Xiaomi Redmi 6 Poster Reveals The Phone’s Front Design, Launching On June 12

Xiaomi is all set to launch its upcoming smartphone in its entry-level Redmi series. On June 12, at a launch event, the China-based company will be launching its sixth-generation Redmi smartphone — Xiaomi Redmi 6.

Today, Xiaomi’s president Lin Bin has shared a poster of the Redmi 6 smartphone which reveals the front side of the phone, giving us a look at the phone’s design and what to expect from it. However, the image is similar to the one that recently appeared on TENAA, which is said to be of Redmi 6A.

Xiaomi Redmi 6

Contrary to the previous reports, the newly released poster of the Redmi 6 reveals that it will come with a full-screen display but without a notch on top, which almost every smartphone manufacturer is embracing nowadays. However, the display is surrounded by thick bezels from all sides.

The recent TENNA listing of a phone with same design revealed that the smartphone will have a 5.45-inch HD+ display with screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio.

Further, the photo reveals that the smartphone will come with a single camera on the front side along with an LED flash for brighter selfies. The volume rocker and the power button are placed on the right side of the phone. We are expecting that the phone will have a fingerprint sensor placed on the back panel and the phone is also expected to come with Face Unlock feature.

The previously released poster related to the smartphone hinted that the Redmi 6 will come powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 processor. The chipset comes with eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and the company claims that it is one of the first chipmakers to bring 12nm processors to the budget segment. The Helio P22 also comes with Mediatek’s Neuropilot tech which has support for TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe, and Caffe2. It can select the best available AI resource for developer efficiency.

The Redmi 6 is also expected to come with a dual camera setup on the back, stacked horizontally along with an LED flash on the top-left corner. The primary sensor in the dual camera setup is said to be of 12-megapixel. The phone will be running Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box, possibly with the latest MIUI 10 on top.

OPPO Find X Has Dual Edge Curved Display, Hints New Teaser

A report from the previous week had claimed that Samsung Display will be providing OPPO with 6.42-inch AMOLED display panels. These are not flat OLED panels that the Chinese manufacturer is already using on its some phones like OPPO R15 series, but flexible OLEDs that are curved towards the edges like the Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+ and Note 8. The flexible OLED on the Find X is also expected to feature a notch. Hence, the rumor mill has been speculating that OPPO may use the dual edge curved display panels on its highly anticipated Find X that is rumored to house a 6.4-inch display. The newest OPPO Find X that has appeared on the official Weibo hints that the smartphone is equipped with a display that is curved towards its left and right edges.

Last week, the PAFM00 and PAFT00 OPPO phones were spotted on TENAA’s website. It is speculated these phones could be the two network variants of the upcoming OPPO Find X phone. The TENAA certification of the phone had revealed that it would be arriving with an AMOLED display that measures 6.4 inches. At the beginning of this month, a report on the leaked specs of the Find X had also revealed that it is equipped with the same-sized AMOLED screen.

The above poster not only suggests the presence of curved OLED display on the Find X, but also its chin seems to feature a breathing light indicator like the Find 7 phone from 2014. Since the upper portion of the screen appears very bright in the new teaser, it cannot be clearly seen whether it features a notch or not. However, rumors have it that it will have a notch that will be equipped with a 3D structured light module for 3D facial recognition feature.

It will be equipped with 16-megapixel + 20-megapixel dual camera setup with 5x loseless zoom. It has a front-facing camera of 25-megapixel.

LG G8 ThinQ Likely to Arrive with 4K LCD Display

LG G7 ThinQ and V35 ThinQ are the latest flagship phones from LG. Later this year, the company is also expected to launch another Snapdragon 845 powered flagship phone called the LG V40 ThinQ. The G7 ThinQ features an LCD display and an OLED screen is available on the V35 ThinQ. He has claimed that the G8 would be coming with an LCD panel and it will be carrying support for 4K resolution.

Most of the flagship phones that are available in the market either feature FHD+ or QHD+ resolution. As far as LG is concerned, it is one of the first companies to sell QHD resolution supporting smartphones. The South Korean company is now rumored to be working on G8 ThinQ with 4K LCD screen. There is no confirmation on why it has decided to increase the screen resolution on its 2019 flagship phone. It is being speculated that the G8 ThinQ may support 4K content. Hence, having a 4K panel will considerably enhance the viewing experience while watching VR content.

Sony is the only major smartphone maker that has been releasing smartphones that support 4K resolution such as the all new Xperia XZ2 Premium that offers ultimate 4K HDR experience. LG has shown less interest in VR, but it seems that it may begin focusing on it starting from next year

Using a 4K resolution supporting display could be company’s strategy to rival with Samsung as the latter is expected to use the new resolution on Galaxy S10 and S10+ arriving next year. The 2019 Galaxy S phones will be equipped with AMOLED display.

The LG G8 ThinQ is also likely to feature the upcoming Snapdragon 855 SoC. However, it is too early to comment on the specs and features of the smartphone as its arrival is almost a year away.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Case Leak Reveals A Mysterious Key and New Fingerprint Reader Arrangement

A known leakster known as Ice Universe has published two images on Twitter which give us a glimpse of the design of Samsung Galaxy Note 9 through a protective case. It is a simple TPU transparent case, but it reveals the presence of a dual camera in a horizontal configuration, as well as a brand new position for the fingerprint reader.

Unlike its predecessor, the fingerprint reader is now placed under the dual camera. At a first glance, it does not seem to be the best solution in terms of aesthetics, especially if we think that iPhone X does not even have a fingerprint reader on the rear side. But Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a fingerprint reader in a much more comfortable position if we compare it with its predecessor.

From what the cover is showing, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will have a Bixby key on its right side, while the volume rocker and the power key will be placed on the left side just as its predecessor. But on the bottom of the right side, there will be another mysterious key. We suppose it will be a dedicated camera key like the ones found on Sony Xperia devices. OnePlus 6 Serious Flaw Makes It Easy For Anyone To Take Control Of The Device

Security on Android phones is never an assurance, but this time the red line zone has been passed. A new flaw has been discovered on the OnePlus 6: it can enable anyone to take total control of the device easily. The flaw is with regards to the bootloader and in order to take advantage of this flaw, you just need the physical access to the device and a PC. It has been discovered by Jason Donenfeld, an XDA member and president of Edge Security LLC. If you have some basic idea of Android modding, then you might know that the standard bootloader installed on smartphones prevents installing custom ROMs on the device.

OnePlus 6

But due to the big flaw, the bootloader of the OnePlus 6 allows installing every customized system image, even though the bootloader is locked. To do so, the user needs physical access to the device and it has to be connected to the PC at least once. Then, you just need to boot the phone through the fastboot mode and flash the customized image. You can even install custom recoveries such as TWRP and obtain root access, and if you do so, there will be no usage limits.

So, if you own a unit of the OnePlus 6 and you actually lose your device or someone steals it, he can easily take total control of it and delete all of your data. After the discovery, OnePlus has been alerted and it has already released a statement on the matter. Here are the words spoken by the company:

We take security seriously at OnePlus. We are in contact with the security researcher, and a software update will be rolling out shortly.

A software update for the OnePlus 6 to fix the big flaw should arrive soon, but in the meantime make sure not to lose your device!

Nokia X6 Sold Out Yet Again In Fourth Flash Sale In China

Nokia X6, the first notched smartphone by HMD Global, was officially unveiled on May 16. Since then, it has only been launched in the Chinese market and, weirdly, it still hasn’t hit the global markets after almost a month. Maybe now we know the reason. The handset has just registered the 4th consecutive sold out in China. In case you do not know, it has been launched on three stores: Jingdong Mall, Suning, and TMall. On each of these stores, the handset went sold out very quickly, and now there are million people who have been left with empty hands.

Currently, there are 1.8 million pre-reservations for the Nokia X6 on Jingdong itself. The company has just published a post on Weibo in which it says that the handset is the second best-seller on JD. We still do not know anything about the availability of the handset outside of China, but Juho Sarvikas from HMD Global recently asked the company’s fans if they wanted the handset to hit markets outside of China, and this makes us think that the device will soon go global.

ZTE Apologizes To Its Workers, Clients, And Partners Over US Ban

While ZTE may be the biggest loser in the now-resolved US ban, there are some other affected players behind the scene. These include the employees, clients, business partners, and investors. ZTE has officially apologized to these group of people.

ZTE
In a memo circulated on Friday, the chairman of the company, Yin Yimin apologized about the issue. He confirmed that they paid a “disastrous price” for their actions. This includes the fine it has agreed to pay, a change of its board, and loss of clients who no longer have faith in the company.

It is also no surprise that there are workers that are scared of losing their jobs or having their pay slashed. One staff is credited as saying “Bonuses are bound to be affected”.

Another staff said workers are being called to have meetings where they have to deeply reflect on the matter and also attend compliance training. Some are also worried about the power struggle that will occur when the time comes to replace the outgoing management.

ZTE has agreed to pay a fine of 1 billion US dollars and an additional 400 million US dollars in escrow. It will also have to change its board and management in 30 days and has agreed to a 10-year ban in the case of future violations.

Google Pixel 3 May Come With Wireless Charging & Also Have Active Edge

Wireless charging is one of the features you will find in high-end flagships from the big names in the industry. The last time Google released a phone with the feature was in 2013 – the Nexus 5 (first was the Nexus 4). A new report says there is a chance the Pixel 3 (and Pixel 3 XL) will bring back wireless charging.

According to meraz9000 – the XDA Developer member that leaked the first set of Pixel 3 XL live photos, he found evidence that the phone may have support for wireless charging.

Pixel 3 XL front

While digging around in the SystemUIGoogle.apk file, he found a new set of permission – DOCK_IDLE and DOCK_ACTIVE. The code is said to link back to an app called “Dreamliner” but which isn’t on the device. It appears the feature is being tested in a secure environment.

You might be wondering how the device supports wireless charging when it has a metal back. meraz9000 says what we saw is actually glass and not metal though it still retains the two-tone finish of the previous Pixel phones. The upper part is said to be glossy and the larger bottom part has a matte finish to make it appear like metal.

Apart from wireless charging, Google will also bring Active Edge to the 3rd generation Pixel phones. This feature is known as Edge Sense on HTC’s U11+ and U12+ but is also available on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

Motorola One Power New Specs Leak: 4 GB RAM and 12 MP dual Camera

After Moto X4, Motorola One Power will be the second Lenovo device to have Android One installed, that is a stock version of the operating system supported directly by Google with fast and constant long-term updates. A recent post published by a leakster on Twitter and covered by GizmoChina has revealed the main specs of the device, but now another specs leak is showing a slightly different specs sheet. Now, either one of the two leaks is wrong or they are exposing two different variants of the handset.

From what the new leaked image has revealed, Motorola One Power will come with a wide 6.2-inch display showing images at a Full HD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. There will also be a notch and very narrow bezels. But there will be a chin and it will include the Motorola logo. This phone will be a competitor of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro as it will sport an octa-core Snapdragon 636 processor by Qualcomm paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. If previous reports have to be believed, it will also come in a configuration with 6 GB of RAM. On the rear side, there will be a dual camera setup in a vertical configuration which will include sensors with 12 and 5 MP resolutions, f/1.8 and f/2.0 aperture respectively.

motorola one power

The LED flash has been placed exactly in the middle of the two sensors. There is also a circular fingerprint reader with the Motorola logo embedded. Given that it will be powered by Android One, the operating system installed will obviously be Android 8.1 Oreo that is the latest version available, while the battery will have a high capacity of 3780 mAh.

Do you think Motorola One Power will affect the sales of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and become one of the most wanted mid-rangers of 2018?

Other than a Snapdragon 845-powered smartphone, we are not really expecting HMD to announce a new phone this year but it seems the manufacturer isn’t done yet. CAD renders of an upcoming Nokia 5.1 Plus have surfaced online and they reveal the phone will come with a notch just like the Nokia X6.

The CAD renders which are a joint work between @onleaks and TigerMobiles also includes a video. According to the source, the phone has a rough dimension of 149.5 x 71.9 x 8mm and a screen size of about 5.7 inches.

Xiaomi Launches The Affordable Mi Sports Sneakers 2 With a 199 yuan (~$31) Price Tag

Around April last year, Xiaomi went official with a new Mi branded Sports Sneakers which came with a stylish design and affordable pricing. The first-gen Mijia Smart Sneakers received lots of positive reviews and was a hot-selling product. The Chinese tech giant has now launched the Mi Smart Sneakers 2 as an upgraded version of that model. As an upgraded version, the Mi Smart Sneakers 2 presents with an improved look and better finishing. That is to say that most of the upgrade is in the design. Despite the upgraded design, the Mi Sports Sneakers 2 still retained the affordable 199 yuan (~$31) price tag which its predecessor sold for.Mi Sports Sneakers 2

The Mi Smart Sneakers is manufactured using the Uni-Moulding process which ensures 5 different layers and types of materials are fused into a single mould.  Each of the layers is separated using a thin polyurethane film pressed and bonded. Because the components are pressed together with the mould, the appearance of the components will appear to be cleaner than the ordinary manual glue combination, and the probability of the glue opening up s also highly reduced. The new uni-Moulding process also provides even better stability and support to the feet. In addition, the midsole is crafted using the INFUSE material by the popular company Dow Chemical (DuPont). IHS Markit Releases Its Top 10 Best-Selling Phones For Q1 2018 – iPhone X Tops

Research firm and global information provider, IHS Markit has released its ranking of the best selling smartphones for Q1 2018 and it is quite similar to the data earlier released by Strategy Analytics. IHS Markit’s data still places Apple‘s iPhone X in the number one spot with 12.71 million shipments in the first quarter

The overall top 10 phones on the list are entirely Samsung and Apple models. This is a massive change from the data recorded in the same period last year. IHS Markit’s Q1 2017 data included the Honor 5A and Vivo X9 among the top 10 models. In this case, none of the top 5 Chinese phone makers made it into the list. The veracity of the ranking is called to question as a result of the previous ranking by Strategy Analytics (shown in the chart below)which had the Redmi 5A among the top 5 highest-grossing models.

The second model on the list is the iPhone 8 Plus with 8.52 million shipments. Samsung’s 2017 MediaTek-powered smartphone – Grand Prime Plus maintained its occupation of the third spot with 8.33 million units shipped in Q1 2018. The Grand PrimePlus was also the third grossing phone model in Q1 2017 and its continued onslaught may have been inspired by its price. The Plus-sized iPhone 8 Plus comes in at number 4 with a total shipment of 8.04 million units. The Galaxy S9 Plus completes the top 5 with an estimated 7.45 million shipped units. Other models in the list include the Galaxy On5 (2016), Galaxy S9, iPhone 7, iPhone 6 and Galaxy J7 in that order.
