Claude 3 is the Newest AI Chatbot Competitor, Claims to Surpass ChatGPT & Google’s Gemini

A new challenger has emerged to shake up the landscape of AI and chatbots. Anthropic, an AI startup, has unveiled its “Claude 3” family, a trio of large language models (LLMs) claiming to surpass Google’s Gemini and OpenAI‘s ChatGPT in various benchmarks.

Claude 3 has three different variations: Haiku, Sonnet and Opus

Claude 3 comes in three distinct flavors: Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus, each offering varying levels of capability. Anthropic boasts that the entire family delivers exceptional performance across multiple dimensions – multimodality (handling different data types), improved accuracy, enhanced context understanding, and faster response times. Additionally, the new models exhibit a greater willingness to tackle challenging questions, addressing a limitation found in earlier Claude versions that sometimes shied away from prompts deemed risky.

Claude 3

While all three models offer a significant performance boost, Opus takes center stage as the most potent member of the family. Anthropic claims it demonstrates “near-human levels of comprehension” for complex tasks, further showcasing its capabilities through a “Needle in a Haystack” evaluation, where it excelled at recalling information with near-perfect accuracy. Opus is also touted as a problem-solving whiz, adept at handling math challenges, generating computer code, and exhibiting superior reasoning abilities compared to GPT-4.

However, no technology is perfect, and Claude 3 is no exception. While Anthropic emphasizes improved accuracy, the issue of “hallucinations” – factually incorrect information generated by the models – persists, albeit at a significantly reduced rate compared to previous iterations. Additionally, Opus encounters some lag in responding to queries, exhibiting speeds comparable to the earlier Claude 2 model.

Despite these limitations, Haiku and Sonnet each have their own strengths. Haiku shines in delivering quick responses and extracting information from unstructured data, although it might stumble when faced with complex math problems. Sonnet, a larger-scale model, aims to assist users with mundane tasks, even parsing text from images. Opus, on the other hand, is ideally suited for handling large-scale operations.

Currently, Sonnet and Opus are available for purchase, while a free version of Claude remains accessible on Anthropic’s website. Haiku’s launch date is still under wraps, but the company assures a soon-to-come release. The primary target audience for Claude 3 appears to be businesses seeking to automate specific workflows. Users will likely encounter these models integrated into online chatbots.

Huawei P70 Case Leak Points Towards a Unique Camera Layout

New details about the upcoming Huawei P70 series have surfaced thanks to leaked information and third-party mobile phone cases. Here’s what we know so far. Leaked cases showcase a distinctive camera design for the P70 series, likely featuring a prominent “camera Deco” layout. This design is a significant departure from the “island lens module” seen on the P60 series.

The camera will likely feature either the OV50H or IMX989 sensor

The P70 series is expected to be powered by the Kirin 9xxx chipset, with potential variations in chip frequency between standard and higher-end models. This is likely an upgrade from the Kirin 9000S found in the Mate60 series. The series is rumored to offer two display options: a 6.58-inch or 6.8-inch 2.5D 1.5K LTPO panel with an “equal-depth four-micro-curve design” for a smoother visual experience.

Huawei P70

The camera system is a highlight, potentially featuring either the OV50H or IMX989 sensor with a physical variable aperture, alongside a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 50MP 4x periscope telephoto lens. Leaks suggest the P70 series may introduce new satellite communication technology, further expanding its functionalities, and boast a fresh design language distinct from previous Huawei phone models. While no official confirmation exists, previous reports hinted at a late March release for the P70 series. Pricing details remain unknown, but the Huawei P60 Art, released last year, serves as a reference point with a starting price of 8,988 yuan (around $1,340).

It’s important to remember that these details are based on leaks and rumors. Official confirmation from Huawei regarding specifications, features, and pricing is still awaited.

Lenovo Launches Refurbished Products Program to Offer Budget-Friendly Refurbished Tech

Lenovo continues to expand its product family and thereby increase its market share in various markets. In line with this, the company recently announced the Legion Tab for the global market and introduced new ThinkBook 14 models for sale in China. However, when you are already one of the world’s largest computer manufacturers, producing new products is not enough. You must appeal to as broad a user base as possible and generate more revenue. Recognizing this situation, Lenovo will now offer refurbished laptops and even servers to help reduce hardware costs. Here ae the details…

Lenovo Launches Refurbished Products Program for Cost Savings

Lenovo has announced a new program called “Certified Refurbished Products,” aiming to bring affordable technologies to consumers. This program will focus on the sale of refurbished computers and other hardware. The company’s goal is to reach new user demographics while simultaneously addressing the issue of electronic waste. Although this is a global and comprehensive project, it will not immediately launch everywhere. Denmark, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong will serve as pilot regions for the project.

Unfortunately, the details of the company’s significant project are not yet known. Speaking from my personal experience as someone who has used a second-hand Thinkpad laptop from Lenovo, it is possible to say that the company’s project will be beneficial for consumers. Many companies regularly upgrade their office computers, resulting in millions of perfectly functional computers either being discarded each year or falling into the hands of opportunistic sellers who charge much more than their value.

Lenovo, on the other hand, can collect these computers and other hardware equipment, perform maintenance on them, and offer them to consumers at affordable prices. This way, not only can electronic waste be reduced, but consumers can also have access to affordable yet clean products. The company emphasizes that devices sold through its new refurbished store will undergo comprehensive data cleansing, ensuring that crucial components like storage and memory can be completely wiped, and thorough maintenance will be carried out.

Honor Choice Watch review: A fitness-focused smartwatch with extensive features

Honor Choice Watch is the latest smartwatch from Honor to launch in India. It was announced along with the Honor X9b and Choice Earbuds X5 TWS last month. The smartwatch offers a massive display, a long battery life, and a lot of workout features. Here is a comprehensive review of what the Choice Watch offers.

Honor Choice Watch review: What’s in the box?

Honor Choice Watch
Honor Choice Watch

The retail package of the Honor Choice Watch includes:

  • Honor Choice Watch
  • Magnetic charging cable
  • Quick start guide

Display and Build

One of the major attractions of the Honor Choice Watch is its large 1.95-inch AMOLED display that offers 410 x 502 pixels, a 60Hz refresh rate, a 332 PPI pixel density, and up to 550 nits of brightness. The screen is very bright and clear for outdoor usage. One gripe is that it does not automatically adjust the brightness depending on the environment. However, it does come with support for Always-on Display functionality. In addition, it gives access to multiple watch faces. The bezels are slim, and the company claims a 75 percent screen-to-body ratio.

In terms of design, the 2.5D micro-curved glass of the Choice Watch adds to its sleek aesthetics. The smartwatch features a metallic-textured body with stainless-steel buttons. It has a thickness of 10.2mm and weighs only 45 grams.

Honor Choice Watch

The white silicone strap feels skin-friendly and can be worn for longer durations without any skin irritation, at least for me. In addition, with a 5ATM water resistance level, the Choice Watch is suitable for swimming and surfing.

Watch UI and Voice Calling

The crown on the right edge of the Honor Choice Watch provides access to all the apps available on the watch. A swipe-up on the home screen shows all notifications. Note that there is no option to respond to notifications. A swipe downwards gives access to the Quick Settings menu. Swiping right shows widgets for Activity Record, Heart rate, SpO2, Stress, Sleep, and more. Swiping left of the home screen allows users to access frequently used or desired apps.

Here’s a list of all the apps available through the crown: Exercise (with workout modes), Exercise record, Activity record, Heart rate, SpO2, Sleep, Stress, One-tap measurements, Contacts (favorite contacts), Call history, Weather, Breathing exercise, Music control, Water intake, Alarm, Stopwatch, Timer, Calculator, Voice memo, Compass, Flashlight, Find Phone, and Settings.

Some additional features, such as Vibration Drainage, Silent / Ring mode, and Brightness adjustment are available via Quick Toggle. The SOS functionality is activated through the Settings. Once enabled, users can triple-tap to perform an emergency call to a pre-registered contact.

At the time of writing, my Choice Watch has already received the 8.0.9.17 firmware update. The well-designed UI, coupled with the 60Hz refresh rate, offers a snappy user experience.

The other standout feature is the Honor Health companion app, which needs to be installed on a paired phone. The Health tab on the app provides a lot of statistical data about steps, calories, activity, hours active, sleep, heart health, and more. The Exercise tab offers 120 workout modes and customizable exercise options. The Device tab allows users to link a phone to the Honor Watch or any other Honor fitness tracker/watch, view online and customizable watch faces, and access other options such as battery status, setting frequent contacts, and notifications.

Honor Choice Watch - Bluetooth voice calling
Honor Choice Watch – Bluetooth voice calling

The smartwatch supports Bluetooth (5.3) calling through a paired smartphone. When there is an incoming call, the watch allows users to answer, reject or respond via quick SMS replies. The call quality is decent for indoor environments. When making calls, the watch does not provide a Dialler app. Instead, users can make calls from contacts available in the Call History or from the Favourite Contacts app on the watch. The built-in Voice Memo app works well, and the recorded audio files are quite audible.

Health Monitoring and Battery Life

Honor Choice Watch

The Choice Watch offers comprehensive health monitoring features, including SpO2 monitoring, heart rate monitoring, stress monitoring, and sleep quality monitoring. HARMAN cracks down on JBL product counterfeiters in India

HARMAN, the manufacturer of the super-popular JBL audio brand, has launched a campaign targeting counterfeiters of JBL products in India. The Samsung Electronics subsidiary said it had initiated legal actions against manufacturers, distributors, dealers, and retailers involved in selling or making fake JBL products.

HARMAN recently conducted a raid in collaboration with law enforcement and its investigation team confiscated 54 counterfeit JBL car speakers from car accessories shops across five locations in Kashmiri Gate, New Delhi.

The company says that it is committed to delivering premium and high-quality products in India. HARMAN reaffirmed its determination to address any threats to its products caused by unlawful sales with firm and immediate action.

The popularity of JBL products makes the brand a hotbed for counterfeiters

Harman has also highlighted some tips on identifying fake JBL products in the subcontinent. It advises customers to be wary of overtly cheap JBL products with compromised quality. It also points out inconsistent cosmetic details as an indicator of a fake product, compared to a genuine JBL gadget. The packaging and genuine JBL logo are also another way of identifying counterfeit products. Genuine JBL products have high-quality packaging with accurate logo placement and color, according to the company.

Furthermore, counterfeit JBL products may feel lightweight, have a chemical odor, or show signs of poor quality, overall. The reputation of the seller can also guide consumers in avoiding counterfeit JBL products.

Vikram Kher, Vice President of Lifestyle at HARMAN India, stated that the company is pursuing rigorous legal actions against individuals engaged in the sale of these counterfeit products. He also said that it is crucial for JBL customers to remain vigilant and purchase products only from authorized retailers.

The investigation is ongoing and will be a regular activity to curb the sale of such products across India. There are no indications yet on the arrests made but the problem of counterfeiting may be widespread in India.
