ASUS Zenfone has been a compact flagship in the market. The Taiwanese brand is reportedly working on the next-generation Zenfone devices. These are allegedly called the Zenfone 11 and Zenfone 11 Ultra. The later has been spotted on the Bluetooth SIG and SDPPI certification websites. Now, the Zenfone 11 Ultra has surfaced in leaked renders and specifications.

A Reddit user spotted images of the Zenfone 11 Ultra in the latest firmware on the ROG Phone 8. The leaked renders and specifications suggest that the device could be a rebranded version of the ROG Phone 8 but with a few changes. If this indeed turns out to be true, the Taiwanese brand would be moving away from the compact flagship tag unless there’s a standard Zenfone 11 variant. 

The leaked images reveal the Zenfone 11 Ultra with the same design as the ROG Phone 8. It has a flat frame and a protruding camera module in Black color. The back panel also features some diagonal lines and the device is seen in Skyline Blue, Verdue Green, Dessert Sienna, Eternal Black, and Misty Grey color options. Of course, there is no ROG branding on the phone. The leaked image of the retail box does confirm the ASUS Zenfone 11 Ultra moniker. 

The Reddit user has also shared spec sheet of the Zenfone 11 Ultra. It will feature a 6.78-inch Samsung AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels along with a 144Hz LTPO refresh rate. The refresh rate is lower than 165Hz found on the ROG Phone 8 series. On the optics front, the smartphone is tipped to sport a 50MP Gimbal OIS sensor coupled with a 13MP ultra-wide and 32MP telephoto lens. 

Under the hood, the spec sheet mentions that the Zenfone 11 Ultra will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. It will be backed by a 5,500mAh battery unit with support for 65W wired and 15W wireless charging.

Digital Chat Station reports that Oneplus is internally testing Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Prototype products and that the brand will switch to a different design language.

That’s because the prototype Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 device being tested is rumored to be missing the stainless steel hinge and circular Deco design in the top left corner. We don’t know how true this is. Of course, Oneplus could make some changes to the new Oneplus 13. We will see in the future whether the information is true or not.

Although the Geekbench 6 results leaked a few weeks ago indicate a perfect year for the Android side, it will take time before we know everything. Other manufacturers like Xiaomi are also testing Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 smartphones. If the information is correct, users should look forward to new Android phones. Samsung to improve Galaxy S24 cameras with future update

Samsung‘s latest flagship, the Galaxy S24 series, brings a range of improvements in both hardware and software. However, users have encountered a few minor issues with the camera and are expecting an update to address this issue. 

Fortunately, Samsung has officially acknowledged the concern and these issues will likely be solved via the upcoming software updates.

Concerns regarding the camera quality were initially raised by a user in Samsung’s official forum. In response, a moderator revealed that Samsung is actively working on optimizing the camera of Galaxy S24 based on valuable user feedback collected from various sources.

They revealed they are working on improving color accuracy and refining the “3D effect” when compared to previous Galaxy S models. 

While user feedback indicates an overall improvement in the S24 cameras compared to the S23, there are still some reported issues. 

This includes noise and banding in low-light skies, slight overexposure in daylight, and limited dynamic range around specific light sources in low-light conditions (via SamMobile). Some users have also noted detail loss in certain textures. So these issues should also be addressed in the upcoming camera update.

However, Samsung did not provide a specific timeframe for these camera-fixing updates, they’ll likely be included in the first few software releases.

In related Samsung news, the company has confirmed that the upcoming software update will also solve another Galaxy S24 series issue where users are complaining that their screen is not bright enough and the colors don’t appear as they should. Again, there is no specified timeframe for the update rollout, but we expect it will happen soon as part of an upcoming software update.

HMD sent out an official media invite (via) for the upcoming event. It is set to take place on February 25, Sunday at 12:30 pm CET at MWC Barcelona. The invite poster says that ‘Something new is coming’. HMD is also promising to shed light on the company’s fascinating new future. Previously, HMD had also confirmed that they will reveal details about several new license agreements and significant brand collaborations. The company is widely expected to launch new smartphones under its brand. 

HMD aims to make phones that are durable, fun, fast, secure, and affordable. Leaked promotional images of the company’s first phone reveal it in colorful options. Additionally, it also confirmed a 108MP primary camera with OIS support. The design gives us Nokia Lumia vibes. As per Evan Blass, six phones are tipped to be in the pipeline codenamed Pulse, Legend, Pulse+, Legend Plus, Pulse Pro, and Legend Pro.

As per a recent report, nine HMD phones also surfaced on the IMEI database confirming their existence but not revealing any key details. We should learn more information about HMD phones in the coming weeks leading up to the MWC event.

As per the landing page on Amazon India, the Lunar Link smartwatch will feature a 1.4″ round HD display with a brightness of 500 nits. It is also equipped with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

One of the key features of the Lunar Link is its support for Bluetooth calling, which is complemented by a dial pad, built-in microphone, and speaker. For fitness enthusiasts, the smartwatch offers more than 100 sports modes, catering to a wide range of physical activities.

Just last month, Amazfit teased the launch of a new smartwatch model in the Indian market. The wearable in question is dubbed the Amazfit Active, which is a smartwatch that appears quite similar to the Apple Watch in design. While the earlier teaser didn’t reveal finer details regarding the smartwatch, the latest announcement has confirmed its official launch date.

The company has officially revealed that the Amazfit Active smartwatch will be announced on 10th February 2024. The Indian release follows after the global market launch alongside the Amazfit Active Edge. This model is set to launch with the AI powered Zepp Coach that provides personalized fitness advice. This integrates advanced technology with everyday health and fitness activities.

The smartwatch features a sleek design, weighing just 24 grams without the strap. It sports a 1.75-inch AMOLED display that offers 450 x 390 pixel resolution. It has a curved glass panel with a 73 percent screen-to-body ratio. For protection, it comes with 5ATM water resistance as well. Another notable aspect is the Readiness Score which brings a health metric that takes your physical and mental readiness into account every morning.

The Amazfit Active smartwatch will offer up to 14 days of battery life on a single full charge, as per official notes. Although, continued use of the GNSS location feature will reduce the battery life down to around 16 hours. The pricing details are still at large, but Amazon availability has been confirmed in India. Notably, William’s presence will begin with the flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

William confirmed his role in another tweet and expressed his excitement regarding the Xiaomi 14 Ultra launch. In other words, the next gen flagship’s release is right around the corner. Meanwhile, a GeekBench sighting revealed its synthetic benchmark scores as well as some key specs. It is expected to be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC that is paired with up to 16GB of RAM.

Vivo‘s upcoming tablet, the Pad 3, has received 3C certification in China, hinting at its imminent launch. It is listed on the certification platform with the model number PA2473.

According to the certification listing, the tablet will support fast charging at 66W. However, it does not mention any cellular connectivity support, a feature typically included in 3C certification. So its absence suggests that the tablet might be available exclusively in a WiFi-only variant.

Currently, there is very limited information floating about the Vivo Pad 3. Early reports suggest that the tablet will feature a 13-inch LCD display with a 3K resolution. Likewise, it might be equipped with a Dimensity 9300 processor, making it a flagship offering. However, other specifications remain under wraps for now.

Notably, the Pad 3 isn’t the only tablet Vivo is rumored to be working on. There are speculations about the launch of a new tablet under its iQOO sub-brand. The device, possibly iQOO Pad Air, has also recently received 3C certification with 44W charging support.

The Vivo Pad 3 is expected to make its debut in China in March, alongside a bunch of other Vivo products.

There are rumors that Vivo will unveil the Vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro, and Vivo X100s smartphones alongside the Vivo Pad 3. To note, the X Fold 3 has already received approval from China’s radio certification platform.

iQOO is working on a new Z series smartphone model, which is dubbed the iQOO Z9. We recently covered some reports regarding this device, and now, a known tipster has revealed the display specifications of the Z9 5G. So let’s have a look.

The news arrives from Digital Chat Station, who shared the information on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website). Looking at the online post, the company will reportedly have the iQOO Z9 sport an OLED display panel that offers 1.5K resolution. Just last week, the iQOO Z9 5G was spotted on the Bluetooth SIG certification, carrying the I2302 model number.

This listing also confirmed support for Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. The certification sighting hints at the device’s launch being imminent. Another report from late January 2024 also revealed the chipset details of the iQOO Z9. The Chinese edition of the iQOO Z9 is expected to be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensityu 8300 SoC. To recall, the upcoming smartphone is the direct successor to the iQOO Z8, which launched back in September 2023 with the Dimensity 8200 chip.

The Z8 was powered by a larger 5,000mAh battery pack, but it appears that the Z9 could offer a higher capacity. We can expect improvements across other aspects of the Z9 as well. The Z8 offered 120W fast charging, which would likely make a reappearance in the next gen model. The rear packs a 64-megapixel dual camera setup that might get an upgrade in the Z9. Keep in mind that this is still just speculation at this point so take this news with a pinch of salt for now.

Xiaomi has expanded its Redmi product lineup with the introduction of the Redmi Buds 5 series, comprising the Redmi Buds 5 and Redmi Buds 5 Pro. Now, the Redmi Buds 5 seems to be making its debut in India on February 12. The company confirmed the upcoming launch in India via the official Instagram and X.com handles.

Redmi officially shared a poster with a glimpse of the upcoming Superbuds. In the country, Redmi currently sells Redmi Buds 4 Active and Redmi Buds Lite. Even the new Redmi 5 Buds are going to follow a similar design language as the Buds 4 Active.

These earbuds are already making waves globally, offering users a diverse range of features and pricing options to suit their preferences. Let’s see what Buds 5 pack:

Redmi Buds 5 elevate the audio experience with up to 46 dB of active noise cancellation (ANC). It offers users three ANC modes, an AI adaptive mode, and three transparency modes to suit diverse preferences. These earbuds provide up to 10 hours of continuous listening per earbud, and the accompanying charging case extends usage to an impressive 40 hours. In terms of connectivity, it offers Bluetooth 5.3 Low Energy, Google Fast Pair, and convenient touch controls. Additionally, the Buds 5 carry an IP54 dust- and water-resistant rating, enhancing their durability.

There’s also a Pro version, but we are not sure whether the company will launch it in Indian markets or not. Both have certain changes, like the Redmi Buds 5 Pro features an LHDC 5.0 codec, while the Buds 5 doesn’t support it. The Buds 5 is equipped with two microphones, whereas the Buds 5 Pro has three microphones. However, both the Redmi Buds 5 and Redmi Buds 5 Pro support customization and updates via the Xiaomi Earbuds app.

As the Redmi Buds 5 are already available, they are retailing in black, white, and sky blue colors for the price of $46. These are also available in China since November 2023.

Vivo and Nokia have today announced a multi-year patent cross-licensing agreement, ending a legal battle over 5G technology. This comes just weeks after Nokia settled a similar dispute with another BBK Electronics brand, Oppo.

Under the terms, Vivo will gain access to Nokia’s foundational cellular technology patents but will make ongoing payments to Nokia for their use.

Notably, these payments will also include “catch-up” fees which will cover the period of the dispute. The good thing is that the agreement now settles all outstanding legal matters between the two companies.

For those unaware, Nokia raised a legal conflict claiming that brands under the BBK Electronics portfolio, such as Vivo and Oppo, were infringing on 5G wireless communication technology patents. This eventually led to a lawsuit and subsequent defeat of these smartphone brands in court.

Following the court ruling, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, and Realme had to withdraw from the German market. However, the recent 5G patent deal of Oppo and Vivo with Nokia opens a way for BBK brands to re-enter the German market. In fact, OnePlus has already begun selling its latest OnePlus 12 and 12R in the country.

“We are delighted to have reached an agreement with vivo which reflects mutual respect for each other’s intellectual property rights,” said Jenni Lukander, President of Nokia Technologies. “We look forward to bringing more innovation to their users around the world through our collaboration.”

Vivo’s General Manager Xianwen Xu also expressed its satisfaction with the agreement, highlighting its commitment to R&D and providing users with hi-tech products.

The deal, most importantly, paves the way for Vivo’s return to Germany, a key market for the company. Also, to note, this is Nokia’s 6th major smartphone licensing agreement in the past 13 months. The company has already signed deals with Apple, Samsung, OPPO, Honor, and Huawei.

OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 8T receiving OxygenOS 14.0.0.402 and OxygenOS 14.0.0.300 updates, respectively

OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePluu 8T are receiving a new firmware update bringing some new improvements and fixes along with the January 2024 Android Security patch. OxygenOS 14.0.0.300 for the OnePlus 8T and OxygenOS 14.0.0.402 for the OnePlus 10 Pro are now available for the Indian variant. The update is currently seeding and may reach each unit over the coming few days. Below are the details for each update on the respective smartphone:

OnePlus 8T is bringing the latest security patch, along with system stability and performance improvements. It even enhances the battery life and fixes the fingerprint icon that keeps showing even after unlocking the smartphone. Further, the background stream feature in the Smart Sidebar is now removed. It even adds some stability fixes for the smartphone camera.

OnePlus 10 Pro Update Details

On the other hand, the OnePlus 10 Pro is also receiving the latest security patch via Oxygen OS 14.0.0.402. It adds an auto-brightness button in Quick Settings and improves the system’s stability and performance. OnePlus 10 Pro fixes certain issues, like the inability to switch between apps, and the flicker issue is gone, which was quite annoying when you tapped the ongoing call bubble in the status bar. Even the Smart Sidebar issue of getting inadvertently stopped is fixed.

Both the updates to the respective devices are rolling out in a staggered way. It may take a few days for the update to reach each unit. Users can also check for updates by heading to the device Settings > About Device > Software Update > Download Now. In case of bugs or issues, users can always submit them by heading to the OnePlus Community or by dialing *#800# on Google Dialer.

Additionally,  OnePlus is already seeding OxygenOS 14 for its compatible smartphones, including the OnePlus 11 Series, OnePlus 10 Pro, OnePlus 10R, OnePlus Nord 3, and OnePlus Pad. We expect the remaining smartphones to receive the ColorOS 14 update soon.

MediaTek is reportedly looking to challenge Qualcomm by offering Samsung a discounted deal on its chips for use in budget-friendly phones. 

While it’s unlikely that Samsung will opt for the Dimensity 9400 in its premium Galaxy S series due to an existing agreement with Qualcomm, a new rumor now suggests that the Korean tech giant might consider using MediaTek chips in its more affordable smartphones.

Words for it come from reliable tipster Revegnus who wrote on X/Twitter that MediaTek has offered special pricing for its processors exclusively for Samsung. 

These processors are said to be used in Samsung’s budget smartphone lineup, likely in the entry-level models of the A, M, and F-series. However, mid-range smartphones in the A and M-series might still use Exynos processors, as recent sightings on benchmarking sites indicate the use of Exynos chips in upcoming A and M-series smartphones.

Currently, Qualcomm holds a strong position in the high-end smartphone market. But MediaTek has established a dominance in the budget segment.

Now if MediaTek manages to convince Samsung to use its processors for budget phones, Qualcomm will face a formidable challenge in outperforming MediaTek in this particular market. 

Moreover, a partnership with Samsung would not only increase MediaTek’s market share but would also open new doors for future collaborations with Samsung.

But do note that this is just a rumor, and Samsung has not confirmed any plans to use MediaTek chips in its smartphones. We will be sure to keep you informed with new updates on this matter if there are any new developments.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have covered various rumors and reports regarding a new budget smartphone from Nothing. The model in question is the Nothing Phone (2a), which is expected to be announced soon. Now, the Indian availability has just been confirmed via an e-commerce listing.

Nothing Phone (2a) Surfaces on Flipkart

So far, Nothing has annually released its top end models with the latest entry being the Phone (2). Now, a budget smartphone is set to launch soon carrying the Phone (2a) moniker. The device is expected to be unveiled at the MWC 2024 event (Mobile World Congress), which is set to kick off later this month. But ahead of any official announcement, the handset has surfaced on Flipkart, with its microsite already being live.

Heading to the Flipkart page, we can see a short video teaser for the upcoming Nothing Phone (2a). Earlier today (5th February 2024), live images of the smartphone were spotted, which offered us a look at the front and rear design. Another report that suggested the imminent launch of the device was a recent wallpaper leak. Just recently, the Nothing Phone (2a) received the TUV certification. This listing confirmed its 45W wired fast charging rate.

Based on what we know so far, the Phone (2a) could sport a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It may be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC along with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. At the end of December, Coolpad launched a budget 5G smartphone in China. The device officially goes by Coolpad Grand View Y60.

A little over a month later, a variant of this handset called Coolpad Grand View Y60s has now been listed in China Telecom’s product library with specifications and images.

As per the listing, this device will arrive with toned-down features.

The upcoming Coolpad Grand View Y60s has model number CP3CT1. It will be powered by the same Unisoc T760 chip as the regular Y60 and will boot Android 13.

However, the newer model will come with a smaller 6.5-inch display compared to a slightly larger 6.7-inch screen on the older device. Anyways, the resolution will remain the same at HD+ (1600 x 720 pixels).

The Y60s will arrive with identical cameras to the Y60. It will sport a 13MP primary sensor paired with a 0.08MP depth sensor. On the front, it will have a 5MP selfie camera.

The phone will be backed by a smaller 4,500mAh battery (vs 5,000mAh unit), and therefore, it will weigh lighter at 183.2g (vs 193g). It will be available in Iris Black and Wheat Ear Gold color options.

Last but not least, the 6GB + 128GB variant of the phone will carry a suggested retail price tag of ¥1,499.

Coolpad is yet to make any official announcement regarding this product.

Infinix is apparently planning on releasing a new budget smartphone model in India soon. The company’s Hot 40i is making its way to the region and a fresh report has revealed some details regarding its launch and pricing. So here are all the details.

According to a 91Mobiles report, the Infinix Hot 40i will be available for sale in the first half of this month. In other words, the release is mere days away and an official announcement should be right around the corner. The company had first released the Hot 40i smartphone in Saudi Arabia back in November 2023. Now, the latest report claims that the Hot 40i will be the first model from the Infinix Hot 40 series, which is arriving in India.

Furthermore, the handset will come in a single 8GB + 256GB storage option. Since it is a budget phone, it could be the most affordable smartphone with 256GB storage in India. The Infinix Hot 40i could likely offer support for virtual RAM expansion of up to 8GB and a microSD card slot just like its global variant. To recall, it sports a 6.56-inch LCD panel with HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the device is equipped with the UNISOC T606 SoC.

A large 5,000mAh battery pack powers this model, which also supports 18W fast charging. The rear packs a 50-megapixel dual camera setup, while the front houses a 32-megapixel selfie shooter. Other notable features include side mounted fingerprint scanner, dual SIM card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Huawei ranks first in smartphone sales in China in early 2024, surpassing Apple

Huawei experienced an exciting growth in the Chinese smartphone market in 2023. Recently IDC report revealed that Huawei’s shipments increased by 36.2% in Q4, 2023 making it the fourth-largest smartphone brand in China. 

A new report by Counterpoint Research now reveals that Huawei has clinched the top spot in smartphone sales during the first two weeks of 2024.

The achievement is particularly noteworthy, not just because it has surpassed Apple, but also because it’s the first time since the 2019 US ban that Huawei has secured the leading position in terms of smartphone sales in China. 

As expected, the Mate 60 series is the key to Huawei’s recent success in the Chinese market. Launched last year, the smartphones feature a Kirin 9000S processor and Harmony OS operating system. Mate 60 series is still said to be in high demand in the mainland, according to local distributors.

Looking ahead, the company has ambitious plans to launch Harmony OS NEXT; an operating system with Huawei’s own kernel which will phase out Android app support completely. Expected to launch by the end of 2024, its success will have a significant impact on Huawei’s smartphone business.

Except for the Mate 60, the Nova 12 series launched back in December has also helped Huawei to increase its sales numbers. These are all mid-range smartphones powered by Kirin processors, except for the Nova 12 Lite which has a Snapdragon 778G 4G chip inside. 

According to a Counterpoint report, the high-end smartphone market in China saw a growth of 27% in 2023. While Apple continues to hold the top position, Huawei and other Chinese brands have been gradually chipping away at Apple’s market share since the third quarter of 2023.
