I remember last year, just before the LG V40 ThinQ was launched, the device appeared on Geekbench. The benchmark result revealed the phone would run Android Oreo out of the box, and I was disappointed.

For a phone launching two months after Android Pie was released, it wasn’t acceptable for a flagship. Manufacturers like Huawei was also going to launch its own flagship around that period with Android Pie pre-installed.

Eight months after the release of Android Pie and six months after the release of the LG V40 ThinQ, LG is yet to update the device to Android Pie. Yesterday, the Korean company revealed the update schedule for the phone and other V series phones such as the V30, V30S ThinQ, and the V35 ThinQ.

According to the source, the four phones will get the Android Pie update by the end of June, ten months after Android Pie was released.

At the moment, the LG G7 One and the LG G7 ThinQ are the only two LG Phones that have been updated to Android Pie. The former got it first because it is an Android One phone.

LG is terrible when it comes to releasing timely updates. None of its flagships released this year is running a stable version of Android Pie yet and that will be so for months to come. The Korean manufacturer has revealed its update schedule for Android Pie and there isn’t much to be excited about if we are being honest.

LG says the first device to get a stable Android Pie update is the LG G7 ThinQ and the update will arrive in Q1 of 2019. The update will most definitely start rolling out first in its home country, so expect a further delay if you reside somewhere else.

Own the LG V40 ThinQ? LG didn’t reveal when you’ll get Android Pie but they did say that it and the LG G6 will get performance updates that will fix some issues and bring new features.

The LG V30 and LG G7 ThinQ will also get performance updates this month which will also come with security patches.

LG devices run a custom-version of Android called LG UX. However, this year, it released its first Android One phone, the LG G7 One which runs stock Android. It is no coincidence that it has gotten updated to Android Pie.

Nevertheless, LG isn’t the only manufacturer with a customized version of Android, so it isn’t an excuse for its lackadaisical attitude when it comes to updates. Brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Samsung have already started rolling out Android Pie to their devices.

LG announced the V40 ThinQ about a month ago with the major focus being on the combined five cameras which the device packs at its front and rear. The LG V40 ThinQ also comes with an attractive design but we are not sure how well the device will perform against the competition. However, if you own one or plan to get one, the latest Android Pie update may soon be available on the model, bringing the latest features which the new Android version offers.

This much was revealed by a GeekBench listing of an LG model with model number LGE LM-V405. This is the V40 ThinQ and it ran through the benchmark app with obviously a test build of Android Pie onboard. The model was also listed to have 6GB of RAM onboard.

Although LG is yet to officially announce anything of such, the listing does mean the update could be close. LG isn’t very fast with latest update , though, so an update may not land very soon. The LG V40 ThinQ was released less than a week ago and LG has done well by releasing its kernel source code. This means developers can begin making custom ROMs for the phone right away.

Manufacturers are required to release the kernel source code for their phones but a lot of them fail to do so. Some eventually do but months after the phone’s release. However, there are other manufacturers who release the source code for their phones even before they go on sale.

The source code for the LG V40 was actually released on October 5, two days after the phone was announced. LG has released for all the five variants of the phone and they can be downloaded from the source link below.

The LG V40 ThinQ comes with Android Oreo out of the box and while it has been confirmed that it will be updated to Android 9 Pie soon, we know LG isn’t the quickest with updates. With the source code now available, developers can make custom ROMs based on Android Pie for those not willing to wait for LG’s update.

The LG V40 ThinQ is one of the new devices that launched last week. It is an impressive device but it remains to be seen how well it does in terms of sales. However, there are speculations that the Korean electronics giant will be raking up huge losses by the end of the year.

Despite the predicted loss, LG believes things will get better. LG’s hope is on the 5G revolution which will kick off next year for smartphones. Speaking in an interview following the unveiling of the V40, the president of LG’s mobile division, Hwang Jeong-Hwan, said their company is one of three manufacturers ready to launch a 5G-ready smartphone when 5G roll-out begins. LG believes this should give them a headstart and an increase in sales for the first half of 2019.

The LG G7 ThinQ maker already has a contract with Sprint which will see it release the carrier’s first 5G-smartphone. The device, according to the US network, will be “shiny and distinct¨ and will launch in the first half of 2019. Although nothing is known about the device’s specs and features, it appears it won’t be an updated version of the LG V40 ThinQ.

It’s already known that LG is all set to launch the LG V40 ThinQ smartphone, featuring a five camera setup. Now, ahead of the phone’s official launch, Evan Blass has shared LG V40 ThinQ’s renders through Twitter, which showcases the phone’s design and the placements of its five camera sensors.

On the back side, the phone features tripe-camera setup, which appears to have been placed horizontally along with an LED flash. Previously leaked renders have revealed that there’ll be a fingerprint sensor placed just below the camera sensors. Earlier leak suggests that the camera could comprise a 16MP primary sensor, a 12MP super wide-angle lens and an 8MP telephoto zoom lens.

Coming to the front side, there will be two camera sensors, possibly with a combination of an 8-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel sensor. LG has announced three flagships this year. First, it announced the V30S ThinQ at the beginning of the year, it then launched the LG G7 ThinQ in May, and followed it with the V35 ThinQ in the same month. Its next flagship is expected to be the LG V40 ThinQ and there is a chance it is the device that just showed up online.

The new device was discovered in firmware files gotten by XDA Developers. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 845 and is codenamed “judypn”. Apparently, it is related to two of LG’s other phones that have launched this year as they have similar codenames (LG G7 ThinQ = “judyln” and LG V35 ThinQ = “judyp”).

One XDA comment says the codenames points to their display type and design. For the LG G7 which is known as “judyln” – the last two alphabets mean it has an LCD display and a notch while the V35 ThinQ a.k.a “judyp” has a P-OLED display, and this new device “judypn” has a P-OLED display and a notch. Seeing as LG’s V-series comes with P-OLED displays, this is one proof that it is the LG V40 ThinQ.

Another proof is the presence of a dedicated Google Assistant button. The firmware is said to have the same “hot1_key” present in the firmware files of the LG G7 ThinQ. The V35 ThinQ doesn’t have this button. Android news site, Android Police already reported that the V40 will come with a dedicated Google Assistant button.

Yet another evidence that further confirms that the “judypn” device is the LG V40 ThinQ is found in its model numbers. They are listed as LM-V400N, LM-V405N, and LM-V409N. LG’s other flagships follow a similar pattern for their model numbers. The G7 ThinQ, for example, has model numbers LM-G710, LM-G710N, and LM-G710VM while the V35 ThinQ has model numbers LM-V350 and LM-V350N.

All of the above devices point at the device being the V40 ThinQ but there is also evidence that it isn’t. The cameras, for example, are different from what was earlier reported.

The V40 is reported to come with triple rear cameras and dual front-facing cameras for a total of five cameras. However, the firmware files mention dual rear cameras with both sensors having OIS and one being a wide-angle lens.

Another evidence is the codename which is quite different from what popular leaker, Evan Blass revealed earlier. In a tweet, he mentioned that the LG V40 is code-named “storm” but as you can see above, that isn’t the case. This is probably Mr. Evan being wrong or the phone having two codenames as is the case with the LG G7 ThinQ judging from his tweet.

LG launched the V30 in August last year, we don’t know if it will be sticking to the same schedule or pushing it forward to create more space between its devices. Nevertheless, we expect more news about the upcoming flagship to surface in the coming weeks.

Earlier this year, LG launched two smartphones — LG V30S ThinQ and LG V35 ThinQ as the company’s flagship smartphones. Now, the company is expected to launch the next-generation LG V-series flagship — LG V40 ThinQ later this year.

This development hints that after LG V40 ThinQ, there will be five more smartphones in the LG V-series as the company has now registered a trademark for LG V90 moniker in Mexico. Currently, there’s no more information available regarding the company’s future plan for the V-series smartphones.

Earlier, the South Korea-based company had said that instead of launching a flagship smartphone every year, it’ll launch new smartphone when it deems necessary. However, it is expected to launch the V40 ThinQ this fall.

The upcoming flagship smartphone is expected to come with an OLED display with over 90 percent screen-to-body ratio and a notched display that users can hide. Further, the device will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and will come with the company’s proprietary Quad DAC, and a dedicated Google Assistant button.

Interestingly, the LG V40 ThinQ is expected to arrive with five cameras out of which three will be placed on the back panel. The triple camera setup is expected to include 20-megapixel, 16-megapixel, and 13-megapixel sensors. The device is said to feature a super wide-angle lens and a super-telephoto lens.

There’ll be two cameras on the front for 3D face scanning for the advanced facial recognition feature, similar to what we’ve seen on Apple iPhone X, Oppo Find X and Xiaomi’s Mi 8. The phone is also expected to pack 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

The phone will run Android P operating system out-of-the-box with a custom interface on top. According to the reports, LG is expected to announce the LG V40 ThinQ in September and could start selling the device in October.

However, the company is yet to confirm on its launch date. A South Korean publication has recently revealed juicy details on the upcoming V40 ThinQ smartphone.

According to ET News, the LG may announce the V40 ThinQ smartphone in September and release it in the market in early October. Last year, LG had launched the V30 smartphone at the IFA 2017 expo at the end of August. It seems that LG may skip the IFA 2018 event this year and announce the V40 ThinQ later in September.

In September, Apple will be announcing the three new iPhones which includes two OLED smartphones and one LCD phones. It is speculated that the two OLED iPhone may hit the market in September whereas the entry-level LCD iPhone may arrive in the market by mid-October or early November. The October arrival of the LG V40 ThinQ seems to be well-planned release to ensure that its arrival is not disturbed by Galaxy Note 9 and 2019 iPhones.

A report from the previous month had claimed that the LG V40 ThinQ would be arriving with five cameras. It revealed that the notch of the phone would be housing a dual selfie camera setup at the front. And, the backside of the phone will be equipped with triple camera setup. Waqar Khan who is known for making renders of upcoming smartphones has recently released LG V40 concept renders to tease the expected design of the smartphone.

The LG V40 renders show off its notched display design. The notch houses two camera sensors along with an earpiece. Since it features a notched screen, it will be offering a higher screen space than the predecessor LG V30.

The backside of the LG V40 features a design very similar to that of LG V30. Instead of the dual camera setup, the V40 houses a horizontally arranged triple camera setup with a fingerprint scanner placed below it. The report from the previous month claims that the triple camera setup of the V40 ThinQ will include a super wide-angle lens, a standard wide-angle sensor and an unknown third sensor.

The specs of the LG V40 ThinQ are still under the wraps. The upcoming flagship phone from LG is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 845. It may possess topnotch multimedia features like the predecessor model. It is also pegged to feature proprietary Quad DAC and a dedicated button for accessing Google Assistant.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is slated to debut on Aug. 9. The LG V40 ThinQ will be one of the major rivals for Note 9. Like the predecessor V30, the V40 ThinQ is likely to get unveiled at the beginning of IFA 2018 that will run between Aug. 31 and Sept. 5. The recently unveiled V35 ThinQ was launched with $899 pricing. The V40 ThinQ is likely to priced higher than $899.
