Huawei is having a great year, a really great year. After announcing 2 months ago that they have shipped over 60 million phones in the first half of the year, the company has announced the number of Honor 8 units they have sold since the phone launched in July.
Vice President of Honor Announcing The Sales
At a press event held on Friday, Honor’s Vice President, Zhao Ming, announced that the company has sold 1.5 million Honor 8 units till date. Not stopping at that, he also added that ever since the sub-brand was formed almost 3 years ago, they have sold a total of 100 million phones. Part of this numbers can also be attributed to the massive success of the Honor 5x in North America.
The Honor 8 has gotten lots of positive reviews in the US and Europe most especially for its great build quality and price tag. The phone sports a 5.2” FHD display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of storage, dual 12 MP rear cameras with laser focus, a front facing 8 MP camera, fingerprint scanner, and an IR blaster.
Chinese smartphone maker 360 Mobiles released its 360 N4S smartphone in July, packing an impressive specs line-up. The N4S was touted back then to feature two variants running different processors. The rumor seems to be transforming into facts, because the company has sent out a sort of teaser, hinting at an upcoming launch event taking place on September 12. The name “N4S” was inscribed somewhere on the poster as well, which indicates whatever it is that would be released on September 12 would likely be related the 360 N4S.
The teaser appears to be a shot of two box casings of the N4S lying adjacent to each other’s end. While one of the boxes gives the front view, the second paper box casing shows the back view. A crown cork with a text in Chinese scribbled on it, literally translated as “Another bottle”, lies in between the two boxes. Perhaps, the crown cork is teasing the cheap price tag of the N4S, maybe cheap enough to buy a bottle of drink with? Well, not likely, but all the same the expected higher version would likely clutch a moderate price tag. The September 12 launch date was also teased on Weibo by the phonemaker, telling us to expect a surprise in about 93 hours from now.
The 360 N4S hit the market in July cramming a MediaTek Helio X20 chipset alongside 4GB RAM but the upcoming higher-end version of the N4S is rumored to be powered by a Snapdragon 652 chipset with 6GB RAM on board. That would likely be the major upgrade the expected N4S version would sport.
In other specs, the N4S sports a 5.5-inch Full HD LCD display, with a 2.5D glass laid on top. It comes in three storage versions of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB and also there is a MicroSD card slot for expansion up to 128GB. The device also features an IR blaster on the top edge, which can be used for controlling household electronic like TV, Fan, AC, and others. There a massive 16MP rear camera and an 8MP sensor on the front end.
As for the price, the 32GB memory version is priced at a lowly 1199 Yuan ($180) and that is a bargain for all these specs. September 12 is just 3 days away, not too much time to wait for the expected surprise package. The surprise might turn out to be a new device entirely.
China’s Weibo is the home to many rumors and speculations about upcoming products and earlier today, a new leak seems to have thrown some light on the possible specifications of the next generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 (MSM8976Pro) chipset. This should be the successor to the Snapdragon 652 octa-core chip that powers many flagship grade models in the market today.
According to the leak, the Snapdragon 653 will be manufactured using the same 28nm process as the 652, which is kind of disappointing. Further, in the specs department, the leak reveals some changes. So, the new 653 (MSM8976Pro) chip is expected to come with the same octa-core architecture as its predecessor, however, it will be 4 x Cortex A73 @ 2GHz + 4 x Cortex A53 @1.4GHz. Another upgrade will be in the GPU department, this time coming with Adreno 515 clocked at 550MHz. Other rumored features include LTE Cat. 9 3 x 60MHz CA, Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11 ac Wi-Fi support, LPDDR4 RAM, Dual ISP and 24MP Camera sensor support.
At this moment, we can’t verify the authenticity of this leak, so it’s best to take it with a pinch of salt.
Samsung is sure going through a turbulent time right now, especially as the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7’s SDI manufactured battery continues to wreck havoc on its latest Galaxy Note 7 flagship, even despite Samsung recalling the device with that battery model. The Galaxy Note 7 started off on a very strong note, recording a pretty encouraging number of pre-orders and high interest. That was soon eclipsed by reported cases of exploding batteries. What was thought to be a few minor cases of perhaps, use of wrong charger or something, soon became a cause for concern. Just recently, a family in the US accused the Galaxy Note 7 as causing the fire that destroyed their Jeep. The numbers just keep increasing, so is the bad publicity and already competitors have starting capitalizing on that.
A recent image which looks like a promotional post for the Moto Z Droid by the Moto brand currently owned by Lenovo was sighted. The promotional image clearly centered on the Galaxy Note 7’s flawed battery, even when the write-up did not categorically mention Samsung or the Galaxy Note 7.
Moto boasts on the ad that unlike other manufacturers, the company adheres to the highest standard in quality and testing of all our batteries. Talking about smartphone manufacturers and battery quality at this period, the first name that comes to mind is Samsung. The promo which talks about just the battery and not the features of the Moto Z Droid, also talks about how safe the Moto battery is and they even added a promo offer of a free Incipio offGRID Power Pack to extend battery life. Samsung should get prepared for more of these, after all, who isn’t eying the top of the sales chart.
Google first released the September security update for its Nexus devices but surprisingly, Android N update for the Nexus 6P was missing. Only the Android Marshmallow build of Nexus 6P got the security update.
Nexus 6P
However, Google has finally posted a factory image and OTA for the Nexus 6P which can now be downloaded. The Android 7.0 Nougat software update only started rolling out to some Nexus devices very recently, months after the Android N developer preview build was released. Several complaints were gotten from some who updated their softwares to Android 7.0 Nougat on the Nexus 6P, bordering on performance or battery life issues and in some cases both. This latest September security update hopefully will fix all those.
Google Android 7.0 Nougat brings over 250 new features with it. Some of the new features that Google is highlighting includes the 72 new emojis, as well as new Quick Settings controls. Now you’ll be able to customize these Quick Settings to your liking. Something that manufacturer skins and custom ROMs have long been doing. Nougat will make you more productive as well, with multi-window, Direct Reply and Quick Switch. Some apps have already included support for the Direct Reply API, after all Nougat was in developer preview phase for over 5 months, so developers have had plenty of time to get going with Nougat.
The LeEco Le Max 2 seem to be getting aclearance sales, perhaps to make way for the expected Le 2S. Not too long, the Le Max 2 got its price slashed by up to $160 on OppoMart, this time around the Snapdragon 820 powered flagship has gotten a 500 Yuan ($76) price cut on online shopping mall Taobao.
Now the Le Max 2 is available off Taobao for 1549 Yuan ($233), down from 2,099 Yuan ($315). That’s because aside the 500 Yuan initial price slash, there is also a 50 Yuan discount during purchase. So you get to pay 1549 Yuan ($233) instead of 1599 Yuan. Now, this should be the cheapest price tag we’ve seen on the Le Max 2.
The Le Max 2 happens to be the first device to sport the Snapdragon 820 flagship chipset from Qualcomm. The flagship rocks a 5.7-inch display with 2k resolution, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of non-expandable internal storage, as well as a 3,100mAh battery with support for fast charging. In addition, the dual-SIM device packs a 21MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie sensor upfront. The Le Max 2 is devoid of the 3.5mm audio jack and instead has a USB Type-C port for headphones and a host of connectivity options are available on the device.
The ZTE Little Fresh 4 also known as ZTE BV0701 was announced a few months ago. Sporting a 5.2” FHD 2.5D display, it was launched at a price of 1090 Yuan ($163) but now it is available for less at 699 Yuan ($105) bringing it into the $100 FHD league.
$105 is a fair price for a phone that also has LTE (you might want to check the bands), 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, a fingerprint sensor, 13 MP rear camera with autofocus, and a 5MP front camera. The ZTE Little Fresh 4 is powered by a MT6753 chip and juice is supplied by a 2540mAh non-removable battery. You also get Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
ZTE’s Project CSX is quite interesting wherein the company is trying to take inputs directly from the users around the world in order to design the perfect mobile device. While companies like OnePlus are already doing it on a limited scale, with Project CSX, ZTE is trying to take things to a whole new level. In the first stage of the project, the company asked users to pitch in their ideas, and the company got over 400 ideas. Now, in the second stage, the company is taking votes for these ideas.
Make sure you participate and vote for the best idea. You can read more about the project from the link at the end of this article.
We were at IFA Berlin this year and we got some time to spend with the design team of Project CSX. The panel gave us some insight on the design and other important aspects of the Project CSX. We managed to take everything said by the panel on video and we are here to share it with you.

It’s a pretty long video but you can check out the ideas and other details about the project in it.

The first Snapdragon 821 phone, the Zenfone 3 Deluxe was announced over 2 months ago. While being the first phone manufacturer to ”announce”, we thought other manufacturers such as Samsung, LeEco or Xiaomi will beat them to releasing a Snapdragon 821 phone for sale, as ASUS is known for announcing a device but taking months to release it. But surprisingly, no one beat them to it as the Zenfone 3 deluxe is now available for purchase starting in the company’s own home country, Taiwan.
The phone costs 24,990 Taiwanese dollars which is about 5320 Yuan (roughly $800) and will be available in Glacier Silver and Shimmer Gold with the former shipping first by September 12 and the gold by September 23.
The Snapdragon 821 chip is a slight improvement over the Snapdragon 820. It has a higher clock-speed for the CPU and GPU. Qualcomm puts the improvement in performance over the SD 820 at 10%.
Zenfone 3 Deluxe Specs
The Zenfone 3 Deluxe has other things going for it apart from the new chip. It has a 5.7” Super AMOLED 1080p display with Gorilla Glass 4, 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, a generous 256GB UFS 2.0 memory, an 8MP shooter up front, and a 23MP Sony IMX318 rear camera that is protected by sapphire glass. The rear camera has OIS, laser focus, and RGB color sensor calibration.
The phone runs Android 6.0.1 with ASUS Zen UI 3.0 overlay, has dual SIM slots, a fingerprint scanner, a 3000mAh battery with QC 3.0 Support. The Zenfone 3 Deluxe weighs 170 g and is 7.5 mm thick.
Xiaomi’s first product to be sold in the US will not be a phone but an android set-top box called the Mi Box which will run Google’s Android TV and is expected to go on sale in October.
The info was divulged by an insider source at Xiaomi, who said that it will be made available for purchase in early Q4 2016.
Mi Box Specifications
The Mi Box was first demoed at Google’s I/O 2016 event. It has 2GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage (there’s a full-sized USB port as well), can stream 4K videos at 60 fps, has support for Dolby Digital Plus audio playback, DTS Surround Sound and is HDMI 2.0a compatible.
The box will be powered by a quad-core ARM processor and a Mali 450 GPU. It will come with a bluetooth voice remote and Xiaomi says the box will also work with a Mi Game controller for those who want to enjoy android games on a large screen. The controller will probably be sold separately.
While Xiaomi has not released an official statement with regards to pricing, but it is expected to sell for less than $100.
We just got our Huawei Nova Plus review sample and we wanted to share our initial impressions about it. In fact, we played with it at IFA Berlin already and now I’m working on the full review.
In the box, you are getting all the usual stuff that includes a charging brick, USB C cable, SIM ejector pin, a pair of earphones and some paperwork that my review unit did not come with.
Huawei Nova Plus: FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The phone has a 5.5” 1080p display, which uses the LCD technology and it is pretty sharp and vibrant.
The Nova Plus sports a familiar premium design we’ve seen from Huawei. It’s made out of metal, except for those plastic top and bottom parts for antennas.
We have a 16MP camera, which can shoot 4k videos and dual led flash. The image quality seems to be pretty good but I took just a few shots, so I can’t really tell you my verdict on the camera. In addition, there is a have a fingerprint sensor, which so far seems to be pretty accurate and it unlocks your phone straight from the standby mode.
On the front, we have an 8MP selfie shooter and on-screen navigation buttons.
As far as specs, we are looking at the upper-midrange phone. The Nova Plus ships with an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chip with the clock speeds of 2.0GHz, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. The gaming performance has been good so far but I’ve noticed a few skipped frames when playing Asphalt 8.
The Nova Plus ships with the EMIUI 4.1, which is built on top of Android 6.0.
If you have used any other Huawei phone, the user interface will look exactly the same. There is no app tray but there are quite a few added features and customization options. So far, the UI has been fast and fluid but I need to spend a little bit more time with the device.
The Huawei Nova Plus smartphone will be available to buy in over 50 countries starting from October, although a date is yet to be set.
It will be first available in Europe for 429 EUR. The pricing for other countries is yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned to Gizmochina for a full review.

New Mario Game
Nintendo’s classic Super Mario game has also been announced for iOS. The new Mario game is called Super Mario Run and it’s the first iOS game featuring Nintendo’s Mario characters. Nintendo has long resisted bringing Mario to mobile phones, relying on it instead to sell its hand-held DS gaming systems.
The new game, which can be played one handed, will be released in time for the holidays. The game’s price has not been revealed yet.
Apple Pay
Apple also disclosed Apple Pay will be making its grand entrance in Japan in October with a new wireless technology called Felica which would be included in iPhones and Apple Watches that ships to Japan. Apple Pay will hit New Zealand in October and Russia in the fall.
Apple has launched the much talked about iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in a ceremony held in San Francisco, US. Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus debuts with a wide range of new features and upgraded specs from the iPhone 6s. One very spectacular feature missing on the new generation iPhones is the 3.5mm audio jack which had long been captured in rumors to be leaving the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. You don’t have to worry, though, because Apple will include an adapter to enable you still use the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
Apple has given the iPhone 7 a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 3D touch. There is also a new processor in town, a quad-core Apple A10 Fusion chipset which comes along with 3.3 billion transistors making it 40% faster than the previous A9 chips. The A10 processor also comes along with a hexa-core GPU. There is a new 12MP iSight camera with 6-element lens, f/1.8 aperture, High-speed Sensor (60% faster, 30% efficient), support for 4K video recording and quad LED dual-tone flash. It also has a new 7MP Facetime camera. The iPhone 7 comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB, 128GB and 256GB built-in storage options.
On the software, the iPhone 7 runs on the latest iOS 10. In addition, the phone comes with an IP67 rating meaning it is water and dust resistant. The iPhone 7 also has a new home button and this houses the fingerprint sensor. The home button is pressure sensitive with Taptic Engine, so instead of having the feel you pressed the button because it clicked, it will vibrate.
Not only that, the iPhone 7, for the first time, comes with stereo speakers with volume output touted to be twice the volume of the iPhone 6s speakers. There is also some improvement in the battery life of the non-removable battery on the iPhone 7.
iPhone 7 Plus
The iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, features a 5.5-inch Retina HD display with 3D touch and powered by a new quad-core A10 Fusion chipset as well. The processor is accompanied by a 3GB RAM and there are three storage versions available, 32GB, 128GB and 256GB.
The iPhone 7 Plus comes with dual 12MP rear cameras with one having a wide-angle with f/1.8 aperture and the other lens, a telephoto lens with f/2.8 aperture for new depth-of-field. The camera also has OIS along with Quad-LED True Tone flash. On the selfie shooter, there is a new 7MP Facetime camera.
Just like the iPhone 7, the 7 Plus also comes with IP67 water and dust resistance rating. The home button is also pressure sensitive, with Taptic Engine and the fingerprint sensor is embedded on it.
Now coming to the prices, the iPhone 7 starts at $650 ( about 4,334 Yuan), same as the iPhone 6s while the higher-end iPhone 7 Plus will retail at $770 (5,134 Yuan). They come in Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, Black and the new Jet Black finish.
Linas got a considerable amount of time at the ZTE Booth at IFA Berlin this year. You can check out the video below for details about the device.

The Axon 7 mini is a baby Axon 7. It sports most of the great qualities of its bigger brother. For example, it’s made of metal, it sports Hi-Fi audio chips, Dolby Atmos audio system, and powerful front-facing speakers. In fact, the Axon 7 mini won the Technical Innovation award for the exceptional audio quality.
axon 7 mini IFA
The phone sports 5.2” 1080p AMOLED screen, it has an octa-core Snapdragon 617 chip, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.
Other key features include a 16MP camera on the back, a fingerprint scanner and 8MP camera on the front.
Finally, it will retail for just $299 and sound like a compelling offering but we will tell our final verdict in our full review.
Also, there were some other devices that you could take a look at the ZTE booth.
For example, V7 series smartphones that include the V7, V7 Lite and V7 Max fall into budget smartphone category.
All of these phones run on MediaTek processors. The most powerful is the V7 Max as it sports an MTK6755 chip, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage and 5.5” 1080p display.
What is common to all 3 phones is that they run on the Android 6.0 with the ZTE’s skin on top of it, which has tons of features and customization options. Also, all the phones sports great build quality and they are made out metal.
Also, there were dedicated rooms where you could check out the audio, video and VR features of the ZTE devices.
Linas also had a chance to participate in the ZTE’s design panel where the company shared their vision about the design of the products and how their customers actually get involved in designing ZTE’s products.
So that would be it for this short video, I hope you guys enjoyed it and stay tuned for more coverage from IFA Berlin, 2016.
Meizu has released quite a number of smartphones this year but looks like it’s not done yet. The company is still expected to release a Pro 7 flagship, which aside some great specs, would boast of a different and unique design. There are rumors that the major changes on the Pro 7’s design would be in the back.
A recent Weibo post by a purported Meizu staff talked about testing the expected Meizu flagship. The staff also revealed that the back of the device will be without very prominent external antenna band. A recent leak also suggests OPPO is also adopting a similar design without antenna band.
The Meizu Pro 7 is also expected to come equipped with a Samsung Exynos 8890 chipset, wit 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. In addition, the device is rumored to come with a 2K screen and on the camera end, there’ll be a 12MP rear camera and 5MP sensor up front.
If rumors making the rounds are anything to go by, then we are likely to see the Meizu Pro 7 on September 13 for Meizu is rumored to launch the device that day.
Remember the LeEco Pro 3 we covered last week? More details have been revealed about the Snapdragon 821 phone. An undisclosed source says the phone will feature a 5000 mAh battery in a 7 mm body.
That is pretty thin for a phone with such a large battery. The Gionee M6 which has a 5000 mAh battery is 8.2 mm thick. The Redmi Note 3 has a 4100mAh battery and is 8.7 mm thick. See where I’m going?
The LeEco LePro 3 is also expected to launch with a new software that covers video content, has social integration, and other forms of entertainment. We shouldn’t be surprised as LeEco is one of the largest video companies in China and this move may just mean better integration of their own content with 3rd party apps or better features.
Other features expected include 6GB of RAM, 64GB of ROM (don’t expect a SD card slot, LeEco is not known for that), 16MP rear camera, and an 8MP front-facing camera.
The LG V20 is now official. Launched late last night, the phone brings along some new features while retaining some from the LG V10 such as the second display at the top.
First Android 7.0 Nougat Phone
The usual norm is for Google to launch the new version of android alongside the new nexus devices, but this year was different. The new nexus (Pixel) phones haven’t launched yet but older nexus devices are already running Android Nougat.
The LG V20 is the first phone to launch with Android Nougat out of the box and LG wants you to know that. However, it comes with LG’s UX 5.0+ on top.
Dual Cameras Out, Dual Cameras In
The LG V10 launched with 5MP dual front facing cameras and a 16MP rear camera. The V20 on the other hand drops one of the front cameras and adds an extra one to the rear. The camera in front is a 5MP f/1.9 wide angle shooter and the rear cameras are a combination of a 16MP f/1.8 camera with OIS and an 8MP f/2.4 135° wide-angle camera. There is also laser auto focus, PDAF, and dual LED flash.
Hi-Fi Audio, Hi-Fi Video
The LG V20 is the first phone in the world to feature 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC. The DAC chip helps reduce ambient noise levels by up to 50%. LG says listening to audio tracks will sound close to a live performance when using compatible wired headsets. Yes, the V20 has an audio jack.
The V20 also has Hi-Fi video recording which when activated lets you record lossless 24-bit audio alongside your video.

Xiaomi’s smart routers are getting its fair share of attention and the company has managed to sell millions of its devices in the market. Early last year, the company managed to sell only about a million Xiaomi routers, but that number increased to about 3 million by October 2015.
Earlier this year, Xiaomi confirmed that the total sales of its routers exceeded 5 million units! Now, the company has just reported a new milestone of its smart router sales. Xiaomi has revealed that for the first time ever, the company managed to sell over half a million (500,000) units of the Xiaomi router in the month of August.
This is a tremendous achievement for the company and at this pace, selling over a million Xiaomi smart routers in a month could be a possibility very soon!
You can read more about the company’s routers from down below.
Just a few days ago, we were entertained with the Turing Phone Cadenza by Turing Robotics Industries (TRI), which looked more like a concept phone than a phone that would hit the market next year as they promised. While we are still looking forward to where it’ll all end up, TRI has come up again with yet another smartphone with a crazy specs line-up that honestly looks unrealistic, at least for now. They called this one Turing Monolith Chaconne.
If you think the Turing Phone Cadenza is insane, you might want to have a rethink because the Turing Monolith Chaconne packs even more crazy stuff. While the Cadenza was to come powered by two Snapdragon 830 chipsets, the Monolith Chaconne takes the idea even further, featuring three SD 830s. The Chaconne is also said to feature a huge 18GB RAM, that’s an additional 6GB to what the Cadenza boasts of.
In addition, the Turing Monolith Chaconne will sport a 6.4-inch 4K display and would have 768GB of built-in storage as well as two 256GB SD cards, bringing the total available storage to 1.2 TB. The hydrogen fuel cell-equipped battery on the Chaconne gets a boost of 20Wh to 120Wh. Specs shared with the Cadenza include Swordfish OS, the graphene oxide composite construction, the 60MP quad rear-facing camera, the 20MP dual front-facing camera, and quad nanoSIM capability.
That’s not all, the Monolith Chaconne will also have a slide-out keyboard, augmented reality with parallel tracking and mapping, and something called A.L.A.N which we’d get to know about later.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait longer to see if Turing can actually deliver this one because the Monolith Chaconne is slated for release in 2018. As a parting shot, can someone out there please tell me what we need a smartphone with these seemingly doubled up specs for at this point in time?
OPPO R9 turned out to be the company’s best-seller this year, with over 10 million units being sold in the past few months. Now, we are all looking forward to the OPPO R9S, the successor to this model and it looks like the launch might be much closer than we thought.
According to the latest information from China, the OPPO R9S will be released on September 12 i.e. next Monday. The new device is said to feature the company’s ultra-fast Super VOOC fast charging technology, which it first showed off at MWC Barcelona. However, that probably won’t be the only highlight feature of the device, as it is said that the OPPO R9S will feature a special “No Antenna Band” design. We had seen a patent of OPPO’s new design recently and the same could be used on the new device.
OPPO’s new design patent
As for the specs, the OPPO R9S will reportedly come with the Snapdragon 625 chipset instead of Helio P10. The display should be the same as before, a 5.5-inch panel with 1080p resolution. At the front, you should find a 16MP shooter while at the back, a 13MP sensor. Other possible features include 2850mAh battery and dual SIM dual standby with entire network support in China.
