gi has launched a new special edition of its power bank which is meant to commemorate the opening day of the “Despicable Me 3” film in China. The Meizu Power Bank Minion Yellow Special Edition comes with the unique colour theme (Yellow Minion) of the main characters in the Despicable Me franchise which is the Minions. The Minions are so popular that the Pantone color institute named a color after them which is Minion Yellow. The special edition of Meizu’s fast charging power bank was launched on 7/7/17, the same day the “Despicable Me 3” opened in China with a record performance in the Cinemas.
The Meizu Power bank is sure attractive due to the bright yellow collour which it comes with. The box casing is colour in yellow, with “Despicable Me” written on one edge. The power bank itself also has its protective casing coated in yellow with a touch of black and gray. The power bank is designed in such a way that it looks like one of the minions with their iconic big eyes. There is also a protective cover made from canvas material which makes the power bank look like a dummy minion. Apart from the color coating, the power bank has the same shape as the regular Meizu power bank.
The Meizu Power Bank features a two-way fast charging technology meaning it charges smartphones very fast and when it is drained, it gets charged fast as well. The power bank is expected to have a 10,000mAh capacity but other details are yet to be revealed. We don’t know when it would be available for purchase or the price tag it would carry but that should crop up soon considering the huge media attention the Despicable Me 3 is presently generating in China.
Oppomart has appeared listing iPhone 8 cases amidst the growing coverage of rumors of what may be Apple’s next iPhone lineup.
The online retailer has listed three initial items, all which appear to be rugged cases for the new iPhone.
All the cases coincide with the current design features, leaked from Foxconn’s factories, that the ‘iPhone 8’ is supposedly going have; this includes the notable removal of the dedicated home button and finger print sensor at the front the device with an ‘all-display’ screen (with the case covering the bezels of the phone), effectively removing the prominent top and bottom bezels the iPhone has been known to have.
The cases also show the change in the dual-camera orientation on the rear of the device, coincided with other rumored changes with the iPhone.
From the day of publication, OppoMart has listed the cases as currently ‘out-of-stock’.
Apple has kept the pattern of releasing a new iPhone design every other year after the new installment, thus making the potential release of an iPhone 8 to be unusual. Other speculators have suggested that Apple may be changing up its routine on the iPhone series, however so far concrete evidence is lacking at this moment in time.
If the rumors are true of a design change, this may indicate that an iPhone 7 and 7s’ line could be skipped in this circumstance, leaving us wondering about the lifespan of iPhone 7 and 7s’ third-party accessories manufacturers. Will Apple release an ‘updated’ iPhone 7 variant if they introduce iPhone 8, providing an extended life span for accessory makers or will the downgrade the predecessor like all others will smaller internal storage?
What are your thoughts of Oppomart’s early accessory listing? Do you think this was a premature approach? Share your comments down below.

ASUS announced the Zenfone 4 Max as the first of the Zenfone 4 series scheduled to launch this month. A Geekbench listing hints at the next device not being far off.
The Zenfone 4 seen on Geekbench is listed as the ASUS_Z01KD and is powered by the SDM660 a.k.a Snapdragon 660. The octa-core processor is clocked at 2.21GHz.
The phone has 4GB of RAM and runs Android 7.1.1. Geekbench results shows the phone scores 855 points in the single-core test and 4127 points in the multi-core test.
Surprisingly, this pales in comparison to that of the Sharp FS8016 seen a couple of weeks ago. The Sharp FS8016 has the same Snapdragon 660 mobile platform and 4GB of RAM but scores 1656 and 5244 points in the single core and multi-core tests.
ASUS ZenFone 4 = 2 versions, one with Snapdragon 630, one with Snapdragon 660.
LeEco is facing very difficult times at the moment. Things seem to be getting worse for the Chinese company with respect to its debts.
The latest news is the resignation of Jia Yueting as the Chairman. A few months ago, he had resigned from his position as CEO of Leshi Internet and Technology Corp. A few days ago he also had his assets frozen as they were used as collateral for some loans.
It is important to clarify that Leshi Internet and Technology Corp. is different from Leshi Holding Co.. The former is a public company and the one that Mr. Yueting resigned from as CEO and Chairman. Leshi Holding Co. is the private arm that deals with its phones, TVs, and automobile arms.
LeEco’s woes seems to have started since its failed attempt at entering the American market. Jia Yueting himself had admitted that their expansion plan was too rapid.
Meizu Pro 7 isn’t a new entrant into the news, the flagship has been the subject of dozens of leaks which has not only revealed its likely specifications but also gifted us with the possible renders of the device. One thing that has been consistent is the renders of the Pro 7 which has shown the device sporting both a front and rear display. The renders of the Pro 7 has once again leaked, this time around in a video clip that is the product of a collaboration between Twitter tipster OnLeaks and tech blog Compareraja.
The video seems to be an unofficial render produced using CAD gotten from Meizu’s factory. The 22-seconds clip shows the Pro 7 and its sibling, the Pro 7 Plus in 360 degrees, giving us a view of all aspects of the device. The video supports earlier claims that the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus will only be different from each other in size, design-wise. While the Pro 7 Plus will come in at 5.7 inches in display size, the Pro 7 will have a 5.2-inch display.
Meizu Pro 7 is expected to be the first smartphone to launch with MedaTek’s Deca-core Helio X30 chip and that is almost confirmed. There are talks of a high-end model with 8GB of RAM and with the growing trend of 8GB RAM-packing flagships, that could become a reality. In addition, both the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus are tipped to feature a 12MP Sony IMX386+Sony IMX286 sensors at the back. Successive render images have consistently captured the dual lens camera setup the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus will come with. The front camera is said to have a 16MP sensor. The Pro 7 models will come clutching a Titanium alloy body and will have a ring flash with 10 LEDs at the back.
One interesting feature the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus are tipped to feature is the USB Type-C which will be a 24-pin USB connector system that would help both devices to become a host or a device. It can adopt either role depending on what is detected at the other end. These types of ports are called Dual-Role-Data (DRD). When two such devices are connected, the roles of a host or a device can be randomly assigned. A swap can be commanded from either device.
The Meizu Pro 7 Plus price was also leaked and should start at around $500 USD (around 3299 Yuan). The 6GB RAM+128GB storage version is expected to be priced at $550 (around 3599 Yuan). The topmost model with 8GB RAM + 128 GB storage is said to be priced at $580 (~3799 Yuan). On the other hand, the Pro 7 is tipped to start at $410 (~2799 Yuan) and that price is expected to go as high as $560 (~3299 Yuan)for the higher variant. Of course, these are all rumoured prices that could be nowhere near the final price the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus will be launched with. Here’s the video below for your viewing pleasure.
Lenovo has announced that its IFA 2017 keynote will hold on the 31st of August. IFA Berlin actually starts on the 1st of September and runs through to 6th but. it is not unusual to see manufacturers hold their product launches a day or two before it commences.
It is unclear what Lenovo will be announcing at the event but there are rumors of new products under the Yoga line. We are not so sure about any mobile phone for now but there is a chance some newly announced models will be on display. We might even be lucky to see some new Moto Mods too.
Some also say we may get new Lenovo branded phones. Although the Chinese giant keeps saying that it isn’t ditching Lenovo Mobile in favor of Motorola or Moto, recent activities have proved otherwise.
Nokia relaunched the legendary Nokia 3310 this year. It wears a modern design but still pays homage to the original in some ways. For €49 you can pick up the Nokia 3310 (2017) or you can pay $2,466 for a special edition made by Caviar.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Caviar, the Russian company makes special edition gold plated phones plastered with the face of President Vladmir Putin (and recently, Donald Trump). For the ongoing G20 Summit, Caviar has made a Nokia 3310 (2017) that features the face of the two leaders.
The phone does look nice from the front with its gold and ash colors. The menu button has the G20 logo engraved on it and the body is actually tempered titanium coated with Damascus steel.
The back is where the action is. There is a small plate at the top that has ”Caviar 001” written on it. Sitting in the middle of the phone is a coin-like design with the face of Putin and Trump. Beneath that is a banner that shows this is a G20 Summit special edition phone.
The specs are the same as the normal version but this is the dual SIM model.
The Galaxy On series is a budget line of smartphones exclusive to India. One of the series’ signature feature is the use of LCD displays instead of AMOLED. So far there have been 4 models released but Samsung is adding a new model called the Galaxy On Max.
The Galaxy On Max is a 5.7-inch smartphone with a full HD display. It has 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and is powered by a Helio P25 processor. There is a microSD card slot for expansion (256GB max) and it runs Android 7.0 out of the box.
The unique selling point of the Galaxy On Max is its flagship level camera. The phone sports a 13MP sensor with a f/1.7 aperture on the rear and another 13MP sensor with a f/1.9 aperture up front with its own LED flash.
The Galaxy On Max has a metal body that covers a 3000mAh battery. There is a fingerprint sensor beneath the home button that supports Samsung Pay Mini.
According to the source, OPPO will be releasing a mid-ranger smartphone named OPPO A77 in Taiwan. This is not to be mistaken for OPPO’s Mainland-China A77 model; the design being the major difference between the two.
From the leaked image, the Taiwanese model resembles more closely the OPPO A57 with improved specs. The Chinese A77 looks more like the OPPO R11, most especially the U-style antenna and the distinctive single rear-firing camera sensor.
A rough translation of the text on the leaked image says ‘For Youth Together’, hinting at the phone targeting a young audience.
In terms of specification, the OPPO A77 will be powered by a MediaTek MT6750T eight-core 64-bit processor, clocked up to 1.5 GHz and paired with 4GB RAM. The device will come with a 5.5-inch FHD display and will have 64GB, of built-in storage.
For photography and video, the A77 will come with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 16-megapixel front-facing selfie shooter. Other components include a 3200mAh battery and a standby dual-SIM setup.
According to the source, the OPPO A77 (Taiwan Model), will be released soon.
The Honor 8 Pro was announced a few months ago, though as the Honor V9 first in China. While there is already a successor in form of the Honor 9, Huawei is just launching the Honor 8 Pro in India.
In terms of specifications, the Honor 8 Pro is exactly the same as the Mainland’s Honor V9. It is powered by the same Kirin 960 octa-core and paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage with option for expansion. The phone has a large 4000mAh battery with support for fast charging and comes with Huawei’s EMUI 5.1 based on Android 7.0.
The display is a 5.7-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440p (2K display). The Honor 8 Pro has a dual rear camera setup: one is a 12-megapixel monochrome sensor and the second is a 12-megapixel RGB sensor. An 8-megapixel sensor serves as the front facing camera.
The device will launch as an Amazon Prime exclusive on July 10 at 6 PM local time for ₹29,999 (roughly ¥3151/$464). Just like the China model, the retail box will also double as a pair of VR glasses. There will be a pair of lenses in it. Just put them in place and slide in your phone and you can enjoy your VR content.
The Honor Band 3 is also listed as coming soon on the retail site.
A few days ago, there was a rumor circulating that Samsung was planning to release a mini version of the Galaxy S8. New reports say otherwise and there are a couple of reasons for the Galaxy S8 Mini not getting made.
First, it has been a couple of years since Samsung launched a Galaxy S Mini phone and that alone made us skeptical about the S8 Mini. The major reason according to the source is the difficulty in producing the curved OLED panels for the phone. It seems making the infinity display isn’t as easy as we thought it was.
The second reason is said to be the limited success of the Mini line and that is why Samsung stopped making it in the first place.
The Galaxy S8 Mini was rumored to have a smaller 5.3-inch display, a Snapdragon 821 SoC, 4GB of RAM and a lesser price tag. Now, all that is just wishful thinking.
Smartphones are no longer luxuries but everyday necessities for the common people in South Africa, nay Africa and one factor that plays a may role in determining which brand to go for is the price. Since price plays a big role, there has been a steady in-flow of substandard devices which lets users accept sub-standard devices. This situation is now set to change as Chinese phone maker Cubot collaborates with one of the largest retailer in South Africa, Arbalest. they were expecting for trendy smart phones with reasonable price.
The partnership makes Arbalest the exclusive importer of Cubot phones in the country and perhaps the region. Although Cubot phones are well known in ither regions like the EU, South America, Soudi Arabia, Russia and even Kenya, this is the first time the company is making an officil entry into the Africa market and South Africa. With this agreement, Arbalest has the right to bring the most favourable and trendy phones with different sizes ranging from 5 inches to 5.5 inches and with 13MP rear camera and selfie shooters ranging from 5MP to 8MP. The first batch of smartphones that would be landing South Africa will include Cubot Rainbow 2, Cubot Echo and Cubot Cheetah 2.
The Cubot Rainbow 2 is the company’s most popular smartphone is 2016 and its biggest feature was the ability of the camera to take clear photos with high resolution. The storages on all the models are also pretty good, with the smallest being 16GB and the biggest 32GB. All models will come with expandable storage to 128 or 256GB through SD cards.
Apart from the decent hardware, the Cubot models will also come with premium design and the prices would be their srongest selling point. The recommended prices would range from R1,599 ($119) to R3,499 ($261). In essence, Cubot’s entry into South Africa will be with budget phones but together with Arbalest, the Chinese company will further introduce mid-range models in the market and thus, gain acceptance from more customers.
