Multiple leaked shots have revealed the appearance of the Google Pixel 3 XL smartphone. A fresh photo of the smartphone has surfaced today. The image shows a person using the alleged Pixel 3 XL traveling on a streetcar in Toronto.

The image of the phone contains several features that hint that it could be the real Pixel 3 XL smartphone. The handset is placed inside a thicker case in a bid to prevent others from identifying it.

The smartphone features a notched display and two front-facing speakers. The pill-shaped home button suggests that the handset is running on Android 9 Pie OS. The Pixel 3 XL is also expected to arrive with these features. Also, the handset appears to be very similar to the Pixel 3 XL that had appeared in a recent hands-on photos and following unboxing video.

Rumors have it that the Pixel 3 XL will be arriving with a 6.7-inch OLED screen. The newly spotted handset also seems to feature a large-sized screen. Now that the alleged Pixel 3 XL has been spotted in real skin, it appears that Google could be testing the handset to see it performs as a daily driver.

Rumors have it that the Pixel 3 XL will be featuring Snapdragon 845 SoC. The chipset will be accompanied by 4 GB of RAM. Along with Pixel 3, the Pixel 3 XL will be the first smartphones to come pre-installed with Android 9 Pie.

The massive display of the Pixel 3 XL is expected to carry support for Quad HD resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels. It is rumored to arrive with a single rear camera of 12-megapixel. The notch of the phone is likely to feature 8-megapixel selfie shooter. It is expected to come with an internal storage of 64 GB. Also, the Pixel 3 XL will be receiving power from 3,430mAh battery. As of this writing, there is no information on the pricing of the phone.

Xiaomi MIJIA Smart Rearview Mirror wins the German Red Dot Design Award 2018

Xiaomi‘s MIJIA smart rearview mirror has won the German Red Dot award for 2018 for its system interface design. The Red Dot Design Award is an international product design and communication design prize awarded by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. There are prize categories for product design, design agencies, and design concepts. Since 1955, designers and producers can apply for the prizes with the winners being presented in an annual ceremony.

The Mi Smart rearview mirror which was first launched in February last year and then an improved model with AI voice support was released earlier this year for same 999 yuan ($145). The new model also comes with an improved system interface design. It also comes with a 6.86-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280×480 pixels. There is also an improvement in the cooling system. An aerospace aluminium material is processed into the unique thermal wings to greatly increase the cooling efficiency.

The rearview mirror packs a Sony IMX291 image sensor that is capable of capturing images even in low light condition. This sensor uses 6 sets of full-glass spherical lenses with each of them having 9 layers of coating. It comes with a large aperture of f/1.8 and 150 ° large wide angle. The impressive hardware wasn’t what clinched the award for the MIJIA Rearview camera. Instead, it is the interface and in this regard, the device comes pre-installed with Advanced driver assistance systems, or ADAS which supports FCW (Forward Collision Warning), PVS (Preceding Vehicle Starting), and LDW (Lane Departure Warning). It will save the video before and after the collision. We can even watch the videos in the rearview mirror as well via a mobile APP in real time. The gadget also comes with an emergency wake-up system.

The rearview mirror is also integrated with the new Small Love AI speaker and so supports voice command. Besides simple operations such as increasing or decreasing the volume or capturing videos and photos, you can give ‘smart’ commands such as ‘I would like to go to the nearest airport’ or ‘play the latest song of Maroon 5’. By the way, this mirror has a huge amount of media resources including radio stations and music. Do note that this isn’t just in Chinese but it supports voice commands in English language. The smart rearview mirror can also connect to the Mi Home app such that users can control their connected home appliances directly from the car. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 pre-orders get lukewarm response in China

Samsung announced its flagship Galaxy Note 9 in China on August 15. Soon after, the Note 9 went up for pre-order on JD.com. Unlike other Chinese companies who allow free reservations on the site for sale, you had to pay 99 Yuan (~$14) in order to pre-order the device. Turns out, not many are willing to shell out the pre-order deposit for the new Note 9 on JingDong.

There are currently four variants of the Galaxy Note 9 on JD.com available for pre-order: 6+128GB storage option in three colors (Black, Blue, Copper) and 8+512GB option in one color (black). So far, the listing has received less than 1300 pre-orders for the device on the site. Considering the usual demand for a flagship like the Note series, this is definitely a lukewarm response from Chinese customers. The Frost Blue color seems to be the most pre-ordered variant on the site with over 500 registrations.

Samsung has been struggling in China in the past few years and this is yet another example of the company’s flagships failing to garner enough attention from customers in China. The Galaxy Note 9 is one of the most powerful handsets of 2018, however, apart from its innovative S Pen, the phone doesn’t have much to distinguish itself from the competition. Even Samsung’s variable aperture tech is coming on the upcoming OPPO R17 Pro flagship which is going to be much cheaper at launch.

Considering the hefty 6999 Yuan price tag for the Note 9, customers can go for a cheaper yet powerful option like the innovative full screen OPPO Find X (starts at 4999 Yuan ~$756) or the Huawei P20 Pro with triple cameras (starts at 4999 Yuan ~$756). Unless Samsung decides to slash down its price to somewhere near to its Chinese competitors, it will be tough for the Note 9 to do well in the highly competitive Chinese market.

Confirmed: Kirin 980 has Cortex-A76; Cortex-A77 rumors debunked

Multiple reports have claimed that the 7nm Kirin 980 SoC will be featuring ARM Cortex A77 CPU cores for performance coupled with Cortex A77 CPU cores for reliability. However, since well-known industry insiders such as Roland Quandt and Ice Universe have claimed that such reports are fake since Cortex A77 has not been announced yet. Today, GizmoChina has received an official confirmation from ARM that the Kirin 980 will be equipped with Cortex A76 and the “Cortex A77 does not exist.” This piece of information debunks all rumors that have claimed the Cortex A77 may get unveiled at IFA 2018 and it will end up inside Kirin 980.

In June, ARM had announced the Cortex A76 CPU as the successor for the Cortex A75. In comparison to its predecessor, the Cortex A76 promises 35 percent improvement in performance and offers 40 percent better power efficiency. And also, it delivers up to 4 times the existing performance in Machine Learning.

The HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset that was announced in September 2017 now powers more than 10 smartphones by Huawei. The Kirin 970 includes quad-core Cortex A73 CPU and quad-core Cortex A53 CPU. It also features Mali-G72 graphics and an AI NPU unit.

Huawei has recently rolled out a press release that the upcoming Mate 20 series will feature Kirin 980, but it did not confirm anything on its specifications. The SoC is expected to produce maximum clocking speeds of 2.8 GHz. The 7nm Kirin 980 will be soon rivaled by Apple A12 SoC that will be fueling the upcoming iPhones in September and 7nm Snapdragon 855 by Qualcomm that is rumored to go official by December.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S Emerald Green version is now available through open sale in China

Xiaomi recently announced a new version of its Mi MIX 2S smartphone — the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S Emerald Green. While the phone went on sale via flash sale on 14th August, the company has now announced that the phone is officially available for purchase in China without a flash sale.

However, the Jade Art Edition, which comes with a different wallpaper and packaging, is still out of stock after it first went on sale on 14th August. Xiaomi partnered with Dunhuang Research Institue to jointly develop this new Mi MIX 2S Emerald Green variant. The company says that it was inspired by the natural gemstone color of the Dunhuang murals.

Apart from the changes in the phone’s design, there’s nothing different compared to the standard model. It features a 5.99-inch IPS LCD Full Screen 2.0 display that offers a screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, 18:9 aspect ratio and carries support for DCI-P3 color gamut.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE). The Emerald Green variant of the Mi MIX 2S packs 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

The Mi MIX 2S, launched earlier this year, is the first phone in the series to feature a vertically aligned dual camera setup. It boasts a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 wide-angle lens with f/1.8 aperture as the primary sensor, which is coupled with a 12-megapixel secondary telephoto lens that carries support for 2x optical zoom. There’s an 8-megapixel selfie camera with artificial intelligence features.

The device also comes with support for Face Unlock feature. There’s also a fingerprint reader on the back panel for added security. The connectivity features available on the device include dual-SIM, USB-C, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and NFC.

It comes with built-in AI-based voice assistant. Running on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with the company’s own MIUI 10, the handset is fuelled by a 3,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support.

OPPO to launch Helio P80, P90 and Snapdragon 855 phones, reveals leakster

After attaining popularity in China in the recent years, OPPO gained worldwide recognition with the Find X flagship phone that comes with advanced 3D facial recognition feature and enticing design. Recent rumors have revealed that the Snapdragon 855 that will be powering the 2019 Android flagship phones will be built by TSMC through 7nm manufacturing process. Previous reports have revealed that the Snapdragon 855 SoC will be integrated with X50 5G baseband. Hence, SD855 phones will carry support for 5G connectivity. Various smartphone manufacturers including OPPO are gearing up to launch 5G enabled phones in 2019.

The rumor mill is yet to reveal details on the OPPO’s SD855 powered smartphone. Probably, it could be the successor phone for OPPO Find X that features Snapdragon 845 SoC.

The Snapdragon 855 mobile platform is rumored to go official by the end of this year. However, Quandt claims that Qualcomm is considering a new naming scheme for it. The tipster has speculated that the reason behind it could be that the U.S. based chip maker want to differentiate chips designed for mobile from the ones that power PCs. For instance, 2018 Android phones are fueled by Snapdragon 845 whereas similar sounding Snapdragon 850 will be forthcoming 2-in-1 PCs. Earlier this year, ASUS and HP had released Snapdragon 835 powered laptops. It is the very same chip that powered flagship phones in 2017.

Hence, it will be a good decision to use different names for chips designed for PCs and smartphones/tablets. Quandt had previously revealed that Qualcomm is working on a more powerful Snapdragon 1000 chipset for forthcoming thin-sized laptops. The tipster is now claiming that the SD1000 will be also arriving with a new name.

The Snapdragon 855 is expected to go official by the end of this year. The 7nm chipset will feature ARM Cortex A76 which offers 35 percent improved performance and consumes 40 percent less power. Motorola One spotted on GeekBench packing a Snapdragon 625 CPU

Lenovo-owned Motorola brand recently launched the Moto P30 in China with a design that deviates from all known styles of the company. The Moto One came with a notch screen design just like the iPhone X and there are several features that bears semblance with that of Apple’s phones. Unfortunately, the Moto P30 will be sold exclusively in China. However, the device is suspected of hitting the global market as Motorola One and a more powerful variant dubbed Motorola One Power.

The Motorola One has now been spotted on benchmark database Geekbench confirming some of its specs, although unofficially. Among the specs listing is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 CPU paired with 4GB of RAM. In addition, the device on benchmark runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. The models are believed to be launched under Google’s Android One programme so, are expected to get Android 9.0 Pie right from the go or get upgraded to Android Pie at the earliest possible time.

Aside these few specs, Geekbench only gave us the benchmark score of the Motorola One which is basically a Snapdragon 625-grade score. That is 876 points on the single core test and 4299 on the multi-core test. We won’t have to dig too deep for other specs as the device was recently certified by China’s telecoms regulatory agency (TENAA). From the TENAA listing we expect the Motorola One to pack a 6.18-inch display with a resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels. It also has a 19: 9 aspect ratio as a result of the notch.

There is still no word yet on its launch but since the Moto P30 has been launched in China, we expect the Motorola One to join the fray any moment from now.
