Honor X40 5G has launched in China today. It arrives as the successor to the Honor X30. The Honor X40 comes with premium specifications like curved display, high refresh rate, virtual RAM, a Snapdragon processor and more. Read on to know what the smartphone offers out of the box.

The Honor X40 5G sports a 6.67-inch OLED display with a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout and curved edges. It offers a 2,400 x 1,080-pixel resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 800 nits brightness, and 10-bit colour depth. The device is integrated with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The X40 5G come with a circular camera module on the back panel.

On the imaging front, the Honor X40 5G features dual rear cameras. The setup consists of a 50MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture paired with a 2MP secondary sensor. On the front, there is an 8MP selfie snapper.

Under the hood, the Honor X40 5G is equipped with a Snapdragon 695 processor. It packs up to 12GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. There is also 7GB of virtual RAM technology. The smartphone is backed by a 5,000mAh battery unit with support for 40W fast charging. The Honor X40 5G runs on Magic UI 6.1 based on Android 12 OS.

The Honor X40 5G is offered in Colourful Cloud, Mo Yuqing, and Magic Night Black colours. The smartphone starts at RMB 1,499 ($215) for the 6GB + 128GB variant. The 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB RAM and storage configurations are priced at RMB 1,699 (~$243) and RMB 1,999 (~$286) respectively. The 12GB + 256GB option costs RMB 2,299 (~$328).

Acer has expanded its range of televisions in India. The company’s official licensee Indkal Technologies has debuted Acer H and S-series televisions in the country. The former includes four variants with UHD resolution while the latter comes in HD and UHD option. Read on to know what the televisions offer out of the box.

Beginning with the Acer S-series, it is offered in a 32-inch and 65-inch screen sizes bearing an HD and UHD resolution respectively. The former comes with HDR10+ support and 40W sound output with Dolby Atmos.

On the other hand, the Acer S-series 65-inch model offers a UHD 4K video resolution with 420 nits brightness. It offers 1.07 billion colours, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision support. This TV also provides 50W sound output with Dolby Atmos.

Meanwhile the Acer H-series comes in 43, 50, and 55-inch screen sizes bearing a 4K UHD resolution. They offer the same display features as the S-series 65-inch model. The sound output is 60W on the H-series tuned by Dolby Atmos.

The Acer H and S-series televisions come with bezel-less displays and a premium metal finish. Common features between the two television lineups include digital noise reduction, MEMC technology, micro dimming, intelligent frame stabilisation engine, blue light reduction, and video call support via Google Duo.

Under the hood, the Acer S-series and H-series televisions are powered by a Cortex-A55 processor. The S-series 32-inch variant packs 1.5GB RAM and 8GB onboard storage whereas the other four televisions feature 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage for a smooth experience.

The Acer S and H-series TVs run on Google certified Android 11 OS with pre-installed apps like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and YouTube. Connectivity options on the televisions include three HDMI 2.1 ports, one USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, WiFi, and Bluetooth.

The Acer S-series starts at Rs 14.999 for the 32-inch variant and the 65-inch model costs Rs 64,999. The Acer H-series 43, 50, and 55-inch models are priced at Rs 29,999, Rs 34,999, and Rs 39,999 respectively. With Apple finally announcing the highly anticipated iPhone 14 series, reviews have been going live for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models, which have revealed some interesting details regarding its new Always On Display feature. So let’s have a look.

Unlike typical Always On Displays found on Android smartphones, the new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max’s AOD is slightly different. We don’t see the classic black background, rather just a very dimly lit screen. But, it appears that the Cupertino based giant used this to bring support for a number of its applications. By support, we mean added functionality, as the AOD on the iPhone 14 Pro series can work with Apple TV Remote, Maps, Phone, Voice Memos, and more.

According to Brian Tong’s review, the new iPhone Always On Display works with multiple apps. For example, when using the Map app, the map itself is hidden and only the directions, arrival time, and distance remaining are displayed. Similarly, the Phone and Voice Memos apps have various parts of its interface dimmed down.

Another report from CNBC’s Sofia Pitt found that the AOD on the iPhone 14 Pro series also works with the Apple TV Remote feature in Control Center. In other words, it can be used in a dimmed manner without having to unlock your new iPhone. This remote feature works with all Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD models, and even the third generation TV, AirPlay 2 enabled smart TVs as well.

Last week, Huawei debuted the Huawei Mate 50 series in China. The latest flagships from the company were unveiled a day ahead of the Apple iPhone 14 lineup. Now, the once world’s largest smartphone brand has confirmed to bring one of its newly announced premium handsets to Europe.

Huawei has sent media invites in Germany for the debut of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro and Huawei Nova 10 in the country. These two phones will be announced on September 26.

Though the company only lists two products in the invite, tipster @RODENT950 suggests that EMUI 13 could also be presented alongside them. For the unaware, Huawei smartphones and tablets outside China still run EMUI though it has switched to HarmonyOS in China.

EMUI 12 based on Android 11 was announced in late August 2021. Hence, the company could announce EMUI 13 later this month. Unfortunately, it is not known whether it will bring an upgrade to the underlying Android version. But what we know for sure is that it will lack GMS (Google Mobile Services).

Huawei is known for introducing similar products in multiple European markets at the same time. Hence, there’s a chance that these two handsets could be announced in other countries neighboring Germany. But unfortunately, we do not have the confirmation for the same at the moment.

Either way, apart from EMUI 13, we know everything about Huawei Mate 50 Pro and Huawei Nova 10 as they are already official. We just have to wait until September 26 to learn about their price and availability in Europe.

The Google Chromecast with Google TV was introduced in late 2020. Earlier this year, a report revealed that the search is planning to debut a 1080p version of this product. A few months later, this upcoming device was certified by FCC. Some of its specs were also leaked recently. Now, we even know the design of the product, thanks to leaked renders.

Roland Quandt of WinFuture has shared a bunch of renders showcasing the design of the upcoming Google Chromecast HD with Google TV. Going by the pictures, the new model will be identical to the original product.

One of the images also discloses the box contents. The streaming device will ship with a remote control, 2 x AAA batteries, a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, and a power adapter. All of them will be white in color, just like the product itself.

Though the appearance will be the same as the older model, the new model will come with a different set of specifications. First and foremost, it will be limited to 1080p (FHD) streaming.

Also, it will feature a slightly lower 1.5GB RAM (compared to 2GB). It will be powered by a less powerful Amlogic S805X2 chipset. But this SoC carries support for AV1 decoding, which is not available in the Amlogic S905X3 chip present inside the original 4G model.

As far as software is concerned, it will boot Android TV 12 with Google TV interface. It will also have support for virtual A/B partitions for seamless system updates. On the other hand, the original 4G model still runs Android TV 10.

This latest Google-branded streaming device is expected to go official at the company’s ‘Made By Google event on October 6.

Honor recently unveiled the Honor Pad X8 Lite at IFA 2022. The device has made an appearance on the company’s global website, hinting at an upcoming launch. The site has revealed some specifications, while other specifications are already available from the IFA event. So, let’s take a look at the details.

Honor Pad X8 Lite specifications and features

The Honor Pad X8 Lite has a thickness of 7.55mm and weighs 460 grams. It features a 9.7-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It boots onto the Android 12 operating system with Magic UI 6.1 on top, allowing users to operate up to four windows on one screen using the multi-window speaker.

The Helio G80 chipset powers the tablet, which is complemented by 3 GB / 4 GB of RAM. It has 32 GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. It has a 5,100 mAH battery that supports 10W charging. For optics, the device sports a 2-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls. Its back panel houses a 5-megapixel camera with no flash. The device supports Histen Audio and is outfitted with two speakers.

On the connectivity front, the Honor Pad X8 Lite comes with support dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, and a USB-C port. It lacks a SIM card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Availability and pricing details of the tablet are not out yet. However, looking at its pricing in China, we can assume that the tablet could retail for under $200.

Oppo has just announced a pair of new smartphones in the Indian market. The two devices in question is the F21s Pro and the F21s Pro 5G models that feature some notable specs and target the mid range segment. So let’s have a look at their specs, pricing, and more.

Display & Design

The Chinese smartphone maker has placed an emphasis on the design of the Oppo F21s Pro series. The two models feature similar design with a few key differences at the back, with the camera module being slightly different. Although, the rest of the rear panel as well as the color options between the two models are identical. The brand also marketed the slim design of the F21s Pro series, with both models measuring just 7.66mm in thickness. Notably, the F21s Pro also offers Orbit Light for notifications, while the F21s Pro 5G features dual Orbit Light around its rear cameras.

On the other hand, the F21s Pro and F21s Pro 5G both sport a similarly sized 6.43 inch AMOLED display on the front. This panel has a 90.8 percent screen to body ratio, Full HD+ resolution. However, the base F21s Pro model offers up to 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz refresh touch sampling rate. Meanwhile, the F21s Pro 5G has a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Both models also house a center aligned punch hole camera as well.

Talking about the former first, it features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset that is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Under the hood, a large 4,500mAh battery pack powers the device, which also supports 33W fast charging as well.

The higher end Oppo F21s Pro is equipped with a more powerful Snapdragon 695 SoC, which is a 5G enabled processor. This variant is also paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Similar to the 4G only model, the F21s Pro 5G also packs a 4,500mAh battery pack that supports 33W fast charging. Other features of the F21s Pro series include, in display fingerprint scanners, IPX4 protection rating, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Camera

The camera module on the rear is slightly different between both models. The F21s Pro features a triple camera setup that consists of a 64 megapixel primary camera that is paired with a 2 megapixel depth sensor, and a 2 megapixel microlens, which is a first for this price segment. This sensor offers up to 30x magnification. Meanwhile, the front houses a flagship grade 32 megapixel Sony IMX709 selfie camera.

The higher end F21s Pro also packs a triple camera setup but it skips the new microlens. Rather, it features a 64 megapixel primary sensor, a 2 megapixel depth sensor, and lastly, another 2 megapixel macro shooter. The front features a 16 megapixel selfie camera.

The Oppo F21s Pro 5G and F21s Pro are only available in a single storage configuration, although, the brand is offering both models in two color options. This includes a Dawnlight Gold and Starlight Black variant. The F21s Pro 4G has a price tag of 22,999 INR, while the F21s Pro 5G has a price tag of 25,999 INR. The Vivo V25 finally makes its way to India as scheduled. The device is now available in the market ahead of the festive season. It joins the Vivo V25 Pro in the country, which debuted in August. For the unaware, the vanilla V25 was first introduced in Southeast Asia last month.

The Vivo V25 will retail at the following price tags in India.

12GB + 256GB – ₹31,999

The smartphone is available for pre-order starting today (September 15) across offline and online channels. The company is offering multiple bank discounts and financing options.

Vivo V25 Specifications

The Vivo V25 features a color-changing fluorite AG glass panel like the Vivo V25 Pro. It also comes in a standard black color option. The color-changing variant changes from blue to gold color when sunlight or UV rays fall on it.

The handset is built around a 6.44-inch HDR10+ enabled AMOLED display with a resolution of 2404 x 1080 pixels (FHD+), a 90Hz refresh rate, and a dewdrop notch. It has a flat frame design and a rectangular camera island.

The device is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC and it boots Funtouch OS 12 based on Android 12. It neither has a 3.5mm headphone jack nor a MicroSD card slot. There are no dual stereo speakers either.

However, the phone offers a 50MP selfie camera with eye auto-focus support and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. On the rear, it has a triple camera system comprising an OIS-assisted 64MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide unit, and a 2MP macro snapper.

Connectivity options on the smartphone include dual SIM, 5G, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.2, GNSS, and USB Type-C (USB 2.0). It is backed by a 4,500mAh battery with support for 44W fast wired charging (charger included in the box).

Last but not least, the Vivo V25 measures 159.20×74.20×7.79mm in dimensions and weighs 186g.

Realme 9 5G receives Android 12 based Realme UI 3.0 update

Back in July, Realme began testing Realme UI 3.0 open beta builds for the Realme 9 5G. Now, the brand has finally released the Android 12-based stable build for the device for regular users.

The Realme UI 3.0 stable update rollout will be released to Realme 9 5G users in batches, and to be eligible for the update, users will have to make sure that they are on the firmware version RMX3388_11.A.06 / RMX3388_11.A.07.

As usual, the update will be rolling out in badges, so it might take a few days before the update is made available on all devices. Realme has also listed some common issues that might occur after the update that the users will need to be mindful of. You can check them out below.

Common issues

a. After the upgrade, it may take a longer time to boot for the first time, especially if there are many third-party applications on your phone.

b. After the upgrade, in order to improve the system’s operation efficiency and eliminate potential safety risks, the system will perform a series of actions such as application adaptation, background optimization, and security scanning. So, the system will occupy more CPU, memory, and other resources, which may cause slight hanging and faster power consumption.

The new update will bring a new UI design to the device along with new features and increased performance and efficiency. Cameras will also get a few new options, and gaming will be smoother with more stable frame rates and less battery consumption.
