Xiaomi took an important step towards cementing its place in the global market when it launched the Mi A1 in 2017. What made the new A-series stand out was the pure Android operating system that it had onboard. Since then, Xiaomi has gone on to launch the Mi A2 and A3, all under Google’s Android One project. It has now emerged that the Mi branded models are an important part of the Android One project. In two years after its launch, the A series has achieved outstanding results.

During the Mi A3 launch, the company shared some data on the progress of the A-series. Data by market research firm Canalys shows that the sales volume of the Mi A1 in 2017 was 2.4 times more than those of other Android One handsets. In the same light, the Mi A2 sales when it was launched in 2018 was still far ahead of other Android One phones like the Nokia 3.1, Nokia 6.2 and Motorola One series. On the whole, the company says it has sold over 10 million units of the Mi A series.

We expect the Mi A3 to equally be a successful Android One phone even though it packs a disappointing HD+ display.  Apart from delivering a native Android operating system, Googe’s Android One project also brings the latest software update and on time.

Xiaomi Mi A3 Specifications and Features

The Xiaomi Mi A3 packs a 6-inch HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. Design

There are huge differences in the aesthetics of these smartphones for both looks and materials. No matter which display you choose, you will get more or less the same quality. All are midrange-class IPS panels with Full HD+ resolutions and their sizes are similar. The only important differences are the notch and the aspect ratio. Xiaomi Mi A2 has an 18:9 display without a notch, Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has a 19:9 display with a medium-sized notch and Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has an even taller 19.5:9 screen with a small waterdrop notch but slightly thicker bezels than Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. I would personally go for the Xiaomi Mi A2 because I think its display offers a slightly better image reproduction.

Specs & Software

Just like the displays, even the hardware departments are very similar. Each of these phones is powered by the midrange Snapdragon 660 chipset by Qualcomm which is able to offer more than sufficient performance in every scenario, including gaming. However, while Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and Xiaomi Mi A2 come with MIUI 10 out of the box (only the former is based on Android Pie), Xiaomi Mi A2 has the stock Android One which should provide a smoother user experience thanks to the absence of customizations. But Xiaomi Mi A2 is the only one that does not feature a micro SD slot to expand the internal storage. Also note that Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 does not have a variant with 128 GB of internal storage unlike Mi A2 and Mi 8 Lite.

Camera

When it comes to the camera there is no challenge: Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is the most impressive. It comes with the new 48 MP sensor by Samsung paired with a 5 MP depth sensor, and it can provide a stunning level of detail thanks to the incredibly high resolution. It is able to capture impressive photos even in low light conditions. The second place goes to Xiaomi Mi A2 which also offers a better front camera for selfies, equipped with a front-facing LED flash that is always useful to click photos in the dark. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has a less convincing rear camera setup but it is still sufficient for a midrange phone.

Battery

Due to its way bigger capacity (4000 mAh), Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 takes the title of best battery phone of the trio. It can easily last two days on a single charge if you do not stress it too much. Further, it features a faster-charging technology: Quick Charge 4.0, that is the latest standard by Qualcomm. The second place goes to Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite with its 3350 mAh battery supporting Quick Charge 3.0. Xiaomi Mi A2 is not so strong at battery life and it is just a sufficient device, but at least it is well-optimized.

Price

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 debuted in the Chinese market with a price tag of about $147/€128, while Xiaomi Mi A2 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite are already available in the global market. The Mi A2 is now set to swell the number of models that is rocking Android Pie already as Xiaomi has announced that the Android One phone will start receiving the update on December 18. Before now, a few Xiaomi Mi A2 users who are beta testers received the Android 9 Pie update on November 16 but the update will be without restriction.

This update will make the Mi A2 become Xiaomi’s first Android One model to receive the stable Android Pie update. The update is pretty fast compared to the pace the Mi A1 received Android Oreo update. The same fate might befall the A1 but we can’t say for sure. However, since Mi A2 Lite also got the Android Pie stable ROM delivered to select users 10 days after the A2, it simply means the global release of its own stable ROM to users isn’t too far behind. Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 a couple of months back with the device coming as a successor to last year’s Mi A1. Both models fall under Google’s Android One programme and that has made them quite attractive to Mi fans outside China. That is because not only are the devices running pure Android OS, they offer consistent user experience. However, for some users of the Xiaomi Mi A2, the experience has not been so friendly. There are reports of massive battery drain which is apparently caused by a bug.

The battery drain occurs because all the CPU cores run consistently pegged at max speeds, but what causes it isn’t known exactly. However, there is a consensus among most of those affected that the battery drain could be as a result of some bug that affects the fingerprint sensor. This may not be the cause as some users still report the problem persists despite removing all the stored fingerprints.

Some users have detected a quick fix and that is by rebooting the device every hour or two. This sure isn’t a permanent fix as the problem still surfaces after a couple of hours. Other suggested fixes like deleting Google Play Services and factory reset have also been unsuccessful in fixing the issue. Unfortunately, a fix might not be coming from Xiaomi anytime soon, though. The Mi developer team is yet to acknowledge this as a bug. That is perhaps because the issue doesn’t affect all Mi A2 users, including those who have multiple fingerprints stored on the device.

With recent improvements in battery size and charging speed, there have been isolated cases of battery explosions sometimes with casualties. Perhaps, the most prominent till date was the Galaxy Note 7 battery explosion which led to the discontinuation of the model. Xiaomi has had its own fair share of exploding phones in and outside China but they are isolated cases. The Mi A1 has joined the list of Xiaomi models that have gone up in flame. The ill-fated model was said to have gone up in flame while the owner slept at night.

According to the complainant who claimed the incident happened to his friend, the phone was left close to the owner while he slept. The unit went up in flames but thankfully, the owner wasn’t hurt because the device was in a protective shell. The protective casing was able to cushion the effect of the explosion. The phone was also not very close to the owner, perhaps on the nightstand. 

Although the location where it happened wasn’t disclosed, it couldn’t have been in China. The Mi A1 came running pure Android when it was launched last year and so wasn’t sold in China. The device was a success globally which prompted the launch of the Mi A2 and A2 Lite a couple of months back. This is the first reported case of an explosion of the model and shouldn’t be a cause for Mi A1 users to panic.

There are several reasons why a battery would explode, ranging from defective battery, bad charging adapter, charging pattern and others. We don’t have the details of the condition of the phone or how usage pattern of the owner. But the phone has reportedly been in use for 8 months and was left charging while he slept. From the story, this has been the routine practice. However, we can’t accurately say what caused it as only a thorough investigation can tell us that. According to the source, the incident has been reported to Xiaomi’s customer care but no response has been issued yet. It is best, though, that users use their phone in a safe manner and avoid keeping them close while sleeping. It may be appropriate to advise against leaving the phone to charge overnight. This isn’t the first incidence we have reported of a phone going up in flames while charging on the nightstand.

A few weeks ago, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi introduced two Android One smartphones at a global launch event in Spain — Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. Now, the company has officially brought the Mi A2 smartphone — the successor of the last year’s Mi A1, to India.

The phone will be exclusively available for purchase through Amazon India for Rs. 16,990, which roughly converts to $248. It’ll be available in four color options — Black, Gold, Lake Blue and Rose Gold. In India, the Mi A2 will be available for pre-order tomorrow on Amazon and Mi.com, while the shipments will being a week later, from 16th August.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with 2160 x 1080 pixels and 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor along with Adreno 512 GPU.

Xiaomi is expected to launch its latest Android One smartphone in India on August 8. The company had earlier released a poster teasing the launch and we could gather from the poster that the device will be sold exclusively on Amazon India. The Mi A2 pre-order page was reported to have gone live briefly ahead of the launch, revealing the price tag and confirming a few details.

One of the details which seem to have been confirmed is that the 4GB RAM + 32GB storage variant won’t be available in India. The Amazon product page shows that the Mi A2 will be available for Rs. 17,499 (~$255). The model is only listed as having 64GB storage with no mention of the RAM size. The price tag easily suggests that this can’t be the 6GB + 128GB variant which is the third variant. For avoidance of doubt, the Mi A2 is available only in 4GB + 32GB, 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB variants.

The price tag is way lower than the 279 euros (~$326) RRP with which the device was launched in Spain. Perhaps, the India version is manufactured in India, thus reducing tax and other importation costs. We’ll have to wait until it is officially launched to know if the price is actually accurate. The Mi A2 Amazon India pre-order page has been removed, replaced with a “Notify me” page about the launch which will take place at 4 pm IST (GMT +5:30).

Earlier this week, Xiaomi launched its two new Android One smartphones — Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite, which are the successor to the last year’s Mi A1. The company has also revealed the launch date for the smartphones in the Indian market — 8th August.

The Mi A2 comes in three variants — 4GB RAM and 32GB storage, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. Now, according to the latest report, the China-based company won’t bring the 4GB RAM and 32GB storage model to India.

The report reveals that the Xiaomi Mi A2’s availability in India will start with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage and another variant will pack 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Further, the Indian variant will also see the addition of fourth color option — Rose Gold, along with Gold, Black, and Blue colors.

While the device was announced with Qualcomm‘s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology, the same technology that’s in the last year’s Mi A1, the Indian version of the Mi A2 will come with Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect, tucked under a layer 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE processor and Adreno 512 graphics processor.

The dual camera setup on the back includes a 20-megapixel Sony IM376 primary sensor with f/1.75 aperture and 2-micron 4-in-1 Super Pixel and a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 secondary sensor with 1.25-micron pixel and f/1.75 aperture. On the front side, there’s a 20-megapixel AI-powered selfie snapper.

Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and 3.5mm headphone jack. There’s also a fingerprint sensor placed on the back panel. Being a part of Google’s Android One program, the smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

Xiaomi‘s latest Android One phone, the Mi A2 will hit India on August 8. Ahead of that launch, some more details of the device have emerged which points to a slight variation from the model announced in Spain a few days back. According to Android Central, the Mi A2 will have support for Quick Charge 4.0 exclusively in India. The device was announced with Quick Charge 3.0 which is the same fast charge technology available on last year’s Mi A1.

The reason for this exclusiveness was not disclosed but the device will still ship packing a regular 5V/2A charger and not a QC4.0 charger. Buyers who would like to take advantage of this feature will need to shop for a third-party wall charger with QC3.0/4.0 support. It should be noted, though, that there are few wall chargers with such specifications in the market.

While in the Americas, only Colombia and Mexico will get the models. Last week, Xiaomi sent out media invites for the global launch event that the company scheduled on 24th July in Madrid, Spain. Yesterday, Xiaomi teased the launch of Mi A2 smartphone that is the successor of Mi A1.

Now, Xiaomi has confirmed that the company will be launching two Android One smartphones at Spain launch event. While the company has not revealed the name, the two smartphones in question are the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. Teasing these two devices, Xiaomi tweeted “We are giving you ALL not 1 but 2 smartphones on July 24th! Any guesses?”

Ahead of the official launch on 24th July, the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite has already been listed on AliExpress and is available for purchase at $190 for 3GB RAM model and $210 for the 4GB RAM variant.

According to the previous leaks, the Mi A2 is expected to feature a 5.99-inch full-screen display with Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 processor and is expected to come in multiple variants based on the memory configuaration, including 4GB RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, 4GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage.

The device also comes with a dual camera setup on the back, boasting a 12MP + 20MP sensors. On the front side, reports indicate that it will feature a 20MP snapper. The Mi A2 lacks the 3.5mm headphone jack and will be fuelled by a a 3,010mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support.

Xiaomi has scheduled a global launch event on 24th July in Madrid, Spain where the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is expected to launch Mi A2 smartphone, which is the successor of the Mi A1 that was launched last year.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 was the first Android One smartphone from the company and the first to not feature its own MIUI custom interface. The device was first introduced in India and was the rebranded version of the Mi 5X that was launched in India.

Similarly, the Xiaomi Mi A2 is also said to be the rebranded version of the Redmi 6 Pro smartphone that was launched in China earlier this year. The specifications of the Mi A2 and as well as the Mi A2 Lite have already been leaked online.

Another Polish e-commerce listed the upcoming Xiaomi Mi A2 and published detailed renders and specs of the handset ahead of the official launch set for July 24. The new renders show the device from every angle and they highlight a design identical to the one of the newly-announced Mi 6X. Indeed, just like its predecessor, the Mi A2 will be a variant of the Mi 6X for the global market, but it will differ from this device because it will have Android One installed instead of the MIUI.

And that is what the renders are showing: a clean and stock Android user interface. From the renders, we can see Xiaomi Mi A2 in the Black color variant with a full metal unibody design and U-shaped antenna bands. The display is tall but it has no notch and it has an 18:9 aspect ratio. On the rear side, there is a dual camera in a vertical configuration with a flash LED in the middle, and at the center of the backplate, there is a circular fingerprint reader.

According to the published specs, Xiaomi Mi A2 will boast a 5.99-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution, 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The dual camera will have a 12 + 20 MP configuration, while the SoC will be the octa-core Snapdragon 660 and the battery will have a 3000 mAh capacity. Xiaomi Mi A2 will be officially announced on July 24 and it will be a variant of the Mi 6X with Android One instead of MIUI. Given the huge success achieved by the Mi A1 last year, Xiaomi is also launching a Lite variant of the device which will be offered at a more affordable price. That lite variant or the Mi A2 Lite as it is officially known has appeared on a Polish retail site.

This isn’t the first time the Mi A2 Lite has surfaced online. About a month ago, it got certified in Singapore. The model number on the certification document is nearly identical to that of a Xiaomi phone on TENAA with a notch that hadn’t launched as at then. That phone later launched as the Redmi 6 Pro. Looking at the device on the Polish store, one can see it is the same as the Redmi 6 Pro.

In terms of processing power, the Mi A2 Lite won’t be different from the Mi A1 since they both have a Snapdragon 625 processor. However, the Mi A2 Lite comes with a modern design (read full-screen display with a notch) and packs a bigger battery.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite will come with a 5.84-inch Full HD+ (2280 x 1080) screen. It will have a full metal unibody design with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage under the hood. It will also have expandable storage.

There are dual cameras on the rear – a 12MP sensor paired with a 5 MP secondary sensor. It also has a 5MP front-facing camera. Note that the standard Mi 6X has a 12MP and 20 MP dual camera setup with a f/1.8 aperture, so the Mi A2 Lite won’t be able to match the Mi A2’s camera performance.

However, the Mi A2 Lite trumps the Mi A2 in one category and that is battery capacity. The phone packs a 4000 mAh battery which is significantly more than the Mi A2’s 3,000 mAh battery. Let’s also not forget that unlike the Mi 6X (Mi A2), the Redmi 6 Pro has a 3.5mm audio jack.

The device has been listed in black only, even though the Redmi 6 Pro it is based on also comes in red, blue, rose gold, and gold. There is a chance it may launch in more colors. It carries a price tag of PLN 1049, which roughly translates into $283, a little more than the launch price of the Mi A1.

This aspect might see some changes considering the Redmi Note 5 camera configuration is different from that of India’s Redmi Note 5 Pro. However, the Mi A2 will have a 5.99-inch display, 3101mAh battery and should be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. After passing through Singapore’s Communications Authority, Xiaomi‘s upcoming mid-range smartphone Mi A2 has now passed through NCC Certification in Taiwan, hinting at the phone’s imminent launch.

While the certification doesn’t mention the name Mi A2, it lists a model number M1804D2SG which is similar to the Mi A2’s Chinese variant Mi 6X. The certification doesn’t reveal the phone’s specs but it complies with Taiwan’s carrier standards.

With the smartphone passing through various certifications, it seems that the launch of the Mi A2 is not far away. In fact, Xiaomi has started teasing a global launch event where the company is expected to launch the Mi A2 smartphone globally. However, the company has not revealed date for this launch event.

In the software department, instead of the company’s own MIUI, the Mi A2 will be running on the stock Android Oreo operating system given that it is a part of Google‘s Android One initiative. Its predecessor, Mi A1 was also a part of Android One and came with stock Android OS.

The specifications of the smartphone are expected to be same as the Mi 6X. It is expected to feature a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display that supports FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor along with 4GB RAM and 32GB / 64GB internal storage. Some reports indicate that there’ll be another variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its new smartphone — Xiaomi Mi 6X, which is the successor of Mi 5X. The international variant of the same could be named Mi A2 — the successor of the Mi A1 Android One smartphone. The phone has been subject to several leaks, including specs, renders, etc.

While we recently reported that the Mi 6X could be powered by MediaTek’s new Helio P60 chipset, a new report claims that the phone will not be powered by the Helio P60 processor.

Recently, the Mi 6X appeared in a TENAA listing, which revealed that the phone will be powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core processor. Our guess is that it will pack the Snapdragon 630 or Snapdragon 660 as they are both clocked at 2.2GHz.

Further, the listing reveals that the phone will come in two variants based on the memory configuration — 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage. While the leaked images related to the smartphone suggests dual camera setup at the back, the TENAA listing only lists one 20MP camera sensor on the back. On the front side, it is expected to feature a 20MP snapper.

Recently, Mishaal Rahman of XDA-Developers suggested that on the back side, the primary sensor will be Sony IMX486 while the secondary camera sensor will be Sony IMX376. On the front side, the company is expected to have the same Sony IMX376 lens.

The smartphone will flaunt a 5.99-inch display with 2160 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. It will have a full-screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio and thankfully without a notch on the top of the display, which seems to be the trend nowadays.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X is expected to be running Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box, with the company’s own MIUI on top. However, the international model of the same, which could be called Mi A2, will run stock Android Oreo as Xiaomi’s A-series is a part of Google‘s Android One program.

The device will come with a dual camera setup at the back, just like its predecessor. The Mi A2 will feature a 20-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor with f/1.8 aperture at the back, along with an LED flash.

The camera is expected to support phase detection autofocus (PDAF) as well as Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS). On the front side, the phone will come with a 20-megapixel camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture for taking selfies and video calling.

As of the software, the smartphone will be running the stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box. Also, just like its predecessor, the Mi A2 will be a part of Google’s Android One program. The smartphone is said to be powered by 2,910mAh battery, which is smaller in capacity compared to the Mi A1.

The new leak regarding the phone’s specifications is in line with the TENAA listing of the Xiaomi Mi 6X. The listing also suggested a 5.99-inch display and 2,910mAh battery. The certification database also revealed that the smartphone could measure 158.88 × 75.54 × 7.3 mm. And, the design of the smartphone is said to be similar to that of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Currently, there’s no information available regarding the phone’s launch, pricing or availability. However, we expected the Mi A2 to get launched sometime around July given that the Mi A1 was launched in July last year.
