Tecno Phantom X2 Pro passes through JerryRigEverything’s durability test

The Tecno Phantom X2 Pro is the first-ever smartphone with a Retractable Portrait Lens. The Phantom X2 Pro which was announced by Tecno in January this year, has now undergone the JerryRigEverything durability tests. The results from the grueling stress tests on the premium Tecno smartphone are however not flattering.

JerryRigEverything has become a gold standard for determining the durability of any smartphone. It helps to shed off all the hype about a device and provides a barebone assessment. The conclusion from the durability tests for the Phantom X2 Pro may indicate that the smartphone’s supposedly ground-breaking design may be a ruse. The JerryRigEverything host, Zach Nelson noted that the portrait photography use-case of the smartphone requires a secondary depth-sensing camera. This was also indicated in the phone’s UI. In addition, the motor that moves the retractable lens was observed to be easily inhibited by a human finger.

The Phantom X2 Pro rear panel, made from 48% reclaimed ocean plastic was discovered to easily attract sticky materials. The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset. The X2 Pro comes with a Gorilla Glass Victus screen and a metallic mid-frame. These enabled the Phantom X2 Pro to come unscathed in the scratch, bend, and burn tests.

The full result of the JerryRigEverything teardown of the X2 Pro is still pending at this time. The Tecno Phantom X2 Pro is priced at $549 and is signposted by its 50MP main camera.

WhatsApp Beta Resolves User Concerns with Bottom Navigation Bar

The previous update (2.23.10.6) introduced a redesigned interface with a bottom navigation bar, simplifying tab switching for users. Taking user feedback into account, WhatsApp has now reintroduced the ability to swipe between tabs in the latest beta update.

Furthermore, WhatsApp has made improvements to support Material Design 3 principles in this update. Redesigned switches and floating action buttons now adhere to the new guidelines. Additionally, rounded menus have been introduced, enhancing the visual appeal and overall consistency of the app.

These exciting features are currently available to selected beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for Android update from the Google Play Store. Over the coming weeks, more users will have access to these features as they are gradually rolled out.

WhatsApp is also working on enhancing the media picker experience on Android, as well as unveiling VR integration with Meta Quest headsets. Additionally, a high-quality photo-sharing option has been introduced in one of the previous beta updates.

Nothing reveals key features of the Phone (2)’s transparent charging cable

Earlier this week, the design for the USB Type C cable that will charge the Nothing Phone (2) was officially teased by the company’s CEO Carl Pei. Now, the key features of this unique cable has also been revealed ahead of the launch of its upcoming smartphone.

Nothing Phone (2)’s Type C cable took 2 years to develop

The company shared more details recently, which shows that the cable wasn’t easy to build. According to official notes, the team behind it had made over 20 design concepts, most of which were rejected by manufacturing partners as they were difficult to produce. Te brand also added that the cable with the transparent design took an overall development time of 2 years, which included the designing process and the materials.

Nothing

Nothing Phone (2)’s charger uses an industry first molding technique to create an iron shell body that has no defects. To achieve this, the company had to stretch the material four times by annealing it at more than 1,000 degrees three times. All of this was done to get a design that was seamless with no lines or surface defects on the body. The shell is also pre-plated and sandblasted, with an electroless plating process helping in keep the surface scratch free.

Nothing made sure its cable passed through over 25 tests to ensure resistance and durability to the environment around us. This cable was even teased for being able to withstand bending more than 16,000 times, which is more than 60 percent higher than the general industry standards.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 could adopt a new aspect ratio and retain the 50MP GN3 sensor

While we are eagerly awaiting the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, speculations have begun swirling around the company’s next installment, the Galaxy Z Fold 6. A tech tipster, @Tech_Reve, has suggested that the Z Fold 6 may introduce noteworthy design changes, most notably a shift in aspect ratio for the phone’s cover screen, which could be inspired by Google’s Pixel Fold.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 4
Samsung Galaxy Fold 4

According to the source, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 might retain the 50MP ISOCELL GN3 sensor from the Z Fold 4 and the upcoming Z Fold 5, which could be a letdown for those anticipating a camera upgrade. But the intriguing aspect lies in potential changes to the phone’s screen dimensions.

Galaxy Z Fold 6: A New Aspect Ratio on the Horizon?

Presently, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 sports a 23.1:9 aspect ratio. The leaker suggests that Samsung may experiment with a broader aspect ratio for the Galaxy Z Fold 6, possibly emulating the design strategy of Google’s Pixel Fold, which uses a wider screen than previous Samsung models. This change could mean a design shift towards more conventional aspect ratios seen in foldable phones like the Honor Magic Vs (21.3:9), vivo X Fold 2 (21:9), and Google’s Pixel Fold (17.4:9).

However, it’s important to note that these are preliminary speculations and should be treated with skepticism. The source does not provide specific details, and Samsung’s design and strategy could change based on numerous factors, including user feedback and the performance of the yet-to-be-released Galaxy Z Fold 5.

The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 is set to be unveiled alongside Galaxy Z Flip 5 at Samsung’s Unpacked event next month in South Korea, and its reception may influence the design direction of future models, including the Z Fold 6. For now, these rumors offer an intriguing glimpse into possible future developments for Samsung’s foldable phone series.

Apple iPhone SE 4 may not launch next year either

Despite rumors and reports circulating online, there was no sign of Apple planning on unveiling a new entry in its iPhone SE series this year. And now, it appears that there won’t be a new iPhone SE model arriving next year either.

Apple could have halted iPhone SE 4 development

The information arrives from Barclay analysts who were apparently in contact with the Cupertino based giant’s supply chain. Their report stated that the iPhone maker has been working on developing their own 5G modem. In other words, the company is looking to move away from buying 5G modems made by Qualcomm for their future iPhone models as well as other products.

Apple

However, this report implies that the brand has no plans to launch a new iPhone SE model anytime soon. Earlier this year, we covered a report that hinted at the iPhone SE 4 launching in 2024 with an OLED display and Apple’s proprietary 5G chipset. But the latest information hints otherwise, with the iPhone SE model likely not launching in 2024 either since the 5G chipset will only enter mass production by 2025, according to known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In other words, a new iPhone SE model will launch in the same year as the iPhone 16, which is nearly two years away as of right now. For those unaware, the iPhone SE arrives as the company’s compact flagship phone and has an affordable price tag compared to its main line premium entries. The last model launched back in 2022 and it seems that fans of this series might have to wait two whole years for its successor.

What’s New in iOS 16.5.1 Update?

One of the security flaws allowed an app to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple acknowledged that this issue may have been actively exploited on iOS versions released prior to iOS 15.7. The second vulnerability was related to Webkit, where processing malicious web content could lead to arbitrary code execution.

In addition to the security fixes, the update addresses an accessory issue introduced in iOS 16.5. The problem impacted users who relied on Apple’s Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter to charge their iPhones. With this update, users can now resume using the accessory as intended. Apple’s release notes mention that the update is recommended for all users and provides important security improvements.

iOS 16.5.1

Alongside iOS 16.5.1, Apple has released corresponding updates for other devices, including iPadOS 16.5.1, watchOS 9.5.2, and macOS Ventura 13.4.1. The iPad update specifically addresses the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter bug, while all the updates provide general security enhancements and resolve various issues.

To ensure the security and optimal performance of your Apple devices, it is recommended to update to the latest available software versions promptly. The updates are accessible through the Settings app by following these steps:

  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Go to the General section.
  • Tap on Software Update.
  • Wait for the page to refresh.
  • The update will appear.
  • Tap on Download and Install.
  • Read and agree to the Terms of Service.
  • Keep your device connected to a power source until the update is complete.

It is worth noting that if the initial iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma betas do not include these publicly released patches, they are expected to be included in beta 2, which could be released soon.
