A recent snapshot posted by Weibo user @DOSPY-山雨独酌 shows that the Huawei Mate 7’s processor is the Kirin 926. Based on the fact that this device has 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM, this must be the high-end version of the Mate 7.
So, what upgrades were made for the Kirin 925? It is bound to have a stronger GPU than the Kirin 920. Instead of the Kirin 920’s Mali-T628MP4 GPU, it should have the stronger Mali-T628MP6 GPU.
Although the Kirin 920 is a pretty good processor, its GPU is not very strong. If the Kirin 925 has stronger GPU then it should have better power consumption.

Yesterday, the Meizu MX4 was finally launched and its 1799 RMB (292.93 USD) price is insane. We have already reviewed this phone. Now, here are photos of the MX4 unboxed.
The MX4’s design looks very similar to the MX3 with its round shape. The difference though is that its frame is made of magnalium. The rear shell has been furnished and polished instead of painted.
At the same, the size of the Meizu MX4’s screen was increased from 5.4 inches to 5.36 inches. The phone’s width was also increased. Considering how its weight has increased by 5g, the phone’s width has made it slimmer.
In addition to the MX4’s 5.36-inch screen, it has the world’s narrowest frame (2.6mm) increasing its screen ratio to 80%. This should provide great video quality. This phone also sports a 20.7mp Sony camera (IMX 220). Many people should be pleased to know that the lens does not point out too much and is only at almost the same level as the phone’s body and rear case. It also has a dual-LED light.
BIRD’s latest release is the 4G L108 phone which has just gone on sale.
The Bird L108’s design is not that different from many devices with round, curvy shapes. This phone stands out more for its colors and adornments. For example, there is a gold plate in the right side.
Like most of Bird’s L phones, the L108 is China Mobile-customized. It supports China Mobile TD-LTE 4G internet (single SIM card). It uses a MT6582+MT6290 dual chipset. Other than that, its specs are just so-so. It sports a 4.5-inch display screen with FWVGA resolution and a 2mp/5mp dual-camera, and has 512Mb RAM and 4Gb ROM. It is powered by a 1750mAh battery and its OS is the Android 4.42. Many will be surprised that a cellphone that costs less than 1000 RMB has a noice-cancelling microphone.
As an entry-level 4G phone, it costs at least 688 RMB.
Recently, TCL-affiliate Alcatel hosted an event in Thailand where they launched their newest device, the OneTouch Flash. This fashionable smartphone sports a 5.5-inch screen and uses an octa-core processor. According to ads, this is actually the TCL Momoda which had been released in China a while ago.
The Alcatel OneTouch Flash’s main specs are the same as the S270’s. Its processor is the 1.4Ghz MT6592M octa-core chipset. It sports a 5.5-inch display screen with HD resolution (1280 x 720). It has 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM (expandable) as well as a 5mp/13mp camera. It is powered by a 3200mAh battery and its OS is the Android 4.42.
Like the Momoda, the Alcatel OneTouch Flash is HotKnot-supported. Both phones support P2P data transfer.
On August, Lenovo, together with China Unicom, launched four 4G phones, one of which is targeted at the entry-level market. It is called the Lenovo A606. Like the A806 and A916, the A606 will also use a LTE processor from MTK. Now, it is on sale in China Unicom official stores.
The best thing about the A606 is its internet settings. It uses the MTK6582 (1.3GHz) and MT6290 processors and supports TD-LTE and FDD-LTE 4G internet. It is also compatible with WCDMA and GSM networks. It only has one SIM card slot.
The Lenovo A606 sports a 5-inch IPS display screen with FWVGA resolution. It has 512Mb RAM and 4Gb ROM and also sports a .3/5mp dual-camera. It is powered by a 2000mAh battery and its OS is the Android 4.42-based VIBE UI.
The Lenovo A606 (contract edition) costs about 799 RMB.
This year Koobee introduced four new flagship series: the MAX series, M series, H series, and the Star series. Based on the information about the first in the Star series, the S1, this line seems to be targeted at the mid- and low-end markets. The newest phone in the Star series is called the Koobee S2 and will soon be sold in the market for 1399 RMB.
Unlike the S1, the S2 does not use HotKnot technology. Instead, it has an infrared sensor and can serve as an infrared controller that users could use to watch TV or turn on the air conditioning.
The Koobee S2 is shaped like the S1 but its rear case is made of leather giving it a different texture than the S1’s. This phone is available in many colors like black, white, blue, and red. Its measurements are 142 x 71.8 x 8.9mm.
A 4G cellphone, the Koobee S2 uses a dual-chip LTE processor (MT6582 + MT6290) that supports TD-LTE (China Mobile 4G), TD-SCDMA and GSM networks. Its other specs are similar to the S1’s. It sports a 5-inch qHD display screen and 2mp/8mp camera, has 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM, and is fueled by a 2000mAh battery. Its OS is the Android 4.42-based DIDO OS 4.0. It also supports OTG and an electric compass.
The 4G edition of the Smartisan phone has just received certification from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
According to MIIT’s website, the Smartisan 4G phone’s model number is SM705 and sports a 5-inch 1080p display screen. Its processor is the Snapdragon 801 quad-core chipset (2.5GHz). It has 2GB RAM and its OS is the Android 4.4.2-based Smartisan OS. The Smartisan 4G phone also sports a 5mp/13mp camera and supports TD-LTE/TD-SCDMA/WCDMA/GSM networks.
The 16GB version will cost 3500 RMB while the 32GB edition will cost 3650 RMB (594.08 USD).
Again, Meizu has not made any compromises on their new phone’s design and texture. It continues to use the first-gen MX phone’s design but has a bigger screen and has a detachable plastic rear case. The mid-frame is made of magnalium to make it harder.
The MX4’s magnalium mid-frame was cut using a CNC process.
The MX4’s metal mid-frame and sandblast architecture, gives the phone a more comfortable feeling when handling it and stronger friction force. It does go as far as making the phone slippery because of how slim it is. It basically removes the scratchy metallic feeling from the MX3 Silver Edition.
The MX4’s large area using a metallic mid-frame can keep the phone more intact. That way, when it falls, it will not add a lot of pressure on the screen.
The MX4 sports a 5.36-inch 1920 x 1152 display screen. It still has a 15:9 screen aspect ratio and 79% screen ratio. It is surrounded by a 2.6mm frame. This, along with the phone’s rear case, makes it easier for users to use the MX4 single-handedly. These upgrades not only put an end to the complaints regarding the MX4’s resolution but also solve the power-consumption problems faced by 2K screens.
The MX4’s slimmer curved plastic rear case goes well with the metal mid-frame. Furthermore, users can just insert a card in the slot underneath the phone.
The MX4 sports a 20.7mp Sony IMX220 camera with 5P lens. The lens provides the camera with a blue coating. The camera is surrounded by a more tightly held Fresnel lens which smoothens the phone’s rear surface.
Overall, Meizu has pulled all the stops to ensure that the MX4’s design is more compact. The metal mid-frame and screen rubber-suspension technology decreases any accidental damage done to the screen.
Benchmark test
The MX4 uses MTK’s new octa-core 4G chip, the MT6595. Its biggest feature is that it uses ARM technology (Big.Little), and is composed by four Cortex-A17 cores and four Cortex-A7 cores. The Cortex-A17 cores have a frequency of 2.2GHz. All eight cores are turned on at the same time.
The MT6595 uses Imagination Technologies’ PowerVR Series6 GPU which provides the phone with excellent graphics and many multimedia functions. This chip also has a LTE modem that supports 5 modes and over 30 frequencies. It is compatible with FDD/TD-LTE networks in China.
The MX4 is the first phone to use this chip and has scored 49943 in the Antutu benchmark test.
Operating System
The MX4’s operating system is the Flyme 4.0 which was also introduced at the launch. This OS follows a flattened design but some improvements were made with the tabs which are more connected to each other than in the Flyme 3.0. The Flyme 4.0 comes with many tabs as well as App notification tabs, and tabs for third-party apps.
Top: MX3’s UI; Bottom: MX4’s UI
Regarding the camera app, there is a “smart bar” at the bottom. As the photo shows, the tabs for the video camera and photo camera are bigger and the positions for the photo app and the camera app were changed. Many other changes were made in the menu.
Top: MX3’s camera interface; Bottom: MX4’s camera interface
The tabs at the scroll-down menu are rounder and bigger including the tab that shows the time.
Top: MX3’s scroll-down menu; Bottom: MX4’s scroll down menu
The Flyme 4.0 is based on the Android 4.4. From the screenshots above, we can see that the colors of the smart bar at the bottom and the task bar at the top were changed to clean up the entire user interface and more integrated. The size of the navigation bar on the left is also bigger now making easier for users to select it.
Overall, the Flyme 4.0 follows a similar design to the Flyme 3.0. Some basic improvements were made and its UI is more flexible now.
Camera
The MX4 is said to sport the best camera out of the entire MX series to date. What’s so great about it? The camera has 20.7mp and has a 1/2.3-inch image sensor. As a result, the area covered by the sensor has increased to 90% and a single pixel covers 1.2um x 1.2um leading to great photo quality. The MX4 also uses a .3sc TDK Closeloop focus motor which can greatly increase the speed of the camera’s focus.
The MX4 uses a stand-alone ISP that supports 4×1.5Gbps and can handle 10mp. As a result, the camera can take up to 25 photos per second as well as take 4K videos at 30 frames per second. This phone also comes with a dual-LED flash which can add brightness when taking photos at darker places.
These photos which were taken using the MX4 and were posted on Meizu’s official website show that the quality of photos taken with the MX4’s camera has greatly improved. Each photo has up to 8Mb, and when enlarged, still look just as good. In addition, as you can see from the photos taken at night, they are very clear. The colors are brighter and more transparent.
In conclusion, the Meizu MX4 is a great device that is smoother and easier to use. This phone will be Meizu’s main artillery when facing the 4G wave and the harsh competition. With its 1799 RMB price (292.62 USD), great design, and the Flyme 4.0 OS, the MX4 will be a force to be reckoned with. Companies can take it as an example of how dreams can come true.

Lenovo has sent out invites for its event on 4th September at IFA, Berlin. Surprisingly, these invites feature a lollipop with Vibe X2 written in the centre thus fuelling claims that the company is all set to launch its latest smartphone, the Vibe X2. The lollipop seems to be hinting at Android L, the latest version of the Android operating system. The invite is topped by a satirical statement on top which says ‘We can’t sat anything either.’ This statement is definitely a take on Apple’s punchline on its invite which says ‘Wish we could say more’. Healthy humour before the start of IFA surely points out to a great event ahead. The invite also reveals more that the real name of the latest version of Android i.e. Android L is ‘lollipop’ and not ‘lemon meringue pie’. However, Google is yet to confirm this news and unless coming from Google, the world cannot believe any speculation.
The Vibe X2 will be released in a few days but if the leaked reports are to be believed the phone has a 5 inch HD screen. It is powered by a dual-core processor and 2 GB RAM. It also has a 13 mega pixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5 mega pixel front camera. According to the leaks, the phone is an exact replica of its predecessor the Vibe X but it has a better processor. The Vibe X is currently priced at INR 22,999 which is INR 3000 less than the price at which it was launched in December last year.
Gionee has broken its own record of the handset Elife S5.5 as the world’s slimmest smartphone with the Elife S5.1. The company has created quite a buzz in the market with leaked images of the Elife S5.1 before the official launch. The specifications of this are yet to be announced officially but we have a leaked version of the specifications.
As per the leaked images, the Elife S5.1 looks a lot like its predecessor, the one which it I set to dethrone. While the world awaits the official launch of the phone, Gionee has teased the customers every now and then by giving them a glimpse of the new phone. The latest Elife S5.1 is being proclaimed to have a thickness of just 5 mm.
Recently, a website has proclaimed that it has got its hands on the phone and has leaked the specifications. According to this leaked report, the Elife S5.1 has a 4.8 inch full HD AMOLED display. This might be a price that the phone has had to pay due to its reduced thickness because the Elife S5.5 has a Super AMOLED full HD display. It also says that the phone’s dimensions are 139.8 X 67.4 X 5.15 mm. The phone is powered by a quad core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1 G RAM. It supports a micro sim and also supports 4G LTE. It ha an 8 mega pixel rear camera and a 5 mega pixel front camera. The phone also has 16 GB internal memory which is not expandable. It is fuelled by a 2100 mAh battery and runs on Android 4.3 topped with Gionee’s own, Amigo 2.0 interface.
With the IFA trade show in Berlin coming soon, the mobile world is abuzz with rumours and announcements. The biggest and busiest time for the mobile phone manufacturers is here as they all compete against each other to bring out something new and innovative. To add to the buzz, Apple will launch its latest iPhone on 9th September which has the attention of the entire world set on it. All mobile phone manufacturers are utilising this time to the fullest by bringing out latest phones and showcasing their latest technologies.
However, ZTE has something else in mind. Instead of jumping in the crowd like all other competitors, ZTE wants to wait till the excitement has died down. Only then will it hold a launch event of its own. It seems that the company does not want to share the attention of customers with other competitors. It wants all eyeballs to be fixed on its product. The above said event will take place on 16th September at New York City. However, it is still not clear as to which phone will ZTE launch at this event?
The company’s USA branch has launched a seven second Vine video which is the invite to this event. Since the event is taking place in USA and the invite has also been launched by ZTE USA it is being anticipated that the device will be up for sales in the USA. It is not common for ZTE products to be sold in the USA but recently Nubia 5S Mini entered the US market through a sales agreement with Amazon.com.
