Smartisan has announced its first smartphone of the year today. The Smartisan Nut 3 (U3) was unveiled at an event in Beijing and its specs and price put it firmly in the mid-range category.

Smartisan Nut 3 Design

Smartisan has settled for a new full-screen design for the Nut 3. Unlike the Nut Pro 2 which still has a bezel at the top, it is scraped off on the Nut 3 to give it a tri-bezel-less design.

This new design means the front camera gets a new home and Smartisan has placed it just a few millimeters from the front-mounted fingerprint scanner. Yes, the fingerprint scanner is now in front and not under the logo on the rear.

The rear of the phone is covered in glass just like the front. There are dual cameras at the top left corner with a dual LED flash flanking it on the left. Sitting in the middle is the Smartisan Hammer logo and at the bottom is the manufacturer’s name.

The unique circular physical buttons have not been changed and retain their position. There is another key on the left that can be customized as you wish.

The design is impressive and just like their previous releases from last year, the red is a personal favorite. However, the highlight of the design is that even with a thickness of just 7.16mm, the Nut 3 packs a 4,000mAh battery.

Smartisan Nut 3 Specs

The Smartisan Nut 3 has a 5.99” in-cell display with a 2160 x 1080 resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and comes with 4GB of RAM with 32GB/64GB/128GB of storage.

There are dual 13MP sensors on the rear with support for bokeh images and AI-supported noise reduction. It also has an 8MP selfie camera with a number of beauty effects.

The Smartisan Nut 3 has a hybrid dual SIM slot (nano only, 128GB max.). It is missing a 3.5mm audio jack but has a USB-C. There is a fingerprint scanner that supports WeChat and AliPay payments and can save up to 10 fingerprints. It also has support for Face Unlock.

The Nut 3 packs a 4,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0. There is Bluetooth 4.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, but no NFC.

Smartisan says the phone runs Smartisan OS 4.x but doesn’t mention the version of Android. However, a leaked photo from yesterday revealed that it runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat.

The new OS brings a number of new features such as scene recognition for the camera and a bunch of other new features.

AnTuTu’s list of top 10 best performance Android phones for February month revealing that the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Honor V10 ranked at the top 3 positions. Rumors are rife that the Kirin 980 chipset will be powering the upcoming Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones. Two snapshots showing the appearance of Huawei Mate 20 at AnTuTu have surfaced on Weibo. The AnTuTu listing reveals that the smartphone has recorded a remarkable average benchmarking score of 356,819.

The AnTuTu listing of Mate 20 has not revealed any of its specifications. However, the other image shows that the upcoming Huawei flagship has dethroned Mate 10 from its number spot. The Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Honor V10 have respective AnTuTu scores of 214,750, 214707 and 213,758. The Kirin 980 powered by Mate 20 is the first phone to have crossed the average benchmarking score of 350,000+ mark on AnTuTu.

Recent reports have revealed very few details of the Kirin 980. It is speculated that TSMC will begin its mass production in this quarter and it will be made through the 7nm manufacturing process. Rumors have it that it includes Cortex A75 cores and it also features a next-generation NPU unit for AI. The presence of Kirin 980 in Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and other forthcoming flagships are expected to bring support for Bluetooth 5.0.

Leaked information has revealed that the Mate 20 will be featuring a 5.9-inch QHD resolution supporting 16:9 display whereas its Pro edition will be packed with 6-inch FHD+ 18:9 display. Both the smartphones will be equipped with 4 GB and 6 GB of RAM that will respectively feature 64 GB and 128 GB of storage.

The 6 GB RAM + 256 GB storage is rumored to be exclusively with Mate 20 Pro. The Mate 20 duo may feature 20-megapixel + 12-megapixel dual camera setup. These phones are rumored to be equipped with under display fingerprint sensor. The Mate 20 series are expected to break cover in October this year.

Huawei‘s sub-brand Honor has already scheduled a launch event on 19th April, where the company will be launching its new smartphone — Honor 10. Now, ahead of the official launch of the smartphone, live images have leaked online, giving us a clear look at the phone’s design.

The leaked images show that the phone will come with a full-screen display, similar to what we saw on the recently launched Huawei P20 lineup. In a poster of the phone, the company claimed that the Honor 10’s display offers 100 percent screen-to-body ratio which sounds too good to be true.

On the back panel, there’s a dual camera setup placed in the top-left corner along with an LED flash. The back panel of the phone is speculated to have been made out of 3D glass. The newly surfaced images also show the gradient back panel of the phone, suggesting that the company is focusing on the youths for this particular smartphone.

A few days ago, the posters of the Honor 10 surfaced on Weibo in which the handset was seen in the hands of the popular Chinese actor and singer Hu Ge. Previous leaks related to the phone showed that it will come with a notched display and a home button on the bottom which will act as a fingerprint sensor.

According to the previous reports, the smartphone could be powered by the company’s own Kirin 970 chipset. It’s the same processor that powers the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro smartphones. The phone is expected to feature a 5.8-inch display and will pack 6GB RAM. The high-end variant of the phone will come with 256GB of internal storage.

The phone’s camera will come with the artificial intelligence technology to help improve the captured images. Black Shark gaming smartphone will be unveiled on Friday. The Xiaomi-backed firm has claimed that the Black Shark phone will be the first real smartphone that has been designed for gaming. In the recent past, the rumor mill had leaked some images of the Black Shark phone. However, the company immediately confirmed that those images are fake. Today, a new image of the Black Shark phone has appeared on Weibo to reveal the appearance of its rear panel.

The above shows the rear view of the real Black Shark phone. Its top portion seems to be attached with a removable Bluetooth handle that may feature an analogue joystick and cross keys. An official teaser from the company also confirms that it may come with support for attachable Bluetooth handle. This reminds of the Nintendo Switch gaming console that featured removable game controllers on both sides on a 7-inch screen.

The leaked photo of the Black Shark gaming shows that it will be featuring horizontally arranged dual camera setup that is accompanied by an LED flash. The Black Shark logo is present towards the center of the back panel. Since the fingerprint scanner is missing from the rear, it seems to be placed below the 18:9 aspect ratio display at the front.

A previous report had revealed that it will be equipped with “X” antenna design to prevent the users from covering the antenna with their palms while enjoying games on it. A sketch of the phone that shows placement of receivers for GPS, Wi-Fi, dual 4G LTE and Wi-Fi MIMO at its corners resembles with the rear design that has been revealed in the new photo.

The Black Shark gaming is expected to arrive with a high refresh rate enabled OLED screen. The Snapdragon 845 SoC will be present under its hood. It is speculated to arrive in 128 GB and 256 GB storage variants that will respectively feature 6 GB and 8 GB of RAM. It will be running on Android 8.0 Oreo based custom ROM, but it will include some of the core features of the MIUI.

OnePlus 6 Front Design Fully Exposed in New Leak; Reveals Massive Screen Space

OnePlus CEO Carl Pei had shared the first official image of the upcoming OnePlus 6 flagship phone at the end of the previous month. The image had revealed only a small portion of the notched area of the screen. Since then the rumor mill have been claiming that the OnePlus 6 may resemble the recently unveiled OPPO R15 smartphone from the front. Today, a new image showing the entire front design of the OnePlus 6 has appeared on Weibo. The image features a logo of DxO Mark, the popular camera benchmarking platform.

As it can be seen in the above image, the front side of the OnePlus 6 is mainly occupied by the screen. The side bezels are thin and its chin is slightly thick. The notch features the LED notification indicator, a selfie camera and an earpiece. The “see you soon” text present at the bottom is yet another hint that suggests that OnePlus 6’s arrival is close at hand.

The handset shown in the new render resembles with the leaked images of the OnePlus 6 that have appeared in the recent past. Even though the image appears legitimate since it seems to have come from OnePlus, it cannot be found on the website of DxOMark and OnePlus.

Pei had recently claimed that the appearance of the OnePlus 6 will be different from OPPO R15. However, the above image shows that the upcoming OnePlus flagship indeed resembles the OPPO R15. Like the OPPO phone, the OnePlus 6’s screen is likely to 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. Hence, it will be the first phone from the company to offer such a huge screen space. For people who dislike notched display, the company has already confirmed that it will be releasing a software update to hide the notch.

The Chinese manufacturer has already revealed that the Snapdragon 845 chipset, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage will be available on the OnePlus 6. This model is likely to cost 4,399 Yuan (~$697). It is also expected to arrive in variants like 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. These models are rumored to respectively cost 3,299 Yuan (~$523) and 3,799 Yuan (~$570).

Since the company has released a couple of teasers of the smartphone, it is speculated that the OnePlus 6 smartphone may get unveiled by the end of this month.

Also, every country-specific website of OnePlus is now on the oneplus.com domain, except for the Indian website where the company is still using the oneplus.in domain. All other properties of OnePlus, including the online store, support, and forum, have also been migrated to this new domain.

OnePlus believes that migrating to the oneplus.com domain name for all the regions will help in protecting its fans/users from websites that pose as the regional variant of the official website. Samsung Completes 7nm Process Development 6 Months Early, May Be Used on Snapdragon 855

Just when we thought Taiwanese chip maker TSMC had snatched the 7nm-based Snapdragon 855 chip orders from Samsung, there is another news to counter that. A new report has emerged that Samsung has finished the development of 7nm manufacturing technology six months ahead of schedule and the development process could be used for the next Qualcomm flagship mobile phone chip, the Snapdragon 855.

Barely two months ago, it was reported that TSMC may snatch the manufacture of the Snapdragon 855 chip from Samsung as a result of its slow adoption of the manufacturing technology. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chip is expected to be built on a 7nm manufacturing process and is fabricated using extreme ultraviolet exposure equipment (EUV). The new manufacturing process is expected to bring a big improvement in battery life and output of the chipset.

Samsung Electronics is expected to start manufacturing the new Snapdragon 855 system chip late this year with bigger volumes scheduled for early next year. Originally, the development of the new technology was expected to be completed in the second half of this year, but itis coming six months ahead of schedule which is great.

Xiaomi Launches Wall-mounted Smartmi Fresh Air System Priced At ¥1499 (~$237)

Xiaomi‘s eco-system company Smartmi, best known for the Mi Air Purifiers, has launched the Smartmi Fresh Air system. The new crowdfunding product comes with a price tag of 1,499 Yuan ($237). The main feature of the new air system is its high air volume which provides new oxygen and is effective against the removal of moth. The gadget also comes with a silent operation which saves energy.

The Smartmi Fresh Air system comes with design that can be mounted on the wall. The device has an air volume of 220m3/h and will be effective in a room size ranging from 8 – 50 square metres. The Smartmi Fresh Air system removes harmful particles and gases from the air and delivers fresh and clean air rich in oxygen. The Smartmi Fresh Air system works best when the windows and air vents in the room are opened. In that way, the air system purifies the air entering the room through multiple filters.

Talking about the design, the Smartmi Fresh Air System uses a large diameter centrifugal fan which faces forward. The high-speed rotation of the fan creates a powerful driving force which forces the impurities in the air out through the room’s ventilation points. The fan uses a brushless DC motor imported from Japan with a large torque in order to form a large new wind force. The motor spins without much noise, thus ensuring a quiet atmosphere while it is working. The Fresh air system also uses triple filtration to quickly filter PM2.5 and fine particles. The device does not have physical buttons but there is a touchscreen LCD display through which the gadget is controlled.

The Xiaomi Smartmi Fresh Air System is presently available on the Xiaomi Youpin website for funding. The product is expected to start shipping on April 10.

HTC U12 Has No Notch In New Renders Featuring Horizontal Dual Cameras

The number of smartphones manufacturers embracing the notch for its flagships is growing every day. But it seems that HTC is not going to follow the trend launched by Apple with its iPhone X. According to new leaked renders, even though the Taiwanese company is suffering a financial decline, it will keep adopting an original design scheme for its upcoming flagship: HTC U12. Indeed, the renders show a device with a bezel-less display but without an iPhone X-like notch on the upper part, unlike the newly-announced Huawei P20 and P20 Pro.

Due to this decision, the screen-to-body ratio of HTC U12 will probably be lower than iPhone X. The back side will be made of glass and it will remind of the predecessor U11 Plus, but there will be several differences. Unlike the previous model, this new one will sport a dual camera setup placed at the center of the glass back in a horizontal configuration. At the left side of the dual camera setup, there will be a laser autofocus, while under the dual camera there will be a flash LED and a circular fingerprint reader.

So, the flagship will probably not have a fingerprint scanner embedded in the display (unlike some of the most recent high-end devices like Vivo X21 UD and Huawei Mate RS). A dual camera is present even on the front panel, so expect a great bokeh effect even in selfies. HTC U12 will probably come with a 5.5-inch display showing images at a Quad HD+ 1440p resolution. On the hardware side, it is expected to sport an octa-core Snapdragon 845 SoC by Qualcomm, up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The dual rear camera should have resolutions of 16 + 12 MP, while the selfie cameras should have 12 and 8 MP resolutions.

Leaked Photos Show The Smartisan Nut 3 in Black, Red, & White; SD625 Confirmed

The Smartisan Nut 3 is due to launch tomorrow. Ahead of the event, live photos of the phone have surfaced online. These photos not only give us a look at the phone but also confirm a few specifications.

For the Nut 3, Smartisan is going for a new design. The bezels have been shaved off at the top and bottom but there is a twist. Smartisan has added another thick slab just below the display. This slab is demarcated from the rest of the phone by a thin line and is home to the fingerprint scanner and front camera. We’ll leave the debate of the position of the camera to you.

There are photos that show the Smartisan Nut 3 in black (surprisingly with thicker bezels) and red. However, none of them show the rear of the phone. There are even photos of the retail box for the red variant and the box is actually red too. So, it is safe to assume that each color variant will come with a matching box.

In one of the photos, the phone’s about section is visible and it reveals a few of the specs. The Smartisan 3 will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It is powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8953 a.k.a. Snapdragon 625 and it runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat.

Xiaomi To Launch Two Snapdragon 670 Phones Code-named Sirius and Comet

The Snapdragon 670 has not been officially unveiled yet. However, there are rumors a phone from 360 Mobiles will be the first to launch with the chip. New reports say Xiaomi also has two phones in the pipeline that will be powered by the processor.

The info comes from the editor-in-chief of XDA Developers, Mishaal Rahman. In a tweet posted last night, he said that the Chinese giant has two devices powered by the Snapdragon 670 in development. He adds that the phones are codenamed “Comet” and “Sirius”.

Xiaomi has (at least) 2 devices with the unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 (sdm670) in the works: "comet" and "sirius".

Also confirms @rquandt's report which showed sdm670's little cluster has 6 cores and the big cluster has 2 cores. (targetconfig.xml in /vendor/etc/perf).

If we were to take a wild guess we would say one of the two phones is the Mi Note 4. This makes sense since the Mi Note 3 is powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor. For the second phone, our guess is the Mi Max 3 but that is a long shot. Notwithstanding, the release of both phones are probably still months away, so there is enough time to find out if our guesses are correct.

Apart from the codenames for the two phones, it is also revealed that it has been confirmed that the Snapdragon 670 indeed has a 2+6 CPU core arrangement.

OPPO Creates Research Institute To Develop AI and 5G Technology

Churning out great phones that are competitively priced isn’t the only thing a phone manufacturer should do. Research and Development (R&D) is also an important aspect. Not only do you get to make better phones, but you can also license your technology to others.

OPPO is known for its focus on research and it has decided to take it a level higher by establishing a research and development institute with branches across the globe.

A report from Chinese media iFeng.com, says the headquarters of the OPPO Research Institute will be based in Shenzhen with branches in Beijing, Shanghai, Dongguan, Yokohama (Japan), and Silicon Valley (US). The institute will focus on three things – software, hardware, and standards. It will also conduct research on 5G, AI, image processing, and the use of new materials.

There was an official opening ceremony of the institute on March 29. In attendance, were the CEO Chen Mingyong, and senior vice president Zeng Yuanqing. It was also announced that the dean of the institute will be Mr. Liu Chang.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro And Mi Note 2 Get The Official TWRP Support

If you are bored of MIUI installed on your Xiaomi device, there are two most important ways to customize the software: installing a launcher or installing a custom ROM. If you prefer the second option and you own a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro or a Mi Note 2, you will be glad to know that the two handsets have just received the official TWRP support.

TWRP is the most famous recovery mode which is mainly used to install custom ROMs on every Android handset. Starting from now, it is possible to flash it on Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Xiaomi Mi Note 2 just like on the other supported Android devices. Besides Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Xiaomi Mi Note 2, two more devices have just received the official support to TWRP.
