Redmi‘s under development model with model number 24069RA21C has passed China’s 3C quality certification. This phone is expected to be the successor of the Redmi Note 12 Turbo, launched back in March last year. Let’s go through what we know so far about this upcoming Redmi device.
Redmi Note 12 Turbo
Firstly, the 3C certification details reveal the charging capacity of the alleged Redmi Note 13 Turbo. This phone supports power input of up to 5-20VDC 6.1-4.5A(90W Max).
According to previous reports, the Note 13 Turbo could feature a 5000 mAh battery and a 1.5K OLED display. Regarding the chipset, the Redmi Note 13 Turbo / Poco F6 could feature the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip after the Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro, which has just released in China and will reportedly remain exclusive to China and India. In fact, Redmi has already announced the adoption of the new chip in one of its upcoming phones.
Speaking of the global version of this phone, the Poco F6, it is expected to be launched in April. Redmi’s product director and manager Wang Teng Thomas has previously said that their investment required to adopt the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip is significantly higher as compared to that of last year’s 7 series chip.
The predecessor Redmi Note 12 Turbo came with support for 67W charging, which makes the 90W charging of its alleged successor a significant upgrade. It also offered a 5000 mAh battery. This phone equipped the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chip and was available in storage and memory configuration starting from 8GB+356GB all the way up to 16GB+1TB. This phone was priced at 1,999 (~$290) for the 8GB + 256GB configuration while the 16GB + 1TB version came with a price tag of RMB 2,799 (~$405) at launch.
Honor CEO Zhao Ming recently confirmed that the company will launch a flip-style foldable phone this year. Today, a Chinese leaker shared a mock render to showcase the rear design of the alleged Honor Magic Flip (tentative name). Here is a look at what to expect from its design.
Honor Magic Flip design
The leaker claims that the Magic Flip has been in development for more than two years and will officially launch by the end of this year’s second quarter.
The Magic Flip will mark the company’s debut in the compact foldable phone market. Whether the image above is a leaked official render or a representation of the actual device remains uncertain. Nonetheless, it seems that the final product will closely resemble the depiction in the render.
As can be seen, the Honor Magic Flip will sport a massive cover display like the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. In addition, it has a vertically arranged dual camera system. The lower half appears to be made of plain leather.
Honor Magic Flip render
As per reports, the Honor Magic Flip aims to be the thinnest and lightest in the industry, providing users with a genuine candy bar experience. Recent leaks have claimed that the device will be equipped with a 4,500mAh dual-cell battery, but its other details are under wraps. In China, the device is expected to rival the upcoming Xiaomi Mix Flip and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 devices.
In addition to the Magic Flip, the company is expected to launch two more foldable display phones this year. These include the Magic V3 with an inward folding design and the V Purse 2 with an outward folding design.

Apple‘s upcoming developer conference, WWDC 2024, might see the introduction of an AI App Store. This could be a major shift in Apple’s AI strategy. Traditionally, Apple develops its own apps and integrates AI features into its operating systems. However, analyst Ben Reitzes believes Apple might prioritize creating a platform for various AI apps from different developers.
Rumors suggest that Apple has communicated with companies like Google & Baidu
This approach reflects Apple’s past success with app stores like iTunes and the iPhone App Store. Apple convinced other companies to join these platforms while offering their own products as well.
Reitzes predicts Apple will showcase how users can purchase AI apps at WWDC. This new App Store could potentially include Apple’s own AI assistant (an upgraded Siri) alongside offerings from competitors.
The concept of an AI App Store isn’t entirely new. Other analysts have envisioned a similar model, suggesting Apple might hold internal discussions about it at WWDC.
There’s also speculation that Apple might have spoken with companies like Google and Baidu about adding their AI services to this potential App Store. Google’s Gemini AI, already available through a regular app, could easily fit within an AI-specific store. With WWDC expected in early June, we’ll have to wait and see if Apple unveils this new approach to AI. Stay tuned for future coverage from Gizmochina.
TikTok is launching a global Youth Council to improve online safety for teens. This council will work alongside experts to create a safer and more inclusive app. The announcement comes after research showed a need for more open communication between teens and parents about online safety. Only half of UK teens talk to their parents about online platforms monthly, and many avoid uncomfortable topics like body image.
The Youth Council will provide input on the Youth Portal and TikTok Reporting Tools.
The Youth Council will focus on teen well-being and provide input on features like the Youth Portal and reporting tools. TikTok also offers resources like the Safety Center with guides on bullying and body image, viewed by over a million people monthly. To encourage parental involvement, TikTok promotes Family Pairing to new users over 35. Additionally, they will launch over 10 in-app media literacy campaigns throughout 2024.
“Listening to feedback from teens and parents is a huge part of our safety work,” said a TikTok representative. A Youth Council member expressed excitement about creating a safer app and fostering understanding between people.
Experts like Carolyn Bunting from Internet Matters believe the Youth Council’s input is crucial. The research also highlights the need to educate both teens and parents on existing safety tools. TikTok plans to address this through in-app messaging and promoting media literacy initiatives.
A joint scientific expedition between China and Indonesia has achieved a huge feat, setting a new deep-diving record for Indonesia. Their submersible, going against the immense pressure of the ocean depths, plunged 7,178 meters into the Java Trench in the Indian Ocean.
The expedition took place from February 23 to March 23
This expedition, a collaborative effort between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency, took place from February 23rd to March 23rd. The key to their success was the “Fendouzhe” manned submersible, provided by the CAS Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering. Notably, “Fendouzhe” holds the title of the world’s deepest-reaching manned submersible, capable of venturing a staggering 10,000 meters underwater.
The success of the expedition was met with praise from both sides. China’s ambassador to Indonesia, Lu Kang, emphasized the deepening research collaboration between the two countries in marine sciences. He expressed hope that this joint effort would pave the way for even more high-quality research results in the future, contributing to the development of a sustainable “blue economy.”
Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s coordinating minister for maritime affairs and investment, echoed these sentiments. He viewed the expedition as a landmark moment, opening a new chapter for strengthened maritime cooperation between China and Indonesia. Looking ahead, he expressed a desire to see further expansion of scientific collaboration and the cultivation of more Indonesian scientists and engineers to propel the nation’s marine science endeavors.
This record-breaking dive not only represents a scientific achievement but also signifies a growing partnership between China and Indonesia in exploring the vast mysteries of the ocean depths. The potential for future collaborative research holds promise for advancements in marine biology, geology, and resource exploration, ultimately contributing to a deeper understanding of our oceans.
Xiaomi, the Chinese electronics maker, is getting ready to accept orders for its first electric car, the SU7. The company aims for the SU7 to be the “best looking, easiest to drive and smartest car” at a price below 500,000 yuan ($69,424). There has been a lot of excitement for the SU7 since Xiaomi unveiled it in December. The company has a reputation for good value, and some consumers are worried a high price tag could hurt sales.
The company will start taking orders for the SU7 this Thursday
Xiaomi will officially announce the price range and start taking orders for the SU7 this Thursday. This is the first time Xiaomi has confirmed the upper limit of the price range. Xiaomi stores in China began displaying the car on Monday.
The SU7 will come in two versions with driving ranges of up to 668km and 800km on a single charge. Tesla’s Model S, for comparison, has a range of up to 650km.
This is part of Xiaomi’s plan to diversify beyond smartphones due to stagnant demand. Xiaomi is one of the few new players to gain approval from Chinese authorities for EV production. Its cars are being produced by a unit of state-owned automaker BAIC Group. A week or so ago, the factory that was manufacturing the SU7 EVs was unveiled, and it got fans excited again. Xiaomi has big shoes to fill, and if there first car turns out to be a big success, it could spell huge things for the company.

Last week, Chinese tech giant Oppoannounced its latest smartwatch Watch X in the Chinese market. Now the company has officially announced the sale date for its OPPO Watch X WeChat Edition. The smartwatch, featuring a built-in independent WeChat app, will be available for purchase starting March 29th, 10:00 AM China time.
For those unfamiliar, WeChat is a super app in China, handling everything from messaging and social media to mobile payments and even fitness tracking. Its integration into the OPPO Watch X WeChat Edition eliminates the need for a smartphone, allowing users to reply to messages (text, voice, or emoji), view pictures, utilize voice-to-text, access recent chats, make WeChat payments, and even sync with WeChat Fitness – all directly from their wrist.
This development is particularly significant considering the absence of Google’s Wear OS in China. This has led almost all Chinese brands, with a few exceptions, to adopt RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) for their wearables. OPPO uses ColorOS Watch, built upon AOSP (Android Open Source Project), placing the responsibility for the app ecosystem entirely on their shoulders.
With limited app ecosystems on these wearables, the inclusion of the ever-popular WeChat is a major selling point. OPPO has offered standalone WeChat functionality on previous watch models as well. The company has also announced that the independent WeChat app will be available on the OPPO Watch 4 Pro by May 31st.
But the biggest news might be the potential for iPhone compatibility. As reported by ITHome, this could be the first instance of a WeChat app on an Android wearable that connects to iOS devices. It is not officially confirmed though.
Beyond the WeChat integration, the OPPO Watch X itself boasts impressive features. The smartwatch features a circular design with a polished stainless steel case and a 1.43-inch AMOLED display protected by Sapphire Crystal Glass. It runs on a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, utilizing both ColorOS and RTOS operating systems.
The watch offers eSIM support for calls and boasts MIL-STD 810H durability certification and IP68 water resistance. It provides extensive health tracking capabilities including heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen levels, stress tracking, and sleep analysis. With over 100 sports modes and dual-band GPS support, it caters to various fitness needs. The watch offers a battery life of up to 100 hours and is available in Thousands of Sails Blue,” “Desert Silver Moon,” and “Starry Night Flying” colors.

It has been merely a few months since Apple launched their new mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro. Rumors suggest Apple is internally testing a new Apple Pencil that works with the headset. This could allow users to draw directly within Vision Pro applications like Freeform and Pixelmator. Read on to find out more.
The new pencil could allow drawing directly within Vision Pro apps
The specifics of how VisionOS, the operating system for Vision Pro, will integrate Apple Pencil support remain unclear. However, one exciting possibility involves using the Pencil to draw on real-world surfaces like desktops and having those drawings appear in real-time within the Vision Pro virtual space, complete with pressure and tilt sensitivity. This essentially transforms your surroundings into a giant canvas for creative expression.
While whispers suggest the new Apple Pencil might be unveiled alongside the upcoming iPad Pro and iPad Air refresh in April, there’s no confirmation yet on its compatibility with VisionOS. Compatibility hinges on a software update as well, and it’s uncertain which version will introduce the feature. The first beta of visionOS 1.2 might be available to developers this week, with visionOS 2 expected to be announced at WWDC in June.
It’s important to note, as with many of Apple’s ongoing projects, even if this Apple Pencil with VisionOS support passes internal testing, there’s no guarantee of a final release. However, the prospect of drawing in mid-air with the Apple Pencil is undoubtedly something special, and future developments are worth keeping an eye on.
Are you ready to move past GPT-4? You can brace yourselves for the next wave of large language models (LLMs). According to Business Insider’s sources, OpenAI‘s highly anticipated GPT-5 is nearing launch, potentially arriving within months. Early access hints at a significant leap forward. Enterprise customers receiving GPT-5 demos report positive experiences. One CEO described it as “materially better” than previous models. OpenAI presentations even hint at capabilities like independent AI agents.
Reports suggest that the training was completed in 2023 and the launch might happen soon
Development continues alongside demos. Rigorous safety testing, including simulated attacks (“red teaming”), is crucial before release. This process may push back the initial summer launch predictions. OpenAI remains tight-lipped about a firm release date. This news follows a whirlwind year of GPT-5 speculation. In April 2023, OpenAI downplayed immediate training plans, and CEO Sam Altman dismissed rumors. Whispers of a GPT-4.5 model persisted.
Recent reports suggest 2023 training completion and a 2024 launch for GPT-5. Like its predecessor, GPT-5 is expected to focus on OpenAI’s enterprise clients. A tiered system similar to Google’s Gemini LLMs is a potential future direction.
The past year saw user reports of GPT-4’s decline, with issues like nonsensical responses. Explanations ranged from training efficiency to resource limitations. Some speculated about development of unreleased LLMs straining OpenAI’s systems.
A December 2023 leak referring to “GPT-4.5” models with advanced features further fueled speculation. OpenAI’s CEO remained silent when questioned online. With GPT-5 on the horizon, the LLM landscape is poised for change. The coming months will unveil the true potential of this next-generation model.
