iPhone 8 Plus Users Experiencing Crackling Noise Issues While Making and Receiving Calls

Early buyers of Apple iPhone 8 Plus have claimed that they are hearing crackling noises while making and receiving calls. On Friday, a forum member of MacRumors had created a thread to discuss on the cracking noise issue that he has been facing on his iPhone 8 Plus. Since then a number of iPhone 8 Plus users from the U.S., Australia and Europe have expressed on the thread that they are also facing the same issue.

The crackling noise can be heard through the earpiece of iPhone 8 Plus only while making or receiving a phone call. However, the problem does not occur when headphones are connected or if the speakerphone feature is enabled. This indicates that it may not be a earpiece or speaker related hardware.

If it is a hardware issue, the crackling noise would have been heard even while using the speaker phone. The problem is not even associated with network carriers as the crackling noise can be heard while using FaceTime. Hence, it appears that it could be a software related problem.

It has been also found that the crackling noise occurs even when Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE and noise cancelling are enabled or disabled. The support team of Apple is aware of the issue and they have suggested users to fix the issue by performing factory reset and use iCloud backup to carry out the setup again. However, some users are still experiencing the problem even after resetting their iPhone 8 Plus.

Users who have tried exchanging their iPhone 8 Plus after experiencing the issue are still encountering the same problem on the exchanged handsets. The Cupertino company is aware of the problem and is reportedly working on a fix for the issue. If it is a software issue, the problem is likely to get resolved through an upcoming update.

iPhone 8 Plus Camera Clinches Record As DxOMark’s Highest Rated Phone Camera

DxOMark has just released its latest ratings and revise their testing procedure in order to accommodate modern smartphone camera features. As a result of the update, Apple has once again emerged as the King of Smartphone Cameras with the iPhone 8 Plus currently occupying the top spot on DxOMark’s rating. The iPhone 8 Plus is closely followed by its contemporary- the iPhone 8. DxOMark is a website providing image quality ratings for standalone cameras, lenses, and mobile devices that include cameras. It is owned by DxO Labs.iphone 8 plus

It would be recalled that the iPhone 8 comes with a single camera while the iPhone 8 Plus comes with dual rear cameras. This is why the 8 Plus scored higher because DxOMark’s new metrics now take into account features like bokeh, zoom, and more, some of which are not present in the smaller iPhone 8 or 7 models also with a single rear camera. That notwithstanding, the iPhone 8 still managed to floor all other smartphones released so far this year.

The iPhone 8 Plus with its dual cameras particularly stood out in its Zoom and Bokeh features. It also performs creditably in the area of HDR and video where it is tied at the same score with the HTC U11. As stated, this is a new scoring system and so only a few smartphones have been tested using the system but all the top models tested so far fall behind the iPhone 8 Plus. DxOMark is yet to test the Galaxy Note 8’s camera and the Google Pixel which had been at the top of the chats before now is yet to be tested using this new system.  Another model which may challenge the iPhone 8 Plus anytime soon is the Google Pixel 2 which would be launched next week. We’ll wait to see if Google can do a better job on its flagship’s camera.

Samsung Working On New Exynos Chips With Dedicated AI Processing Cores

The Huawei Kirin 970 is the first chip with a dedicated NPU (neural processing unit) for AI related tasks. Apple’s new iPhones are powered by the A11 Bionic which has a neural engine for machine learning tasks. Samsung is already behind as its Exynos 8895 doesn’t have any of the above mentioned features, so it is working on new chips that will fill this gap.

Samsung Exynos 8895

According to a source from Samsung’s partners who spoke to Korea Herald, “(Samsung) is in the middle of developing several types of chips that will be capable of processing massive data from AI applications on devices, eliminating the need to communicate with cloud servers”.

The advantage of having a dedicated processing unit for data processing is that data used by AI apps do not need to be stored in the cloud. They can be stored locally and accessed faster, with improvements in performance reaching up to 50%.

Samsung itself has officially mentioned that its chips will have Neural Processing Units. Speaking at a forum, the president of its semiconductor arm, Kim Ki-nam said “the existing central processing unit and graphic processing unit chips make it hard to achieve efficiency in AI computing. The NPU will help address the efficiency challenge. However, NPUs so far have storage capacities that are equivalent to a thousandth of a human brain.”

Gionee Steel 2 Plus Launches With 18:9 Display, 5000mAh Battery and Snapdragon 435 SoC

Think the Gionee M7 is expensive? Then you may want to check out the Gionee Steel 2 Plus, the second 18:9 FullView display smartphone announced today by the Chinese manufacturer.

Gionee Steel 2 Plus

The Gionee Steel 2 Plus is a successor to the Steel 2 released in January. The Plus variant is a big upgrade in all aspects. The specs of the phone may look familiar and that is because the Gionee Steel 2 Plus is the Gionee GN5007 seen on TENAA a few days ago.

Gionee Steel 2 Plus Specs

The Steel 2 Plus packs a 6-inch 18:9 FullView display too but with a HD+ resolution. It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage compared to the 3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB of the Steel 2. It also swaps the MediaTek MT6737 SoC for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor.

Its rear camera is a single 13MP sensor with a circular LED flash on the right. Front camera has also been upgraded to an 8MP sensor. Another key upgrade is the addition of a fingerprint scanner, although it sits at the back of the device.

The Gionee Steel 2 packs a 4,000mAh battery which is more than sufficient for a 5-inch HD phone. The Steel 2 Plus pushes it to 5,000mAh to complement the bigger 6.0-inch HD+ screen.

Huawei Mate 9 With Android 8.0 Oreo Seen On Geekbench

Owners of the Mate 9 may soon receive an update to Android 8.0 Oreo. The smartphone was seen on Geekbench a few days ago running the latest version of Android.

Benchmarked as the Huawei MHA, where MHA is short for Manhattan, the Mate 9’s codename before its release last year. The Mate 9 is shown to be powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 1.84GHz and has 4GB of RAM.

This is not the first mention of the Mate 9 running Android. Back in April, it was reported that the company was testing an Android O build for the phone. An image of a Chinese variant of the phone was posted online that showed it running a new software build.

Samsung Galaxy A (2018) Rumoured To Feature A Dedicated Bixby Button

Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy A (2018) series towards the end of this year or early next year. While the series still remains a mid-range series, there is a new rumour in town that the A (2018) series might see a slight modification in their designs with the inclusion of a dedicated Bixby button.

Samsung Galaxy A5 2016
Samsung Galaxy A5 2016

This was made known by a Weibo leaker and re-echoes earlier revelation that Samsung will be extending the Bixby feature to its mid-range smartphones. The Galaxy J7+ was earlier rumoured to have a Bixby button with limited functions, same for the Galaxy C8. Since Samsung has said that Bixby will arrive on more devices in the future, the rumour gains some credibility but we can’t pinpoint which of the Galaxy A(2018) models would have a Bixby button and can’t say for sure if this rumour is 100% credible. Apart from the voice assistant, the Galaxy A (2018) has been tipped to feature an Infinity Display and at least one model might have a dual camera system.

Bixby was first introduced on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones but it wasn’t until several months later before it became functional. The service is now available in over 200 countries including India and was recently introduced on the Galaxy Note 8 phablet. Samsung just tackled the challenge which slowed down the rollout of Bixby on its phones so, we believe the company is right on schedule with its plans to expand Bixby. The tech giant even plans to expand Bixby features to its smart home gadgets and wearables in the near future and is rumoured to be working on a Smart speaker that would have the Bixby Voice Assistant.

LG Display Showcases Flexible OLED Lamps That Can Last For More Than 13 Years!

LG Displays have showcased its latest thin, flexible, long-lasting OLED lights at the recent London DesignJunction show. The flexibility gives room for cool lamp designs. LG Display is well-renowned for its OLED screens which are used on some of the most high-tech televisions as well as the latest LGV30. LG also supplies flexible OLED panels to other smartphone manufacturers. The tech giant also utilizes the OLED technology in lighting and first showcased its OLED lamp in 2014 but the technology has greatly improved since then.lg flexible lights

The lamps functions like single OLED pixels ripped from your OLED screen and then enlarged many times over. Since the flexible property is retained, the lamp thus provides a beautiful soft light in a flexible style. The lighting is produced using a fifth-gen production process while the previous models were manufactured using second-gen production lines. lg flexible oled display

The flexible OLED lamps come with an ultra-thin plastic body and will be available in three different light panel styles. There is a square version and two oblong-shaped versions having varying lengths. All versions come with a higher wattage than the 2014 version and their shelf life have been greatly improved as well. LG claims the oblong versions will work for between 30,000 and 40,000 hours before the light deteriorates to the point where it can’t be used. If the light is used for at least 10 hours daily, the time range translates to more than 13 years of use at ten hours a day. The flexible LED lights also come with an adjustable color temperature which can be adjusted to suit the environment, time of day, or use.LG Flexible OLED Display

The use of the LG flexible OLED lamps offers so many opportunities in the aspect of creative light designs. Apart from its uses in homes, LG Display is working with car manufacturers to incorporate red and amber versions into tail lamps. The lights will only be ready for mass production early next year.

Gionee M7

Gionee M7 Design

The Gionee M7, as revealed in an early leak features a brushed metal back with concentric circles that originate from the fingerprint scanner. Dual rear cameras are positioned horizontally at the top left corner and are slightly raised.

The front is where the action is. The bezels have been greatly reduced to allow for the massive 6.01-inch FullView display. The top bezel still holds the selfie camera, a sensor, and the earpiece; while the bottom bezel has the Gionee logo. Gionee finishes the design with sandblasted sides.

Gionee M7 Specs

The Gionee M7 has a 6.01 FHD+ AMOLED display with a 2160 x 1080 resolution and an 18:9 screen ratio. The screen accounts for 85% of the front of the phone thanks to the smaller bezels.

The Gionee M7 is the first smartphone to come with the Helio P30 processor announced last month. The 2.3GHz 16nm octa-core chip is paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Gionee says there are also two security chips in the phone – one for mobile payment and the other for data protection.

Gionee M7 cameras

Just like the Gionee S10, the M7 features dual rear cameras. One is a 16MP  f/1.8 sensor and the other is an 8MP sensor for capturing depth of field information for portrait images. The rear camera can also take 3D images and has improved multi-frame noise reduction. The selfie camera is also an 8MP sensor.

The Gionee M7 doesn’t end there. For the big screen, Gionee has managed to squeeze in a 4000mAh battery into the 7.2mm body. Users will be able to get up to 43 hours of call usage, 21 hours of video playback, and 123 hours of music playback. The phone also supports 9V/2A fast charge so you can refill the battery in the shortest time possible.

A Future Redmi Phone Will Launch With An 18:9 Display

The major trend this year has been smartphones with 18:9 displays. First made popular by the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8 (18.5:9), the last few months have seen some entry level and mid-range smartphones with the same display come out of China.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Sporting An 18:9 Display
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Sporting An 18:9 Display

While the mid-range smartphones with full screen displays like the Vivo X20 and X20 Plus are priced high, a large number of the entry-level ones in the market are clones. And since none of the big names have released an affordable phone with a full-screen display, those who can’t afford the pricier ones have to wait. But they may not have to wait for long as there is a rumor that a future Redmi phone will have an 18:9 screen. Before we dive into the details, let’s brief you on what led to the reveal.

The Xiaomi MIX 2 is actually the second Xiaomi phone with a bezel-less design. Initially, the display was said to have been supplied by LG, but it has been discovered that some screens are from JDI too. A Weibo user had mentioned that some displays are from Tianma, a China-based maker, but popular analyst, Pan Jiutang said the Mi MIX 2 doesn’t have and will not use a display from Tianma.

However, a representative of the domestic screen manufacturer revealed that the company is making 18:9 displays which is expected to appear in a new generation Redmi phone. The Redmi phone is still unspecified but the guess is it’s probably the Redmi Note 5 or at most the Redmi Note 6.

Xiaomi has announced the Redmi Note 5A and may soon announce the Redmi 5 Plus (and Redmi 5). The Redmi Note 5 may be released much later so as to get supply for the new 18:9 displays.

VKWorld S8 Arriving in October with 18:9 Full Screen Design and Super-Slim Bezels, 5,000mAh Battery

VKWorld is prepping up to launch new smartphones during the upcoming holiday season. The three rumored smartphones from the company are VKWorld Mix, T2 Plus and S8. Several details of the VKWorld S8 have already surfaced.

The VKWorld S8 is expected to feature a full screen design that will be supporting an aspect ratio of 18:9. However, the exact size and resolution of its display are not known.

The company claims that the screen of the VKWorld S8 is different from the other clones of Samsung Galaxy S8 as it features very thin bezels. Its top bezel is of 3.2mm only which houses an earpiece, light sensor and proximity sensor. The left and right bezels are even slimmer as they measure only 1mm. It seems that VKWorld S8 would be probably sporting the thinnest bezel in smartphones.

None of the full screen smartphones that have released so far feature large-sized batteries. The VKWorld S8 could be the first full screen phone to arrive with a mammoth battery of 5,000mAh capacity. It is Li-Po battery built by Sony. Li-Po batteries are said to be safer and durable than Li-ion batteries.

With minimal use, the battery is expected to last for 3 days and with normal use, users will be able to use the handset for 2 days. The huge battery of the VKWorld S8 will be complemented by MediaTek’s PumpExpress fast charging feature. The handset will be carrying support for 12V/2A fast charging.

Hisense A2 Pro Packing a 5.5-inch AMOLED & 5.2-inch e-ink Secondary Display Launched

Whenever there is a discussion about dual screen phones, what readily comes to mind is the Yotaphone series. Although Meizu utilized the same design on its latest flagship Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus, there are marked differences like the smaller-sized secondary display and the use of OLED on the rear instead of e-ink display panel. What you probably don’t know is that Chinese electronics manufacturer Hisense has got a phone with a screen design similar to Yotaphone. Hisense A2 has been in the market priced around 2,599 Yuan but the tech company has just unveiled its latest model dubbed Hisense A2 Pro. Hisense A2 Pro

The Hisense A2 Pro features a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass at the front while there is a 5.2-inch e-ink display at the rear just like the latest Yota 3. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor backed by 4GB of RAM and there is 64GB of storage onboard. On the camera end, the device packs a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor at the rear which should team up properly with the powerful processor to deliver a nice picture quality. Nokia 2 Likely to Launch in November; May Arrive with New Nokia Phone

Nokia 2 that is still under the wraps is rumored to arrive as the cheapest smartphone from HMD Global. A screenshot showing a conversation between a fan and a representative from Nokia Myanmar has revealed that the Nokia 2 will be arriving in Myanmar in November.

Nokia 2 is rumored to arrive in two chipset models. Some markets are expected to get the Snapdragon 212 / 210 model whereas others are pegged to get MediaTek variant. There is no confirmation on which variant would be arriving in Myanmar.

Since the legitimacy of the above the screenshot cannot be confirmed, it can’t be said that the handset would be indeed arriving in November in Myanmar and other markets. It is also speculated that the Nokia 2 may get unveiled on Oct. 5 as a leaked render of the phone had carried the date on its screen.

Previous reports have revealed that the Nokia 2 would be arriving with a 5-inch display that would be supporting an HD resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixel. The SoC of the smartphone is speculated to be supported by 1 GB of RAM. It is expected to house a 4,000mAh battery.

The Nokia 2 is expected to feature an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. Since the smartphone has been certified by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S., it seems that its arrival is close at hand.

In related news, two new Nokia smartphones with model numbers TA-1041 and TA-1042 have received 3C (China Compulsory Certification) approval in China. These smartpho`nes are enabled fast charging feature. Among the Nokia phones that have launched this year, only the Nokia 8 carries support for quick charging.

The inclusion of fast charging suggests that TA-1041 and TA-1042 may not be entry-level smartphones. Well known leakster Roland Quandt, has claimed that the HMD Global will be also launching another Nokia phone apart from the Nokia 2. Speculations are rife that the TA-1041 and TA-1042 could be Nokia 9 or Nokia 7.

The Nokia 9 is speculated as an advanced version of the Nokia 8 flagship that will arrive with a full screen or dual edge curve design and dual rear cameras. There is no information available on Nokia 7, but it is now rumored to be stripped down version of the Nokia 8.
