Upgraded Apple Magic Keyboard with Multiple Roller Hinges Unveiled

Apple introduced the first iPad model in 2010. The device, which has improved a lot since then, now has the power of a computer. This has led iPads to be seen as laptop alternatives. But as powerful as it is, the iPad is a touchscreen device, and it needs a keyboard to replace laptops. Apple, on the other hand, solves this deficiency with the keyboard support it provides on accessories. The company’s keyboards turn the iPad into a 2-in-1. However, the US tech giant is determined to improve this system Lastly, Apple granted patent describes a new Magic Keyboard that includes multiple roller hinges that provide greater angular options for iPad. Here are the details…

Apple granted patent describes a new Magic Keyboard that includes multiple roller hinges

Today the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially granted Apple a new patent that expands on a possible next-gen hinge system for Apple’s Magic Keyboard. The new multiple roller hinge system would provide users with more flexibility in angling the iPad to their liking as opposed to today’s single angle design. Apple’s possible next-gen Magic Keyboard could contain multiple new roller and spacer elements as well as retention structures that  could provide tension to increase the frictional force between the roller and spacer elements, and/or provide counterbalance to offset the weight of the iPad.

Apple Magic Keyboard Patent

The hinge assemblies may include one or more roller elements (including cylindrical bodies) engaged with spacer elements (or linking elements), with a spacer element positioned between adjacent roller elements. Each spacer element can provide multiple surfaces, each of which is contoured to the shape of a roller element. The movement of the hinge assembly is based in part upon the roller elements rotating along the spacer elements, as well as movement of the roller elements and the spacer elements in multiple dimensions (that is, in a three-dimensional space).

Further, in some instances, the roller elements and the spacer elements synchronously move together to provide a more fluid movement of the hinge assembly, as well as the sections (of the accessory device) coupled together by the hinge assembly. Apple notes that when the accessory device holds an electronic device, the counterforce, or holding force, provided by the accessory device depends upon the angle at which the hinge assembly positions the section(s) holding the electronic device.

In this regard, the force provided by the hinge assembly changes based upon the position of the hinge assembly. Accordingly, the counterforce provided by the hinge assembly is a function of the angular position of the section(s). The aforementioned variables can all be manipulated to provide an accessory device with a desired user experience.

However, when you compare them side by side, you can notice that the camera module on the Pro model is larger. That’s because the X90 Pro arrives with bigger-sized primary and telephoto cameras.

The Pro variant also has a slightly larger battery. Lastly, it even offers support for wireless charging, which is missing in the vanilla version.

OpenAI Will Disclose Articles Written by ChatGPT

ChatGPT is taking the Internet by storm. The Artificial intelligence has not only caught the eye of the business community but also led to the emergence of similar services. We recently shared with you the news that Microsoft has invested $10 billion in OpenAI and that Baidu is working on a competitor AI. But not everyone is as satisfied with ChatGPT as Microsoft is. Unfortunately, the internet was filled with AI-generated content just in two months. Wanting to fix the issue, OpenAI releases tool to detect AI-generated text, including from ChatGPT. Here are the details…

ChatGPT and AI-Generated Content Under the Microscope with OpenAI’s Latest Launch

After months of debate and confusion, OpenAI has released a tool that distinguishes text written by human and artificial intelligence. This software, which detects both the company’s own ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence tools, is a good start, but it’s not enough. Unfortunately, the success rate of this tool called “AI Text Classifier” is around 26%. OpenAI, which also states this problem on its website, will probably improve the system in the future.

OpenAI AI Text Classifier

Obviously, we wanted to try the tool in question and prepared two texts. One of them was written by ChatGPT and the other by me, who is also the author of this article. Unfortunately, the result was not quite what we expected. Both articles received the warning “The classifier considers the text to be unclear if it is AI-generated”.

Acknowledging the margin of error, OpenAI also warns about the issue. The statement written on the company’s website reads as follows: “Our intended use for the AI Text Classifier is to foster conversation about the distinction between human-written and AI-generated content. The results may help, but should not be the sole piece of evidence, when deciding whether a document was generated with AI. The model is trained on human-written text from a variety of sources, which may not be representative of all kinds of human-written text.”

“AI Text Classifier” also has some limits. Current limitations:

  • Requires a minimum of 1,000 characters, which is approximately 150 – 250 words.
  • The classifier isn’t always accurate; it can mislabel both AI-generated and human-written text.
  • AI-generated text can be edited easily to evade the classifier.
  • The classifier is likely to get things wrong on text written by children and on text not in English, because it was primarily trained on English content written by adults.

Samsung to Push Through Chip Profit Drop, Won’t Lower Production Level

Despite the global chip market seeing a decline, it seems that Samsung aims to push through the fall in its profits. The company has announced that it will maintain its chip production level amid the downward trend of the memory chip segment.

The South Korean tech giant made this announcement during its latest financial report earlier this week. During this report, the brand stated that it had an operating income of 270 billion won for the fourth and final quarter of 2022. This marked the lowest ever operating income over the last ten years. But while the company is aiming on retaining its production output for its chips, its rivals in the industry, Micron and SK Hynix, have announced their plans to lower their spending on chips.

Samsung

Due to the current market conditions, both firms are slashing expenses on their facilities this year to produce fewer chipsets. SK Hynix has stated that it plans to reduce its expenditure on its foundries in 2023 by around 50 percent to that it spent in 2022. Similarly, Micron is also lower chip production output by 20 percent this year. Amid these announcements, Samsung revealed that it will still maintain its expenditures despite seeing a drop in profits.

The company believes that retaining its investments during the weak market condition, it is also a “good opportunity” for the future. Furthermore, the company added that it will continue to spend on infrastructure to better prepare for mid to long term demand, since it could impact growth from maintenance or equipment reorganization.

Moto E13 Indian Launch Could Happen on Feb 8, To Be Priced Below ₹10,000

Last week, Motorola launched the super affordable Moto E13 smartphone in Europe and other regions. It has not yet come to India, however, Indian customers won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on this device according to a new leak.

Moto E13

Known tipster Mukul Sharma has tweeted that the Moto E13 will be launching on February 8 in India. Additionally, he informs that the device will be positioned in the sub-10K segment, which essentially means that it will have a price tag below the ₹10,000 mark. The device is already selling in Europe for 119.99 Euros (roughly $130/ Rs. 10,600). Considering that Europe gets their devices a bit overpriced compared to India, it is likely that the smartphone will be priced a fair bit below the ₹10,000 mark. The last bit of information mentions that the device will come to India in a 4GB RAM + 64GB storage configuration.

Moto E13 specs

Spec-wise, the Moto E13 has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display offering an HD+ resolution. Under the hood, it has an entry-level Unisoc Tiger T606 chipset which has been used in various budget range devices in the past. It has two ARM Cortex A75 cores clocked at up to 1.6 GHz and six power-efficient ARM Cortex A55 cores at up to 1.6 GHz.

Moto E13

Althought its made to look like a dual camera setup, the Moto E13 only has a single camera on the back with a 13MP sensor. The other cutout houses the LED flash. The Motorola smartphone has a 5MP selfie camera up front.

It runs on a 5,000mAh battery that can handle 10W charging. Dual SIM card capability and Bluetooth v5.0 connectivity are also features of the 4G smartphone. A MicroSD card is also available to allow you increase the storage capacity to 1TB. In addition, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Anker Finally Admits That Its Eufy Security Camera Are Not Natively Encrypted

Anker has finally admitted to a major accusation regarding its Eufy security camera. So now, the company has come clean regarding some of its “always encrypted” Eufy cameras not producing encrypted streams all of the times. So here are all of the details.

The Verge has been attempting to get a statement from the company, although, it deflected any form of communication while also ignoring its emails. However, when cornered against the wall, the brand finally admitted that its Eufy security cameras are not natively end to end encrypted. In other words, they are able and sometime did produce unencrypted video streams for Eufy’s web portal. This is similar to the ones that were accessed by The Verge from across the US using an ordinary media player.

Anker

However, Anker claims that it has now largely fixed this issue. The company stated that every video stream request originating from Eufy’s web portal will now be end to end encrypted same as they are on the Eufy’s app. Furthermore, the company is now working on updating its every single Eufy camera to use WebRTC, which is encrypted by default. Although, these cameras can still produce unencrypted footage upon request.

Lastly, Anker also issued an apology for the lack of communication and has promised to do better in the future. It has also confirmed that it is bringing in a third part security testing company, which is a “leading and well known security expert”. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Google Pixel 2 Gets a Taste of Android 13 With LineageOS 20 Custom ROM

Custom ROMs have been a point of interest for smartphone enthusiasts for a long time now. Users install custom ROMs to revitalize their aging smartphones. Many Android manufacturers promise up to four years of OS updates, but this is often limited to newer devices. Older phones often get left behind after a few updates. Custom ROMs can give new life to perfectly usable but outdated phones.

Take the Google Pixel 2, for instance. Launched in 2017 with Android 8.0 Oreo, the device received its last security update in December 2020 and was no longer supported by the company. However, if your Pixel 2 is still working well and its performance fits your needs, you can try Android 13 with LineageOS 20.

LineageOS 20

The first LineageOS 20 build, based on Android 13 QPR1, was released on the final day of 2022. The initial list of supported devices was small, but the team has since expanded its roster. With the latest build, LineageOS 20 now supports the following devices:

  • Google Pixel 2
  • Google Pixel 2 XL
  • Nubia Z17
  • Nubia Z18 Mini
  • BQ Aquaris X
  • BQ Aquaris X Pro

The custom ROM is also available for two Android TV boxes, the Askey Google ADT-3 Developer Kit and the Dynalink TV Box. Simply visit the LineageOS Wiki pages for the respective device to find the installation steps and download links for the Custom ROM.

Lastly, the Pixel 2 isn’t the only Android phone to receive support from the custom ROM community. The Galaxy S3 and Note 2 were given a taste of Android 13 just months after its release. These examples from the custom ROM community show that the art of creating custom ROMs is alive and well, and people who are still attached to their old smartphones can use them without any snags or complaints.

An All-screen Apple Foldable Notebook Is in the Works, Could Launch in 2025

Apple might be entering a new phase of its product lineup, as each new leak brings forth a new angle to Apple’s approach to folding devices. Now, a new rumor has emerged regarding Apple’s latest product development – a foldable notebook with a 20.5-inch display. According to display analyst Ross Young, this cutting-edge device could be launched as early as 2025.

Apple Logo

As per a recent speculation, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed the tech giant was developing a foldable iPad for 2024. However, Young and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman disputed this notion and stated there are no signs of such a product being launched in the near future.

This is not the first time the rumors of an all-screen foldable MacBook have made headlines, as Young shared similar information in February 2022. He stated that Apple was in talks with suppliers about foldable notebooks with displays around 20 inches in size.

Today’s report suggests that Apple is still pursuing its foldable notebook idea, which would allow users to either use a full-size on-screen keyboard when folded or connect an external keyboard when unfolded. Young has previously referred to this product as an “all-new product category” for Apple.

Unlike current Mac notebooks that feature a single display with a keyboard and trackpad, this dual display design is expected to be a game-changer. The exact positioning of the rumored 20-inch Apple foldable, whether as an ‌iPad‌, Mac, or a new product category, is still unclear. However, multiple sources seem to agree that 2024 may be too early for such a cutting-edge device. It will be interesting to see how the American Technology company markets its new line of foldable products in the future, since folding devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are already becoming a market norm.
