Vivo NEX A may get in-display fingerprint scanner variant, may launch as NEX A UD

The Vivo NEX comes in two variants – the NEX S which has a Snapdragon 845 processor and an in-display fingerprint scanner and the NEX A which has a Snapdragon 710 processor and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It appears Vivo is working on a NEX A variant with an in-display fingerprint scanner based on recent reports.

A device which is believed to be a Vivo NEX A with an in-display fingerprint scanner has gotten its 3C certification. The document shows the device’s name as Vivo NEX UD A. If you are familiar with Vivo devices, then you should know UD is short for “Under Display” which leads us to believe this is the NEX A with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Vivo NEX A UD

Vivo is not new to releasing two variants of the same phone whose only distinguishing feature is the position of the fingerprint scanner. The Vivo X20 Plus and the Vivo X20 Plus UD is an example.

Apart from the position of the fingerprint sensor, the Vivo NEX A UD should share the same specs as its sibling. So it should launch with a 6.59” Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 710 chipset, 12MP + 5MP dual rear cameras and an 8MP front-facing camera that pops-up from the middle frame.

Acer unveils the Predator Triton 900, a 4K 2-in-1 convertible gaming laptop

Acer was among the first tech companies to hold its IFA 2018 keynote event. At the event held on Wednesday, Acer unveiled some of its innovative products including the powerful Swift 5 as well as the world’s thinnest laptop Acer Swift 7. The two laptops had been unveiled earlier this year but one never before seen product which the company showcased during the event is the Acer Predator Triton 900. The Predator models are gaming laptops and this one isn’t an exception. Acer Predator Triton 900

The Acer Predator Triton 900 looks like other Acer laptops but this model utilizes a convertible screen. The laptop comes with a metal frame around the screen which makes it possible for the screen to be adjusted forward, closer to the face of the user. The screen can also be tilted upward or downward so that there’s less glare. The laptop can also be converted into a tablet when the use of the keyboard isn’t needed or it can be anchored as a tent suitable for streaming movies. It is studded with a CNC-machined hinge which ensures durability.Acer Predator Triton 900

The Predator Triton 900 also features a 4K UHD touchscreen as well as Nvidia’s G-Sync. It also packs a full mechanical keyboard and a switchable trackpad by the side of the keyboard. The trackpad comes with a hidden, light-up number pad underneath. Unfortunately, not much is revealed about the processor or GPU it will feature. The pricing and release date details are also yet to be disclosed.

Xiaomi’s Poco F1 kernel source code released!

One way through which Xiaomi won the heart of fans outside China is by releasing the Mi A1 with stock Android and that was followed by the Mi A2. However, the possibility of the company shipping its phones for the global market with stock Android is very low. This is because the company relies mainly on its growing MIUI ecosystem to generate the revenue that would make up for shortages incurred from the cheap pricing of its models. An easy alternative is to release the Kernel source code of its new models as soon as they are launched in order for developers to come up with Custom ROMs that would bring users closer to stock Android.poco f1

To this end, Xiaomi has released the kernel source code for the newly launched Pocophone F1 smartphone. This announce was contained in a tweet by Jai Mani, head of product at Pocophone Global. The tweet reveals that the source code is available already on GitHub. This is in line with the promise the Xiaomi sub-brand made during the launch of the Poco F1 in India.

Since the Poco F1 runs MIUI9.6 based on Android 8.1 Oreo just like the Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition but with some customization, the kernel source code branch is the same for the Poco F1 and the two Mi 8 models. Xiaomi did hint several months back that it is targeting three months for the release of source code for new models and with less than a month gone since the phone was announced, this is way quicker than we expected.

Vivo X23 official listing reveals design and 3 color variants

In the second half of the year, a new X-series Vivo phone incoming. Vivo X23 will be officially announced on September 6, but thanks to a listing on the official website of the company we can already see its design in all its splendor. From what has been shown on the official site, the handset will be released in at least three color variants: Phantom Purple, Magic Night and Phantom Red. The first is a gradient hue going from fuchsia to purple, the second is a blue hue and the third is a bright red color variant. Vivo X23 comes with an almost full borderless display with a waterdrop notch which only contains the front camera.

In detail, it will have a screen-to-body ratio superior to 90 percent (91.2 percent according to the website). Given that there is no space for a physical Home key like most of the actual bezel-less phones, the fingerprint reader will be embedded in the display like the previous models from the X-series. Alongside the bezel-less screen, the design of the handset is composed of a glass back and an aluminum frame. Besides the design and the three color variants, the official Vivo store also reveals the main specifications. In one of the images published on the official site, we can clearly see the presence of a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The power key and the volume rocker are placed on the right side and there is also an additional key on the left side. On the top right corner of the rear camera, there are dual cameras in a vertical configuration with a LED flash under it. From what the latest leaks suggested, the camera should have resolutions of 12 and 5 MP and it should also be supported by AI. The display is expected to come with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ 1080p resolution. Under the hood, there should be a Snapdragon 670 SoC with up to 8 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM. Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is now AI-backed thanks to a new update

Vocal assistants are getting smarter to perform complex actions on smartphones and many other hi-tech products. This is why artificial intelligence is becoming one of the most important priorities of smartphone manufacturers in order to release innovative and attractive products. Today, thanks to a new update, even the newly-released Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is getting smarter.

The Chinese company has decided to update the new Android tablet with Xiao AI, its own AI-backed virtual assistant which can replace Google Assistant in several areas. Thanks to the new update, Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 can now support vocal commands to perform complex tasks only by hearing the voice of the user. You just need to pronounce a sentence to start video reproduction, music or story selection or even controlling smart home appliances.

Now, the tablet is even more useful and comfortable to use, and this is a very important update given that the Android tablets market is slowly declining as tablets are often considered useless devices. However, Xiao AI is currently a China-exclusive as it is not available in other languages. The new update rolling out on the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is also fixing a camera issue and improving the camera stability.

Nokia 6.1 Plus hitting India tomorrow for Rs. 15,999

After huge demand from the public, HMD Global released the global version of the Nokia X6 back in July to sell it worldwide and called it the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Now, it is finally the moment for the new mid-ranger to go on sale in the Indian peninsula. Until now, the handset was on pre-orders for about a week: tomorrow at 12 PM local time it will be officially available to purchase in India through the known online store Flipkart and the Indian version of Nokia official store. The price tag of the handset will be Rs. 15,999 which roughly translates into $226 or about €193.

It will be possible to grab the Nokia 6.1 Plus in three color variants on Flipkart: Black, Blue, and White, while there will be more colors on the official site. But there will be only one memory configuration available: the one with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, as the global version has only been launched in this configuration. Nokia 6.1 Plus is equipped with an elegant glass back and an aluminum frame. On the front panel, it has a bezel-less notched display with a 5.8-inch size, a 19:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels.

Inside the device, there is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset with a max clock frequency of 1.8 GHz. The main camera is a dual sensor with 16 and 5 MP resolutions, f/2.0 and f/2.4 apertures respectively. The front camera has a 16 MP resolution as well and the same f/2.0 aperture as the primary rear sensor. At last, there is a battery with a capacity of 3060 mAh which can be charged quickly thanks to the Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

What do you think about Nokia 6.1 Plus? Will it cannibalize the sales of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and other SD636-powered devices in the Indian market?

Logitech G PRO Wireless Gaming Mouse is lag free and can last for up to 60 hours

Swiss mobile and computer accessories manufacturer Logitech has launched a new wireless gaming mouse dubbed Logitech G Pro. As the name implies, the model is a high-end mouse with features that supercede those of other existing models in the G series. The model that comes closest to the G Pro is the Logitech G903Logitech G Pro

The new Logitech G PRO wireless gaming mouse’s design and size aren’t very much different from the G903’s. It has a medium to large size, 125mm long and symmetrical body design with bilateral side keys for left-handed users. The shape brings some level of balance and comfort for left-handed gamers. The back has a matte design which will prevent it from slipping but the friction won’t be so strong. The left and right buttons are separate from each other with a scroll wheel at the middle. The power indicator is located on the central axis between the scroll wheel and the logo.

The bottom surface of the Logitech G PRO has concentric circles. The power switch is on the right side of the sensor, and the DPI adjustment button is placed on the left side of the sensor. The DPI button is placed on the bottom to prevent accidental touch which often occurs when it is on the top.Logitech G Pro

For connectivity, the Logitech G Pro wireless mouse can also be used with a wired connection. It comes with a Micro USB interface cable with fixed slots on both sides to prevent the wire from falling off due to mouse movement. In fact, many peripheral manufacturers have similar designs, but the Logitech G PRO uses a standard Micro USB interface that is easy to recognize and the cable can also be used to charge the battery. Talking of battery, the wireless mouse packs a 500mAh battery which can last up to 48 hours in RGB mode and up to 60 hours when RGB is turned off.

The Logitech G Pro is currently sold in China for 899 yuan which is even 100 yuan cheaper than the G903.

Android 8.1 Oreo stable update rolling out to Redmi 5 Plus

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus (or Redmi Note 5 for those who live in India) was released in December last year. When it launched, it came with Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box. Eight months later, Xiaomi has started rolling out a new update that brings Android 8.1 Oreo to the device.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus

The update comes exactly two months after the Redmi Note 5 Pro also received its own stable update. Apart from Android 8.1 Oreo features such as picture-in-picture mode and new emojis, the update also brings Face Unlock to the device and camera improvements. There is also an image search feature, a smart assistant, and performance enhancements.

The update is rolling out slowly, so if you have not yet received it, you should be patient. However, there is a link already available to download the recovery ROM if you don’t want to wait for the OTA. It is over 1GB in size.

Once you are done downloading, move the file to the root folder of the internal storage of your device. Open the Updater app and tap the three dots at the corner, select “choose update package” and select the downloaded file. Follow the instructions on the screen.

The Redmi 5 Plus has a 5.99-inch FHD+ screen. It is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB/4Gb of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage. A single 12MP camera sits on the back of the device while a 5MP sensor with its own LED flash is positioned above the display.

Acer OJO 500 Windows Mixed Reality Headset announced

IFA Berlin doesn’t officially start until August 31 but manufacturers are already at the event and have begun announcing products. Acer is one of the early starters and has announced a new Mixed Reality headset called the Acer OJO (pronounced as oho) 500.

Acer OJO 50 MR headset

The Acer OJO 500 is the first Mixed Reality headset and VR headset with a detachable design. Unlike other headsets, the OJO 500’s lens and head strap can be separated. This makes it easy to clean and comes in handy where one has to share it with multiple users. You also don’t have to completely remove the headset if you need to answer your phone or pause whatever you are doing to interact with the real world as the front can simply be raised up.

Acer OJO 500 Mixed Reality Headset

The headset has two types of head straps. There is a soft one that can be washed (limited number of times) and a hard one that is extra-padded. Irrespective of the one you get, the headset should fit comfortably.

To adjust the distance between the pupils and the screen, there is a wheel for doing that. There is also a special app, Acer IPD Meter, which works with the Acer IPD Indicator software to allow for greater control when adjusting the interpupillary distance (IPD).

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PDxDbnbnaE[/embedyt]

The Acer OJO 500 has two  2.89” LCD displays with a 2880 x 1440 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Unlike Acer’s other MR headset, this one has a deep blue color.

It connects to a Mixed Reality PC via HDMI 2.0 while data is transmitted via USB 3.0. Acer says once it is connected, it downloads the required software and can be ready to use in just 10 minutes. There are two cameras in front for 6DoF so you can move in all directions, pitch, roll, and yaw. A 13ft HDMI cable is bundled with the headset to allow movement within a wider range. For audio, there are sound pipes for spatial audio or you can use the built-in headphones with the hard strap.

Acer OJO 50 MR headset

If you already own a Mixed Reality headset, you do not need to get the motion controllers but you may want to purchase the Windows 10 button touchpad or the grab button for interacting with digital objects.

Rugged smartphone manufacturer AGM has announced its latest smartphone, the AGM X3. Unlike other rugged smartphones, the AGM X3 packs similar specs as other 2018 flagships.

Rugged smartphones are generally not good-looking which shouldn’t be surprising as looks are the last thing on the manufacturer’s mind. The AGM X3 tries to look good while maintaining its strength.

There are two versions of the phone – one with a curved anti-drop back cover and another with crocodile skin. AGM says they have been able to reduce the thickness of the device by 25% and the weight by 13.6% when compared to the previous model to make it more appealing.

AGM claims the X3 is the strongest rugged phone on the planet. It has a floating frame and has a three-proof design (waterproof, dustproof, and drop-proof from a height of 1.5m). It also has a MIL-STD-810G certification and can survive extreme low (-30°C) and high temperatures (60°C).

AGM X3 Cameras

The AGM X3 supports Wi-Fi 2×2 MIMO and dual-SIM dual-VoLTE. There is also Bluetooth 5.0 and a USB-C port. The phone has dual SIM support and uses a hybrid SIM tray which lets you use two SIM cards at once or a SIM card and MicroSD card.  Under the hood is a 4,100mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging, though it comes bundled with a Quick Charge 3.0 adapter.

AGM X3 JBL Sound

The phone has stereo speakers on the back supplied by JBL which are up to 98db loud – twice that of other smartphones. There is also a smart PA audio chip inside the device.

LG Q7 goes official in India but it may be coming too late

LG‘s fortune in the global smartphone market has not been as rosy lately as that of fellow South Korean phone maker and market leader Samsung. The company’s market share and profit margin have both continued to slump for the past successive quarters. That notwithstanding, the company continues to release new smartphones in the various category. The budget segment saw the launch of the LG Q7 alongside the Q7 Plus and Q7 Alpha. Roughly three months after, the Korean firm has launched the budget Q7 in India. The smartphone comes with an Rs. 15,990 price tag which is about $228. It will be available across retail outlets starting September 1.LG Q7

The LG Q7 takes over from last year’s Q6 but this time it is fitted with a 5.5-inch FullVision Display with a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio.  The device is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek MT6750S chipset clocked at 1.5Ghz. The processor is paired with 3GB of RAM while there is 32GB of expandable storage onboard.LG Q7

For photography, the Q7 packs a 13MP sensor with a large f2.2 aperture and PDAF while at the front, there is an 8MP sensor with an f1.9 aperture. Both the front and back cameras can record 1080p video. The  Q7 crams a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge under its hood and runs Android Oreo out of the box. The phone comes in two colours; Aurora Black and Moroccan Blue and will be available across retail outlets in India as from September 1 Rs. 15,990 (~$228). This price point put it in direct competition with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Nokia 6.1 Plus. We doubt if the Q7 will be able to edge them out because they come with a more powerful SoC and have gained solid footings since their launch. We must point out, though, that the Q7 has an awesome design going for it. LG may introduce the Q7 Plus with a similar design but having a Snapdragon 450 processor in the near future.
