Realme Q5 vs Realme Q5 Pro vs Realme Q5i: Specs Comparison

Realme launched a brand new series of affordable phones in the Chinese market: the Realme Q5 lineup. The series is composed of three phones: the vanilla Realme Q5, the Realme Q5i, and the Realme Q5 Pro, with the latter being a flagship killer with a high-end hardware department. This series will remain exclusive to the Chinese market, even though devices belonging to the Q5 series might debut in other markets under different names as happened with previous generations. As you can see from the image, aesthetically, they are very different phones. But they also differ in their specs sheets. This is a comparison between the specifications of the Realme Q5, the Q5 Pro, and the Q5i.

Design

The Realme Q5 Pro is very attractive because it introduces a brand new texture on the rear side. If you do not like it, then the vanilla Realme Q5 offers you a better design with its multi-layer coating giving you a reflective rear side. Unfortunately, these phones are built with cheap materials: you do not get glass backs and aluminum frames like on flagships, but the build quality is still good. The Realme Q5i is the most compact phone of the trio because it has a smaller display, and it is even the thinnest one. The Pro variant also comes in a Vans custom edition dedicated to the known skating shoe manufacturer.

Display

If you are looking for the most advanced display, then you should go for the Realme Q5 Pro. It is the only one from this trio to sport an AMOLED panel. The display has a diagonal of 6.62 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, and an in-display fingerprint reader. The silver medal goes to the Realme Q5 coming with a 6.6-inch display, a Full HD+ resolution, and a 120 Hz refresh rate, but with the IPS LCD technology. The Realme Q5i has an IPS panel too, but with a lower 90 Hz refresh rate and a smaller 6.58-inch diagonal.

Hardware/Software

The most powerful hardware is provided by the Realme Q5 Pro which almost reaches the high-end segment thanks to a Snapdragon 870 mobile platform built at 7 nm and running at a max frequency of 3.2 GHz, paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. But it is also the only one without a micro SD slot. Right after, we got the Realme Q5 with a Snapdragon 695 chipset, up to 8 GB of RAM, and up to 256 GB of internal storage. The Realme Q5i comes last with a Dimensity 810, just 6 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. All of these phones run Android 12 out of the box with the Realme UI 3.0 on top.

Camera

The most advanced camera belongs to the Realme Q5 Pro, but it is still a midrange camera: we are talking about a triple camera with a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP macro camera. No ultrawide lenses on the Realme Q5 and Q5i, and a different main camera: the vanilla version has a pretty good 50 MP sensor, while the Q5i has a disappointing 13 MP snapper.

Battery

All of the batteries come with a 5000 mAh capacity, but these phones differ in terms of charging speeds: 65W on the Q5, 80W on the Q5 Pro, and 33W on the Q5i. Note that the Realme Q5 Pro lasts more on a single charge thanks to its efficient components.

Realme Q5 vs Realme Q5 Pro vs Realme Q5i: Price

The starting price of the Realme Q5 roughly translates into €200/$210, the Pro variant starts from about €330/$347, and the Q5i begins at €180/$189. Which one would you pick?

Marshall’s Willien Bluetooth speaker is its smallest yet with up to 15 hours battery life

Audio products manufacturer Marshall has unveiled its smallest ever Bluetooth speaker named Willien. The Marshall Willien is a lightweight (0.31kg) and small (101.6 x 100.5 x 40.4mm) speaker with Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. The Marshall Willien will be released in the summer and it is priced at around $119. It will be available in select markets (the United Kingdom, US, etc).Marshall Willien Bluetooth speaker

The Marshall Willien is hyped to deliver heavy and high-quality sound under three presets. Its 2-inch full-range drivers and two passive radiators offer high-octane sound hardly associated with a small speaker. The speaker is dust and water-resistant with its IP67 rating. It delivers up to 15 hours of activity on a single charge. It is pretty fast to recharge the Marshall Willien – a 20-minute charge yields up to three hours of playback.

The audio capability of the Marshall Willien can be taken several notches higher by combining multiple Willien speakers via the Stack Mode. It is however unclear what are previous Marshall speakers not compatible with the feature. The Marshall Willien can also be used for making or receiving calls. It is a versatile device that seems to be some light years away from Marshall’s speakers of old. It is small but it can also sit on its side, back, or upright. There is also a rubber strap that makes it easy to attach the speaker to other devices.Marshall Willien Bluetooth speaker

Ordinarily, the Marshall Willien is entering a highly saturated portable Bluetooth speaker market. However, its features and affordability, together with Marshall’s brand identity, could spur the device on. It is unclear whether the Willien will be globally available in the summer when in berths in the US and UK.

Anker 633 MagSafe battery with a 10,000mAh capacity launched for $80

Anker has released its 633 Magnetic Battery for iPhones and it comes with a power capacity of 10,000mAh. The Anker 633 offers significant improvements in magnetic charging for iPhones and its capacity is about double of existing models. MagSafe batteries usually offer a single full charge for iPhone, but the new Anker 633 could go beyond that. The device is now available via Amazon for $80.Anker 633 MagSafe battery

The MagSafe battery offers extra magnetic charging capacity for iPhones. The Anker 633 is capable of fully charging the iPhone 13 Pro about twice (actually 1.8 times, according to Anker). The Anker 633 seems to be designed solely for its power output, as it is designed with a traditional flip-out kickstand and Qi wireless charging. An additional USB-A port is also available for the device. Fasting charging could be achieved beyond 7.5W when a USB-C port is used. This delivers up to 20W of charging power.Anker 633 MagSafe battery

The Anker 633 moniker seems confusing as Anker already has a separate Anker 633 Magnetic Wireless Charger. The new Anker MagSafe Charger compares with Apple’s modified MagSafe which delivers 7.5W wireless charging. However, Apple’s MagSafe offers 15W wired passthrough charging unlike the Anker 633. The heat dissipation mechanism is not yet clear for the Anker 633, as it seems not to have gotten any authoritative reviews yet. The 10,000mAh battery capacity of the Anker 633 remains its best feature.

Fitbit faces a new lawsuit over entire product line for its tendency to overheat and cause burn hazards

Google-owned Fitbit is facing a lawsuit claiming that the wearable maker’s entire product line has the tendency to overheat and cause burns to users. It seems that the issue has been occurring for some time but recently come to light. In March this year, Google had voluntarily recalled 1.7 million Fitbit Iconic units after reports emerged of the smartwatch causing burn injuries due to overheating.

“Reasonable consumers purchase the products to burn calories – not their skin – and to safely pursue a healthy lifestyle with the aid of a smartwatch,” the complaint against Fitbit reads.

Fitbit Sense and Versa models are reportedly overheating
Fitbit Sense and Versa models are reportedly overheating and causing burn issues as per a new lawsuit

The two California-based plaintiffs who sued Fitbit and Google claim that the overheating problem is not only limited to the Iconic smartwatch. One plaintiff was using the Fitbit Versa Lite whereas the other had the Fitbit Versa 2. Both experienced overheating issues that resulted in burn injuries. The lawsuit claims that similar issues are present in other Fitbit products and the list includes Versa, Versa 2, Versa 3, Charge 4, Versa Light, Ionic, Sense, Alta HR, Inspire, Inspire HR, Inspire 2, and Blaze.

The lawsuit also alleges that Fitbit customer support isn’t helpful in resolving the issue. The company has been accused of putting the blame on the customer. The court documents submitted by the plaintiffs include screenshots of public and private chats with Fitbit’s support channels. Additionally, it also mentions that although Fitbit promised full refunds for Iconic owners, it has been sluggish with the compensation process.

Both Google and Fitbit could be in big trouble going forward if the overheating problem spans across Fitbit’s product line.

The Best Xiaomi Pad 5 Alternatives in India

Xiaomi finally launched the Xiaomi Pad 5 in India last week. It is the company’s first tablet in the country in 7 years. Also, this product was first announced in August 2021. It took the firm 8 months to bring it to India. The device is now up for sale in the region. But should you buy it or consider anything else? We try to answer this question in this article.

Xiaomi Pad 5

The Xiaomi Pad 5 is probably the best Android tablet in India in its price segment. The tablet retails at ₹26,999 and ₹28,999 for 6GB + 128GB and 6GB + 256GB memory configurations.

Unlike other Android tablets in the same price range, it offers a Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 SoC, UFS 3.1 storage, 120Hz refresh rate screen, and an 8,720mAh battery. These features are unheard of in this particular price category in India.

But for some reason, you may not like the product. For instance, Android is still not a good platform for tablets due to a lack of optimized apps. Further, it neither has a 3.5mm headphone jack nor a MicroSD card slot. It even lacks a fingerprint sensor and comes only in a WiFi-only variant in the country.

Additionally, Xiaomi is infamous for its tablet software support. Anyway, the company has promised to deliver Android 12L for the Xiaomi Pad 5.

Having said that, If you are looking for alternatives to the Xiaomi Pad 5 due to any of the aforementioned reasons or others, then you have come to the right place. We have listed the top competitors of this device that are worth considering.

The Best Xiaomi Pad 5 Alternatives in India

1. Apple iPad 9th Generation

ipad 9th gen featured

When we talk about tablets, the iPad is the first product that comes into our mind, and for a good reason. Apple iPads are the most popular tablet product in the world due to their ever-growing reliable app ecosystem. The tablets also offer a premium build and specs to go with it.

The latest entry-level iPad, which also goes by the name of iPad 9th Generation and iPad 10.2 (2021) is the best alternative to the Xiaomi Pad 5 though it starts at  ₹30,900 for the base variant with 64GB storage and only WiFi.

Apart from a much more powerful Apple A13 Bionic chip, the iPad will also receive software updates for 4-5 years. It is the second longest-supported tablet in this price segment. However, if you want more storage space, you will have to spend ₹44,900 for 256GB or ₹56,900 for 256GB and 5G support.

If your budget does not allow you to spend more than the price of the base variant of iPad 9th Generation and you are fine with 64GB, only then go with it.

2. Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook

Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook Featured

If your usage mostly includes accessing web applications, then it’s better to buy a Chrome OS-powered tablet, which also allows you to use Android as well as Linux apps. The only option in this price range in India is the 2-year-old Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook.

As of writing this article, the product was being sold at ₹24,999. Unlike most tablets, it ships with a keyboard accessory and a kickstand stand. You only have to buy a stylus separately if you need it.

Most importantly, it Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook is the longest-supported tablet in its segment. Though It was released in 2020, it will still get updates until June 2028.

Since Chrome OS is getting better with every major update, the tablet should have more features than it launched with in the years to come.

3. Lenovo Yoga Tab 11

Lenovo Yoga Tab 11

The Lenovo Yoga Tab 11 is arguably the best contender for Xiaomi Pad 5 alternative running Android. Though the tablet is not as powerful as the Pad 5, it offers certain features that are not available on the latter for a price tag of ₹25,999 (as of writing this post).

The Lenovo-branded tablet comes with a MicroSD card slot, a vibrations motor, and a ToF sensor for a face authentication system. It also has quad stereo speakers tuned by JBL and dual microphones with low-power DSP for far-filed voice recognition.

In addition to Dolby Vision support, it also has a built-in stainless steel kickstand which can be used to hand it anywhere. Finally, the only variant sold in India has LTE connectivity and 128GB storage.

The Lenovo Yoga Tab 11 may be less powerful with its MediaTek Helio G90T SoC and 4GB RAM, however, it has been confirmed to receive the Android 12 update by August and will continue to get security updates until April 2024.

4. Motorola Moto Tab G70

The Motorola Moto Tab G70 can be considered as a lite variant of the Lenovo Yoga Tab 11. It is almost similar to the Lenovo model without some features for a cheaper ₹22,999 price tag (as of writing this post).

It has the same display and chipset as the Yoga Tab 11 but lacks Dolby Vision support, JBL-branded speakers, a built-in stand, and a ToF sensor for biometrics. Finally, it also comes with only 64GB storage instead of 128GB.

For just ₹3,000 less, you lose out on so many features. Anyway, if you are budget is strictly around the price of the Moto Tab G70, it’s the only good option.

5. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

Galaxy Tab S6 Lite featured

Just like the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is also a 2-year-old product. Though it has already received two Android updates (Android 11 and Android 12), it is still eligible for one more major software update (Android 13).

The tablet is not as powerful as the other two Android competitors since it is run by an Exynos 9611 SoC. But it is feature-rich in terms of software. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which others don’t feature.

Also, unlike any other tablet on the list, it is the only one that ships with a stylus. Talking about price, as of writing this article, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite was being sold at ₹25,999 (4GB + 64GB, WiFi-only) and ₹29,999 (4GB + 64GB, WiFi + LTE).

India issues new order that asks VPN firms to collect & supply it with user data

India has just issued a new order that appears to be a step against data privacy. The government is now asking VPN based companies to collect and provide it with user data.

India

According to an Entrackr report, the government wants Virtual Private Network firms to collect the user’s data for five years on their servers and then eventually hand it over to the government. This order is not limited to just VPN based companies and even targets Cloud and Crypto based firms as well. The report adds that firms that do not comply with this order may face prison sentence up to a year under the Section 70B(7). This order has been issues by a department under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, which is known as Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in).

The department has urged VPN companies to collect sensitive user data, which includes their customer’s names after validating them. Furthermore, they would even have to store other forms of information of the user like their IP addresses, usage patterns, and even other forms of identifiable information as well. All in all, the IT Ministry department stated that these efforts are being made to “coordinate response activities as well as emergency measures with respect to cyber security incidents.” However, this is a major step against data privacy since companies are now legally allowed and required to collect and store your data as per the new order.

India

The VPN, cloud, and crytpo based firms will begin collecting data starting from the date of 27th June 2021. So, the process is already underway. Unfortunately, many firms might face difficulties (especially VPN firms) that advertise their services with a no logs policy. Additionally, VPN users typically use the service to hide their original IP address and online footprint. This even helps in hiding their IP addresses from malicious individuals like hackers. So, collecting such user data defeats the purpose and makes data leaks more likely in the near future.
