<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp</a> is working on adding a new security feature to its web client, focusing on improving the privacy of chats that are locked. This upcoming feature, known as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/12/01/whatsapp-rolls-out-secret-code-for-chat-lock/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">secret code feature</a>, is designed to secure conversations by requiring a code to access locked chats. This development follows the recent introduction of Chat Lock in Web beta, a feature that allows users to lock specific chats, extending privacy and security measures to the Web platform.</p>

<h2>WhatsApp Web&#8217;s Upcoming Secret Code Feature for Locked Chats</h2>

<p>The secret code feature for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp-web/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp Web</a> is under development and is expected to be released in a forthcoming update. According to a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, users will need to enter a secret code to access their locked chats. This move aims to ensure that sensitive conversations remain confidential and protected by an additional security layer, a PIN.</p>

<p>The introduction of a secret code offers significant benefits for user privacy and security. It provides an additional layer of protection against unauthorized access to sensitive conversations, especially in shared or public computing environments like cybercafes.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="639" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/WhatsApp-Web-Secret-Code-Feature-639x1024.jpg?x10805" alt="WhatsApp Web Secret Code Feature" class="wp-image-605874" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/WhatsApp-Web-Secret-Code-Feature-639x1024.jpg 639w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/WhatsApp-Web-Secret-Code-Feature-187x300.jpg 187w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/WhatsApp-Web-Secret-Code-Feature-768x1232.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/WhatsApp-Web-Secret-Code-Feature-958x1536.jpg 958w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/WhatsApp-Web-Secret-Code-Feature-696x1116.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/WhatsApp-Web-Secret-Code-Feature-1068x1713.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/WhatsApp-Web-Secret-Code-Feature-262x420.jpg 262w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/WhatsApp-Web-Secret-Code-Feature.jpg 1070w" sizes="(max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px" /></figure></div>

<p>This feature ensures that even if users forget to log out, private communications remain inaccessible without the secret code. It is also useful for individuals who share their desktop devices or work in environments where multiple users have access to a single computer. Eventually, WhatsApp plans to roll out this <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/11/whatsapp-to-sync-chat-locks-across-devices-for-enhanced-security/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">feature across all devices</a> to enhance security wherever WhatsApp is accessible.</p>

<p>Details about the release of this new feature will be shared in future updates. According to earlier reports, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/whatsapp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp</a> is also working on a revamped interface for its web client, aiming to provide a modern and visually appealing experience for users. This update includes enhancing the dark theme with a curated color scheme and adding tabs for better navigation.</p>

<p>Moreover, WhatsApp is also experimenting with several new features for the mobile versions, including a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/18/whatsapp-beta-tests-new-status-tab-design/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">redesigned status tab</a> and a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/21/whatsapp-is-testing-a-file-sharing-feature-like-androids-quick-share/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">file-sharing feature</a> similar to Android&#8217;s Quick Share. Additionally, reports suggest that WhatsApp plans to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/09/whatsapp-to-allow-cross-platform-messaging-following-eu-regulations/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">enable cross-platform messaging</a> to comply with EU regulations.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp </a>is finally bringing back a highly requested feature on the WhatsApp Web and Desktop. Users will soon be able to access View Once photos and videos outside of their mobile devices again.</p>

<h2>WhatsApp View Once returns to Web and Desktop</h2>

<p>For those unaware, you previously had access to View Once media. But as of November 2022, the social media company decided to remove this feature from its official browser platform and PC app. The feature was taken down over privacy reasons last year. However, it is finally making a return on all major platforms again. View Once was recently spotted for Web and Desktop following a recent update.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-Logo-6-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="WhatsApp-Logo" class="wp-image-571344" width="918" height="516" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-Logo-6-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-Logo-6-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-Logo-6-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-Logo-6-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-Logo-6-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-Logo-6-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-Logo-6.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 918px) 100vw, 918px" /></figure></div>

<p>According to a <em><a href="https://wabetainfo.com/whatsapp-is-rolling-out-a-feature-to-send-view-once-photos-and-videos-from-desktop-apps/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WABetaInfo </a></em>report, WhatsApp Web and Desktop users have had the View Once feature working. It seems like the functionality became functional again after updates to the desktop client and the website. This feature seems to be working on both the Windows and macOS builds of the WhatsApp Desktop. To elaborate the feature, View Once basically lets you send pictures and videos that are only limited to a single view.</p>

<p>In other words, once a person clicks on the View Once message in the chat, the media will disappear and can not be accessed again. While previously you could take a screenshot if it was a picture, the company released an update that made screenshots ineffective. WhatsApp recently also added <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/11/21/whatsapp-email-verification/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Email verification</a> to further enhance the security measures. </p>

<p>WhatsApp continues to gain new features and functions. For example, we recently told you that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/11/07/whatsapp-email-profile-verification/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">e-mail verification feature </a>will be coming to the application. However, there is a problem for Meta, the owner of the application. WhatsApp is a free application and does not generate any revenue for the company in any way. For this reason, there have been rumors for a long time that advertising will come to the platform. Finally, Will Cathcart, the head of the company, answered questions such as &#8220;Will WhatsApp be paid and will it show ads?&#8221; Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Get Ready to See Ads While Using WhatsApp</strong></h2>

<p>Let&#8217;s start with the question of whether WhatsApp will be paid first. No, the application will not be paid under any circumstances for now. However, a step has been taken towards making it paid. Will Cathcart announced that there will be no ads in the chat section of the application, but they plan to show ads in the Status and Channels sections.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-rolls-out-self-destructing-audio-messages-in-Beta-1024x536.jpg?x10805" alt="WhatsApp rolls out self-destructing audio messages in Beta" class="wp-image-576374" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-rolls-out-self-destructing-audio-messages-in-Beta-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-rolls-out-self-destructing-audio-messages-in-Beta-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-rolls-out-self-destructing-audio-messages-in-Beta-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-rolls-out-self-destructing-audio-messages-in-Beta-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-rolls-out-self-destructing-audio-messages-in-Beta-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-rolls-out-self-destructing-audio-messages-in-Beta-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WhatsApp-rolls-out-self-destructing-audio-messages-in-Beta.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>We do not have any information about how advertising will be displayed in the Channels section. However, we have information about the Status section thanks to Instagram. As we are used to from the social media platform, we will see Status-formatted ads when switching between shares. This is of course an annoying development for a platform that is free. The real question is what can happen later.</p>

<p>As you know, many platforms that were once free and earned money with advertising revenue are now implementing different strategies. They charge users monthly for their services. In return, they offer additional features such as ad-free experience to their users. For example, we can show YouTube and its Premium subscription as the most suitable platform for this tariff.</p>

<p>Of course, this is a comprehensive speculation, but WhatsApp also has the potential to announce a similar paid subscription. Users will choose between an ad-supported and Premium package. The company will both earn money from each user and have a justification for direct charging. Only time will tell if this scenario will actually happen.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp-web/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp Web</a> beta has introduced an anticipated screen lock feature, enhancing user privacy. This functionality, previously in development, has now been made available to a select group of beta program participants. The feature allows users to safeguard their WhatsApp Desktop beta application with a password, preventing unauthorized access.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-desktop-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="WhatsApp Web" class="wp-image-559124" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-desktop-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-desktop-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-desktop-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-desktop-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-desktop-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-desktop-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-desktop.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h2>Securing Chats with Screen Lock</h2>

<p>To activate this feature, users need to update to the latest version of WhatsApp Web beta and join the official beta program. Upon activation, the user&#8217;s conversations are protected behind a password prompt. The settings for this feature can be adjusted, including when the password prompt appears. If users forget the password, they must log out and back in by scanning the QR code.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="678" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-Web-beta-screen-lock-feature-1024x678.jpg?x10805" alt="WhatsApp Web beta screen lock feature" class="wp-image-559125" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-Web-beta-screen-lock-feature-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-Web-beta-screen-lock-feature-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-Web-beta-screen-lock-feature-768x508.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-Web-beta-screen-lock-feature-696x461.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-Web-beta-screen-lock-feature-1068x707.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-Web-beta-screen-lock-feature-634x420.jpg 634w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/WhatsApp-Web-beta-screen-lock-feature.jpg 1367w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>This screen lock feature provides a notable privacy advantage. Even if an unauthorized individual gains access to the user&#8217;s computer, their <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/whatsapp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp</a> chats, and messages remain inaccessible without the password. Notably, push notifications are suppressed when the screen is locked, further bolstering privacy. This measure ensures the confidentiality of conversations and thwarts attempts to access personal information.</p>

<p>The screen lock feature is progressively being rolled out to more WhatsApp Web beta users who have the latest version.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp</a> is developing new features in beta, including <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/15/whatsapp-ai-generated-stickers/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">AI-generated stickers</a> and a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/11/whatsapps-multi-account-feature-is-finally-here-for-beta-testers/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">multi-account option</a>. In one of the recent betas, we have also seen a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/12/whatsapp-beta-scheduled-group-call-feature/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">scheduled group call feature</a>.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp</a>, the popular messaging app, has recently started rolling out a series of updates that indicate a comprehensive redesign of its application. The first clue came with the release of WhatsApp beta for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Android</a> version 2.23.10.6, which introduced a redesigned interface featuring a bottom navigation bar. This change suggests that WhatsApp is committed to revamping the entire app in small, incremental steps.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/WhatsApp-designed-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="WhatsApp designed" class="wp-image-540641" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/WhatsApp-designed-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/WhatsApp-designed-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/WhatsApp-designed-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/WhatsApp-designed-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/WhatsApp-designed-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/WhatsApp-designed-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/WhatsApp-designed.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Illustration: Soumyakanti</figcaption></figure>

<p>Further <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/01/whatsapp-material-you-ui-elements-for-android/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">confirmation of the redesign was found in the WhatsApp beta</a> for Android version 2.23.12.3 update. This update showcased a new style for toggles, aligning with the Material Design 3 guidelines. It seems that WhatsApp is dedicated to following these guidelines in its redesign efforts, paying attention to even the smallest details.</p>

<p>In the most recent <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp-beta/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp beta</a> for Android version 2.23.12.15 update, another significant change was discovered. WhatsApp plans to revamp the floating action button, which allows users to quickly initiate new chats. The new floating action button will feature a square shape with slightly rounded edges, consistent with the Material Design 3 guidelines. This redesign will not only apply to the floating action button but also to buttons within the calls and status tabs.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="970" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-970x1024.jpg?x10805" alt="Whatsapp redesigned floating button" class="wp-image-543436" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-970x1024.jpg 970w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-284x300.jpg 284w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-768x811.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-1455x1536.jpg 1455w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-1940x2048.jpg 1940w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-696x735.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-1068x1127.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-1920x2027.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whatsapp-redesigned-floating-button-398x420.jpg 398w" sizes="(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px" /></figure></div>

<p>The redesign of the floating action buttons is currently under development and will be released to beta testers in a future update of the app. This update addresses a long-standing user request for a refreshed interface, demonstrating that WhatsApp has taken user feedback into account.</p>

<p>In addition to the interface redesign, WhatsApp is working on several other exciting features. The app&#8217;s beta version introduces a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/08/whatsapp-beta-hd-photo-sharing-update/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">high-quality photo-sharing option</a>, allowing users to share HD photos without losing any quality. The latest beta update also brings a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/07/whatsapp-new-beta-update-redesigned-keyboard/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">redesigned emoji keyboard</a>, enhancing the visual experience of expressing emotions through emojis.</p>

<p>Furthermore, WhatsApp is actively <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/30/whatsapp-working-on-screen-sharing-for-android-phones/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">developing a screen-sharing feature for Android phones</a>. This feature will enable users to share their screens with others during conversations, enhancing collaboration and support possibilities.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp</a>, the popular instant messaging platform, has released a highly anticipated feature that allows users to edit their sent messages. The feature which was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/06/02/whatsapp-let-users-edit-messages-soon/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">announced last year</a> is currently available to beta testers on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp-web/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp Web</a> and is expected to be rolled out to all users in the near future. The move is part of WhatsApp&#8217;s ongoing efforts to improve its platform and meet its users&#8217; needs.</p>

<h2>Say goodbye to embarrassing typos and mistakes on WhatsApp</h2>

<p>According to <a href="https://wabetainfo.com/whatsapp-web-beta-gets-a-feature-that-allows-users-to-edit-messages/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WABetaInfo</a>, a site that tracks WhatsApp&#8217;s latest developments, the edit messages feature can be accessed from the menu options for any text message. Users who select this option will be prompted to edit the message within a new window. The edited messages will be updated for everyone in the chat, as long as they have the latest version of WhatsApp.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="698" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Whatsapp-Web-Edit-message-feature-698x1024.jpg?x10805" alt="Whatsapp Web Edit message feature" class="wp-image-535834" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Whatsapp-Web-Edit-message-feature-698x1024.jpg 698w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Whatsapp-Web-Edit-message-feature-204x300.jpg 204w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Whatsapp-Web-Edit-message-feature-768x1127.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Whatsapp-Web-Edit-message-feature-1046x1536.jpg 1046w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Whatsapp-Web-Edit-message-feature-696x1022.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Whatsapp-Web-Edit-message-feature-1068x1568.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Whatsapp-Web-Edit-message-feature-286x420.jpg 286w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Whatsapp-Web-Edit-message-feature.jpg 1184w" sizes="(max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px" /></figure></div>

<p>To ensure the authenticity of the conversation, the feature comes with a time limit of 15 minutes to edit messages, and users can edit them multiple times within this period. This is to prevent users from completely changing the message after a long time, as the feature is primarily intended to correct typing errors.</p>

<p>The edit messages feature is currently only available for WhatsApp Web beta users, but WhatsApp beta for Android users can expect to get it soon too. The latest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp-beta/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp beta</a> for Android 2.23.10.10 update on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/03/google-play-store-35-5-14-android/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Play Store</a> suggests that this is the final stage before the official launch of the feature.</p>

<p>WhatsApp has been receiving a lot of updates and enhancements recently, including more <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/22/whatsapp-keep-in-chat-update-disappearing/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">control over disappearing messages</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/12/whatsapp-companion-mode-android-beta/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">companion mode</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/26/whatsapp-introduces-multi-device-support-four-phones/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">multi-device support</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/30/whatsapp-introduces-side-by-side-mode-android-tablets/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">side-by-side for tablets</a> and a UI revamp for Android users. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/20/whatsapp-bring-animated-emoji/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Animated emojis</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/03/whatsapp-beta-gif-chat-lock/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">autoplay GIFs</a> are also said to be arriving soon on WhatsApp, indicating that the company is keen to maintain its position as one of the best messaging apps worldwide.</p>

<p>Overall, the new edit messages feature for WhatsApp web users will undoubtedly be a welcome addition for many users who have been waiting for this feature for some time. With more features in the pipeline, it seems that WhatsApp is committed to improving its platform and providing users with a better messaging experience.</p>

<p>Messaging yourself on social media isn’t as crazy as it sounds. Applications like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Messenger">Messenger</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/instagram">Instagram</a> and Slack have had this functionality for quite some time now. In the latest WhatsApp update, users can send messages to themselves within the application.</p>

<p>Since <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/meta">Meta</a> also owns WhatsApp, the ‘message yourself’ feature was bound to make its way to the application sooner or later. A lot of people use this feature to add information that they have to memorize, for instance, a shopping list or a to-do list for the day. You can also pin your location within the chat for future reference. Since users open their messaging applications multiple times in a day, there is a much higher chance of people revisiting their notes and lists. Additionally, users can easily search through their messages to find any saved messages &#8211; or in this case, notes to self.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-1024x683.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-509814" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-1920x1280.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/amin-moshrefi-z3jCMSm4Rrc-unsplash-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>For users who use WhatsApp on their computers via WhatsApp Web, their messages (or notes) will get synced across all their devices, adding an extra layer of convenience to the instant messaging platform. Furthermore, time-sensitive reminders can be added through Disappearing Messages, which allows users to send messages that vanish after a specific amount of time. The time can vary between 24 hours and 90 days, making it ideal for adding reminders that become obsolete after a certain time span. Users won’t have to go through the hassle of deleting their messages/reminders one by one.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Whether you are using the new Message Yourself feature to leave yourself affirming messages or memorize important information, Meta is definitely bringing WhatsApp’s messaging capabilities up to the level of its other platforms. Try out the new WhatsApp feature on your smartphone, or head over to <a href="https://web.whatsapp.com/">https://web.whatsapp.com/</a> to do so. The feature should be rolling out to all users in the latest update. </p>

This feature allows users to make and receive calls and send messages without having their smartphone connected to the internet.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-141653 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/whatsapp-promo.png?x10805" alt="whatsapp china" width="1200" height="630" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/whatsapp-promo.png 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/whatsapp-promo-300x158.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/whatsapp-promo-768x403.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/whatsapp-promo-1024x538.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>Now, the company has launched a native Windows app that no longer uses the old web-based backend and has been updated to run natively on Windows. The new app can be downloaded from the <a href="https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/whatsapp/9NKSQGP7F2NH" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Microsoft App Store</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-475691 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/WhatsApp-Web.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="1500" height="900" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/WhatsApp-Web.jpg 1500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/WhatsApp-Web-300x180.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/WhatsApp-Web-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/WhatsApp-Web-768x461.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/WhatsApp-Web-696x418.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/WhatsApp-Web-1068x641.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/WhatsApp-Web-700x420.jpg 700w" sizes="(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px" /></p>
<p>The native app is more smooth and more optimized compared to the web-based version. The interface has also been redesigned to look cleaner and more consistent with the Windows interface.</p>
<p>Users will still need to link it to a smartphone account that’s linked to a phone number. Once your devices are connected, you can use end-to-end encryption to send and receive messages, make WhatsApp calls, and more. Up to four linked devices can be utilized when your phone is offline, but after 14 days have passed since your last usage of your phone, linked devices will be automatically logged out.</p>
<p>A native macOS software from WhatsApp will also be released, however, it is still in the works. The WhatsApp MacOS software is now in closed beta testing and will be released as a MacOS &#8220;Universal app,&#8221; which means it will be built on the WhatsApp iPhone app and run natively on Apple silicon laptops.</p>

<p>For those unaware, this feature will remove the online connection requirement on your smartphone for the chatting platform to be used on multiple devices. Previously, users had to have a stable internet connection on their smartphones to be able to use the messaging service on any other device like a desktop PC, or a laptop. In other words, it had to be linked to your smartphone to have the conversations synced.</p>
<p>The feature allows up to four linked devices and one phone at a time and will disconnect the linked devices if the phone stays inactive for 14 days. According to WhatsApp, viewing live location is not possible on paired devices. Creating and viewing broadcast lists or sending messages with link previews from WhatsApp Web cannot be performed on secondary devices. Also, iPhone users cannot delete or clear a chat on linked devices.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-450760 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/WhatsApp-message-reactions.png?x10805" alt="WhatsApp message reacts" width="959" height="629" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/WhatsApp-message-reactions.png 959w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/WhatsApp-message-reactions-300x197.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/WhatsApp-message-reactions-768x504.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/WhatsApp-message-reactions-696x457.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/WhatsApp-message-reactions-741x486.png 741w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/WhatsApp-message-reactions-640x420.png 640w" sizes="(max-width: 959px) 100vw, 959px" /></p>
<p>Relatedly, WhatsApp is also rolling out the <span class="red-underline" data-startindex="44" data-endindex="50" data-paragraphid="301">Message</span> reaction feature for some Android users on the beta channel of the app. The feature will work the same way as it does on most other platforms. The company had promised earlier this year that it would remove the online connection requirement on your smartphone for the chatting platform to be used on multiple devices. Now, this feature is finally here.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-364952 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Featured.jpg?x10805" alt="WhatsApp" width="976" height="549" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Featured.jpg 976w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Featured-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Featured-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Featured-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Featured-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 976px) 100vw, 976px" /></p>
<p>Previously, users had to have a stable internet connection on their smartphones to be able to use the messaging service on any other device like a desktop PC, or a laptop. In other words, it had to be linked to your smartphone to have the conversations synced. But now, after several months of beta testing, the social media giant is finally letting users disable this requirement altogether on any linked device. So, you can now run WhatsApp without your phone being connected as well (Via <a href="https://www.phonearena.com/news/whatsapp-android-iphone-update-multiple-devices_id136240" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>PhoneArena</em></a>).</p>
<p>Although, the company has limited the number of total devices that can be connected to WhatsApp at the same time to four at the moment. So, look out for the update as it should offer you a new feature under the &#8220;Linked devices&#8221; tab. After enabling this, WhatsApp will remove all previously connected devices and you will have to manually add them again. But now, these devices can run chats independently from your handset.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-308394 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark.jpg?x10805" alt="WhatsApp" width="4468" height="3177" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark.jpg 4468w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark-300x213.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark-768x546.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark-1024x728.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark-696x495.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark-1068x759.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark-591x420.jpg 591w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/whatsapp-dark-1920x1365.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 4468px) 100vw, 4468px" /></p>
<p>Notably, the feature is currently not working on tablets and there are also certain limitations on iPhones like not being able to delete a conversation on a connected device. For the sake of security, the company has added an auto disconnection feature on these connected devices, if WhatsApp is not run on your primary smartphone in 14 days.</p>

Today, the company has rolled out a new security feature for WhatsApp Web and Desktop users.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-319843" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WhatsApp-Logo.png?x10805" alt="WhatsApp Logo" width="1280" height="1067" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WhatsApp-Logo.png 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WhatsApp-Logo-300x250.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WhatsApp-Logo-768x640.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WhatsApp-Logo-1024x854.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WhatsApp-Logo-696x580.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WhatsApp-Logo-1068x890.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/WhatsApp-Logo-504x420.png 504w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></p>
<p>WhatsApp in a Tweet, <a href="https://twitter.com/WhatsApp/status/1354700879312560128">announced</a> that it is rolling out Facial recognition and Fingerprint authentication for Web and Desktop users. For the unaware, WhatsApp apart from <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a>/<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ios">iOS</a> mobile platforms, offers services in Web(via Internet browser) and Dekstop(via Software) mode on computers.</p>
<p>The Desktop mode is available for <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows">Windows</a>, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mac-os">Mac OS</a> and Web works on any internet browser but require linking their accounts from mobile phones. Anyway, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp">WhatsApp</a> says that with the new feature, users will require to authenticate in their phones while linking/logging into their Accounts to the Web/Desktop.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-368160" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Web-Desktop-Fingerprint-Face-Unlock-Feature.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="1600" height="1600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Web-Desktop-Fingerprint-Face-Unlock-Feature.jpg 1600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Web-Desktop-Fingerprint-Face-Unlock-Feature-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Web-Desktop-Fingerprint-Face-Unlock-Feature-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Web-Desktop-Fingerprint-Face-Unlock-Feature-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Web-Desktop-Fingerprint-Face-Unlock-Feature-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Web-Desktop-Fingerprint-Face-Unlock-Feature-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Web-Desktop-Fingerprint-Face-Unlock-Feature-1068x1068.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WhatsApp-Web-Desktop-Fingerprint-Face-Unlock-Feature-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>Back in 2019, we saw evidences of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/28/whatsapp-fingerprint-authentication-and-dark-mode-appears-in-latest-beta-version/">fingerprint authentication</a> on Android Beta. After rounds of Beta testing, the feature made it to the final version. Shortly before, the iOS users also got the authentication but it was Face Unlock owing to the absence of fingerprint on newer flagships.</p>
<p>Similarly, WhatsApp is equally focusing on PC as its recently got support for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/17/whatsapp-rolling-out-audio-video-calls-pc-users/">Audio/Video calls</a>. Coming back, the new update for Web/Desktop adds an extra layer of security which was a simple QR code scanning before.</p>
<p>WhatsApp also says that the authentication is taken care of by respective APIs and it doesn&#8217;t have access to the biometric data. Nevertheless, the feature, which is currently not available for everyone, will be rolling out to Android(eligible &#8211; with fingerprint)/iOS(above 14+) users in the coming days.</p>
<p>After this, by default, you need to authenticate the linking and if you wish to remove it, you have to disable the fingerprint/face unlock on your phone as a whole. That said, the next big update could be the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/21/whatsapp-mutiple-device-support-final-stage/">multi-device support</a>.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://wabetainfo.com/whatsapp-beta-for-android-2-20-200-10-whats-new/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>WABetaInfo </em></a>report, WhatsApp has dedicated a team to work on making the entire browser service more secure. The Facebook owned messaging platform is apparently going to receive a security update that will bring fingerprint authentication for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp-web/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">WhatsApp Web</a>. As per the report, one would have to open WhatsApp on their smartphones and scan their fingerprint to initiate the web session of their PC.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/17/samsung-galaxy-note-20-discount-9000-inr-india/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung Galaxy Note 20 price discounted by 9,000 INR ($122) for a week in India</a></strong></h6>
<p>The report also featured a screenshot of the security feature in action. At the moment, WhatsApp Web only requires users to scan a QR code on their desktop/laptop screen to initiate the connection, with the smartphone being required to have a stable internet connection as well. This is rather straightforward and essentially lacks any direct form of security.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-342810" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/WhatsApp-Web-fingerprint-security-WABetaInfo-600x1200.jpg?x10805" alt="WhatsApp" width="375" height="750" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/WhatsApp-Web-fingerprint-security-WABetaInfo-600x1200.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/WhatsApp-Web-fingerprint-security-WABetaInfo-600x1200-150x300.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/WhatsApp-Web-fingerprint-security-WABetaInfo-600x1200-512x1024.jpg 512w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/WhatsApp-Web-fingerprint-security-WABetaInfo-600x1200-210x420.jpg 210w" sizes="(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px" /></p>
<p>Unfortunately, finer details regarding this security update is currently unknown. It is also unclear whether WhatsApp will be doing away with the QR code entirely in exchange for this feature&#8217;s addition. However, any addition or focus toward privacy is always a plus point for the consumer. So stay tuned for more updates, which should arrive soon.</p>

After bringing the dark mode on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/04/whatsapp-stable-receives-dark-mode-for-android-and-ios/">WhatsApp stable app for iOS and Android</a>, the WhatsApp Web is the next to get it officially. However, the users can rely on our guide to manually enable the hidden dark mode on WhatsApp Web.</p>
<p>It is quite an easy process to activate the dark mode after upgrading the app to the latest beta version. Here&#8217;s a workaround to enable the new mode with these few steps.</p>

<h3><strong>Steps to enable Dark Mode on WhatsApp Web</strong></h3>

<ol>
<li>Download and install Stylus extension for Chrome browsers from the store.</li>
<li>Now open the web.whatsapp.com and scan the bar code if using for the first time.</li>
<li>You will see the dark theme for the browser automatically.</li>
<li>Users can change the color schemes by heading to the extension setting.</li>

Earlier, the functional of sending a couple of stickers in a single row was limited to the WhatsApp for Android or iOS. After continuous development for over the past some months, the feature is gradually rolling out for all the users on its web client.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-289946" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/WHATSAPP-LOGO-1024x555.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="696" height="377" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/WHATSAPP-LOGO-1024x555.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/WHATSAPP-LOGO-300x163.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/WHATSAPP-LOGO-768x416.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/WHATSAPP-LOGO-696x377.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/WHATSAPP-LOGO-1068x579.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/WHATSAPP-LOGO-775x420.jpg 775w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/WHATSAPP-LOGO.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>

<p>WABetaInfo reported about the change via Twitter and asked the users to restart the WhatsApp Web session to get the new grouped stickers feature. However, the feature is currently rolling out in a staged manner to check any issue before the broader rollout. The users need to wait as it may take some hours to a few days to reach every user.</p>
<p>These Grouped Stickers allows the users to save some space on the message interface. It also appears to be more user-friendly while continuing a conversation.</p>

<p>WhatsApp has always remained a hotspot for data thieves or hackers. The developers keep infusing new features and upgrading the old ones, to overcome the security issues. Despite such efforts, some loophole always remains in the system that helps the attackers to steal data. Similarly, WhatsApp reported about <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/11/18/whatsapp-critical-security-bug-threat-mp4-file/">malicious MP4 video file </a>security anomaly that was present on the messaging application for the past few months.</p>
<p>Additionally, WhatsApp recently received support for<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/11/01/whatsapp-fingerprint-lock-android/"> fingerprint unlock</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/02/whatsapp-brings-self-destructing-messages-to-beta-versions/">self-destructing messages</a>, and others.</p>
