Xiaomi Auto hosted another session of their “Q&A program” to answer user inquiries about the Xiaomi SU7 electric car. The company revealed that the SU7 prioritizes long journeys with its Super Power-Saving Mode. When the estimated range dips below 50km, the car prompts you to activate this mode, maximizing battery life. Manual activation and deactivation are also available.

The Power Saving mode also turns off heated seats and steering wheel

Super Power-Saving Mode reduces power consumption by limiting functionalities. This includes a capped speed of 90km/h, smoother acceleration, and reduced air conditioning performance. Comfort features like heated seats and steering wheel, ambient lighting, and heated mirrors are also deactivated.

To further conserve energy, the mode disables intelligent driving assistance, parking functions, entertainment systems, and even the car refrigerator. Don’t worry, Super Power-Saving Mode deactivates automatically when the estimated range climbs above 300km. Drivers can also temporarily override the speed limit for short bursts when needed.

Also, the SU7 features a camera positioned between the steering wheel and instrument screen to monitor driver alertness. This camera detects signs of fatigue or distraction like closed eyes, head turns, or phone use.

If fatigue or distraction is detected, the system issues voice warnings and displays on-screen reminders to refocus on driving. Xiaomi assures users that the system only analyzes driver behavior locally within the vehicle, with no image data recorded or transmitted externally. Users who don’t require the driver fatigue/distraction reminder can disable the function or the camera itself through the car’s central control screen settings.

Meta Platforms has unveiled details about their next-generation artificial intelligence chip, codenamed “Artemis.” This chip is designed to address the ever-increasing need for processing power required to run AI features across their social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

This launch means that Meta will rely less on external suppliers like Nvidia

The development of Artemis addresses two key goals for Meta. Firstly, it reduces their dependence on external suppliers like Nvidia for AI chips. This shift will not only give Meta more control over their hardware but also help them reduce energy costs. Secondly, according to a Meta blog post, the chip’s architecture is specifically designed to optimize the balance between computing power, memory bandwidth, and memory capacity. This makes Artemis ideal for powering ranking and recommendation systems, a critical function for social media platforms.

However, the development of Artemis doesn’t signal the end of Meta’s relationship with Nvidia. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed plans to continue acquiring a substantial number of Nvidia’s H100 flagship chips this year. Together with acqusitions from other suppliers, Meta expects to have a combined total of 600,000 AI chips in 2024.

Made by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) using a 5nm process, Artemis boasts three times the performance of Meta’s first-generation AI processor. The chip is already deployed in Meta’s data centers, actively supporting various AI applications. Additionally, Meta has plans to further expand the chip’s capabilities to handle generative AI workloads in the future.

While these phones have passed Samsung’s initial software support timeframe, they won’t be completely left behind in terms of security, Samsung claims. Instead of the usual monthly updates, Samsung is transitioning these models to a new schedule of quarterly security patches. This means you’ll receive security updates every three months for an unspecified duration.

However its unclear if Samsung will extend support for the S20 FE as well

The news is slightly better for the Galaxy S20 FE. This model will continue to receive monthly security updates for a while longer. It’s unclear yet whether Samsung will extend support for the S20 FE with quarterly updates after its four-year software support cycle ends.

Released in February 2020, the Samsung Galaxy S20 boasts a large 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Following earlier reports hinting at potentially offering the Magic Editor for free to all users, Google now has announced it’s making several AI-powered editing tools, previously exclusive to Pixel phones and Google One subscribers, free for all users starting May 15th.

Free AI Editing Tools for Everyone: Google Photos Gets a Big Upgrade

Magic Eraser, a favorite for removing unwanted objects from photos, is now free for all Google Photos users. The tool can remove anything that disrupts your perfect shot, including people in the background, power lines, or anything else.

But that’s not all. Google is also making Photo Unblur free, which sharpens blurry photos using machine learning. Plus, you’ll get features like HDR effect for photos and videos, Portrait Light for adjusting light in portraits, and Color Pop to make specific colors stand out.

Alongside these tools, Google is also making the popular Magic Editor free. This tool uses advanced AI to allow you to make complex edits. You can reposition subjects, change the sky, fill in gaps, and more. Previously only on Pixel 8 phones, Magic Editor will now be available on all Pixel devices.

For everyone else (Android and iOS users with compatible devices), Google offers 10 free Magic Editor edits per month. You’ll need a Google One Premium plan (with at least 2TB of storage) if you need more.

These new features will be available on various devices, including Android phones running 8.0 or later, iPhones with iOS 15 or later (with at least 3GB of RAM), and even Pixel tablets. Xiaomi is working on a new HyperOS-powered phone called the Redmi 13. The device was recently spotted on various certification platforms. Now, it has surfaced on two more major platforms, which hints at its imminent launch.

Redmi 13 spotted on IMDA & EEC

The Chinese tech giant’s upcoming Redmi 13 was previously spotted on the FCC and IMEI databases. It was seen carrying the 24049RN28L model number on both platforms. But on IMDA and EEC, this smartphone surfaced with the 2404ARN45A model number. Unfortunately, the latest sightings did not reveal any other details regarding the Redmi 13 apart from this model number. But it does hint at the official announcement being right around the corner.

The IMEI listing confirmed the Redmi 13 moniker while the FCC certification confirmed the HyperOS 1.0 custom skin, which is based on Android 14. The latter also revealed that it will be powered by a 4,930mAh rated battery capacity that will likely have a 5,000mAh typical capacity. This battery supports up to 33W wired fast charging as well. Just a week ago, a fresh report confirmed some exclusive info about the Redmi 13.

Xiaomi is apparently referring to the handset with the codename “moon” and model numbers “N19A/C/E/L.” Some versions of this device will support NFC while others will ship without it. The model numbers of the different variants were also revealed, namely 2404ARN45A, 2404ARN45I, 24040RN64Y, and 24049RN28L. Based on what we know so far, the Redmi 13 might be a rebranded POCO M6, which is a budget-grade model. Although, we still have no official word about this, so take this news with a pinch of salt for now.

Qualcomm is working on three new mid-range mobile phone processors according to Android Headlines. These processors, identified by model numbers SM4635, SM6650, and SM7635, are expected to fall under the Snapdragon 4, 6, and 7 series respectively based on Qualcomm’s naming conventions.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro will be the first smartphone to sport the SM7635 chipset

The code name for the SM4635 is “pitti,” while both SM6650 and SM7635 share the code name “volcano.” Earlier information from Roland Quandt in February suggests SM4635 is the Snapdragon 4 Gen 3. Back then, he mentioned the “Kalpeni” project testing a memory configuration of 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage for this chip. For reference, the previous generations of Snapdragon 4 series processors, the 4 Gen 1 and 4 Gen 2, used model numbers SM4375 and SM4450 respectively.

For the “volcano” processors, SM6650 and SM7635, rumors suggest Qualcomm might be following a similar strategy as with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 (SM6450) and 7s Gen 2 (SM7435). These two processors, codenamed “parrot,” shared similar specifications. Here, Android Headlines predicts that the SM7635 might not outperform the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 but will still offer significant improvements, strengthening Qualcomm’s position in the mid-range SoC market. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro is rumored to be one of the first devices equipped with this processor. While specific details about these processors remain unknown, we can expect more information to surface in the near future.

Xiaomi has officially launched its new Xiaomi TV S85 featuring a Mini-LED panel. The 85-inch 4K TV boasts a 144Hz refresh rate and is priced at 7,999 yuan (approximately $1215 USD). The Xiaomi TV S85 features a Mini-LED panel with 640 partitions and a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits. It also supports Xiaomi Qingshan eye protection technology, a 12 million:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut for vivid and accurate colors.

The TV comes equipped with a four-unit speaker system, a quad-core A73 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, 1 HDMI 2.0 port, 1 USB-A 3.0 port, 1 USB-A 2.0 port, and an AV interface. The brand’s upcoming Edge 50 Ultra surfaced on the GeekBench platform with top-notch hardware. It is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, which is coupled with 12GB of RAM. This processor also comes with an Adreno 735 GPU. Thanks to these specs, it managed to score 1947 points in the single-core test, and 5149 points in the multi-core test.

The popular benchmarking platform also lists the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra running on Android 14 OS out of the box. Earlier this month, the design of the Edge 50 Ultra was teased in a video, showcasing a curved edge display. Based on what we know so far, the Edge 50 Ultra is expected to be the rebranded Moto X50 Ultra, which is set to launch in China soon. Pixel Experience development shuts down, project owner announces

Google Pixel phones are known for receiving Android updates the fastest, so Google should prioritize its own devices as expected. Google initially introduces the features that it releases to the public on Pixel devices. It’s a great idea for an Android fan to use a Pixel smartphone, but there’s a catch, Google Pixel smartphones are only sold in specific regions. So everyone is not lucky enough to own a Pixel.

No more new Pixel Experience updates

Pixel Experience project was initially launched in 2017, aiming to bring some exclusive Pixel features to non-Pixel Android devices. This allowed users to enjoy certain Pixel-exclusive features and the aesthetically pleasing stock Android UI provided by Google on their non-Pixel devices.

Henrique Silva, the owner of the Pixel Experience project, made an announcement on his website, stating, “Everything has to come to an end, sometime…” The Pixel Experience project is officially coming to a close.

While Henrique Silva did not provide detailed reasons for ending the project, he mentioned that the Pixel Experience website will remain accessible, meaning users can still download and install old builds. However, there won’t be any further updates. The termination of development for Pixel Experience, which was quite popular within the Android community, is indeed saddening.
