Google Pixel Notepad foldable smartphone production kicks off in Q3 2022: Report

After their success in the premium segment with the Pixel 6 series smartphones, Google is said to be diversifying to capture the budding foldable smartphone market. We first heard of it in January that Google is working on a foldable dubbed the Pixel Notepad which will massively undercut the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 with an attractive price tag in the $1400 range.

Google Pixel Foldable Smartphone Render

Now, according to a NoteBookCheck report, tipster TheGalox_ has informed that the search giant will begin production of the Pixel Notepad foldable smartphone in Q3 2020. The device will debut after the launch of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold4 which will likely launch around August, creating a cheaper alternative in the foldable device segment for markets like the US where most Chinese companies don’t launch their products.

The tipster also states that Google remains committed to targeting the $1399 price point which is hard to fight against for Samsung as their current-gen Galaxy Z Fold3 devices go for $1799.

So far, Google Notepad is said to come powered by the company’s own Tensor (GS101) chipset, coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. It is said to have a downgraded camera setup compared to the Pixel 6 lineup.

The device will also feature a 12MP ultrawide sensor on the rear and can get two 8-megapixel front camera sensors on each the other display and the inner display.

New POCO duo makes trademark appearance, could be Redmi Note 12 rebrands

A couple of POCO phones are already in the pipeline currently including the POCO F4 and the POCO X4 5G, but a new trademark shows that more are on the way. As spotted by tipster Mukul Sharma, POCO is working on launching a duo with model numbers 22041216UG and 22041216G in India — and these were actually rumored to belong to the Redmi Note 12 series.

Not much is known about the Redmi Note 12 series as of now but a tipster did state that it’s set to launch in Q2 2022, meaning between April and June. Considering we’ve already reached March, we expect more info about the series to start surfacing soon.

Multiple models of the Chinese Redmi Note 12 series make their way to global markets as POCO rebrands, so it’s likely that both of the models mentioned in the trademarks will get treated the same. Both models also have very similar model numbers so it’s likely they’ll belong to the same lineup and have very similar specs.

POCO, on March 9th had shared a teaser video on Twitter with “Coz the mad don’t care!” alongside a “#MadeOfMAD is coming soon” in the caption. While it would be a stretch to think it referred to the aforementioned duo, there is no doubt that POCO is set to expand its lineup significantly in the next couple of months.

Currently, the most trending upcoming launch in India looks to be the POCO X4 Pro which is being continually teased by POCO.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Series update with fix for performance throttling rolling out in India

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series in India is receiving a new update that allows users to sort of disable the Game Optimization Service (GOS). The same update has already been rolled out in South Korea and Europe and it’s great to see Indian users getting treated to it as well.

The update, which comes with firmware version S90xEXXU1AVC9, is being rolled out to the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra (via Sammobile). It also carries the latest March 2022 security patch, along with improvements to camera stability and device security.

To disable GOS after installing the update, you need to open up the Game Launcher and then head over to More > Game Booster > Labs where you’ll need to turn on Alternate game performance management.

Samsung’s CEO had apologized for the GOS debacle yesterday saying that they would “listen to customers more closely to prevent such an issue from happening again.”

The issue had turned into quite the bad rep for the company, with negative response coming not only from users but also Geekbench removing the Galaxy S10, S20, S21, and S22 series from its benchmarking charts.

Samsung is also said to be prepping a similar update for older Galaxy flagship tablets and smartphones.

iPhone SE 2022 expected to sell just as much as 2020 model despite outdated design

Apple iPhone SE 2022 shipments are expected to be around 30 million units, which is about the same as its previous model’s 2020 shipments of 25-30 million units, according to estimates by Digitimes research analysts Sean Lin and Luke Lin.

The report says that Apple has already prepared less than 5 million components for the new iPhone SE in the first quarter of this year, but actual shipments will be lower than that number.

iphone se 2022 featured

However, shipments in the next quarter are expected to surge to 11 million units, with the third quarter seeing sales in similar numbers. The shipments will only start dropping from the fourth quarter to make way for the release of the next-generation iPhone 14.

The iPhone SE 2022 along with phone sales from Samsung and Chinese OEMs are expected to significantly boost 5G mobile phone shipments in non-Chinese markets in 2022.

In 2021, a total of about 280 million 5G mobile phones were shipped to markets outside of markets. This figure is expected to rise by more than 60% to 450 million units, accounting for 63.5% of global shipments.

But since 80% of phone shipments in China are already 5G models, shipments there are expected to achieve only single-digit YoY growth in 2022.

On the other hand, the North American and Western European hit 74 percent and 76 percent respectively in terms of 5G penetration.

In these two regions, Apple dominated with a market share of 30 percent in Western Europe and 50 percent in North America. This followed after the brand launched its 5G enabled iPhone 12 series. As of right now, these regions are expected to see continued growth for 5G models. Meanwhile, thanks to affordable chips from MediaTek and Qualcomm that support the newer and faster bandwidth helped grow the 5G Android smartphone market. This was especially true for the mid to high range segment between 250 to 400 US Dollars.

On the other hand, affordable chips enabled 150 to 250 US Dollars Android phones to also support 5G networking as well. The Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Latin America are now the next area of focus for OEMs that are seeking to expand their 5G offering to these regions. These are currently still dominated by 4G handsets, but will likely see a shift in the near future.

In terms of specs, Lenovo’s new generation of thin and light notebooks are expected to be equipped with 12th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 6000 processors. The new Lenovo YOGA laptops are expected to be released at the end of April and will be up for sale in China likely in early May.

The device on the listing has 8GB of RAM but will perhaps be sold in more RAM variants. Aside from this, the website doesn’t mention much about the device, although we should be seeing more information really soon in the form of leaks and official teasers as the launch date nears.

The Motorola Edge 30 has already been spotted on several certifications websites such as TRDA, EEC, and Wi-Fi Alliance so it might not be long before Motorola reveals its release date.

The device will succeed the Motorola Edge 20 that was launched in August last year, and it wouldn’t be wrong to use the older model as an indicator towards the specs to expect with the newer one.

The Motorola Edge 20 was powered by the Snapdragon 778G chip and had a 6.7-inch OLED display with a crazy high refresh rate of 144Hz. For photography, it got a 108MP+8MP+2MP setup at the rear while the front camera is a 32MP sensor. Its battery is sized 4,000mAh with support for 30W fast charging.
