Nokia 6.1 Plus, which is the global variant of the Nokia X6 launched in China, recently received a new update with Android Security Patch. With this update, the company has removed the ‘Hide Notch’ option which was available earlier. It’s not clear if this is deliberately done or otherwise.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with a notched display. Thus, the company offered an option to hide the notch for those who don’t like this new trend among the smartphone manufacturers. However, with the August Security Patch update, the option to hide the notch is no longer available in Settings.

The changelog of the new update doesn’t mention anything about the removal of the notch hiding option. The Finnish company has not issued any statement yet regarding this, despite people complaining about this on social media.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 5.8-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD+ resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor paired to Adreno 509 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The internal storage is 64GB and has a dedicated microSD card slot for expanding storage capacity.

The phone has a fingerprint sensor placed on the back panel. Since it is an Android One device, it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo stock version. The company has also confirmed that the Nokia 6.1 Plus will be among the first devices from Nokia to receive the latest Android Pie over-the-air (OTA) update.

Camera configuration on the device includes a 16MP + 5MP rear dual camera with large pixels and dual tone dual LED flash. There’s a 16MP snapper on the front side with large 1.0-micrometre pixels and a wide f/2.0 aperture.

Connectivity features include dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Type-C USB, Bluetooth 5.0, and A-GPS. The phone is fuelled by a 3,060mAh battery with Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3.0 support for fast charging.

In May, Xiaomi had introduced a mini treadmill called the WalkingPad Mini Treadmill in China through crowdfunding program. It had arrived with a price tag of 1,699 Yuan (~$248). Now the company is introducing a new variant of the WalkingPad mini tread mill for the Western markets. Kickstarter is expected to begin the sales of the WalkingPad later this month or in October with a competitive price tag.

Compared to the WalkingPad model for China, its weight limit has been increased to 110 kgs from 90 kgs. Instead of the Mijia app, the WalkingPad heading to the western markets can be controlled using a standalone app. Apart from Kickstart, the mini tread mill will be also available for buying through Amazon in November.

The compact WalkingPad has a sleek metallic finish and it weighs only 28 kgs. It supports a speed range of 05 to 6.0 km/hr. The thickness of the device is only 12.9cm and it occupies a floorspace of 0.44m² when unfolded.

It comes with a mini LED display that shows exercise data. The manual mode can be used to set the speed manually using a remote control. The automatic mode can adjust the speed of the track by intelligently detecting the walking speed of the user. The other features of the WalkingPad are child safety lock, overload protection, automatic hibernation and novice speed aid.

Xiaomi has scheduled a launch event in India tomorrow where the company will be launching three Redmi 6 series smartphones. Now, ahead of the launch tomorrow, Amazon has posted a teaser image revealing that the phones will be Amazon-exclusive.

However, the Amazon teaser shows only two phones, one with a notched display and another having a normal display, suggesting that only two phones will be Amazon exclusive in India while the third one could be Flipkart exclusive. According to the reports, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 Pro will be Amazon exclusive and Redmi 6 will be Flipkart exclusive.

The company has already teased a few features of the upcoming phones, including a notched display, powerful and efficient processor, large battery and face unlock. Xiaomi has also teased Dual 4G VoLTE feature, which should work on Redmi 6 and 6A smartphones powered by the latest MediaTek chipset.

The three devices getting launched tomorrow include Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6A. The Redmi 6 Pro has been launched globally as the Mi A2 Lite. It has a 5.84-inch Full HD notched display with 1080 x 2280 pixels screen resolution and is powered by Snapdragon 625 processor with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

It features dual 12MP + 5MP sensors on the back of the phone and a 5MP front-facing camera. There’s also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and IR blaster. Running on Android Oreo-based MIUI custom interface, it is fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery.

The Redmi 6 has a 5.45-inch display and is powered by a 12nm MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. It packs 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage. There are 12MP + 5MP dual cameras on the back and a 5MP selfie camera and the phone is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

The Redmi 6A is the least powerful of all three and is powered by MediaTek Helio A22 12nm quad-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. It comes a 5.45-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It comes in three variants — 2GB/3GB/4GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB of expandable storage. There’s a 13MP sensor on the back and a 5MP front-facing camera and the phone is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery.

To know the pricing and availability details of the three Redmi 6-series phones in the Indian market, we’ll have to wait for the company to officially launch the devices tomorrow.

OPPO had unveiled its Realme 2 smartphone around a week ago. It is the second Realme device from the company after the Realme 1 phone that was launched earlier this year. The Oppo Realme 2 that has a model number of RMX1805 features a notched IPS LCD display of 6.2 inches that supports HD+ resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. The Snapdragon 450 chipset that includes a 1.8 GHz octa-core processor is present under the hood of the smartphone. It features a dedicated slot for adding a microSD card.

The 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera setup resides on the backside of the Realme 2. Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro leaked photos, renders to reveal front and rear design

Huawei has confirmed that it will be launching the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro flagship phones on Oct. 16 in London. These phones are powered by the world’s first 7nm chipset, the Kirin 980. Couple of new images of the Mate 20 series have surfaced on Weibo. One of the images is a render of the Mate 20 Pro whereas the other images show the real Mate 20 handset.

A recent report by XDA Developers had suggested that the Huawei Mate 20 will be arriving with a curved edge screen with waterdrop notch. The handset is also expected to arrive with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The smartphone shown in the following render features a curved display. However, instead of waterdrop notch, it is equipped with a larger notch like the iPhone X. The large-sized notched of the phone may house 3D structured light module to support 3D facial scanning.

The square-shaped camera housing that houses the triple camera and LED flash is placed on the rear shell of the Mate 20 Pro. The back panel of the phone lacks a fingerprint scanner which suggests that it could be featuring an under-display fingerprint sensor. Hence, it appears that the renders belong to the Mate 20 Pro.

The above shown images were reportedly snapped at the IFA 2018 tech expo in Berlin, Germany. These images show the alleged white colored Mate 20 Pro housed in a case. Previously seen images of the Mate 20 shows that its fingerprint scanner is placed quite near to its triple camera setup, but the white colored handset does not seem to feature a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Hence, these images could belong to the Mate 20 Pro.

In another leak, few images showing the front panel of the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro as well as a rear shot of the Mate 20 have surfaced on Weibo. The first image shows that the waterdrop display panel of the Mate 20 on the left and Mate 20 Pro’s display panel with a large-sized notch on the right.

Only phones with OLED screen can support under-display fingerprint scanner. Hence, the Mate 20 Pro feature an OLED screen whereas the Mate 20 may arrive with an LCD panel. The other images shown below seems to belong to the Mate 20 as it is equipped with a circular rear-facing fingerprint reader. There is a cutout for 3.5mm audio jack on the device.

Amid of numerous rumors, today we got an official glimpse of the Nubia Z18 via a poster hoarding. As from the poster itself, it is clear that Nubia Z18 is going to be the first Nubia device to have Waterdrop notch. The front camera is embedded in the Waterdrop notch itself along with a speaker. Even, the Invite also flaunts its bezel-less display and other aspects. The poster is seen in China just ahead of its launch on September 5th.

Nubia Z18 will also have a Van Gogh special edition variant. Its back will portray “Starry Night” painting of the famous Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. Further, the company seems to have particularly focused on the phone’s Camera and Display. As we can see in the poster above, they have revealed the bezel-less display with a small notch above it. iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) Renders Leaked, No Headphone Jack

As the Apple’s annual launch event on September 12th is nearing, the pace of leaks and rumors about new devices is increasing day by day. Apple is set to launch three new iPhones along with some iPad devices. Currently, nothing is official but according to latest leaks, an iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) is also due for launch at the upcoming event. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Red Edition launched in India

After teasing the Red edition of the Redmi smartphone in India, Xiaomi has today officially launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro Red Edition. With this, the phone is now available in five color options in India — Black, Blue, Gold, Rose Gold, and Red.

Currently, the Redmi Note 5 Pro Red Edition is now available for purchase on Xiaomi’s Mi.com and will soon be available through online marketplace Flipkart. The 4GB RAM model costs Rs. 14,999 (approximately $211) while the 6GB RAM variant is priced at Rs. 16,999, which roughly converts to $239.

Razer Phone 2 is coming, confirms Razer

Multiple smartphone manufactures such as Xiaomi, Nubia and ASUS have launched gaming smartphones in the recent months. However, the Razer Phone that was unveiled in November 2017 was the smartphone that had begun the current trend of gaming phones. The earnings report released by Razer confirms that the company is working on the second-generation Razer Phone.

The earnings report has no mentioning of the exact sales figure of the Razer Phone. It reveals that the smartphone was released in limited numbers and it garnered positive reviews across the world. Even the rumor mill is calling the successor phone as Razer Phone 2, there is no official confirmation on its moniker. Moreover, there is no information available on its specifications.

The company is now working on bringing its software and services from PC to the mobile market. There is a possibility that the existing Razer Phone and its successor could include Razer’s PC services such as zGold wallet, Razer Cortex Stream, rewards platform and Razer Game Store.

The company had showcased Project Linda concept at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018. It is a laptop-like device that features a slot for placing the Razer Phone. The laptop is powered by the internals of the Razer Phone. Also, the display of the phone can be used as a touchpad. Probably, the company is also planning to officially debut the laptop dock alongside the Razer Phone 2. The handset is rumored to go official by the end of 2018 in China. Huawei To Launch Smartwatch With One-Week Long Battery Life

We know it’s been quite some time since we got hands on any new smartwatch from the Chinese giant internationally. Well, the wait seems to end as Huawei is coming up with a new smartwatch with a week-long battery life. According to the Consumer Division CEO at Huawei, Richard Yu, the company is taking time to innovate the new smartwatch.

Recently, speaking to Digital Trends, Yu said that Huawei is not yet done with smartwatches. They are making new innovations for the Huawei Smartwatch, so that it can sustain the growing competition from other OEMs. Particularly, he talked about extending the battery life of the smartwatches by making it last for a week with a single charge. Huawei is also in talks with Qualcomm to make a new chipset which will help them to attain more battery life with better efficiency.

Currently, there’s huge energy consumption on Smartwatches due to always-on Bluetooth, Display and Sensors. Huawei wants to make a better, long lasting and Artificial intelligence (AI) powered watch without hindering the important features . They also want to make the smartwatches small and useful with increased productivity.

Honor re-opens bootloader unlocking for its smartphones on a trial basis

Earlier this year, in May, Huawei announced that the company will stop providing bootloader unlocking for Honor smartphones. The company’s decision upset many members of the community but a few of them were working to get the company to change its decision.

Now, in the latest development to that, XD Developers says that Honor has decided to re-open bootloader unlocking on an exclusive number of codes to the XDA Developer community. Currently, the unlock codes are available for download exclusively to XDA Developers on a first-come-first-served basis through this online form.

XDA users, who are interested in this, can apply for the codes using the form and all applicants will have the opportunity to share their feedback. Do keep in mind that it might take a few weeks to receive an unlock code after requesting one, but XDA Developers says that they’ll work with Honor to expedite the process.

The unlocked bootloaders make it easier for the developer to develop and create and to optimize the performance of the device. It also enables users to install a custom recovery, use a custom ROM and to get root access.

The bootloader unlocking processor on Huawei or Honor devices isn’t as simple as on Google or OnePlus phones. For this, the user needs to acquire a bootloader unlock code. So, when the company announced that it’ll stop providing bootloader unlock codes, it was a huge blow to the community. At that time, when asked about the reason for not providing the codes, the Chinese manufacturer had said that its decision is to offer “better user experience and avoid issues caused by ROM flashing”.

Snapdragon 855 Geekbench scores appear; Crosses 10k points in multi-core test

Most of the Android flagship phones that have released so far in this year feature the Snapdragon 845. Qualcomm is now prepping up the Snapdragon 855 as its successor. It is expected to get official by the end of this year. A new Snapdragon SoC with its codename “msmnile” has appeared on Geekbench. Its benchmarking scores are very impressive which suggests its none of Snapdragon SoCs that have launched in the past. Hence, it could be the upcoming Snapdragon 855.

As it can be seen below, the msmnile has scored 3697 in single-core test and 10,469 in multi-core test. The test device on which the msmnile chipset is placed features 6 GB of RAM and it is running on Android 9 Pie OS.

The benchmarking scores achieved by the alleged Snapdragon 855 is quite similar to what iPhone X’s Apple A11 Bionic SoC have managed to achieve on Geekbench. The multi-core scores of the SD855 is on par with Apple A11. However, its single-core is still lower than 4,300 score of A11.

The Cupertino company will be launching its new iPhones on Sept. 12. The upcoming iPhones will be powered by Apple 12 SoC which is expected to deliver even better performance than the A12. The benchmarking scores of msmnile are impressive but may not be comparable to the new 7nm A12 SoC. The msmnile chip has also surfaced at HTML5test in which it has scored 510 out of 555 points.

It is yet to be ascertained whether the msmnile is a chip designed for powering smartphones or something that has intended for Windows devices. Rumors have it that the Snapdragon 855 will be unveiled in December this year and it is likely to be introduced with a new naming scheme. A recent report has claimed that Qualcomm will begin its mass production by the last quarter of this year. The Snapdragon 855 will be the first 7nmm chipset from Qualcomm that will be arriving to take on Kirin 980 which was recently introduced as the world’s first 7nm chipset at IFA 2018. It is speculated that like the Kirin 980, the U.S.-based chip maker will also include a dedicated NPU inside the Snapdragon 855.

Upcoming Honor 8X Series To Come With Above 90% Screen-To-Body Ratio

Huawei is ready for the launch of another mid-range series, Honor 8X, on September 5th. The devices are expected to bring some powerful specs under the hood. Today, via it’s official handle on Weibo, Honor confirms both Honor 8X and 8X Max will have more than 90% screen-to-body ratio.

It’s been a trend from past year that the devices are getting bigger displays and smaller bezels. Already, various flagships and mid range devices have followed the same principle. So, Honor couldn’t stay behind this trend and hence the more than 90% screen-to-body ratio on the new Honor 8X series.

Honor 8X already got through TENAA, certification agency in China. We have also got to know about its specs which are quite good with Snapdragon 660 or Kirin 710 on board. It is expected to come to in two different variants, one with 4/64 GB storage and other with 6GB/64GB Storage. It will likely run on Android 8.1 on board with EMUI on the top.
