OnePlus is long rumored to release a tablet. As we are nearing the stipulated launch timeline for this product, we have started hearing some important details about it. The latest leak of the tablet sheds information on its software.

OnePlus Logo 2020 Featured

According to Yogesh Brar (via 91Mobiles), the upcoming OnePlus tablet, which is expected to go official as the OnePlus Pad, will boot Android 12L out of the box. For the unaware, Android 12L is a new version of Android developed specifically for devices with large displays like tablets and foldables.

Unfortunately, the tipster does not say anything else about the tablet from OnePlus. According to previous reports, the product will go official in the first quarter of 2022. It is also said to debut in India in the first half of 2022.

As far as specs are concerned, the OnePlus Pad could be similar to the forthcoming OPPO Pad. Perhaps, it could be a rebranded version of its parent company’s device for international markets.

If that’s the case, then it will arrive will features like a 120Hz refresh rate display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera, ColorOS PC Connect support, and 33W fast charging.

Anyway, since OPPO Pad was recently spotted with Android 11 on Geekbech, the OnePlus Pad could be a different tablet altogether.

OnePlus’s unified OS will reportedly run atop Android 13

OnePlus had back in June 2021 announced a deeper integration with OPPO along with plans to develop a unified operating system that will power offerings from both. Following this, HydrogenOS was ditched in China in favor of ColorOS and OxygenOS became nothing but a rebranded ColorOS.

But OnePlus has not settled just yet and recently announced the launch of a unified OS. A new report has now revealed some additional information about it.

While the official announcement stated that the unified and upgraded global operating system will be launched sometime in 2022, tipster Yogesh Brar (via MySmartPrice) says that it will be during the second half of the year. The OS, which is reportedly still in its early development phase, has also been revealed to launch alongside the OnePlus flagship handset.

Unified and Upgraded Operating System for OnePlus and OPPO Phones

Some may think that the handset in question is the OnePlus 10 Pro, but the device has already been launched in China running ColorOS 12.1, so that’s out of the question.

Yogesh further revealed that the unified OS will be based on Android 13. This is quite reasonable considering an H2 2022 launch date sits well with Android 13’s expected release date.

Some rumors have suggested that the upcoming OnePlus unified operating system could be called H2OOS, although that’s yet to be confirmed officially. Not much is known about it at the moment but an official infographic from last year had revealed that it combines the best bits of ColorOS and OxygenOS.

Redmi K50 Pro case leak gives first true glimpse of device

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the Redmi K50 series in China quite soon. While the company is yet to confirm a release date, the devices could be launched later this month. A case leak from earlier today had shown what the devices’ rear could look like, but a newer one now actually shows the Redmi K50 Pro, or at least its renders.

redmi k50 pro case render 2

A post from Fast Technology Official on Weibo has showcased a couple of cases for the Redmi K50 Pro in orange and purple colors. The creator of the render was kind enough to leave the device inside the cases, revealing some key details about its design for the first time.

Judging from the leak, the Redmi K50 Pro will be coming with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor just like the Redmi K40 series. The K series has always been a performance-above-all kind of offering, so under-display fingerprint tech has likely been given a miss due to its higher cost. Of course, this lacking will be made up for by other specifications.

redmi k50 pro case render

The leak also shows that the Redmi K50 Pro will sport a triple rear camera setup arranged in a triangle. The primary is expected to be a 108MP sensor, as printed at the back of the case. A flash unit will sit beneath the cameras.

While not really indicated yet, it is safe to assume that the standard Redmi K50 model will feature a near-identical design, meaning cases for the Pro model will most possibly be compatible with it too.

It is unclear whether the case leaks in question are official or concern high-quality third-party accessories.

Models from the Redmi K50 series are expected to follow a naming scheme akin to the current models. As such, the Redmi K50 will likely be dubbed as the POCO F4 globally and perhaps as the Xiaomi 12X in India.

New Samsung smartphones may receive 4 years of Android OS updates

A new report has suggested that Samsung might be pushing the boundary with its Android OS update policy again. Previously, the company had upgraded its update policy for Android OS from two to three years. Now, a new leak has suggested that latest smartphones will support four years of updates.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Series by Evan Blass

According to a SamMobile report, the South Korean tech giant is planning on offering four major Android OS updates and up to five years of security patches. As of right now, the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy Tab S8 series and even the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3 are apparently eligible for this new update policy.

Notably, this also implies that the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Tab S8 lineup that are expected to ship with Android 12 will officially receive update till Android 16. Apart from the major updates, it will also receive five years of security updates as well. If this information is true, this raises the overall life of a new Galaxy smartphone, which makes it more appealing for prospective buyers since they wouldn’t need to consider upgrading their handset in just two or three years.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+

Interestingly, we had also previously reported on Search Engine giant Google offering four years of Android OS updates and five years of security patches on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. So, this might be an emerging trend or a new standard that smartphone brands may soon offer.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra could come with a gold-colored middle frame

The Xiaomi 12 series launch from December last year gave a miss to an Ultra model, and some even began claiming that it had been done away with. New leaks thereafter suggested otherwise though, showing that a successor to last year’s ‘superphone’ is indeed in the works. The latest now drops some new design cues of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, with the highlight being the usage of a gold-colored middle frame.

xiaomi 12 ultra dcs

The information comes from reliable industry insider Digital Chat Station who has also revealed that the middle frame will be paired with a white back cover. Previous leaks had suggested that the rear camera module will be huge, spanning the entire width of the phone. The tipster has now revealed that the module will house a “matrix triple camera” setup and be colored black.

Upfront, there will be a 2K curved display with a single punch hole aligned to the center. The panel can also be expected to have other top-notch specs too such as a 120Hz refresh rate, high touch sampling rate, HDR10+ support, and more.

If the Xiaomi 12 Ultra indeed comes with a triple rear camera setup, then it will be following in the footsteps of the Xiaomi 11 Ultra. A tipster had earlier claimed that the device will feature the same 50MP + 48MP + 48MP cameras from the 11 Ultra, meaning Xiaomi may be employing an already winning formula.

Lastly, the Digital Chat Station under the same post has revealed that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will not have a unibody design. Its predecessor didn’t either, so that’s yet another similarity between the two.

The listing mentions that it is powered by a Qualcomm chipset that has four CPU cores clocking at 2.40GHz and four CPU cores working at 1.80GHz. The source code of the listing reveals that it is equipped with Adreno 610 GPU. Hence, it can be said that the handset is powered by the Snapdragon 680 mobile platform. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra possibly discontinued in the US ahead of S22 Ultra launch

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra was arguably the best Android smartphone offering from last year. But all good things eventually come to an end, and the flagship offering is no exception. Samsung’s official US site now no longer offers the S21 Ultra as an option, which isn’t all that surprising considering the S22 series is almost upon us.

PhoneArena reports that clicking on the “buy now” button for the phone redirects to S21, S21+, and S21 FE buying options. The page for the Ultra model is still intact, of course, but has been reduced to nothing but an archive now.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Phantom Black Featured

It could be possible that Samsung has done this deliberately so as to not let the S21 Ultra impact S22 Ultra sales, and if that’s the case, then the rest of the S21 lineup will likely get unavailable as well when the S22 and S22+ go on sale.

Or it could be the stocks for the Galaxy S21 Ultra truly running out. The global chip crisis has made it quite difficult for OEMs to maintain a steady inventory of high-end devices, especially of older models.

But it’s not just the US where the S21 Ultra could soon be turning history as the Exynos 2100-powered Ultra has also gone out of stock pretty much everywhere in Europe too. This means that the European variant could be facing discontinuation soon as well.

Still, in the US, if for some reason you’re still looking to buy the S21 Ultra, there are a few options. Best Buy is selling it at $1,200 unlocked and so is AT&T at the same price, for the entry-level 128GB model.

AnTuTu January 2022 phone ranking: iQOO 9 Pro tops the list with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

AnTuTu has just released its latest list of smartphone performance rankings for the month of January 2022. The primary difference over the rankings of the previous months is the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, which brought about a change in the rankings as new flagships hit the market.

AnTuTu

Looking at the listings, Qualcomm’s latest and greatest mobile processor dominated the known benchmarking platform’s smartphone rankings. The iQOO 9 series topped the list, with the iQOO 9 Pro leading the list with a score of 1,020,974, while the base iQOO 9 model came in second with a score of 1,020,156. Similarly, the Realme GT2 Pro came in third with the 1,000,641 points. Rounding up the top five lists, the OnePlus 10 Pro and Xiaomi 12 Pro came in fourth and fifth respectively.

Notably, smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC dominated the list, holding the top 7 of the spots. Meanwhile, devices with the Snapdragon 888 Plus took the last three spots, which included the Black Shark 4S Pro, Red Magic 6S Pro, and iQOO 8 Pro. Although, these models will soon be kicked off the list as newer flagship devices from different brands hit the market soon. This includes the Samsung Galaxy S22 series and others.

AnTuTu

Apart from the premium grade segment, AnTuTu also shared the rankings for the mid range handset category as well. In this list, there is barely any change over the month of December 2021. Almost all of the models in the list featured Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G processor, with only one featuring the Dimensity 900 SoC. The rankings were also more or less the same except a switch in the middle. iQOO Z5 still led the list, with the Honor 60 Pro and Reno7 5G arriving second and third respectively. But with the start of a new year, we can expect Qualcomm to launch new mid range chips later this year.

Nvidia’s $66 billion deal to acquire Arm has collapsed: Report

Nvidia was set to acquire Arm from the SoftBank Group for a whopping sum of 66 billion US Dollars. However, this deal saw scrutiny from various regulators and has apparently collapsed as of right now.

NVIDIA Logo Featured

According to sources close the matter (Via ArsTechnica), Team Green’s deal with the Japanese multinational conglomerate has collapsed due to regulators in the US, UK, and EU raised various concerns regarding the possible market effects it will have on rivals within the semiconductor industry. Some of these concerns included anti competitiveness and even national security risks, while the known graphics card maker also faced a lawsuit by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) last year.

For those unaware, this deal was expected to be the largest ever in the chip industry and would have had Nvidia acquire the company behind ARM’s technology that powers most smartphones across the globe. While companies like MediaTek and others supported the acquisition, others including Qualcomm and Microsoft had objected to the purchase. The report further added that SoftBank will be receiving a fee of up to 1.25 billion US Dollars despite the deal collapsing and is now planning on putting up Arm on an initial public offering.

This will reportedly take place before the end of this year as per one of the people close to the matter. SoftBank might now list Arm in New York as Nvidia reportedly abandoned this deal earlier this week on Monday. This is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt for now, and stay tuned for more updates.

The POCO M4 Pro 5G is set to launch in India on February 15. Although the brand has not disclosed the time, the live stream will most likely kickstart at 12 PM IST.

Since the device is already official in multiple regions, we know everything about it. For the uninitiated, it is a rebranded Redmi Note 11 5G from China. The phone is also known as Redmi Note 11T 5G in India, which is on sale since December.

In a nutshell, the POCO M4 Pro 5G heading to India is nothing but the already available Redmi Note 11T 5G with a few tweaks on the rear panel. According to a tweet by the brand, the handset will be available in blue, yellow, and black color options in the country.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the smartphone comes with a 6.6-inch FHD+ 90Hz display (LCD), MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC, 50MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) dual camera setup, 16MP selfie camera, dual stereo speakers, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11, 5,000mAh battery, and 33W fast charging.
