Elephone have today announced that they will be collaborating with ZUK, to break the overseas market and will be responsible for overseas marketing and sales of the ZUK Z1.
Whilst this may seem like an unusual idea, it is not uncommon for China based companies to work together and will hopefully see better international distribution and marketing across both brands.
ZUK are backed by Lenovo who purchased Motorola and have access to a huge portfolio of Mobile phone patents, giving them a chance to go after territories like the US and Europe directly, rather than through resellers importing devices, the patents are something that other China phone companies lack and possibly a major reason many are not trying to get in to the US and UK markets where patents and copyrights are taken much more seriously.
I hope that this means we will be seeing much more of ZUK this side of the pond and that the brands will both go from strength to strength.

After the disappointing Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, everyone’s eyes have turned towards non-mainstream chip makers like Huawei. This Chinese company has come up with decent mid-range chipsets like the Kirin 935 in recent years and according to the latest leak, the upcoming Kirin 950 chipset will be powerful enough to take on the Exynos 7420 that is considered as the best high-end SoC in the market right now.
The Geekbench benchmark shows that the Kirin 950 chipset managed to score 1909 in the single-core test and 6096 in the multi-core test. This is much better than Exynos 7420 which scores about 1486 in the single-core and 4986 in the multi-core tests.
Such high score isn’t surprising given that the Kirin 950 is expected to come with four Cortex A72 power cores clocked at 2.4GHz. The chip is also said to be built using TSMC’s 16nm FinFET process. So, a combination of four such ultra-powerful cores can easily outclass the Cortex A57 ones used in the Exynos 7420.
Of course, Huawei is yet to release full details about its Kirin 950 chipset. So, its best to take this news with a pinch of salt.
Cabot may not be the No. 1 manufacturer you think of when it comes to choosing a right smartphone but this small Chinese company wants to draw some attention by designing some cool looking phones. The manufacturer managed to surprise us with a good build quality and great choice of materials in the past (e.g. Cubox X9) and this time around they have produced another nicely designed phone – Cubox X15.
First of all, Cubot advertises this device as a bezel-less phone, which is a trend that we’ve seeing from Chinese manufacturers for a while. Well, it is not truly bezel-less but it does not have physical borders and 5.5″ 1080P 2.5D display, which adds some great looks to the design.

The very first impression about the design of this phone is that it is entirely made of metal . Well, it may not be true as the backplate is a plastic one with some metallic elements in it but the frame and the buttons are made of quality CNC metal alloy.
The device spots a combo of 16MP/8MP camera sensors on the back and the front, respectively.
Under the hood there is a MTK6735 chip along with 2GB of RAM and Mali-T720 GPU for graphically intensive tasks. Well, we have already seen a lot of 3GB Chinese smartphones but the reality shows that it is more about the optimisation of RAM memory rather than a raw number.
The rest of the specs include Android 5.1 out of the box, dual SIM-dual standby support (one SIM card slot also doubles as a microSD card slot, which takes cards up to 32GB), 4G connectivity (LTE 800/1800/2100/2600MHz bands) and more.
Overall, the Cubot X15 shapes up to be a nicely designed phone that uses premium materials and good craftsmanship, and decent specs for the price.
Back in May, when Huawei announced its flagship of the year, the Huawei P8, the company showcased an innovative technology on its device, called as Knuckle Sense. The feature allowed users to interact with their touchscreens in a new language, your knuckle. This opened up new functions to the user, which aimed to improve the overall touch screen experience. Today, we take a look at the company behind this tech, Qeexo.
Qeexo is a Bay Area startup founded in 2012. The company developed the technology called FingerSense which Huawei then rebranded as Knuckle Sense. This tech is currently being used in Huawei’s P8 and Honor 7 flagships and we expect them to be available in future Huawei smartphones too. While Huawei branded it as Knuckle Sense, this technology can do much more.
FingerSense relies on the ability to differentiate the vibrations created by different parts of your hand, namely — fingertip, nail and even knuckle. It can even differentiate between a finger and a stylus without the need for additional hardware. This helps FingerSense assign different functions for different types of input. For example, a simple “knuckle knock”can capture a screenshot. So, you don’t have to remember any combination of buttons to accomplish this task. You can even assign “knuckle gestures” for launching an app or circle an area of interest with your knuckle to crop any portion of the screen. Since the launch of the first iPhone with pinch to zoom feature, we haven’t seen much innovation when it comes to our interaction with touch screens. FingerSense aims to change that by putting different parts of our finger at work. Its like a right click option for your smartphone.
The company is really excited to spread this technology throughout the smartphone industry. And it won’t be too hard to integrate FingerSense on other smartphones since this is a software only tech.
So, Huawei is just the start. Qeexo CEO, Sang Won Lee has confirmed that they are in talks with several other manufacturers.

When Xiaomi announced the Redmi Note 2 phablet in the market on Aug 13, we knew the phone was going to sell well. A few weeks back, reputed IHS analyst, Pan Jiutang had said that Meizu will release two new smartphones later this year, one high-end and the other mid-range costing less than 1000 Yuan. Later, we came to know courtesy of VP Li Nan, that the company had dropped plans for Meizu MX4 which usually is released in the late second half of the year. Instead, the company was reportedly working on a super high-end device which will replace the MX5 Pro lineup. Now, it looks like we have some details about this device.
The new Meizu flagship is reportedly called as the Meizu MX5 Pro Plus. Yes, it a weird name and unlike what Li Nan said, it comes with the MX5 Pro name tag. We think, this could be the old name of the handset and the company will call it something different when it launches later this year.
Looks wise, it similar to the MX5 flagship, only a bit larger. As for the specs, the Meizu MX5 Pro Plus is said to come with a 2K 6-inch display, which makes it even larger than MX4 Pro. Like earlier rumors, the phone is said to come with the powerful Exynos 7420 chip that powers the Galaxy Note 5 along with 4GB of RAM. At the back, the MX5 Pro Plus is expected to feature a Sony 20.7MP camera.
In case you are wondering about the MX5 Pro Plus release date, then expect it only by November. The company has the Flyme 5.0 launch event sometime late September and after that you can expect to see this powerful flagship. Today sees more information confirmed about the upcoming Business M series phones from Elephone, the 64-bit quad-core MT6735A SoC has been confirmed to be clocked at 1.3GHz, and run Android 5.1 OS.
The screen has been confirmed at 5.5″, with 13mp rear and 8mp front cameras (supplier as yet unconfirmed).
Also confirmed is that the phone will feature a finger print sensor, another source has advised that the M1 could be Elephone’s first phone to feature a USB Type-c Connector.
Things are really starting to heat up in the China phone market with phones coming thick and fast.
What do you think of the Business Series, a worthy addition or just further confusion in the line up?
When established smartphone makers are obsessed about reducing the bezels on its flagships to a bare minimum, ZUK is apparently taking things to a whole new level. Just towards the end of the conference on Aug 11, where ZUK announced its first smartphone, the ZUK Z1, the company reportedly showcased an interesting prototype.
A transparent screen smartphone was showcased at the experience section. As you can see in the picture above, the transparent screen phone is no gimmick. The phone does exist and it looks like ZUK has the tech to make such an advanced device.
The phone was displayed on the stand and it is said the device can perform all the functions as a traditional smartphone. For example, it can display images, make phone calls, play music etc. In fact, as you can see in one of the image, the photo displayed was quite clear despite the transparent screen.
Of course, let me remind you that this is just a prototype device and don’t expect a retail launch at least in the next one year. Its not going to be easy to manufacture transparent phones on a mass scale, at least right now. So, it may take a while until the market starts seeing transparent screen smartphones.
Still, it good to see there is a working prototype. And from what we can see in the images, the phone definitely looks advanced.

For the past two years, it has become kind of a tradition for flagships to go through a teardown, revealing whats exactly inside the device and how well has the company fitted components. We have seen a large number of teardowns from iFixit alone, and today, the OnePlus 2 flagship killer got the teardown treatment revealing the inner components of the smartphone.

Although Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 was announced today, the main event was for the release of Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 7 version based on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. As predicted, Xiaomi unveiled a brand new handset in its Redmi Note lineup, namely the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 phablet. Thanks to the numerous leaks in the past couple of weeks, we knew a lot about this new handset and almost everything has turned out to be true!
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is as impressive as we thought. It comes with the MTK Helio X10 flagship chipset which features eight 64-bit cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz. This is definitely a killer chipset inside a mid-range phablet capable of handling almost any task. There are eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. The Redmi Note 2 will feature a large 5.5-inch display with full HD 1080p display.
