OnePlus is getting ready to launch a new smartphone, the OnePlus Nord N30, as an addition to its Nord series. Jan Stryjak, Associate Director at Counterpoint Research, addressed the situation, stating, “The cost-of-living crisis has continued to inflict misery upon European consumers, making the start of 2023 exceptionally challenging. Nonetheless, there have been some positive developments within the market. Despite losing market share compared to the same period in 2022, Samsung managed to maintain its leadership position by successfully launching its latest flagship Galaxy S23 series, which outperformed both the S22 and S21 models. Apple, on the other hand, gained a slight increase in market share year-on-year, although this was primarily due to its decline being less severe than that of its competitors. However, the standout performer in this difficult climate was Xiaomi, being the only major vendor to experience year-on-year growth, bouncing back from a lackluster Q1 2022.”

Looking ahead to the remainder of 2023, Stryjak expressed cautious optimism. He remarked, “We had predicted that the prevailing conditions would worsen before showing signs of improvement, and unfortunately, Q1 2023 proved us right, marking the worst quarter for smartphone shipments in Europe in over a decade. Nevertheless, we maintain an optimistic outlook that the economic pressures will gradually ease in the coming quarters, leading to a boost in consumer confidence. We anticipate a more positive end to the year, which should be reflected in the performance of the European smartphone market.”

Despite the current difficulties, market players and consumers alike are hopeful that the European smartphone market will regain its momentum as economic conditions stabilize. Oppo Reno 10 series could now be on its way for a global launch. Last week, the Oppo Reno 10, Reno 10 Pro, and Reno 10 Pro+ went official in the Chinese market. These three devices have now been approved by the SIRIM certification platform in Malaysia.

As can be seen in the screenshot of the SIRIM certification, the Reno 10 with CPH2525 model number, the Reno 10 Pro with CPH2531 model number, and the Reno 10 Pro+ with CPH2521 model number have emerged in the database of the Malaysian authority. The SIRIM listings of the Reno 10 series have no information on their specifications.

However, it is speculated that the three phones may pack the same specs that are available on their Chinese counterparts. Apart from SIRIM, the Reno 10 series has also been approved in India, Indonesia, Singapore, and the UAE.

Tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed that the Vivo S17t will feature the Dimensity 8050 chipset. The same has been said in Pricebaba’s report, which reveals its other specs will remain identical to the Vivo S17.

Like the S17, the Vivo S17t will have a 6.78-inch AMOLED 1.5K+ 120Hz display with an in-screen fingerprint scanner, a 50-megapixel front camera with autofocus, and a 50-megapixel (Sony IMX766V, with OIS) + 8-megapixel (IMX355, ultra-wide) dual-camera system. Vivo TWS Air Pro earbuds (rumored)

The Vivo TWS Air Pro will be the world’s first semi-in-ear ANC earphones. The company has already confirmed that it will come in Gemstone Blue and Vitality White colors.

The TWS Air Pro will arrive with a 14.2mm audio driver and support for features like ear detection, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, DeepX 2.0 stereo, 3D spatial audio, and 88ms low latency. It will be equipped with a polymer full-range diaphragm and a custom rear cavity.

Each earbud will weigh around 4 grams. The earbuds will offer 6 hours of battery life. With the case, it will deliver up to 30 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Honor X50 full specifications revealed via TENAA certification

Honor will unveil the Honor 90 and Honor 90 Pro smartphones on May 29 in China. Soon after its launch, the company reportedly plans to launch two other products, such as a mid-range phone called the Honor X50, and a foldable smartphone named the Honor Magic V2. The Magic V2 has been certified by China’s MIIT authority and is expected to debut in July in China. The X50 is expected to launch in June. The device has already been certified by China’s TENAA certification platform, through which its key specifications have emerged.

Honor X50 specifications (rumored)

The Honor X50, which has appeared with model number ALI-AN00 at TENAA, has 163.75.5 x 7.98mm dimensions and weighs 185 grams. The device is equipped with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display that offers a 1.5K+ resolution of 2652 x 1200 pixels and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. Like the Honor X40 from last year, the X50 may also support a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset is said to power the Honor X50. The TENAA does not mention the name of the chip, but only states that it is powered by a 2.2GHz processor. It will arrive in RAM variants like 8 GB, 12 GB, and 16 GB.

The X50 will come in storage editions, such as 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. There is no microSD card slot on the device. It has a 5,700mAh (rated value) battery, which indicates that its typical capacity could be 5,800mAh.

The handset is expected to run on Android 13 OS and Magic UI 7. For selfies, it will feature an 8-megapixel camera. The dual-camera setup available on its back will have a 108-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel auxiliary lens. There is no word on the design of the phone as its images have not appeared in TENAA’s database.

The MIIT certification has not revealed any information on the specifications of the Honor Magic V2, but it does hint that its launch may not be far away. Rumors surrounding the device have claimed that it may arrive in two chipset variants, such as the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

It is speculated that the Honor Magic V2 might be unveiled in July. Similar to the Huawei Mate X3, it is expected that the Magic V2 will feature a slimmer and lighter design. In comparison, the Mate X3, which was introduced in March of this year, has dimensions of 156.9 x 72.4 x 11.8mm when folded and weighs approximately 240 grams.

Honor Magic V2 specifications (rumored)

The Magic V2 will be equipped with a customised 2K LTPO foldable screen with high-frequency dimming, according to the leaked information that tipster Digital Chat Station shared earlier this month. The Magic V2 is said to support 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The other details of the V2 are yet to be revealed. Google Play Store App iRecorder Transforms into Malicious Spyware That Records Audio from Users

ESET, a name most of us recognize from antivirus software, recently made a dangerous discovery during their tests. According to the company, an app called iRecorder Screen Recorder, available on Google Play Store, records audio every 15 minutes and sends it to the app developer. This scandalous news once again proves that even applications available in official stores cannot always be trusted.

The iRecorder Screen Recorder app, initially launched on the Google Play Store in September 2021, took a dark turn with an update in August 2022. This update incorporated AhMyth, an open-source Remote Access Trojan (RAT), turning the app into a stealthy espionage tool. The RAT gave the app the ability to remotely record audio, link to an attacker’s server, and upload recorded audio and sensitive files.

This update fundamentally shifted the trajectory of the app, turning all of its users into potential victims. The truly terrifying part lies exactly here. Many users, without realizing, have been using the app in this condition for almost nine months, and their voices have been recorded. After the incident came to light, Google removed the iRecorder Screen Recorder app from the Play Store. However, you are also advised to be careful and take the necessary precautions if you have downloaded this app even once.

By harnessing the power of AI, Microsoft intends to streamline the app research process and improve the overall customer experience. While a specific release date has yet to be confirmed, Microsoft has assured users that the feature will be introduced soon.

In addition to the review summaries, Microsoft announced the introduction of a dedicated section within the Microsoft Store called the AI Hub. This section aims to highlight the best AI-centric apps developed by the Microsoft community and external developers. Apps such as Luminar Neo, Descript, Podcastle, Kickresume, Play.ht, Copy.ai, and Tripnotes are among the featured applications in the AI Hub.

Microsoft is also introducing AI-generated keywords in the Partner Center, empowering developers to better showcase their apps to users. Austrian retailer showcases Nokia 2660 Flip in two new colors

An Austrian retailer has added two new colors to the Nokia 2660 Flip. The Nokia 2660 Flip is a reincarnation of the Nokia 2660 in a new avatar with the Flip moniker included. It was originally released in black, blue, and red colors, while lush green and pink colors have now been added. The new color variants of the Nokia 2660 Flip remain the same as the earlier model.

The Nokia 2660 Flip was the first Nokia flip phone that did not run on the KaiOS. It has a dual display consisting of a 2.8-inch primary screen and a 1.77-inch secondary display. The 2660 Flip is equipped with the Unisoc T107 processor and up to 32GB of storage is supported via microSD card. The Nokia 2660 Flip also features an MP3 Player, FM Radio, and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity.

A 1,450mAh battery provides the juice for the 2660 Flip and it can be charged via the micro-USB port. The phone has a 0.3MP camera and LED flash, as well as an emergency button for quick calling of up to 5 contacts.

As per the new color variants of the Nokia 2660 Flip, the lush green model has a gold-tinted D-pad and camera island. The phone’s keypad is darker than the lush green color of the body. On the other hand, the pink variant of the 2660 Flip reflects a dark pink keypad and rose pink finish of the D-pad. Both color variants have several images already in the retailer’s database.

Researchers Discover Flaw in Android Fingerprint Recognition Systems

Researchers from a Chinese university have discovered a way to unlock some Android devices using false fingerprints. The researchers found two security flaws in the fingerprint recognition systems of many Android devices. These flaws can be exploited to create a fake fingerprint that can be used to unlock the device.

If you possess the required technical expertise, you could create this key, or else, it can be bought for a mere $15. Two essential things are needed to perform this attack – the key and 45 minutes of uninterrupted access to the target device. The BrutePrint attack uses the fingerprint database, with the circuit boards executing a straightforward database search on the device to unlock it.

The research team tested this method on eight different Android devices including the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, Vivo X60 Pro, OnePlus 7 Pro, Oppo Reno Ace, Samsung Galaxy S10+, OnePlus 5T, Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G, and Huawei P40. Which devices were compromised, however, was not disclosed due to security reasons.

Interestingly, the research team also tested devices with the iOS operating system – specifically iPhone models with the Touch ID feature. The iPhone SE and iPhone 7 models were tested, and it was found that neither could be hacked using this method, implying that iPhone models are secure from such attacks.
