Fixing GPS issues for Android MTK devices.

GPS is a very handy tool, making sightseeing easier and brilliant for those who work away a lot or people who travel regularly. Mediatek-powered devices can struggle with this feature but the service can be improved by tweaking the setting on your phone. If you have one of the following  running your device this tutorial can help you get the most out of your phone’s GPS: MTK6592, MTK6582, MTK6589, MTK 6577 and MTK6575.

Before you start you need to make sure you have a ROOTED Android phone, uninterrupted internet connection and the GPS Test Application (available from Play Store).

Once you’ve got what you need and you’re ready to get started, these are the steps to a better GPS.

1. First of all enable the Internet Connection on your phone

2. Next go to ‘Settings’ then tap on ‘Google’ then select  ‘Location Settings’ and make sure ‘Let Google apps access your location’ is set to ‘ON’.

How_to_turn_enable_Google_apps_location_access_7

3. Choose the option of ‘Location Access’. Make sure that All the options available there are Checked “ON”. as you can see in the image: You can also do get to the same stage by choosing ‘Settings’ and then ‘Location Access’ if you prefer.

Android-location-services-271x480

4. Next, in ‘Settings’ go to ‘Location Access’, and open  ‘GPS satellites’. Then you can enable ‘GPS EPO assistance’ as shown in the picture below.

gps-1

5. Next go to ‘EPO settings’, which looks like this and set the EPO data to download.

gps-2-16. Now Enable AGPS GPS.

This should mean you have GPS enabled on your MTK device. To check all is well, however, you can test the feature. To do this you need to Install ‘GPS Test’ from the link in the initial instructions at the beginning of the article.

7. If you have it, in the GPS Test App, tap Menu/Settings and check screen always on.

8. Be in your home and start the application and see the bar graph going up and down. You will see something like this

gps_test_1_Z42

But if this doesn’t work then try going out and moving around, if these graphs start to move, all is well and you’re good to go. After you’ve completed these steps you should have a capable GPS system and be confident enough to actually rely on it.

Pre-orders for the Pioneer K68W to start soon: has a 5.5-inch 720p screen that supports 2.5D surface touch

As the first half of 2014 ends, many Chinese manufacturers are preparing the new products that they plan to release during the second half of the year. One of them is Pioneer’s 3G phone, the Pioneer K68W. Those who want it may soon make pre-orders at Suning. In the mean time, more information on the phone’s specs have been released.

1-140F21F93B19

Just as previous reports have stated, the Pioneer K68w has a “jade surface.” Other than making the phone look more attractive, it also improves the phone’s texture. As the promotional poster shows, the K68W is white and has metallic edges. It has a 5.5-inch 720p screen. As a result it has a thickness of 8.1mm, length of 150mm, and width of 77mm.

The K68W will be the first Pioneer photo to use an octa-core processor, which is the 1.7GHz MTK6592. However, its memory is just so-so (1GB RAM and 8GB ROM). It is powered by a 2100mhA, and supports WCDMA/GSM dual-SIM. Like the E81T, it continues to use a 2.5D touch screen whose surface is protected by glass. Its operating system is the Android 4.42 kitkat. In addition, it uses Dolby audio. If customized, you can also stream videos with the PPTV.

Those who want it should look for updates at Suning.

The Mi 3S confirmed to support 4G internet

Which will be Xiaomi’s new flagship phone, the Mi 3S or the Mi 4?

Earlier today, industry analyst, Pan Jiutang, announced on his Weibo account that Xiaomi will hold a launch event for their new products this month, with the Mi 3S at the helm. Some reports had said that the Mi 3S is really an upgrade of the Mi 2S and that it’s not 4G-supported.

Pan Jiutang refuted the rumors and said that the Mi 3S will support 4G internet. If this is true, then, the Mi 3S should truly be an upgraded version of the Mi 3.

Previous reports had stated that the Mi 3S will continue to sport a 5-inch 1080p screen and an 8mp/13mp dual-camera. It will also support FDD LTE and TD-LTE internet. Its operating system is the Android 4.4.2 and that it will use the 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor. It will also have 3GB RAM and 16GB internal memory storage.

So, will the Mi 4 be launched on August 16 or September?

MediaTek to formally launch the 4G octa-core MT6595 chip on July 15

Actually, MediaTek had already introduced the world to the MT6595 as early as the MWC conference at the beginning of the year. It is the first 4G octa-core chipset in the world.

MediaTek will hold the actual launch event for their newest chipset on July 15 in Shenzhen.

The MT6595 will be the first to use the ARM Cortex-A17. Regarding performance, the A17 cores are just as good as the A15, but it saves more energy. Its GPU is the IMG PowerVR G6200 and it has a main frequency of 600MHz.

Regarding video performance, it’s a pretty powerful processor. Among other things it supports OpenGL ES2.0/3.0, OpenGL 1.x/3.x/4.x and Direct X 19. It also supports H.265 Ultra HD 4K video record and playback. When playing an HD video, you can zoom in every time you like.

Its use of an LTE Modem is also one of the most important aspects of the MT6595. It supports an internet speed of, at most, 50/150Mbps. If this succeeds, next year, we can see another edition that supports 4G solutions like TD-LTE, FDD-LTE, WCDMA, CDMA, TD-SCDMA, and GSM.

One of the reasons why MediaTek’s chips have been praised by Chinese manufacturers is its low power consumption. The MT6595 is no exception and its use of MTK’s own CorePilot lets smart phones that use the MT6595 save more energy.

MediaTek will use the MT6595 to enter the mid and high-end market, and in July, we may see if it’s as powerful as everyone says if they release the first cell phone to use it.

iNew V8 review – iNew V8(oppo N1 clone) VS Oppo N1

iNew have amazed the world with their original models of smartphones. They have received enormous positive feedback for their iNew v3 despite the smartphone having some defects especially on the battery and the charging system. In general, the v3 is lovely for its originality and versatility. It features an attractive 6.5mm slim design, air gesture, OTG, NFC technology, a powerful 6 core processor and a solid Gorilla corn 2 screen displays. This gorgeous creation by iNew has left many wondering and speculating about the next big thing they are busy building. Recently, iNew confirmed that they will launch a wonder gadget, the iNew v8 this July.

1

We know that iNew are capable of pulling an original device. However, their v8 has been largely criticised as a Oppo N1 clone. They appear to share close resemblance that leave many wondering what are the distinctive features between the two and which would be the best buy. Read on for some light.

There have been massive rumours that the iNew v8 will run on MTK6591 hexa core processor and that it will support 4G LTE. Nevertheless, we can boldly confirm that the Media Tek MTK6591 cannot power 4G LTE. While the N1 supports 4G LTE, the v8 doesn’t. The design and rotational camera of the iNew 8 has made it to be christened clone to Oppo N1 which was the world’s first smartphone to feature a rotational camera.

2

Comparison of iNew v8 and Oppo N1: Screen Display

On one hand, the Oppo N1 Mini has a 5.9 inch display of 720 pixels which you don’t need to touch when using the phone because you can swipe and swoop with the excellent rear touch panel. On the other hand, the v8 features a larger 5.5 inch display of 1080  pixels.

IMG_4442 IMG_4446 IMG_4433 IMG_4432 IMG_4427

Comparison of iNew v8 and Oppo N1:SoC and OS

The Oppo N1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 MSM8928 quad core processor that runs on a maximum clock speed of 1.7GHz. It comes with Android 4.2 or Android 4.3, 2GB RAM and 16 GB or 32GB ROM worth of storage. On its part, the iNew v8 is presented with Media Tek’s MTK6591 hexa core processor with 1.5GHz. We always bump into smartphones powered by dual core, quad core and octa core, but a six core processor is largely unheard to support a smartphone, but iNew have been able to pull this first, they are that creative. iNew v8 runs on the Kit Kat Android 4.4.2 operating system. The v8 thus provides massive operating speed. It has been confirmed that the iNew v8 has 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM to provide more room for saving files in the internal memory. You can expand the storage with a TF card if you feel that the 16GB is not enough.

Comparison of iNew v8 and Oppo N1: Cameras

Both the iNew v8 and the Oppo N1 feature a rotational camera that can be revolved from the front to the back and record images at virtually any angle. The cameras of the two phones feature a 13 Megapixels resolution and can be used as both front and rear cameras. Front cameras are normally made to provide poorer quality images, but both the iNew v8 and Oppo N1 are made to overstep this limitation. They shoot high quality images and videos from either the front or the back. It is this similarity in cameras that make iNew v8 to be regarded Oppo N1 clone.

IMG_4437 IMG_4435 IMG_4425

Comparison of iNew v8 and Oppo N1: Battery capacity

The iNew v8 smartphone is packaged with 2,400smAh capacity battery. This is smallish when compared to the power capability of the Oppo N1 that comes with a Li-Ion 3,610mAh capacity battery.

Comparison of iNew v8 and Oppo N1Pricing

The top features certainly have attracted you, and we know you are interested in knowing about the price tag it carries. The Oppo N1 16 GB variant is priced at around $506.95 and the 32 GB variant is priced at around AU $639.95. The iNew V8 carries an unbelievable price tag of $249.98.

Verdict

The Oppo N1 is definitely a high end smartphone and will largely outmuscle the iNew v8 on many specs. The iNew v8 downside is the battery capacity; we can purchase a standby battery to offset this limitation. But given the friendly price of the iNew v8, you can hardly fault its makers. They aim to deliver affordable power to their waiting consumers.

Sure, there are now many phones with satisfactory front-facing cameras, but the versatility of a swivel camera adds so much more fun to mobile photography. I honestly never thought I’d end up taking so many group selfies using the N1, but the extra clarity and remote shutter make a difference here. And of course, Oppo’s build quality plus software innovation here are just as reassuring.

UMI X3 – The FULL Review

UMI X3 – The FULL Review

The Umi CROSS’s success has converted many people to the brand. Early this year Umi followed this with the release of the Umi X3, with excellent design and specifications. Does the form and function of the new model match the success of the old? This full review should clear a few things up.

QQ图片20140613112015

What’s in the box?

The Umi X3 comes with the usual accessories; the battery is inbuilt, it has a USB cable and a user manual.

QQ图片20140613112317

How does it look?

QQ图片20140613112247

QQ图片20140613112303

The Umi X3 has a simple design. There is a large 5.5inch screen with minimal embellishments, the three buttons below the screen are only visible when the phone is lit, making for an uncluttered appearance. It really is nice to look at. The edges are similarly simplistic, aside from the necessary USB slot, headphone jack and Micro SIM slot, the only extras are a volume control and the Power button. Essentials only then, but that’s everything you need.

The 5.5 inch 1080p FHD IPS screen is good quality, the Umi X3 also boasts OGS Technology and compares rather well with other smartphones in this respect. One pretty important let-down however, is the lack of Gorilla Glass. Without this the screen is prone to scratches which ruin the look and excellent display quality of the product.

How does the UMI X3 perform?

The specifications are impressive. The UMI X3 benefits from a 1.7GHz MT6592 Octa-core processor, and has 2GB RAM/16GB ROM. The benchmarks are excellent, reaching 25,527 points on the Antatu test, proving that high performance apps and large games would be easily supported. In fact it outperforms the Galaxy Note2 and the Sony Experia Z in this regard. This is all good, but the UMI X3 does not support Micro XD Extended Memory so 16GB is the maximum internal storage. This is a disappointment, the power to support the large games would be best complimented by the capacity to store a lot of them.

The camera is high performance too, the UMI X3 front camera is 8MP and the rear is 13MP, taking excellent quality photos and featuring a dual flash which is pretty rare for a smartphone. All this makes the X3 an excellent choice for those who make good use of a smartphone camera. These are some examples of the photo quality:

新图像51 QQ图片112 QQ图片111 新图像61

As regards the battery life, the UMI X3 has an inbuilt 3150mAh battery providing 2-3 days standby time. This is not really enough for heavy use of the high performance apps and games that the phone ruins so well.

QQ图片20140613111942

UMI X3: impressive benchmark results.

What features does the UMI X3 possess?

There are three notable features of the UMI X3, NFC, USB On-The-Go and GPS Testing Plus. The NFC function is useful for making contactless payments with the smartphone and works well on this device. The OTG also works well and is very handy for example for printing pictures straight from your smartphone. The GPS works really well too, being straightforward and utilising many satellites to get the most accurate information.

Bottom line then?

The UMI X3 is a good smartphone, with some excellent specs and features such as a great camera and good performance benchmark results. The X3 is however let down by the lack of basics such as Gorilla Glass and Micro SD Extended Memory capability.

HDC Desire 816(m7 knockoff): Full Review

HDC is making a good living out of cloning the HTC range of smartphones. Sales of the many previous models have been impressive and people on a low budget are appreciating the good value these clone models provide. The HDC Desire 816 is a clone of the HTC Desire 816 and as such contains comparable design and similar hardware at a fraction of the cost of the original.  This model is retailing at $159.99 which is a very competitive price. How is the performance though and what do you get for your money? Well, let’s take a look.

HDC Desire 816: Design

hdc_desire_816_23

hdc_desire_816_21

The look of the HDC Desire 816 is identical to the original HTC model, it is slim and well designed with a large 5.5 inch screen which is not Gorilla Glass. There are the usual ports but they are covered with a plastic flap so they don’t compromise the simple beauty of the design. With even the boot screen being identical to the original and the HTC logo being displayed it really would be hard to spot the difference between original and clone on looks alone.

HDC Desire 816: Performance

The HDC Desire 816 must lose out somewhere on the performance if the price tag is to be anything other than miraculous. The screen is one area of compromise, with the HDC version using a 720p screen whereas the original HTC model has 1080p. The lower specifications do not mean poor quality here though and the screen performs well under most conditions, bright sunlight does cause some visibility difficulties however.

hdc_desire_816_17-300x225hdc_desire_816_18-300x225

The specifications are fairly standard but good value: there is a MTK6582 quad-core processor and 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM running Android 4.2 OS. The system works well though, scoring reasonable highly on benchmark tests and the performance in general use is good.

hdc_desire_816_16-300x225hdc_desire_816_14-300x225

hdc_desire_816_11-300x225hdc_desire_816_9-300x225

Despite some misinformation here, the company claim it has a 13Mp camera but tests have found that it is at most 8Mp, although it has some nice bonus features such as Autofocus and 5x Zoom. These are some photos taken with it:

115-225x300212-225x300

36-225x30045-225x300

The battery, with 26000 Mah, has a 2-3 days standby life so with reasonably low performance use should last one day.

Conclusion

Overall the HDC Desire 816 is not a top end smartphone, but it is a well-performing package for the price. For those on a budget it really is a good looking and very functional smartphone that hides its deficiencies very well.

The back face of the phone contains the rear camera with the LED flashlight below it. Under that, we have the fingerprint scanner. Underneath the cover there’s a large battery compartment and slots for two SIM cards, one TF slot. Underneath this compartment is the media speaker.

Vifocal C1000 – Screen

The Vifocal C1000 has a 5.5 inch screen with a 960 x 540 resolution. The specifications aren’t exactly mind blowing but Vifocal has used QHD resolution and,  given the screen, is fine with regards to visibility and the touchscreen works very well.

Vifocal C1000: Performance

The C1000 is equipped with the quad-core Mediatek MTK6582 based on the Arm 4 Cortex processor (which clocks at 1.3 GHz) and Mali 400MP GPU graphics. It is a bit of a disappointment that there is no octa-core processor, but that said, the Vifocal C1000 is plenty powerful enough to run high powered apps and games.

The AnTuTu benchmark tests show some great results. The score of 18018 means the C1000 outperforms the Galaxy S3 and Nexus 4, so it should have no problem with high performance tasks.

Extras and Omissions

The C1000 has OTG function enabling it to communicate and send data to other devices. Its Bluetooth and WiFi also work well. One disappointment, however, is the lack of NTG function which could be a deterrent for fans of the technology.

Vifocal C1000: Camera/Battery

The camera specifications of the C1000 are 5.0MP front and 8.0MP in the rear. Quite low spec for a high-end smartphone. These are some sample pictures taken with it:

The battery life is standard really, with most users wanting to watch videos and play games on phoes that simply don’t have the stamina. In this case, the Vifocal C1000 lasts about as long as the others but there is of course always the option of charging both batteries to extend the use of the phone. The 3200 mAh battery provides 2-3 days standby time.

Vifocal C1000: Conclusion

The Vifocal C1000 has many great features, such as the groundbreaking finger scanning technology and running the latest Android 4.4 OS. These positives are counterbalanced with some oversights however, low screen resolution, the quad-core processor and low MP camera options are sure to put people off this otherwise impressive model.
