Samsung’s One UI 8 Brings New Features to Galaxy S24 Series and 2024 Foldables

Talking about the 2024 flagship smartphones first, the South Korean tech giant is bringing the stable build of the major One UI 8 update to the Galaxy S24 lineup. The company just rolled out the Android 16 OS based software update for the latest Galaxy S25 series, with a recent sighting also confirming One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Now, Samsung’s Korean community forums confirmed that the One UI 8 update is arriving for non-beta users in the brand’s home market. The build numbers for these updates are S928NKSU4CYI7, S926NKSU9CYI7. S921NKSU9CYI7. Furthermore, Tipster Tarun Vats revealed in a recent tweet that Samsung is bringing the One UI 8 stable build to the 2024 premium foldables.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is receiving the F956NKSU2CYI7, F956NOKR2CYI7, and F956NKSU2CYHC builds, while the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is receiving the F741NKSU2CYI6, F741NOKR2CYI6, and F741NKSU2CYHC versions. Similar to the Galaxy S24 series, the foldables are receiving the major software update in South Korea. To recall, the South Korean tech giant first unveiled the Galaxy S24 with the Exynos 2400. Only South Korea and the US got the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variant. Now, this Qualcomm flagship chip powered variant is arriving in the Indian market. While this is still a high end smartphone, the company has unveiled launched the Galaxy S24 Snapdragon Edition for a lot more affordable price tag.

The 2024 flagship phone just rolled out during Flipkart’s Big Billion Day sales for just Rs 39,999 for the 128GB model. Meanwhile, the 256GB version is listed for Rs 44,999. This marks a massive discount over the Rs 74,999 retail price. That’s not all, Samsung is also offering various other discounts, bringing the effective price down to just Rs 38,999.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Snapdragon Edition only switches the chipset. So the rest of the specs remain the same. The device is powered by a 4,000mAh battery pack with 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging. It sports a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Launched at a starting price of INR 79,999, the flagship-grade Galaxy S24 is now available at a much lower price. It comes in two chip options: Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The latter offers better gaming performance, but both of them easily outperform the Vivo V60’s 7 Gen 4.

The 6.2-inch LTPO AMOLED display may be smaller, but it delivers excellent colors and smoothness. For cameras, the S24 features a 50MP primary camera, a 10MP telephoto unit, and a 12MP ultrawide shooter, with support for 8K video recording. The 12MP selfie camera can shoot up to 4K videos.

The battery capacity and charging speed are somewhat disappointing, but Samsung compensates for this by offering wireless and reverse wireless charging. The Galaxy S24 also offers solid connectivity features, a more durable body, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for better accuracy.

3. Google Pixel 8 Pro

The Pixel 8 Pro delivers big on camera and software. It features a horizontal camera bar that holds a 50MP primary sensor, a 48MP periscope telephoto unit, and a 48MP ultrawide camera, all capable of 4K recording. In addition to high-resolution sensors, there’s software magic from Google that further enhances images and videos. There’s a 10.5MP selfie camera, which also supports 4K recording.

Software is another great aspect of Pixel phones. You get a clean UI, the fastest OS updates, and up to seven years of software updates and security patches. In comparison, the Vivo V60 has some bloatware and only promises four major OS updates.

The main trade-off is the 5,050mAh battery with 30W wired charging, which doesn’t quite match Vivo’s. However, it does offer 23W wireless and reverse wireless charging, along with a tougher build and the latest connectivity standards.

If raw performance is your priority, the Realme GT 7 Pro (full review) is tough to beat. It rocks the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which easily outclasses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 in the V60. The display is nearly the same size but features higher resolution, LTPO technology, and an incredible 6,500 nits peak brightness.

The rear setup includes a 50MP primary camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and an 8MP ultrawide lens, with support for 8K recording. The 16MP selfie camera, limited to 1080p video, is the only weak spot here.

The global model matches the Vivo V60 in battery size, while the Indian version comes with a slightly smaller battery but superior 120W wired charging. The GT 7 Pro also benefits from Wi-Fi 7, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and better durability.

It’s another excellent addition to the list, featuring triple 50MP rear cameras — wide, periscope telephoto, and ultrawide — with support for 4K video recording. The selfie camera is also 50MP and supports 4K recording.

The Reno 14 Pro has the Dimensity 8450 chip under the hood, which is faster and more power-efficient than the Vivo V60’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. It features a slightly larger AMOLED screen with a higher pixel density.

Where it falls is the battery size, but at 6,200mAh and 80W, it’s still ahead of most rivals in this price segment. But the Reno 14 Pro supports 50W wireless charging and Wi-Fi 6e, both of which are lacking on the Vivo V60.

Just last week, the South Korean tech giant confirmed the arrival of the Snapdragon powered Galaxy S24 right after the Galaxy S25 FE’s announcement. This model is set to arrive in India via Flipkart, and with the latest teaser, confirms the arrival of the smartphone for under 40,000 INR. So even with the Galaxy S25 FE arriving as a budget flagship phone, the Galaxy S24 could easily be the better pick.

The teaser showcases the smartphone with the price listed as “Rs 3_,__9”. Based on the image posters, Samsung will roll out the Galaxy S24 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in India in four color options. This includes Onyx Black, Marble Grey, Amber Yellow, and Cobalt Violet. To recall, the original Exynos Galaxy S24 variant for 79,999 INR. So the flagship is arriving in a new price range during Flipkart’s upcoming Big Billion Days Sale 2025.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 might be staging a comeback in India, months after the Galaxy S25 took the spotlight. A new leak points to a Snapdragon-powered variant of the phone headed to the market — a twist few saw coming.

Evidence suggests this version will carry the model number SM-S921E, compared to the SM-S921B sold earlier in India with Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chip. Listings spotted on Flipkart show “Galaxy S24 5G Snapdragon” marked as Coming Soon at INR 74,999 (around $850), with the spec sheet clearly mentioning the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “for Galaxy” processor. That chip has so far been limited to regions like the US.

It’s not just Flipkart fueling the chatter. Geekbench results have surfaced for the SM-S921E, and Samsung’s own firmware servers — as noted by leaker @tarunvats33 — also reference the Snapdragon model. Add in dedicated Flipkart banners promoting the new chip, and it’s hard to chalk this up to a mistake.

But here’s the catch: should you actually wait for this Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered Galaxy S24? Probably not. The Galaxy S25 is already available at the same price on Amazon and comes with the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite chip — a clear step up from the 8 Gen 3. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 FE’s pricing is still under wraps, but looking at history, the S24 FE launched at ₹59,999 and now sells for just ₹39,999. With no major hardware changes in the S25 FE — not even the chipset — it’s likely to launch around the same price point and see steep discounts down the line.

So whether you want the best-performing chipset or the longest software support, the Snapdragon-powered S24 doesn’t look like the most sensible option. The only way it might make sense is if Samsung offers aggressive discounts, similar to its FE series — for instance, matching the current ₹51,998 price of the Exynos-powered S24.

The Galaxy S24 series received the first One UI 8 beta update earlier this month, and now the second beta has arrived. As one would expect, there are several bug fixes and a new September 2025 security patch. Nothing else is mentioned in the changelog, but further investigation reveals that Samsung has actually added three new AI features.

The AI features included with the second One UI 8 beta update are Audio Eraser v2, Call Captions, and Now Brief. The Audio Eraser v2 and Call Captions features were first spotted in the initial One UI 8 betas of Galaxy S25.

The Now Brief, though, isn’t a brand new feature. It debuted on the Galaxy S25 series with One UI 7, but Samsung didn’t bring this feature to any other Galaxy device with the One UI 7 update. That’s changing, as the One UI 8 beta for the S24 series includes this feature. A few other Galaxy devices may also receive this feature with the stable release.

Now Brief

This is an AI-powered feature that provides users with a personalized daily briefing of selected content that updates throughout the day. It’s accessible via the Now Bar, through a widget on the home screen, and the Edge panel. This feature displays bite-sized information such as weather updates, upcoming events, health insights, reminders, and missed calls.

Now Brief is designed to keep users organized and informed by delivering relevant, timely updates. The good thing is that Samsung processes most of its personalized data on the device itself rather than fully relying on the cloud. The company uses Personal Data Engine (PDE) and Knox Vault security to store and process user data locally, while also ensuring the data remains private and protected on the device.

Audio Eraser v2

Samsung’s Audio Eraser feature, debuted with One UI 7, uses AI to automatically identify audio tracks in a video and remove background noise. The tool can identify up to six distinct sound sources in a video and allows users to reduce, remove, or enhance  individual sound types based on their needs.

One UI 8 beta brings an upgraded Audio Eraser that also works with Samsung Notes and Voice Recorder (previously limited to Gallery). In both of these apps, once you record the audio, a small Galaxy AI icon appears below the audio; tapping it instantly removes the noise from the audio. So, the improved Audio Eraser doesn’t require a dedicated screen to remove noise. Samsung has also made the feature faster inside the Gallery app.

Call Captions

The new Call captions feature, spotted in the second One UI 8 beta for the S24 series, provides real-time captions for voice calls using AI. When enabled, it transcribes what the other person says during a voice call. This can be pretty helpful in noisy environments or for people with hearing difficulties.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is priced at $1,019.99 for 256GB and $1,139.99 for 512GB. It comes in Titanium Black and has a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with 12GB of RAM. The Ultra features a quad-camera setup: 200MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, 10MP telephoto (3x zoom), and 50MP telephoto (5x zoom). It has a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. It uses a titanium frame, Gorilla Armor protection, runs Android 14 with One UI 6.1, and is promised seven years of OS and security updates.

Refurbished Galaxy S24+

The Galaxy S24+ costs $799.99 for 256GB and $919.99 for 512GB. It’s available in Onyx Black. It has a 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and 12GB of RAM. The camera setup includes a 50MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, and 10MP telephoto (3x zoom). It packs a 4,900mAh battery with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. It runs Android 14 with One UI 6.1 and gets seven years of updates. Samsung no longer sells the S24+ directly, but you can find the 512GB model new on Amazon for $849, making it $70 cheaper than the refurbished one from Samsung.

Refurbished Galaxy S24

The base Galaxy S24 is priced at $619.99 for 128GB and $669.99 for 256GB. It also comes in Onyx Black. It has a 6.2-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and comes with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The cameras match the S24+, with a 50MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, and 10MP telephoto (3x zoom). It has a smaller 4,000mAh battery, supporting 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. It runs Android 14 with One UI 6.1 and gets seven years of updates. The new Galaxy S24 is priced at $700 for 128GB and $760 for 256GB, meaning Samsung’s refurbished prices save you about $80 to $90, depending on the storage variant.

While the Certified Renewed program gives some savings, they aren’t huge. It’s worth checking the current new prices before deciding. Even so, the Galaxy S24 lineup is still a strong option in 2025, with fast processors, durable builds, long-term support, and good camera hardware.

In other news, Samsung UK is offering a limited-time deal on the Galaxy S25+, with £150 off the phone and free Galaxy Buds 3 Pro (worth £219). The 256GB model is now £849 and the 512GB model £949. Samsung began rolling out the stable One UI 7 update earlier this week, starting with the Galaxy S24 series. The rollout went live in Korea and was expected to go live in more markets on the same day, but that didn’t happen right away. The company is finally bringing the update to more regions, starting with Europe.

The One UI 7 update is now reaching the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra in several European countries, including Germany, the UK, Poland, Italy, and Hungary. We suspect that the update is rolling out across European countries. The update carries the firmware version “BYCG” and includes the April 2025 security patch, along with a host of new features and improvements bundled with One UI 7.

Samsung initially released the update to Galaxy S24 series beta users, but within hours, it began rolling out to non-beta users as well. For beta users, the update weighs just around 450MB since they already have most One UI 7 features installed on their devices. For non-beta users, the update size is approximately 5GB, so it’s advisable to connect to a Wi-Fi network before downloading.

If the update notification hasn’t popped up on your Samsung device, head over to Settings > Software update and tap the Download and install option to check for latest updates. Before you install the update, ensure that your important data is backed up already and the device has at least 30% battery, so that it doesn’t power off during the firmware installation.

One UI 7 coming to more devices this month

The exciting One UI 7 update is currently available for the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold SE in select regions. By the end of April, the update is expected to reach more devices, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy Tab S10 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Mid-range phones will start receiving the update from next month. Samsung aims to complete the One UI 7 rollout by the end of June. By then, Google will have released the stable version of Android 16. Samsung also appears to be gearing up for an early One UI 8 release, as multiple One UI 8 builds have already been spotted on internal test servers. This move could help Samsung make up for the One UI 7 delay and reinforce the trust it has earned over the years.

After plenty of hiccups, Samsung has finally begun rolling out the One UI 7 update, and it’s none other than Galaxy S24 getting the first bite. The update is rolling out to beta as well as non-beta users in select regions.

Samsung is rolling out the One UI 7 update to the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra users in Korea. The update is tagged with the firmware version that ends with BYCG. It’s a major upgrade with a download size of around 5.2GB. Beta users, however, don’t need to download a bulky package as the update package weighs just 400MB. That’s because almost all big changes have already been installed via beta builds.

The Galaxy S24 FE isn’t a part of this One UI 7 release, though. Fan Edition (or FE) devices don’t get updates alongside their regular models. However, Samsung has already confirmed that the device will get the update by the end of this month. So, the wait shouldn’t be too long.

To install the One UI 7 update on your Galaxy S24, go to Settings > Software update and tap Download and install. Once the download is finished, tap the Install now button. If the update isn’t showing up on your device, try again later, as the updates are rolled out in phases. Before installing the update, follow these quick steps for a smooth transition to One UI 7.

Samsung has promised seven major OS updates for the Galaxy S24 series models. Android 15 is the first that’s currently rolling out, and there are six more to go. So the rumors were true. The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is indeed getting the sixth One UI 7 beta update, and this could be the final one before the stable update arrives early next month.

The One UI 7 beta 6 update is rolling out to the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra (the S24 FE is not part of the beta program). It comes with the firmware version ZYCE and brings several new features and bug fixes to enhance the overall software experience. Since the majority of changes and additions have already been implemented, the update size isn’t huge — it’s only around 1.25GB.

As noted by SamMobile, the changelog is the same as the third One UI 7 beta update for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, which was released yesterday. This means we’re finally getting the Audio Eraser feature. This feature can identify up to six different types of sounds and lets you increase or decrease the volume of identified sounds in videos to enhance the audio experience. For example, you can lower or remove the voices of people chattering in the background and increase yours for better clarity.

The sixth One UI 7 beta for the Galaxy S24 series also brings an improved version of Sketch to Image, with the ability to give specific instructions to Galaxy AI while generating an image. Additionally, the update introduces the ability to summarize call recordings into text summaries.

Furthermore, the update includes deeper integration of Google Gemini. You can now access it quickly by holding the side button. The update allows you to create stickers and images and summarize web pages. It also enhances the Settings app with natural language search integration, enabling users to find settings using everyday language. For example, searching “my eyes are feeling tired” in Settings will suggest options like adjusting brightness or enabling Eye Comfort Shield.

The beta update also improves the battery animations at the top and includes fixes related to widget overlapping, media controller UI elements, and routines.

Samsung is rolling out the One UI 7 beta 6 update for the Galaxy S24 series in multiple countries, including India, Korea, and Germany. If you have a Galaxy S24 running One UI 7 beta, you can install the latest update by going to Settings > Software update and tapping on Download and install.

This could be the final One UI 7 beta for the Galaxy S24 series, as the stable rollout is only two weeks away. Past reports also indicate that the Galaxy S24 series would receive six beta updates. This means the next update could be the stable one.

The beta program typically doesn’t last that long, but that’s been the case with the Galaxy S24. Either previous betas have had too many bugs, or Samsung may have stretched it intentionally for whatever reason.

Samsung has now released another One UI 7.0 beta update for the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. This is the fifth and could be the final One UI 7.0 beta for the S24 series. The phones are set to receive the stable build next month. So, if this is the final beta, the stable update might be released in early April rather than a few weeks later.

What’s new in One UI 7 beta 5 for the Galaxy S24 series

The fifth One UI 7.0 beta update for the Galaxy S24 series is currently rolling out in India, Korea, Germany, Poland, the UK, and the US, with the firmware version ending with ‘ZYC6’. It has a download size of around 950MB. The update brings Samsung Log video recording support on the Galaxy S24 and S24+. This feature was added to Galaxy S24 Ultra with the fourth beta update. 

The fifth beta also brings several improvements in addition to a host of bug fixes. It resolves the Now Bar display issue, as well as issues related to lock screen notification, font/image partial overlap, icon size on the widget setting screen, and blur effect for widget transparency.

Samsung has also resolved the issues related to Notification history and the Edit button in the Gallery app. The update improves Media playback to display as a real-time notification.

If you’re already enrolled in the One UI 7.0 beta program on your Galaxy S24, you might have already received the newest beta update. If you haven’t, go to Settings > Software update and tap the Download and install option to check for new updates. The wait for a stable One UI 7 rollout has stretched too much, as Samsung is yet to upgrade a single Galaxy device to the latest software. However, now it seems the patience is about to pay off, at least for the Galaxy S24 series users, as the stable rollout might kick off anytime soon.

The One UI 7 beta testing for the Galaxy S24 series started in early December 2024, which has been stretched by Samsung beyond the patience level of many Galaxy fans, including myself. That’s why I recently wrote an article on how this massive delay could make people lose trust in Samsung’s software update policy.

Last week, the S24 series received its fourth One UI 7 beta after nearly one and a half months of releasing the third beta. This was too disappointing, but then a Samsung Community moderator from the One UI beta team announced that the stable version will be released very soon. A day after the fourth beta, the fifth beta went live, suggesting the stable release is almost here.

While we’re still waiting for an official announcement, reports say the stable version will be released sometime in March. This aligns with Samsung’s earlier promise of releasing the stable update to Galaxy S series devices in the first quarter. With that in mind, Galaxy S24 users should start making preparations for a smooth upgrade to One UI 7.

One UI 7 preparations for the Galaxy S24 series

1. Backup your data

Software updates rarely cause data loss, but why take the risk? Use Samsung’s Temporary cloud backup to store everything safely online for free (up to 100GB per file, available for 30 days). Go to Settings > Device care > Maintenance mode > Temporary cloud backup to get started. You can also use a Smart Switch or a USB cable to back up to a PC.

2. Update apps and software

Samsung updates its apps for One UI 7 compatibility, so make sure everything is up to date. Check Galaxy Store and Play Store for app updates. Also, make sure that you have the latest software available for your device by navigating to Settings > Software updates > Download and install to ensure your device is running the latest version.

3. Free up storage space

One UI 7 will be a big download, so make sure your Galaxy device has at least 5-10GB of free internal storage. This will also help your device run better overall.

4. Charge your phone

A major update like this can take time. Hence, it’s recommended to keep the battery level above 30% to avoid issues during the installation.

5. Wait and watch (if you want)

Samsung is struggling this year to provide stable One UI 7 software for its Galaxy devices. It started the One UI 7 beta program for the Galaxy S24 series in early December, and since then people have just been cluelessly waiting for the stable update. However, now it seems Samsung wants to wrap up the beta program and begin the stable rollout of One UI 7, starting with the Galaxy S24 series.

This week, Samsung released the fourth One UI 7 beta to the Galaxy S24 series. That brings a host of fixes and some new camera additions, such as AI filters and log video recording. Just a day after the fourth beta, the brand has released another beta update for the Galaxy S24 series, while the gap between the third and fourth beta was around one and a half months. This could mean Samsung wants to quickly fix all those existing issues and bring the stable update soon to the Galaxy S24 series.

The latest One UI 7, which just rolled out today, is tagged with firmware version ZYBB and has a download size of around 436MB. According to the changelog, it fixes an issue with the visual voicemail (VVM) crash. Is this the fifth beta or a hotfix for the fourth beta? Well, we can’t say for sure. But it’s good to see Samsung rolling out another update in just a day.

Recently, a One UI beta moderator on the Samsung Community said the stable version will be released very soon. He didn’t reveal anything about the release date or timeline, but if his words are true, the Galaxy S24 series may get the stable One UI 7 update in March. However, recent leaks say otherwise. According to leaks, Samsung might release at least two more One UI 7 beta updates to the Galaxy S24 series, and the stable version might arrive sometime in April once the Galaxy S25 Edge is released.

The One UI 7 stable rollout is already massively delayed. Samsung hasn’t updated a single Galaxy device to One UI 7, which is only frustrating users. This isn’t good for the brand, as many people are talking about switching to a different brand and questioning its future software rollouts. I strongly believe that Samsung should at least announce the One UI 7 rollout timeline.

As of right now, Samsung has only offered this update on the base Galaxy S24, so it has yet to arrive in the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Apple’s iPhone 15 led global smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2024, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro close behind, based on data from Counterpoint Research. This quarter is notable as it’s the first time the Pro models made up half of all iPhone sales during a third quarter.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 stayed in the top 10 for the third quarter in a row, and it’s the first time a Galaxy S model has been in the top 10 since 2018. Altogether, the top 10 models made up 19% of all smartphone sales worldwide in Q3 2024.

Apple held four of the top 10 spots, while Samsung had five, and Xiaomi held one. This lineup hasn’t changed much since last year, showing that consumer preferences are fairly steady.

One clear trend is the growing interest in high-end smartphones, as seen by the smaller gap between the base and Pro iPhone models. Apple’s marketing, payment options, and trade-in deals have helped make the latest iPhones more available to a wider range of buyers, especially in growing markets.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 also saw good results, partly due to a focus on GenAI features that appealed to buyers. iQOO 12 was released in December 2023 as a flagship smartphone. Though many flagship phones launched in between, it’s still one of the best at the price points it’s currently available for.

The iQOO smartphone rocks Qualcomm’s most powerful mobile SoC, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It features a high-quality screen, a gigantic camera setup on the back, and a large battery with super-fast charging support, making it ideal for anyone looking for a high-end smartphone.

However, there are alternatives from other brands that are better than the iQOO 12 in one or many ways. Here, I’ll show you the six best alternatives you can consider.

1. Samsung Galaxy S24 (Snapdragon)

The Galaxy S24 comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the US, Canada, and China, while other regions get the Exynos 2400 variant. We recommend the Snapdragon variant as it offers better performance and power efficiency.

The Xiaomi 14 (review) is also a compact flagship phone. So, it has a slightly smaller screen size but can produce 68 times more colors and supports Dolby Vision. The screen refresh rate is higher on the iQOO phone, though. However, it lacks protection, while the Xiaomi 14 has Corning Gorilla Glass. Unlike Xiaomi 14, the Vivo X100 has a curved display that’s around 6.6% bigger in size. The Xiaomi 14 uses an OLED panel, while the rest of the display specifications are almost similar.

The two phones have similar performance in daylight, but Xiaomi 14 shots are usually more detailed and sharper. iQOO 12 was released last year with a strong spec sheet. It boasts a slightly larger LTPO AMOLED screen than the Xiaomi 14 with a higher refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3000nits.

The iQOO device is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the same chip inside the Xiaomi 14. It’s the most powerful chip for Android phones, ensuring superior performance and efficiency.

Let’s get to the cameras. The iQOO 12’s main camera takes detailed, sharp daylight images with excellent dynamic range. The overall image processing is sound, but sometimes, you may observe various imperfections due to weak processing.

The telephoto cameras are excellent, offering great details, colours, right sharpness, and less noise. The dynamic range and overall contrast are also impressive. The 64MP high-res zoomed images are okay(ish) with a good amount of details, accurate colours and good dynamic range, but they are pretty noisy.

With iQOO 12, you can get as close as 5cm from a subject for macro shots, and the output is good. The macro shots from the telephoto camera at 3x zoom are also great. They have natural bokeh, better colour reproduction, and sharpness with a good amount of detail. The smartphone also takes excellent portrait and low-light photos.

All three rear cameras on the iQOO 12 can shoot up to 4K videos, while the main camera also supports 8K recording at 30fps. The 4K video recording using the main camera is average, as the picture looks washed out. Otherwise, it has good colours, contrast, and a wide dynamic range.

The low-light 4K footage is also mediocre. But the 4K 30fps Night Mode video is impressive – it’s bright and detailed with punchy colours and a wide dynamic range. Footage coming from the telephoto camera at 3x zoom is impressive – they have great details, sharpness, accurate colours, high contrast, and wide dynamic range. The device also takes good ultrawide videos in daylight.

The selfie camera isn’t impressive, though. It doesn’t support electronic stabilisation, although the colours are accurate, and the dynamic range is good. However, the end result is average. 

The iQOO 12 packs a larger battery, and its charging speed is also better than that of the Xiaomi 14.

The smartphone takes good daylight shots with nicer details, consistent white balance, and good saturation. The ultrawide camera also shoots great images. It also has an autofocus that enables both general close-up shots and macro shots. 

The Pixel 8 does an impressive job in low-light conditions, all thanks to good image processing. However, the portrait shots are just acceptable. The device takes nice selfies with good details. The video quality of the Pixel 8’s main camera is impressive. The ultrawide camera outputs an average video quality at night but does a fantastic job in daylight.

The Pixel 8 has a slightly lesser battery capacity than the Xiaomi 14, but the difference in changing speeds is big — 27W on the Pixel 8 and 90W on the Xiaomi 14.

The impressive software update policy is one aspect where the Pixel 8 leaves the Xiaomi 14 in the dust. The Pixel 8 will get seven years of Android updates, while the Xiaomi 14 will only get four.

The story is the same with other benchmarks like AnTuTu, so it’s safe to say that the Pixel 9 isn’t that great when it comes to tasks like gaming. That being said, thanks to its optimization, you won’t notice any hiccups while multi-tasking and day-to-day operations.

Moving over to the battery department, the Pixel 9 boasts a bigger 4,700mAh battery paired with 27W wired and 15W wireless charging. In contrast, the Galaxy S24 has a 4,000mAh battery supported by 25W wired and 15W wireless charging.

Users in Canada, Germany, Italy, and other European regions have reported receiving the update with the build number AXBG. Below are the software build numbers for all the three devices in the series:

Although Samsung’s changelog doesn’t delve into specific changes, the highlight undoubtedly remains the inclusion of the March security patch. For the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the update weighs around 756MB, while other models in the series come in at approximately 428MB.

Samsung remains consistently among the leading smartphone manufacturers in releasing monthly security updates. While the February 2024 update arrived slightly later than usual for flagship Galaxy devices, Samsung is back on schedule with the March update, releasing it even ahead of Google.

Other Galaxy phones, such as the Galaxy S23 and Z Fold 5,  are expected to receive the March patch later in the month. This aligns with Samsung’s confirmation that the One UI 6.1 update, featuring Galaxy AI capabilities, will reach these devices in late March. 

The update will introduce features such as Circle to Search, AI-powered wallpapers, Generative Edits for images, Note Assistant, and more.
To check for the AXBG firmware update on your Galaxy S24, navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Carrier-locked devices may have a slightly longer wait, but unlocked models worldwide should receive the update within the next few days.

Concerns regarding the camera quality were initially raised by a user in Samsung’s official forum. In response, a moderator revealed that Samsung is actively working on optimizing the camera of Galaxy S24 based on valuable user feedback collected from various sources.

They revealed they are working on improving color accuracy and refining the “3D effect” when compared to previous Galaxy S models. 

While user feedback indicates an overall improvement in the S24 cameras compared to the S23, there are still some reported issues. 

This includes noise and banding in low-light skies, slight overexposure in daylight, and limited dynamic range around specific light sources in low-light conditions (via SamMobile). Some users have also noted detail loss in certain textures. So these issues should also be addressed in the upcoming camera update.

However, Samsung did not provide a specific timeframe for these camera-fixing updates, they’ll likely be included in the first few software releases.

In related Samsung news, the company has confirmed that the upcoming software update will also solve another Galaxy S24 series issue where users are complaining that their screen is not bright enough and the colors don’t appear as they should. According to some users on Reddit, Galaxy S24 Ultra’s screen is not bright enough, and the colors do not appear as they should. Furthermore, this issue is not visible on the Galaxy S24 Ultra but also affects the Galaxy S24 and S24+.

Users report that the screen of Galaxy S24 Ultra lacks sufficient brightness and fails to accurately represent colors. For instance, you may experience distorted colors on the home screen or with any app open, but during video playback, the display of the Galaxy S24 Ultra works as expected. Apparently, this is not a hardware defect, and Samsung needs to release an update promptly. Note that this issue is happening only when you turn on the vivid mode on settings.

Forbes revealed that Samsung is working on this issue through an online chat screenshot of a user and a Samsung employee. The user also asked about when Samsung would resolve this problem, but Samsung cannot provide a specific timeframe for the display issue of Galaxy S24 Ultra.

They have replied with “I understand that you want a time and date for this coming software update, but please we need your patience on this matter. Rest assured that the developer team will work on this as soon as possible. For now please keep your device connected to your Wi-Fi, so that the automatic update can enter to your device software.”
