units of their gaming powerhouse.

The cost of the transformation seems minimal, but it requires some degree of technical expertise. Generally, smartphones with a powerful processor could potentially be transformed into gaming phones. The key adjustments needed are the battery and heat management modifications.

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 FE has been a favorite for some and uninteresting for others. Whatever be the case, its successor was said to be in the pipeline this year. However, a new leak reveals that the Samsung Galaxy S22 FE may not actually happen.

According to a Korean blog, there’s a possibility that the Samsung Galaxy S22 FE will not be released this year. It is said that there’s no available development firmware for the smartphone, nor does the development team have any AP-related content for the device. As per Dohyun Kim, this is similar to the Galaxy Note 21’s situation where the sign of its availability was little to none.

As of now, there’s no official confirmation regarding this by the brand, so it’s recommended to take the information with a grain of salt.

Although the phone’s not arriving this year, we expect it to launch sometime later. Previous rumors have revealed that the phone could arrive with a Dimensity chipset. Redmi will rename the Note 12 series, will be a true successor to the Note 10 Pro: Lu Weibing

Last year, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 11 Pro in China. The device, however, was confusing for many buyers as it wasn’t an upgrade over the existing Redmi Note 10 Pro which was selling with a cheaper price tag.

Redmi Note 11 Pro vs Note 11 Pro+ Featured 1

Now, Redmi’s general manager Lu Weibing has come out to clear the confusion over the device. In a Weibo post, the Redmi GM explains that since last year, the company has adopted a “two generations a year strategy.” Out of these, one generation will focus on extreme performance while the other will prioritize all-around experience.

Redmi Note 12 Pro rename

The company basically applied this strategy with the Note 11 Pro making it an all-around experience device after debuting the performance-focused Redmi Note 10 Pro earlier in the year.

The Redmi GM admitted that this approach made the Note 11 Pro 5G a confusing device for customers as they were expecting a direct successor of the performance-focused Note 10 Pro. To solve this confusion, Redmi has decided to rename its upcoming Redmi Note 12 series (placeholder name) to something that better represents its emphasis on performance.

Lu Weibing has also asked community members for suggestions regarding the name on the upcoming device.

Coming to the specs of the next-gen Redmi Note phones, the devices were recently spotted on TENAA with 22041216C and 22041216UC model numbers. The listing reveals that the devices have a 6.6-inch display, likely FHD+ in resolution. The 22041216C variant has a 4,980mAh battery, while the 22041216UC model has a 4,300mAh battery. Both of these devices run Android 12 out of the box. Other than that, the upcoming Redmi Note is expected to come with a MediaTek dimensity chipset which is the Dimensity 8100. So the device is expected to come with the Dimensity 8000 or Dimensity 1300 SoC.

Honor X30 5G components breakdown reveals up to 40% reliance on the US

Former Huawei subsidiary Honor seems to have sufficiently extricated itself from its perceived connections with Huawei. The Honor X30 5G teardown has shown that the new smartphone has more than 40% of its components sourced from US suppliers. This is the clearest indication yet that Honor is steadily recovering from the US sanction regime it has been tagged with before now.Honor X30 5G

The X30 5G has a remarkably American connection with lots of its components coming from the United States. The X30 5G is a mid-ranger that was announced in December 2021. A breakdown of the X30 components was sighted in the Nikkei Asia Journal and pointed to an expected production cost of $217. According to the report, components manufactured in the US will account for 39% of the estimated production cost. Components produced in China were estimated to account for just 10%, according to the report.

Qualcomm, a US company produced the 5G modem and processor of the X30, while another US company Qorvo, supplied the communication processors of the smartphone. Japanese vendors also provided some key components in the Honor X30, which is estimated at 16%. The Japanese companies include TDK, Murata, Taiyo, Sony, and Yuden.

The seeming heavy reliance on foreign components for the Honor X30 could indicate sub-par components from China in some respect. On the whole, Honor could be on the path to a more global appeal beyond its presence in China.

Last week, Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Flip3 Pokemon Edition in South Korea. The device was finally launched yesterday and managed to sell out in mere minutes.

The Galaxy Z Flip3 Pokemon Edition debuted with a price tag of KRW 1,284,000 (around $1,040) and was made available to purchase from the 11th Street, Galaxy Campus Store, and Samsung’s online store.

Samsung included a lot of additional goodies in this bundle, like a Pikachu themed Clear Cover set with ring, a Pokedex-themed pouch, a Pikachu keychain, and a Pokeball 3D Grip Talk. What had earlier appeared to be Pokemon cards are now confirmed to be stickers instead. These feature five popular Pokemon‘s from Indigo Leagure, including Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Snorlax, and Mew.

Special edition smartphones like these are nothing new for Samsung as the brand has previously launched the Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Edition, Galaxy Edge S7 Injustice Edition, Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition and Galaxy Z Fold2 Thom Browne Edition.

The Galaxy Z Fold3 is currently sold out in and it is unclear if the brand plans to do a second run of these devices in South Korea. Samsung has also officially admitted that it is uncertain whether these devices will be made available in overseas markets like Europe and the US.
