Just as the PC market is starting to move past the chaos of previous GPU shortages, new signs suggest another supply squeeze may be forming—this time driven by memory, not chips.

Rising DRAM prices are reportedly forcing Nvidia to rethink its gaming GPU strategy, with production cuts expected in early 2026. According to industry sources, Nvidia plans to reduce output of GeForce RTX 5000-series gaming cards by as much as 30–40% in the first half of the year. The move comes as memory costs surge and manufacturing capacity is increasingly redirected toward higher-margin server and AI accelerators.

One early casualty of the situation appears to be Nvidia’s rumored GeForce RTX 5000 Super lineup. The refresh was expected to deliver up to 50% more VRAM at the same price point across both desktop and laptop GPUs, but the plan has reportedly been scrapped due to DRAM supply constraints.

Affordable, higher-memory models are likely to be hit hardest. The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and RTX 5070 Ti are said to be among the most affected, as larger VRAM configurations are becoming increasingly expensive to produce.

Nvidia is said to expect softer gaming demand in 2026, partly due to a lighter release calendar. Still, cuts of this scale risk repeating a familiar pattern: limited availability, rising prices, and frustrated buyers.

The impact may extend well beyond graphics cards. Analysts warn the broader DRAM crunch, fueled by explosive demand from AI companies such as OpenAI, could push laptop prices up by at least 20%. Budget notebooks may fall back to 8GB of RAM, smartphones could ship with just 4GB again, and even upcoming gaming devices may see higher price tags.

Cyberpunk 2077 just hit its five-year anniversary — hard to believe, considering how rocky its launch was and how far it’s come since. Despite everything, it’s still one of the most visually striking games on PC, thanks in no small part to NVIDIA’s early push for ray tracing. To mark the milestone, NVIDIA is dusting off something fans probably thought would never see daylight again: an original GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Cyberpunk 2077 Edition, and yes, it’s signed by Jensen Huang himself.

These cards were already rare when they were new. NVIDIA only made 200 of them back in 2020, and none ever hit retail shelves. Seventy-seven were given away during the original Cyberpunk promotion, and the rest essentially vanished into storage. Now, NVIDIA is offering up two more units — and at least one reportedly carries Jensen’s signature, which pretty much turns it into a collector’s grail piece rather than a GPU anyone would actually install.

The card itself is impossible to mistake: a custom AL5052 aluminum shroud in that unmistakable yellow-and-black Cyberpunk scheme, turquoise accents, and a matching backplate. Under all that flair, though, it’s still a standard RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition. It launched with support for the game’s original ray-traced effects and DLSS 2.0, but modern features like RT Overdrive, DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction, and DLSS 4 are out of reach for Turing. Not that it matters — whoever wins one of these isn’t going to be gaming on it. This is the kind of hardware you put behind glass.

If you don’t win but really want the look, there are third-party reproduction shroud kits floating around on eBay for people who happen to own a regular RTX 2080 Ti FE PCB. It’s not quite the same, but it’s a way to get close.

ASUS has announced the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Special Edition of its TUF Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card, made in collaboration with AMD and Call of Duty. According to TrendForce, Nvidia is working on the next generation of B100 and B200 GPUs that are based on the Blackwell architecture. The new GPUs are expected to hit the market in the second half of this year and will be used for CSP cloud customers. For those unfamiliar, “CSP cloud customers” refers to customers who use Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) for their cloud computing needs. The company will also add a streamlined version of the B200A for OEM enterprise customers with edge AI needs.

It is reported that TSMC‘s CoWoS-L packaging capacity (that is used by the B200 series) continues to be tight. It is mentioned that the B200A will switch to the relatively simple CoWoS-S packaging technology. The company is focusing on the B200A to meet the requirements of the Cloud Service Providers.

B200A technical specifications:

Unfortunately, the technical specifications of the B200A are yet to be fully clear. For now, it can only be confirmed that the capacity of HBM3E memory is reduced from 192GB to 144 GB. It is also reported that the number of layers of the memory chip is halved from eight to four. Nonetheless, the capacity of a single chip is increased from 24GB to 36 GB.

The power consumption of the B200A will be lower than the B200 GPUs and it will not require liquid cooling. The air cooling system of the new GPUs will also make them more easy to set up. B200A is expected to be supplied to OEM manufacturers around the second quarter of next year.

Supply chain surveys show that NVIDIA’s main high-end GPU shipments in 2024 will be based on the Hopper platform, with H100 and H200 for the North American market and H20 for the Chinese market. As the B200A will become available around the second quarter of 2025, it is expected to not interfere with the H200, which will arrive on or after the third quarter.

The highest configuration of the Adreno X1, dubbed the “X1-85,” boasts up to 6 shader cores with a total of 1536 FP32 ALUs (Arithmetic Logic Units). Additionally, it can process a staggering 72 million pixels of data per second.

Ampere has announced the launch of its Altra Dev Kit, an 80-core Arm development kit that offers support for Nvidia RTX GPUs, all at a price point similar to that of high-end conventional systems. The kit is targeted at those looking to prototype hardware or software for edge computing, but its potential uses extend far beyond that niche market.

Intel has reportedly chosen to partner with TSMC to produce its next-generation Battlemage and Celestial GPUs, set to release in the second half of 2024 and 2026, respectively. According to Taiwanese media outlet ctee.com.tw, the Battlemage GPU will use the Xe2 architecture and be manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process node, while the Celestial GPU will use the Xe3 architecture and be manufactured using TSMC’s N3X (3nm) process node.

Microsoft’s Edge browser is introducing its version of Video Super Resolution (VSR), a technology that improves the quality of low-resolution videos. The feature is currently available to 50% of Edge insiders and will be enabled for the rest, later. Users can also enable this feature manually by changing the browser’s flag.

The AI-powered VSR technology removes compression artifacts and enhances text clarity in videos, improving the viewing experience. The technology is limited to low-resolution videos, specifically videos with resolutions lower than 720p, and videos that are not protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM), which means it may not work on premium streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video.

The technology requires significant computational power, and as such, Microsoft has limited its use to devices with NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs (GeForce RTX 20, 30, and 40 Series with Tensor Cores) and AMD Radeon RX GPUs (Radeon RX 5700 up to Radeon RX 7800). The technology is only available when the device is connected to AC power and the video being played has a height and width greater than 192 pixels.

While the technology is limited to discrete GPUs, Microsoft is working on automatic hybrid GPU support for laptops with multiple GPUs. This means that future versions of the technology may utilize both the integrated and discrete GPUs on laptops.

Due to the computation power required to cleanup and upscale videos, video super resolution (VSR) is currently offered only when the following conditions are met:

The device has one of the following GPUs:
NVIDIA RTX 20/30/40 series OR AMD RX5700-RX7800 series GPUs.
The video is played at less than 720p resolution.
The device is connected to AC power.
Both the height and width of the video are greater than 192 pixels.
The video is not protected with Digital Rights Management technologies like PlayReady or Widevine. Frames from these protected videos are not accessible to the browser for processing.

The new Chipset will be a major competitor to Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the Apple Bionic A16 SoC. There are several improvements which will enhance the performance and efficiency of the chipset.

The octa-core chipset will be based on TSMC’s 4nm process and will feature Immortalis-G715 GPU. It appears to house a single Cortex X1 core at 3.05GHz clocking speed, three Cortex A715 cores with a clocking speed of 2.85GHz and four economy Cortex A510 cores at 2.0GHz speed. The configuration is also said to offer better cameras and enhanced network speed.

Meanwhile, the Immortalis-G715 GPU will feature ray tracing hardware offering better light and shadow depth effects. The build process and MediaTek’s technology have paved the way for its exciting increase in performance and efficiency.

The new chipset is set to launch with the Vivo X90 in the coming few weeks.

In a recent Manhattan ES 3.0 off-screen benchmark, the Dimensity 9200 GPU performed better than the Apple Bionic A16 SoC. The Dimensity 9200 scored 328 FPS, meanwhile, the Apple A16 managed to get 280 FPS, and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 attained 280 points.

There is a massive leap in GPU performance in comparison with its predecessor – the Dimensity 9000. As per reports, the GPU performance of the new MediaTek flagship will be on par with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

Additionally, the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 is launching on November 8, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC will launch at Qualcomm’s summit between November 15 -17.

Intel has a new lineup of graphic processors under the Arc lineup, and the company recently announced one of the GPUs along with the 13th generation Intel Core-series chips. Now, the company has announced Intel Arc A750 GPU.

The new Intel Arc A750 GPU is targeting the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, and based on the benchmarking tests, Intel claims that these new GPUs offer more value-for-money goodness compared to the RTX 3060.

As for the specifications, the Arc A750 comes with 28 Xe cores, 28 ray-tracing units, a 2,050MHz graphics clock, along with 8GB of memory and up to 512 Gb/s of memory bandwidth, having a 225W of total power.

Intel had said that the Arc A770, which was announced a few days back, offers 42 percent better performance per dollar compared to the RTX 3060, while the A750 is touted to offer 53 percent better performance on a per-dollar basis.

Although the company is praising its own GPUs for being better than what the competition is offering, we will have to wait for the actual reviews to know for sure where they stand. It is not yet known which card manufacturers, apart from Intel itself, will build these new Arc graphics processors.

Intel Arc A750 starts at $289, while the two other GPUs from the company, A770 and A770 Limited Edition, start at $329 and $349, respectively. All three graphics processors will start shipping from mid-October.

EVGA, one of the largest manufacturers of graphics card add-in boards, has announced that the company will stop making NVIDIA video cards based on NVIDIA’s next-generation of GPUs and won’t be immediately switching to AMD or Intel.

As a result, NVIDIA is losing its largest add-in board (AIB) in North America, and the broader North American video card market is losing one of its biggest and best-known vendors in this segment.

The development comes at a time when the financial outlook is bleak in the sector post-Ethereum Merge and “mistreatment” from its partner NVIDIA. The company spokesperson said in a statement, “EVGA will not carry the next-generation graphics cards. It will continue to support the existing current-generation products. EVGA will continue to provide the current-generation products and is committed to our customers and will continue to offer sales and support on the current lineup.”

For those who are unaware, while NVIDIA and AMD design the GPU that sits on the board, the actual card itself that slots into a computer are built by third parties such as EVGA, ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte. This is done to separate the low-margin business from the high-margin business of designing the actual chips.

EVGA notes that the AIB margins have been slowly shrinking over the past couple of decades, which reportedly have fallen from 25% in 2000 to 10% in 2015, and finally an estimated 5% this year. Meanwhile, as NVIDIA has slowly ramped up its own efforts to directly sell its Founders Edition (reference) video cards, AIBs like EVGA have been put in a position of directly competing with their partner-turned-supplier.

Earlier this year, Nvidia had announced that it will be relaunching some of its older graphics cards to help offer more low cost options in the market. And staying true to its word, the company has just rereleased the GeForce RTX 2060, which now features 12GB of VRAM.

For those unaware, the world is suffering from a global shortage of chipsets/semiconductors. During this time, Team Green had launched its highly anticipated RTX 3000 series. However, lack of supply paired with scalpers and crypto miners buying these GPUs in bulk meant that regular gamers and other customers couldn’t get their hands on the new cards. This even drove up the market prices for older cards and the second hand market as well. But now, these older cards could help ease this issue since scalpers and crypto miners are likely steer clear away from these low cost graphics card.

The new RTX 2060 will be available starting from 7th December 2021 and features slightly bumped up specs as well. This includes a higher base clock speed and a slight higher count of CUDA cores, with the newer model featuring 2,176 over the original’s 1,920. In certain ways, the specs are more in line with the refreshed RTX 2060 SUPER rather than the base 2060 from the last generation. Another notable difference is the VRAM that is now a sizeable 12GB, which is even higher than the high end RTX 3070 and RTX 3080.

Meaning, this could be a “premium” refresh of the RTX 2060. But unfortunately, Nvidia has yet to official reveal the pricing details for this GPU. Although, the RTX 2060 that launched back in 2019 retailed for 349 US Dollars. So, we can expect a price tag that is similar to this. While the effort to help ease the GPU shortage and scalping issue is a welcomed one, a single GPU in front of an overall chip shortage might not be quite effective as of right now.

Intel, one of the world’s leading chipset manufacturers, has announced a brand new lineup of high-performance graphics cards — Intel Arc. The first generation product under this new series will be launched in Q1 2022.

The codename of the first upcoming Intel Arc graphics processor is Alchemist and will be based on the Intel Xe HPG microarchitecture, with performance rumored to be capable of taking aim at the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070.

The company has also announced that the Arc range will cover multiple generations of graphics hardware, with Battlemage, Celestial, and Druid listed as the codenames for future generations of Intel gaming GPUs.

Intel had previously launched DG1 — a card that was released only to system builders which performs a lot like the GDDR5 version of Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1030.

Currently, there’s no information available about the specifications for the upcoming Intel Arc graphics card but the trailer from the company confirms that it will come with support for modern features like real-time ray tracing and “AI Accelerated Super Sampling” that will compete with Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD‘s FidelityFX upscaling technologies.

If the current shortage of graphics cards extends to next year, then Intel has a unique opportunity of attracting gamers desperately trying to get their hands on anything in the GPU space that they can get their hands on.

As of now, we don’t have any information about the performance, pricing, or availability of any Arc cards yet but we should know more about the new Intel’s dedicated graphics cards before they go official early next year.

It has been two years since Samsung announced its partnership with AMD on mobile GPUs but we are yet to see the first product borne from the agreement. The Korean tech giant was expected to announce the GPU this month but that will no longer happen.

At the beginning of this year, Samsung revealed that its next flagship Exynos chipset will have an AMD GPU. Popular leaker, Ice Universe, revealed in a tweet back then that the GPU will be announced this year and may even appear in the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Fast forward to February and the leaker disclosed that the co-developed GPU will be announced in June with the main processor scheduled for later. Now a new update from the leaker says that the launch has now been postponed to July. The info was revealed in a tweet earlier today. Sadly, no reason was provided for the postponement.

Last month, Samsung mentioned at Computex, that the GPU will be based on the RDNA2 architecture, the same one used for the GPUs inside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and Series X consoles. He went on to say that the next-gen Exynos chipset with the new GPU will bring features such as ray tracing and variable rate shading capabilities.

We are all pumped to see what Samsung and AMD has prepared. While we are sad we will have to wait a bit longer, if it means they get more time to fine tune its performance, then the better.

Samsung and AMD have been working together for developing a custom GPU and are expected to launch later this year. The processor, under the Samsung Exynos lineup, will be the most powerful from the South Korean giant.

Now, a new report coming from The Korean Economic Daily, Samsung could also plan to launch a laptop powered by this new chipset. While not yet confirmed, the name of the chipset is likely to be named Exynos 2200.

This new processor will be powering the upcoming flagship smartphones as well as tablets from Samsung. Now, the rumors suggest that it will also be used to power a laptop, competing against Apple M1 chipset which is now being used for laptops and tablets.

Samsung could be launching a Windows-powered laptop in the second half of this year. However, it’s noteworthy that this won’t be the first ARM-based laptop from Samsung as the company has already launched Galaxy Book S powered by Snapdragon 8Cx chipset.

But, it will be the first Samsung will be using the same chip to power its laptop as well as smartphones. To be honest, we don’t expect the South Korean company to launch Exynos 2200-powered phone anytime soon but there’s a possibility that next year’s Galaxy S22 lineup could come equipped with it.

Currently, there’s no information available about the upcoming new chipset and it’s too early to know for sure. We expect to know more about it in the coming weeks and months, as the official announcement nears.

Huawei is all set to launch its next-generation Mate-series flagship smartphones on 22nd October — the Huawei Mate 40 lineup. The devices will come powered by the company’s own Kirin 9000 chipset.

As per the latest information shared by well-known leaker Ice Universe through a benchmark screenshot, the upcoming Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 9000 SoC is seen sporting a 24-core GPU. It is noted that the Mali G78-MP24 GPU is clocked at lower frequencies to distribute the load and keep devices power efficient.

Last week, the chipset appeared on AnTuTu benchmarking platform, which revealed that it scored 693K+, almost on-par with the Samsung Exynos 1080 SoC but posted better results when it comes to the graphics processing.

The Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 9000 will be up against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 SoC and the Samsung Exynos 1080 SoC, both of which are expected to be powering the smartphones launching next year.

Huawei MateBook 14 2020 laptop has received an upgrade in terms of its graphics processor. The company has upgraded its GPU to MX350 and even after this upgrade, there’s no change in the pricing of the laptop.

The development comes just days after it was reported that the MateBook 13 2020 and MateBook 14 2020 both will get upgraded to MX350 GPU. However, the Huawei MateBook 14 2020 with MX350 GPU is yet to be listed online for sale.

The NVIDIA GeForce MX350, built on 14nm proces, was launched in February 2020. It is based on the GP107 graphics processor in its GP107-670-A1 variant and features 640 shading units, 32 texture mapping units, and 16 ROPs. The company has paired 2GB GDDR5 memory with the GeForce MX350 and the GPU is operating at a frequency of 1354 MHz, which can be boosted up to 1468 MHz, while the memory is running at 1752 MHz.

The Huawei MateBook 14 comes with a 14-inch display with 2K screen resolution offering 2160 x 1440 pixels with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. It comes powered by the Intel‘s 10th-generation Core i5 and i7 processors.

Huawei, the Chinese giant which is the world’s leading telecom equipment manufacturer and the second largest smartphone maker, has been actively in the process of becoming self-sufficient and dominate various markets ever since the U.S. government put the company on Entity List last year, effectively banning it.

While Huawei already is one of the very few smartphone chipset markers, the company is now planning to enter the Graphic Processing Unit aka GPU server market which is currently being dominated by NVIDIA.

As per the report coming from Korea, Chinese giant Huawei will be setting up a Cloud and AI Business Group in South Korea in year. It also adds that the business group will later be spun off for further growth.

Huawei Korea has three different divisions: Carriers, Enterprise and Consumer. The new Cloud & AI BG in Korea will be placed under the Enterprise division. The report mentions that the company is currently recruiting experts for this new business organisation, including former and current employees, as well as executives from NVIDIA.

Huawei already has experience in developing chipsets, apart from smartphone processors. In August last year, the company unveiled Ascend 910 touting it to be the world’s most high-quality AI processor which recorded a speed of 256TeraFLOPS — twice the speed of NVidia’s GPU Tesla V100.

Last year, in December, Qualcomm had announced the capability of deliviring GPU driver updates via Google Play Store but added that it will be limited to new chipsets only such as Snapdragon 865 and SD765.

However, the company has now announced that some Snapdragon 855 powered smartphones will be the first devices to get support for this new GPU driver update tool through Google Play Store.

Currently, the list of supported devices for this GPU driver update tool include Samsung Galaxy S10, Samsung Galaxy Note 10, and Google Pixel 4 series and Qualcomm further says that more devices will get the same feature later, without specifying any timeline.

This announcement is a part of a partnership of Qualcomm with Google for Android GPU Inspector tool for developers that allows to inspect mobile GPU usage (including Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU) in games to figure out where improvements can be made.

Samsung’s Exynos 9820 has started taking shape. The chipset will be Samsung’s first 7nm chipset and will power the likes of the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 next year.

A new info has surfaced regarding the SoC’s GPU. According to IceUniverse, the Exynos 9820 will come with a Mali-G76 MP18 GPU. This is ARM’s latest GPU that was announced back in May.

The Mali-G76 will be ARM’s first 7nm GPU and it brings a 30% increase in performance, 30% better energy efficiency, and 2.7x improvement in machine learning. The GPU can have between 4 to 20 cores but Samsung is going with 18 cores just like it did with the Exynos 9810’s Mali-G72 GPU.

Samsung’s decision to use ARM’s GPU is borne from the fact that its own in-house GPU which is in development won’t yet be available for its flagship device(s).

The first generation models of its (Samsung) GPU will first be used in its low-range devices. The second-generation models will be used in its high-end phones, self-driving cars, and machine learning. So, we don’t expect to see Samsung use it in its flagships until 2020 at the earliest.

The Exynos 9820 will most likely be unveiled at the end of the fourth quarter.

Last year, Apple made a big change to the GPU used in its chipset. Rather than a PowerVR GPU from Imagination Technologies, it used its own custom GPU and cut ties with its supplier. That singular act by Apple put Imagination out of business as Apple was its biggest client. Now, there is news Samsung is developing its own GPU too.

An exclusive report by Winfuture.de has revealed that Samsung has been recruiting talent from companies like Nvidia, Qualcomm, and AMD for new GPU teams at its Texas and California offices.

The new teams are said to be working on “flagship GPUs” which will first be used with Samsung’s low-range devices. Its more expensive flagships will continue to use ARM-based GPUs. The second-gen model of its GPU will be used in its high-end phones and even in self-driving vehicles and machine learning.

Samsung’s GPU will be built from the ground-up and won’t be based on ARM designs. Samsung will also develop the software and instruction set and a new platform that will take advantage of the GPU’s features. Production should not be an issue since Samsung already has that covered.

Samsung isn’t the only big name manufacturer that is working on its own in-house chipset. Google is doing the same too. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL both have a custom-built image processing chipset for their cameras called Pixel Visual Core. It allows third-party apps to take advantage of the HDR+ feature of the Pixel camera. The Pixel 3 (and Pixel 3 XL) are expected to feature an improved version of the Pixel Visual Core. Amazon is also reported to be developing its own custom AI chip for use in its future Echo devices.

AMD says all four companies used visual processing infringing on its concepts for unified graphic shaders and parallel graphics pipelines. If AMD’s allegations turn out to be true, we could see a product ban placed on items manufactured by the affected companies. USITC says that the list of respondents includes LG Electronics USA, LG Electronics Korea, and LG Electronics MobileComm USA; Mediatek Inc. Taiwan, Mediatek USA; and Sigma Designs Inc. CA.

An official statement by USITC says “The USITC will make a final determination in the investigation at the earliest practicable time. Within 45 days after institution of the investigation, the USITC will set a target date for completing the investigation. USITC remedial orders in section 337 cases are effective when issued and become final 60 days after issuance unless disapproved for policy reasons by the U.S. Trade Representative within that 60-day period”.

AnTuTu has a tradition of releasing the list of top smartphones benchmarked on its app. We have been covering the top 10 list for the past few months and just now, AnTuTu has released the top 10 flagship smartphones in terms of performance for the month of November. Given that we have seen a couple of new Chinese flagships released in this period, there is no surprise that the list has a few changes.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and the Huawei Mate 9 are the two new additions to the list. Of course, there was the OnePlus 3T launch, as well as the Meizu Pro 6 Plus launch, but we will see them added to this list only in the month of December. This is because this list is compiled by calculating the average scores with data from at least 2000 models. So, despite the Mi Note 2 launching in October, it only made it to the list in November. Similarly, the data for the Xiaomi Mi Mix is still inadequate to be included in this list.

In terms of performance, Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are still on top. The best Android flagship is still the LeEco Le Pro 3, which is a steal at its sub-$350 price tag. The Pro 3 is followed by Mi 5S Plus and Smartisan M1L. The next two in the list are the new additions in November, namely the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 with an average score of 148,352 and the Huawei Mate 9 following close behind with an average score of 146,942. Seeing the Mate 9 in this list clearly shows how much Huawei’s Hisilicon chips have progressed in the past couple of years. AnTutu also noted that Huawei recently removed the temperature control restrictions on the Mate 9’s Kirin 960 via a new update which helped the chip inside to unleash its full GPU potential, helping it improve its overall scores.

The list also clearly shows that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chipset rules the Android flagship market.

Huawei has officially unvelied its latest super processor – Kirin 960 which brings with itself some strategic upgrades both in CPU and GPU. The Huawei Kirin 960 SoC comes with a modest upgrade in its CPU from Kirin 950 but on the GPU end, the new chipset sees a huge upgrade.

According to a source at the unveiling, Huawei Kirin 960 comes equipped with the recently unveiled high-performance ARM Cortex-A73 CPU core. The processor still uses the lower ARM Cortex-A53 core and in all the octa-core Kirin 960 SoC is composed of four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores.

More damning claim from the conference is the one concerning the Kirin 960 Versus Snapdragon 821 processor.  When subjected to Geekbench 4.0 test, the Kirin 960 is said to have scored 2000 points on the single-threaded scores and up to 6300 points on the multi-threaded score.

In addition to the CPU upgrade, the Huawei Kirin 960 chipset gets a big boost in its graphics unit, featuring the Mali-G71 MP8 GPU which were subjected to test on GFXBench Manhattan and T-Rex. The Kirin 960’s GPU performance comes out higher than that of Snapdragon 820 SoC and even twice as much power as Kirin 950. Apple A10 chip is still ahead, though.

According to Huawei, the Mali-G71 GPU is based on a truly new architecture which comes with a new level of high-end mobile graphics technology with superior energy efficiency. In addition, the Kirin 960 also supports the latest UFS 2.1 flash memory, LPDDR4 memory and on the network end, it supports LTE Cat.12 and LTE Cat. 13. A new baseband that supports CDMA is also at play.

The Huawei Mate 9 would get the opportunity of being the first device to feature the Kirin 960 and until that happens we’ll only hold our peace concerning these stunning claims.
