ZTE’s sub-brand Nubia has recently launched the Z18 Mini smartphone and the company is now prepping up to launch the Nubia Z18 flagship phone. Today, Nubia CEO Ni Fei has released a new poster on his Weibo account to confirm that the Z18 will be equipped with Full Screen 3.0 design. Recent reports have revealed that the model number of the upcoming Nubia Z18 is NX606J. The same model number has been found benchmarked on Master Lu through which some of its key specs have been revealed.

Shown aboveis Z18’s new teaser that has been shared by Ni Fei. The leaked schematics of the Nubia Z18 and its images that have surfaced through the TENAA listing have shown that it will be featuring a round-shaped notch like the Essential Phone. Thankfully, Nubia Z18 won’t be featuring a notched design like the iPhone X. In fact, the Z18 will offer higher screen-to-body ratio than the recent notched display smartphones. He added that the Z18 will offering larger screen space than the Nubia Z17S that was launched in October with a screen-to-body ratio of 90.36 percent.

At the beginning of the year, the NX606J smartphone was found benchmarked on AnTuTu. The same model has also received certification through TENAA authority China. Through Master Lu benchmarks, it has been once again revealed that the Snapdragon 845 chipset will be powering the NX606J Nubia Z18 along with 6 GB of RAM. The exact size of the display has not been revealed through Master Lu listing, but it has been found that it offers 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution.

According to the TENAA listing of NX606J measures 148.58 x 72.54 x 8.5mm and it features a 5.99-inch display. In terms of dimensions, the Nubia Z18 seems to be similar to Z17S that has a 5.73-inch display housed in a body that measures 147.5 x 72.7 x 8.5mm. Apart from 64 GB storage + 6 GB RAM model, there will be a higher model with 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. It features a 3,350mAh battery and runs on Android 8.0 Oreo.

One of the dual rear camera sensors of the Nubia Z18 is of 24-megapixel and it has a selfie snapper of 8-megapixel. The fingerprint scanner resides on the rear panel of the Z18. The TENAA images of the phone have revealed that it will be featuring a dedicated key on the left edge of the phone for launching the voice assistant. The handset is expected to be available in black and gold color options.

“King of Glory” published by Tencent Games is a highly popular mobile game in China. After a recent gaming event in Shenzhen, Nubia CEO Ni Fei confirmed that the company is planning to build a gaming phone.

Ni Fei did not reveal any information on the upcoming gaming phone from the company. It is speculated that the forthcoming Nubia Z18 flagship would be built to handle hardcore games. The Z18 is rumored to arrive with a borderless full screen design and it is likely to feature Snapdragon 845 chipset. Since the Nubia Z17 and Nubia Z17S are packed with 8 GB of RAM, there is a high possibility that Nubia Z18 may also feature 8 GB of RAM. These specs suggest that the Nubia Z18 will be capable at handling high-end gaming.

The Weibo post through which Ni Fei confirmed that the company is working on a gaming phone contains some images. One of the images show a mysterious smartphone with the “King of Glory” game running on it. There is no confirmation on whether the unidentified phone is the Nubia Z18 or the Nubia Z17S phone that was launched in October last year. The handset features very narrow side bezels which appears quite similar to the Nubia Z17S.

In November last year, Razer had unveiled a high-end gaming smartphone called Razer Phone. It features a 5.7-inch IGZO IPS LCD screen that supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It is driven by Snapdragon 835, 8 GB of RAM and 4,000mAh battery. The rumored specs of the Nubia Z18 suggests that it will be able to handle high-end gaming. There is a possibility that the smartphone may feature a display that offers a high refresh rate like the Razer Phone. Since the Nubia Z17 phone was launched in June last year, it is speculated that Nubia Z18 may debut by mid-2018.

This year 2017 has successfully coveted the crown as the year of bezel-less smartphones. We have lost count of the numbers of full-screen smartphones that have been launched this year. We even can’t say in clear terms what makes a smartphone “bezel-less”. Just as the full-screen models are numerous, so too are their designs. The flagship Samsung Galaxy S8 and Mi Mix 2 both utilises different designs. So too is the Sharp Aquos S2 and iPhone X having their own unique design.

Chinese smartphone maker Nubia, a brand of ZTE had also joined the full-screen race with the Nubia Z17s which was released earlier this year. It seems the tech giant is already working on a second bezel-less smartphone. The renders and schematics of the Nubia bezel-less phone have appeared in two separate leaks.

Th schematics and renders were said to have been spotted at the Chinese Patent Office which could be an indication that the phone might be hitting the market very soon. The design comes with a notch at the top just like that of the Essential phone. The round notch houses the selfie camera and is highlighted with a red ring. Aside from the notch, the device is completely bezel-less at the top and two edges.

At the rear, the device features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor in the middle which takes the shape of Nubia’s logo with a dot at the bottom right corner. We can’t say if the model will be Nubia first flagship for 2018.

OnePlus 5T vs Nubia Z17s: Design and build quality

OnePlus 5T does not offer an incredibly unique design, but it is a beautiful phone and it is solid. It has a size of 156.1 x 75 x 7.3 mm (so it is very thin) and a weight of 162 grams. From its look, it is easy to realize that this device is a flagship: the company has put efforts into its details and the device is very ergonomic, but it is far from being a revolution. Nubia Z17s is “the elegance in person”. It has a back cover made of glass which reflects the light creating very suggestive waves: an effect which reminds of Honor 8 and 9, two phones that are considered among the best in terms of design in the affordable flagship segment. The frame is made of aluminum like almost every premium phone. The size of the device is 147.5 x 72.7 x 8.5 mm, for a weight of 170 grams. There is a borderless screen here as well, and the screen-to-body ratio is even bigger than the one of the OP5T. Due to this aspect and its smaller display, the phone is much more compact than its opponent. The glasses are protected by the Gorilla Glass technology but the version has not been specified.

OnePlus 5T vs Nubia Z17s: Display

The displays from these handsets seem similar but they are not.

The screen of OnePlus 5T has a size of 6.01 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels, an 18:9 aspect ratio and three important technologies: Optic AMOLED, DCI-P3, and sRGB. Thanks to these technologies, the wonderful display of this device can offer outstanding colors and very deep blacks. The detail is not the maximum for a flagship, but the viewing angles and its brightness are satisfying.

Nubia Z17s has a smaller display with a size of 5.73 inches. It offers the LTPS IPS LCD technology, a 17:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution with 1080 x 2040 pixels (slightly inferior to the FHD+ resolution of OP5T). Colors are nice and brightness is great, but this screen is not at the same level of the one from OP5T. Further, 17:9 is an unusual aspect ratio and it may create more imperfections in the viewing experience with videos and apps (e.g. unusual black bars at the sides, with both 16:9 and 18:9 content). So the display from OnePlus 5T seems better on paper.

OnePlus 5T vs Nubia Z17s: Hardware

The difference between these phones in terms of hardware and performances is minimum.

OnePlus 5T sports an octa-core Snapdragon 835 SoC by Qualcomm which runs at a max frequency of 2.45 GHz. It has been launched in two configurations with different prices: one has 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, while the most powerful one has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The memory (type: UFS 2.1, the fastest ever used on a phone) is not expandable with a micro SD, but there is a dual SIM slot with dual standby technology. The phone can be charged via a USB Type C port, it has Wi-Fi connectivity 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.0.

Nubia Z17s has an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset as well, with a max frequency of 2.45 GHz. The configurations are exactly the same as OP5T: one has 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, another has 8 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM. In terms of connectivity, there is a dual SIM slot (no micro SD slot) with dual standby technology, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.1.

Now lets’ talk about performances: they are both among the fastest phones ever. Their speed is incredible as well as their smoothness and stability. You can play every game with these phones and you will obtain a very high frame rate as well as high details. There are no limits, even multi-tasking works like a charm with a very high number of opened apps. Nubia Z17s is one of the 10 best phones on benchmarks according to AnTuTu, with a score of 179,454 points. OP5T has still not been tested by AnTuTu, but its predecessor OP5 has been defined the best Android phone on benchmarks with 181,288 points, and its successor has exactly the same hardware.

OnePlus 5T vs Nubia Z17s: Software

OnePlus 5T has been announced with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and we will need to wait for the first months of 2018 to see the final update to Android 8.0 Oreo. The user interface has been customized with OxygenOS, but there are not so many customizations. The experience is similar to the one offered by stock Android, there is just a low amount of additional features. Among the most important features, there is facial unlock which uses facial recognition to unlock the phone very fastly.

Nubia Z17s has Android 7.1 Nougat installed, together with the Nubia UI 5.0. Here there are more customizations and they regard both graphics and features. The user interface is much easier to use and intuitive thanks to improved graphics and rapid options accessible with gestures. There are also useful features like Online Themes, the one to clone apps and much more.

OnePlus 5T vs Nubia Z17s: Camera

OnePlus 5T has a dual camera setup composed of sensors by Sony with resolutions of 16 + 20 MP and a f/1.7 aperture. The camera has been improved to have great performances in low-light conditions. It can shoot detailed photos in every situation and well stabilized 4K videos thanks to EIS. OP5T is not the best camera phone in the market, but it is a great device in terms of photo and video quality.

Nubia Z17s has a dual camera with resolutions of 12 + 23 MP, it can do an excellent 2x optical zoom and its apertures are f/1.8 and f/2.0. A high-end camera in this case too, but it is not at the same level of its opponent. OnePlus 5T can shoot more detailed photos and it can adapt better to low light conditions. So OP5T wins the camera comparison, even though Z17s has a dual camera on the front side as well, which is very interesting.

OnePlus 5T vs Nubia Z17s: Battery

Even if OnePlus 5T has a very big display, it does not offer a huge battery. The battery of this phone has a capacity of 3300 mAh and it supports fast charging due to the Dash Charge technology. Even though we are talking about an average capacity (for a flagship released in 2017), the battery life is satisfying since the software is optimized very well. You can arrive at the end of the evening with an intensive use without any problem, even though your battery will not last much more than that.

Nubia Z17s has an even smaller battery: its capacity is just 3100 mAh, but it has the most efficient fast charging technology by Qualcomm: Quick Charge 4.0, which makes the phone reach 50% of battery in just 25 minutes of charging. The battery life should be more than sufficient thanks to the nice optimization usually provided by the company.

OnePlus 5T vs Nubia Z17s: Price

OnePlus 5T and Nubia Z17s are among the cheapest flagship phones.

OnePlus 5T can be purchased all around the world with a price tag of 499 euros/dollars in the lower end version with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, and 569 euros/dollars in the version with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM.

In China, Nubia Z17s has a price of 2999 Yuan for the lower end version and 3999 Yuan for the most powerful one. If we talk about street prices, with a bit of luck it is possible to find it at just 479 dollars or 399 euros in online stores which can also ship outside China. OnePlus 5T and Nubia Z17s are both very convenient flagships, but Z17s can be found at a lower price. The only problem is the fact that it is harder to find Nubia Z17s in every nation, while it is very easy to find OP5T: you just need to head to the official site.

OnePlus 5T vs Nubia Z17s: Winner

It is very hard to decide which is better between these wonderful handsets. While OnePlus 5T has a superior display, better performances, a longer battery life and it can shoot better photos, Nubia Z17s offers a more good-looking design and a software with more features and improvements over stock Android, as well as a lower price. OnePlus 5T wins the comparison, but note that the difference is not much, so if you buy its opponent you would still make an excellent purchase.

French smartphone company, Archos, is not new to rebranding phones and offering it in markets where it has a presence. For example, the Archos Diamond Alpha is a rebranded Nubia M2. If you like Nubia’s latest smartphone, the Z17S, but live in Europe, you should check out the Archos Diamond Omega.

Save for the Archos name that replaces the Nubia branding on the back of the phone, both devices are the same. Archos doesn’t do anything to even change the user experience.

On the official site, the Diamond Omega is said to run Android 7.1 based on NUBIA UI 5.0. It is also said to feature Nubia’s NeoPower 3.0 battery saving technology.

The Archos Diamond Omega has a 5.73-inch FHD display with a 2.5D Gorilla Glass on top. There is a Snapdragon 835 processor on board paired with 8GB of RAM. You also get 128GB of storage. These are the specs of the high end version of the Nubia Z17S.

There are dual cameras on both sides. You have a 12MP f/1.8 sensor paired with a 23MP f/2.0 sensor with 2X lossless zoom on the rear. The front cameras are two 5MP sensors with support for background blur effect.

The phone has dual SIM support (nano only), Bluetooth 4.1, dual band Wi-Fi, and a FM Radio. Supported LTE bands are 800/900/1800/2100/2600. Battery capacity is 3,100mAh and it comes with a 9V/2A fast charger.

Today, at a press event in Beijing, China, Nubia has launched its latest smartphone — Nubia Z17S, along with Nubia Z17 MiniS.

The Nubia Z17S comes with a bezel-less full-screen display, which has become a norm these days. Almost every company is now coming out with a bezel-less smartphone — a trend that started with Xiaomi Mi MIX.

It comes with a 5.73-inch display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2040 pixels and pixel density of 403ppi. The screen has an aspect ratio of about 17:9 and sports DCI-P3 wide colour gamut, with colour saturation of 96 percent.

There is a layer of Gorilla Glass 4 on top of the display for added protection. To make space for the bigger display, the company’s trademark red-circled home button has been removed.

The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm‘s flagship Snapdragon 835 octa-core 64-bit processor, clocked at 2.45GHz along with Adreno 540 GPU. The device is available in two variants — one with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while other with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

Camera department has been the strength of Nubia’s smartphones, and this one too follows the suit. The phone features four cameras — two at the back and two at front.

The Nubia Z17S comes with a dual camera setup at the back. It has a 12-megapixel primary camera and a 23-megapixel auxiliary camera. It has 1.4-micron pixels, f/1.8 aperture, and 6P optical lens. The camera supports 2X optical zoom and 10X digital zoom. It comes with additional features such as 3D noise reduction. It comes with a layer of sapphire protection lens.

The camera comes with the all-new NeoVision 7.0 image engine. It has AI Portrait mode — an algorithm for personality learning for additional features such as face recognition, edge processing, 3D beauty, level enhancement, among others.

On the front, it features a 5-megapixel dual camera setup with an 80-degrees wide angle lens and f/2.2 aperture. It also supports background blur and beauty mode along with multi-effect filter.

The phone supports 4G LTE along with the usual set of connectivity options, which includes Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. There is one port on the device — USB Type C.

It is powered by a 3,100mAh non-removable battery which supports 26W fast charging that can charge the phone up to 50% in 25 minutes. Even though the battery capacity is smaller, the company claims that it can last for up to one and a half day as it is optimized by NeoPower 3.0 — a power saving technology.

The 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model of Nubia Z17S is priced at 2,999 Yuan, while the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant costs 3,999 Yuan. It comes in two colour options — Black Gold and Blue. The phone is available for pre-order and will go on sale from 19th October.

The upcoming ZTE Nubia Z17S and Z17 Mini S have appeared on 3C page of Jingdong. These phones were momentarily made available for registrations on the retailer site and then removed. This suggests that the Chinese manufacturer will be unleashing not only the rumored Z17S flagship phone on Oct. 12, but also a smaller phone dubbed as Z17 Mini S.

Nubia Z17 Mini S

Let’s talk about the Z17 Mini S first. Last year, ZTE had introduced ZTE Nubia Z11 Mini in April and in October it had released an upgraded model with Z11 Mini S moniker. Compared to Nubia 11 Mini, its upgraded model came numerous improvements like larger display, better chipset, better cameras, and bigger battery. It seems that the Chinese manufacturer will be adopting the same strategy this year.

In April this year, the company had released the ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini and it appears that NX589J Nubia phone that was certified by TENAA in the previous may launch as ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini S. The TENAA listing has revealed that the Z17 Mini S would be coming with a 5.2-inch full HD display like Z17 Mini.

The Snapdragon 653 along with 6 GB of RAM powers the Z17 Mini. However, the Z17 Mini S is expected to feature 2.0 GHz octa-core processor and 6 GB of RAM. Like the Z17 Mini, the newer model is pegged to feature 64 GB storage.

The most striking difference between the two phones is that the Z17 Mini S features dual front and rear cameras. The Z17 Mini has a 2,950mAh battery and the Z17 Mini S is speculated to house a larger battery of 3,100mAh capacity.

Nubia Z17S

The Chinese manufacturer has been teasing the full-screen 2.1 design that will be introduced on its upcoming phone that will be launching on Oct. 12. Speculations have it that the NX595J Nubia phone that was certified by TENAA recently could be the Z17S flagship phone.

The Nubia Z17 was announced in June this year. It is packed with a true bezel-less display of 5.5 inches and is driven by Snapdragon 835 chipset and 8 GB of RAM. It measures 152.6 x 72.4 x 7.6mm.

The TENAA listing of alleged Nubia Z17S has revealed that it measures 147.5 x 72.7 x 8.6mm. It appears to be a smaller and thicker device that houses a larger FHD display of 5.73 inches as compared to the Nubia Z17. It does not feature an elongated 18:9 display as the FHD resolution suggests that it will be offering an aspect ratio of 16:9. Since it includes a bigger screen, the usual red-circled Home button that was found below the display has been removed.

The alleged Z17S is powered by 1.8 GHz processor which is slower than the clocking speed of Snapdragon 835 that powers the Z17. Hence, it may feature a different chipset. It is also expected to feature 8 GB of RAM. Like the Z17 Mini S, the larger Z17S also features dual front and rear cameras.

Nubia is also set to join the train with the upcoming Nubia Z17s which is expected to pack a bezel-less design. With just two days left before the official launch, the tech giant has once again released another teaser, this time a video teaser which reveals some key features of the Z17s. The major highlight of the Nubia Z17s  which the video projects is not even the bezel-less design but the presence of a Quad camera set up on the flagship model. The Z17s is expected to pack a dual camera setup at the front and at the rear aspects. The short video teaser features what should be renders of the device showing the four cameras. Both the front and the rear dual cameras will be tilted towards the left corner. In addition, the video also confirms the Z17s would come with a curved edge design at the rear and front while the display will have ultra-slim bezels at the sides.

We can revisit the TENAA appearance of the Nubia NX589J believed to be the Nubia Z17s. The TENAA listing reveals the Nubia phone features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 6GB RAM, 64GB expandable storage, a dual camera setup in which the main sensor is 13MP. There is also a 16MP front camera and a 3100mAh battery. In addition, the device is expected to run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. For a while now, we have been inundated with rumours of a Nubia full-screen phone which latest poster hints would be launched on October 12. Ahead of its apparent launch, the Nubia full-screen model which is believed to go by the name- Nubia Z17s, has appeared in a live photo showing the front display panel. Well, we can’t authenticate if this is actually what Nubia will be unveiling in a couple of days from now.

The image looks like a full-screen photo alright, but what makes it of greater interest is a degree of bezels on the part in view. The device looks completely bezel-less on all sides with the chin having ultra-thin bezels and the top and bottom edges also appear to have no bezels. With such a design, this could at best be a concept render even though Nubia touts the Z17s as coming with full-Screen 2.1.

A Nubia phone fingered to be the full-screen model did appear on TENAA recently clutching the model number NX589J. The TENAA listing reveals the Nubia phone sports a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 6GB RAM, 64GB expandable storage, a dual camera setup in which the main sensor is 13MP. There is also a 16MP front camera and a 3100mAh battery. In addition, the device is expected to run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS and would have a curved edge design at the rear. We must note that the photos which accompanied the TENAA listing are markedly different from this latest leaked photo. Until the model is official, we can’t be so sure the upcoming Nubia full-screen phone will have such a spectacularly bezel-less design. So, it is best you take this with a pinch of salt as it could be fake.

A new Nubia smartphone has been certified by the Chinese Telecoms regulatory agency TENAA and it looks like this is the full-screen phone Nubia is rumoured to be working on. The Nubia device has the model number NX589J and the photos attached to the TENAA listing shows a full-screen design with tiny bezels at the chin and a reduced bezels at the top and bottom bezels.

The Nubia NX589J model which is expected to be named Nubia Z17s is listed with a 5.2-inch 1080P display and would get its juice from a 3100mAh battery. The mobile phone will sport a dual camera setup at the rear, with the main sensor being a 13MP sensor. The device will also pack a 16MP camera up front. TENAA has not revealed the processor but it is listed as having a frequency of 2.0 GHz and should be a Snapdragon 835 chip. The Nubia full-screen phone also comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage which is expandable. Providing the interface will be Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS while there are dual SIM slots inside.

A render of the Nubia full-screen phone was only spotted recently but Nubia is yet to disclose when the model will be officially launched.
