Apple anticipates high sales for iPhone 15; Suppliers to stock devices from next month

In a few months, Apple will announce its next-generation smartphones in the form of the iPhone 15 lineup. And this time, the company is expected to have high sales from the initial months.

Anticipating high sales for the iPhone 15, the Cupertino-based tech giant has reportedly started preparation to stock up on retailers from the month of July, i.e., next month.

Apple iPhone 15

By having the device stocked early this time, the company is trying to avoid supply chain disruptions that led to long wait times for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max last year.

As per the report, Apple is expecting the iPhone 15 lineup to sell better than the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models and is putting in efforts to ensure it can meet the demand.

Apple iPhone 15 is said to come with several new features and improvements, including an improved design, a faster processor, and a better camera setup. The device is expected to be powered by the Apple A17 Bionic chipset, a new camera system with a 48-megapixel primary sensor, support for Wi-Fi 6E, and a longer battery life.

While the launch date is not yet confirmed, we expect the company to follow its tradition and announce the Apple iPhone 15 series, along with the new Apple Watch Series 9 in the month of September, with devices going on sale a couple of weeks after the launch.

The US Congress Implements New Rules for ChatGPT Usage in Offices

In response to the rapid growth of generative AI and its far-reaching implications, the House of Representatives has introduced new regulations surrounding the use of the popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, by congressional offices. This move highlights Washington’s ongoing efforts to grapple with the challenges posed by this transformative technology both at a legislative and personal level.

Offices can only use ChatGPT Plus for privacy reasons

According to a memo obtained by Axios, Catherine L. Szpindor, the Chief Administrative Officer of the House, outlined the guidelines for ChatGPT usage. Offices are now only authorized to utilize the paid version, ChatGPT Plus, which offers enhanced privacy features essential for safeguarding House data. Additionally, the memo specifies that no other large language models are permitted for use.

US Congress

The regulations further emphasize that ChatGPT is to be employed solely for research and evaluation purposes, prohibiting its incorporation into regular workflow. Offices are instructed to input non-sensitive data, refraining from sharing unpublished text blocks with the chatbot. Privacy settings, initially disabled, should be activated to ensure interaction history is not stored or used to augment the large language model.

This development aligns with broader efforts in Congress to address the implications of AI. A bipartisan group of senators, led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, is actively working on comprehensive legislation. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Josh Hawley have conducted hearings on the subject, with Hawley proposing a framework for corporate accountability. In parallel, individual lawmakers have introduced standalone bills, aiming to contribute to the final regulatory package.

As Axios tech and policy reporter Ashley Gold explains, Congress is not unique in its struggle to integrate generative AI into existing workflows while confronting fundamental questions about the technology itself.

By establishing these new guidelines, Congress aims to strike a balance between leveraging AI’s potential for improving operations and ensuring privacy and data protection. As the conversation around AI regulation evolves, it is crucial to find common ground between innovation and accountability, fostering a responsible and ethically-driven AI landscape.

Samsung to mass produce HBM chips for AI, competing with SK Hynix

Samsung, a prominent player in the semiconductor industry, is set to start mass production of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips for artificial intelligence (AI) applications later this year. The company is determined to close the gap with SK Hynix, a key competitor that currently leads the AI memory semiconductor market.

Samsung headquarters

Market Dynamics: SK Hynix’s Lead and Samsung’s Ambitious Plans

As per reports from Korean media, Samsung plans to start mass-manufacturing HBM chips specifically designed for AI in the second half of 2023. In 2022, SK Hynix commanded approximately 50% of the HBM market, while Samsung held around 40% market share, with Micron accounting for the remaining 10%, according to TrendForce via The Korea Times. It is worth noting that the HBM market represents only about 1% of the entire DRAM segment.

However, with the anticipated growth of the AI market, the demand for HBM solutions is projected to rise. Samsung aims to catch up with SK Hynix by ramping up the production of its HBM3 chips, which boast 16GB and 24GB capacities. These advanced chips utilize a vertical stacking technique to combine multiple DRAM chips and can achieve speeds of up to 6.4Gbps.

While the term “AI” has garnered significant attention, the increasing adoption of AI servers underscores the need for high-bandwidth memory solutions. Samsung’s strategic move to mass-manufacture HBM3 chips aligns with the market’s shifting demands and positions the company to compete effectively in the evolving landscape of AI supercomputing.

With Samsung’s entry into mass production and its commitment to memory semiconductor-centered supercomputers by 2028, the race for dominance in AI memory semiconductors is expected to intensify.

Apple’s iPhone 15 to Generate Billions in Revenue, Not Just for Apple but Also for TSMC

Apple’s iPhone 15 is almost here, and anticipation is very high. The phone is rumored to be a major upgrade over the previous generation, with a new design, a goodbye to the notch, and a number of innovative new features. Apple’s sales expectations are also high, and the company has reflected this in its orders to its business partners. One of Apple’s suppliers, TSMC, is projected to see a revenue increase of 11% in the third quarter of this year due to A16 and A17 Bionic. Here are the details…

TSMC to See 11% Revenue Growth in Q3 on Strong iPhone 15 Demand

TSMC, is projected to see a revenue increase of 11% in the third quarter of this year due to the A16 and A17 Bionic chips. TSMC will exclusively produce Apple’s A17 Bionic for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max using its advanced 3nm process. The company is expected to generate $17 billion in revenue in the second quarter, and Apple may ask the company to increase its orders for 3nm chips in preparation for the iPhone 15 launch event. This would help TSMC to achieve its growth target.

Apple iPhone 15

While no exact numbers have been disclosed regarding how much business TSMC will acquire from its profitable client, previous reports stated that Apple secured 90% of the 3nm chip capacity, and it is set to be one of the first clients for the 2nm chips. According to the latest reports, Apple remains TSMC’s largest customer, accounting for 23% of the annual revenue.

The iPhone 15 is expected to be a big seller, and that’s good news for TSMC. The company is already making the A17 Bionic chip for the iPhone 15, and they’re expecting to make a lot of money from it. TSMC is expecting to make 11% more money in the third quarter of this year than they did in the same quarter last year. This is because Apple is expected to sell a lot of iPhone 15s.
