A few days back, Oneplus CEO had announced that the company will release the hydrogenOS in Beijing, China on May 28. However, it looks like the new OS won’t be the only thing we will be seeing at the event, as some leaked pictures show off a new Oneplus product.
From the images, we can see a metal like body with the trademark Oneplus logo on top. There are several pictures with slightly different angles, however, all of them just reveal the top.
This could be a new product from the company, and some users are saying that the product could be a new router from the company. However, we can’t really say whether the thing in the picture is a new product. It could also be just a box from the company. So, don’t get too excited, at least for the moment.
If this indeed is a new product, we are sure to see some more details in the coming days. And finally, it could be unveiled on May 28 which is just a couple of weeks away. So its best that we wait for some concrete information before making any conclusions.
We have been hearing rumors about an event from Meizu later this month and looks like it was for the official debut of the company in India. Earlier today, Meizu announced via its official Facebook and Twitter accounts that it will be entering the Indian market this month.
The company has held a new press conference in the country, where it will most likely unveil a number of its existing device portfolio. The company is yet to reveal which phones will make it to India first, but our best guess is the two popular devices from the Blue Charm series, namely the Meizu M1 Note and the Meizu M1 Mini will debut first in the market.
Interestingly, the event poster unveiled via a tweet uses the same quote from Lei Jun’s Speech at the Xiaomi Mi4i unveiling “Are You Ok?”.
India has one of the fastest growing smartphone market and its no wonder than many Chinese companies like Xiaomi, Gionee and even Nubia are trying to get hold of a share of the market. Meizu’s entry will further intensify the competition in the country, especially, in the mid-range and low-end segments.
Well, the announcement is just a few days away, so expect more details soon.
Yesterday evening, Vivo announced its new mid-range flagship in the market, the Vivo X5Pro. We already knew a lot about the device, thanks to the numerous teasers and leaks that were going around on the internet. So, the specs and features were in line with what we expected.
Yesterday at the time of launch, Vivo did not unveil the pricing of its new flagship. But earlier today, the company has finally revealed that the Vivo X5Pro smartphone will be available for purchase for just 2598 Yuan which comes to around $420. This turns out to be a great price for a device with features that include Phase Detection AutoFocus and Iris recognition.
Other tech specs are also pretty good. The phone features Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor under the hood with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. There is a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display up front with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. The rear 13MP camera will have PDAF, better than the iPhone 6 and the front camera will be of 8MP which can take 32MP resolution selfies as well as act as an IRIS scanner.
The phone comes with 2300mAh battery, which is a bit small as compared to competitors. But for the sacrifice in battery, you get a super slim body measuring just 6.44mm with 2.5D glass on both the sides. Finally, it will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop version with Funtouch 2.1 OS on top. Of course, this being a Vivo flagship, you get a powerful audio Hi-Fi chip inside. Its the CS4398 + AX97220 op amp, which supports Hi-Fi sound.
We all know that Gionee is going to release its flagship device for the year, the Gionee Elife E8 soon. The device recently hit TENAA which revealed that the phone will come with a 23MP rear camera.
While this rear camera unit is much bigger than competitors, it looks like the company has something more in store for its fans. Earlier today, a new poster revealed that the Gionee Elife E8 could be capable of capturing pictures in a massive 100MP resolution. Yes, you heard it right, we said 100MP! This will be the first time, a smartphone camera will be capable of taking such high resolution pictures.
Of course, you could have guessed by now that the camera unit itself won’t be of 100MP. Instead, the 23MP shooter will be able to digitally stitch and interpolate pictures to such a high resolution. It looks like Gionee will be using a similar tech to what OPPO used in its Find 7 flagship to take 50MP images. The camera could be the 23.8MP OV23850 that was announced back in January this year. It features 1 / 2.3 inch PureCel-S stacked CMOS, support phase focusing and real-time HDR functions.
Other tech specs are also pretty high end. TENAA listing revealed that the phone will feature an octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz, 3GB RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 3520mAh battery and also a Huawei Mate 7 style fingerprint sensor.
So, overall the Gionee Elife E8 turns out to be a powerful handset. Now, we just wait for the official launch of the device which should be pretty soon.

Smartphones have come a long way since they first started appearing in the market. We have seen many great phone companies rise and fall in this period, and the best example that comes to our mind is Nokia.
During the Symbian Era, we saw a number of different smartphone designs. Every phone from a known manufacturer had a different design. So there were candy bar phones, sliders, flip phones and a lot other varieties. However, as soon as Android and iOS brought about a touch revolution in the market, slowly each and every phone started to look the same with a similar candy bar design.
As for the body, for a long time, smartphones were made from plastic. Companies even tried out some different options such as metal, wood and leather. Each one has its own set of pros and cons and we are sure our readers will be divided as to which material they like the best.
Plastic was popularized by Samsung, since up till last year, almost all of the company’s smartphones were made out of plastic. It isn’t surprising to see the wide spread use of plastic for the smartphone body, since the material had a lot of advantages. First of all, its super cheap to mass produce. Secondly, its light weight, which meant that plastic phones were super easy to carry. Moreover, plastic doesn’t interfere with smartphone signal which came as an added advantage. So, naturally, most smartphone manufacturers went with plastic. Even today, maximum phones, especially the low cost ones are made entirely out of a plastic body.
After plastic, metal comes out as another popular option. The solid looks and the natural strength of metal naturally made it a good choice for the body. Metal smartphones were much more sturdy and the internals were also well protected under the solid shell. The good looks further increased the popularity of this material, which is evident from the immense praise that the HTC’s One series smartphones have received in the past three years. Also, the excellent heat dissipating property made it a good choice for powerful phones. However, metal isn’t without any drawbacks. One of the biggest disadvantages of using metal on a smartphone was the added weight. Yes, metal bodies smartphones are way more heavier than plastic ones, which may put off some customers. However, recently, companies have managed to solve that problem too, which has increased the use of metal on smartphones.
Another popular smartphone material used by many, especially in recent times is glass. Many flagship smartphones feature 2.5D glass these days, which enhances the overall looks of the device. Although glass is not as strong as metal, the advent of Gorilla Glass and even Sapphire Glass has made it possible for companies to use it in smartphones. I don’t think, I will have to explain the stress, scratch and other resistant features of Gorilla Glass and Sapphire Glass.
Apart from Glass, Metal and Plastic, companies are also using leather, especially for the rear casing. While the use of leather isn’t really a new concept, as luxury smartphone makers were offering this option from the start, recently, even the mainstream smartphone makers have started to use this material on their smartphones. The best example would be of Moto’s Moto Maker program which gives the user the option to customize their phone with leather. Another recent example is the LG G4 which comes with a beautiful leather back. The advantage of leather is that it feels premium and does not attract a lot of fingerprints. Also, it makes the phone stand out of the crowd. However, on the other hand, its not easy to remove stains from leather. Hence, if you are not a careful user, you will soon spoil your smartphone’s body, which is not as easy in case of plastic, glass or even metal.
Ofcourse, these aren’t the only options available to customers right now. At present, they can choose between materials such as kevlar, wood, and even ones with special coating as in the case of the LG G Flex (self-healing).
Each material has its own strength and weaknesses. However, in the coming age, it looks like we may see some newer materials (such as the one used in the G Flex) on smartphones which will be much better than plastic, glass or even metal.
So, which material would you like the best? Feel free to share which one would you prefer as well as the reason for your choice in the comments section below.

Vivo is one of those Chinese manufacturers that try to impress the audience with their products. The company was the first to introduce the 2k display on the smartphone on the Vivo Xplay 3s, first to use the Hi-Fi audio chips on the mobile devices. What is more, it still holds the crown of the slimmest device on the planet with their X5Max model, which is only 4.75mm thick.
As there were rumours and leaks regarding the successor of the camera centric device – Xshot, we thought that we could take another look at this device. Just almost one year later.
At the time of the release the company were the first to introduce the powerful combination of 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor with f/1.8 aperture, OIS and the dual tone dual LED flash. Also, vivo managed to put real flagship grade specs at that time – Snapdragon 801 chip clocked at 2.5 Ghz, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage (expandable up to 128 GB via Micro SD), Hi-Fi audio chips, 8MP front facing shooter with flash and more.
Does the vivo Xshot still have a killer camera? How does it work on the daily basis after using it for months? Check out our detailed video review of the vivo Xshot:
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to use the comments section either on Youtube or under this article and we will answer them all.
There are a few versions of the vivo Xhot. The one mentioned in the review is the Ultimate. However, you can buy an Elite version for a much lower price. It is practically the same device, but processor speed goes from 2.5 Ghz to 2.3 Ghz, it has 2GB of RAM (instead of 3 GB) and 16 GB (instead of 32GB) of expandable storage. It is still a great device with a great performance and stellar camera, and you can get it for as low as $399.

First, we have to admit that it looks like the iPhone 5C and the marketing strategy “For the Youth” is clearly altered Apple’s slogan “For the Colourful”. Nevertheless, the device comes in the variety of colours and a glossy plastic body.
The key features include a 5.5 inch 1080p display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, Mediatek MT6752 Octa-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 chip, 2 GB of RAM, 16/32 GB of internal storage (however, non-expandable), Dual SIM (Micro-SIM, dual stand-by), 13 MP/5MP camera combo. In addition, it runs the Flyme 4.0 OS on top of Android 4.4.4 Kitkat. All of these goodies are powered by a beefy non-removable 3140 mAh battery.
All of the specs sound good, but the price makes it even better, which is under $200!

Ulefone is a Chinese smartphone brand that was making smartphones for other companies for quite some time. However, they decided that they want to enter the smartphone business on their own.It seems that the entry has been quite a success so far, especially with its Ulefone Be Pro budget-friendly device, which has taken some design inspirations from the OnePlus One and has become very popular in its category.
The main specs of the device include 5.5 inch 720p resolution display, MTK6732 64-bit Quad Core CPU, which is clocked at 1.5GHz. Lenovo is one of the top selling brand in China and Lenovo K3 Note is one of the devices designed to keep the sales up. This is a device, which was made to directly compete with the Meizu M1 Note and other cheap devices with great specs.

Siswoo is not a manufacturer you are thinking of when it comes to Chinese smartphones, but this device is a solution for those, who want a compact device since the Cooper I7 spots a 5 inch display.
1 of 7
Also, this device may be for those who like the Meizu design language as the Cooper I7 clearly borrows a lot from the MX4.
Besides the design, the device spots a pretty reasonable package. It has a 5 inch 720p display, MTK6752 64-bit Octa Core chip, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 8MP/5MP camera combination, dual SIM card slots, 4G, 2100 mAh removable battery and more. The usual price was $200, which was definitely too much for the hardware. However, recent price cuts to $150 makes this device worth a consideration.
iOcean managed to produce a quite interesting device both inside and out. It comes in black and white versions, which both imitate sandstone finish more or less.
The device spots a 5.5 inch FHD screen. Under the hood it has MT6752 Octa Core 64-bit chip, 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable storage, dual SIM card slots, removable 2300mAh battery, 14MP/5MP camera combo, 4G connectivity, fast charging and more.
Jiayu is quite popular name in the Chinese smartphones category. The company manages to produce some respectable devices for a low price. This time around the company made a safe bet with its S3 3GB model.
The device has a decent build quality, design and great specs. It starts with a 5.5 inch 1080p panel and under the hood you can find goodies like the MTK6752 Octa Core 64-bit chip, 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable storage, 3000 mAh removable battery, dual SIM card support, 4G, dual wifi support and more. All of this costs just under $200 margin, which sounds like a great deal.
So there you have it, the best Chinese smartphones you can buy for under $200 in our opinion. It seems that you can get quite a lot from many manufacturers for this amount of money instead of spending too much for a flagship made by Samsung or Apple. It is always up to you, but we think that these devices are designed for not only those who live on the tight budget, but also prefer spending extra money on something else!
If you believe that some of the devices are really worth mentioning in this article, please let us know in the comments section below. Also, we always try to provide you with the best prices on the market to purchase above mentioned devices. Still, if you find lower prices, please let us know!
We knew that Mediatek was working on a new SoC in its recently unveiled Helio lineup. And today, the company has made the Helio X20 chipset official. Like expected the chip features a total of 10 cores with the world’s first tri-cluster design. This makes it an interesting chip, since it will be the first time we will be seeing such an architecture on a processor.
Inside, the company has used four power efficient Cortex A53 Cores clocked at 1.4GHz, four Cortex A53 Cores but clocked at a higher frequency 2.0Ghz and finally two extreme performance Cortex A72 Cores clocked at 2.5Ghz. The company has used a custom Interconnect IP called MediaTek Coherent System Interconnect (MCSI) for achieving a tri-cluster design.
The chip supports LTE Cat. 6, CDMA 2000 along with 802.11 ac dual band Wi-Fi. The power consumption has reduced as compared to Helio X10 and the company claims that the new chip consumes 30% less power during decoding and 40% less power while encoding videos.
As for the GPU, the Helio X20 will come with Mali T800 series GPU, although the exact GPU model has not yet been revealed. For memory, the chip comes with 2 x LPDDR3 Memory running at 933MHz.
The Helio X20 chipset is definitely an interesting offering from the company. We will have to wait and see how the chip with the world’s first tri-cluster design performs in real life as compared to other chips featuring big.LITTLE architecture.
Although Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro top-end edition back in January, the company officially released the device only last week. Now, just 6 days after the launch event, the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro flagship is available for purchase. Naturally, being a top-end Xiaomi device, we saw tremendous response for the device in China today.
The Mi Note Pro is available for purchase both via Xiaomi’s Mi House stores (from 9.30 AM) as well as online (from 12.00PM) via the company website. Given that the phone was going to be available through brick and mortar stores, for the first time, there were long lines formed outside these stores. In fact, many camped in for the night just outside the store, to make sure that they were one of the first ones to get hold of the device.
Well, Xiaomi has one of the best fan base in the smartphone industry, so its not surprising to see such high demand on its launch day.
You can check out some of the launch day pictures from down below.

Huawei Mate 7 was one of the best flagship smartphones of 2014. The all metal design and fingerprint sensor made sure that the phone was ahead of its competitors.
Now, Chinese media has given out some information of the upcoming Huawei Mate 8. The phone is said to retain the same all metal design as the Mate 7. This is actually a good move since Mate 7 was well designed and solid looking. The display resolution will be bumped up to 2K, instead of just 1080p. Also, the screen to body ratio will be as impressive as the current generation model. The phone will sport the company’s own Kirin 930 chipset under the hood and will support Cat. 6 LTE network.
Another highlight of the phone will be its rear camera, which is expected to feature Sony IMX220 sensor with 20.7MP resolution. This will be a much needed upgrade from Mate 7’s 13MP camera unit. Other specs are still unknown but fingerprint recognition will also be available on the unit.

Coolpad is a well known smartphone manufacturer in China. The company is known for its feature phones at affordable costs. Last week, we came to know that Coolpad was working on a new smartphone called as the Coolpad Tiptop Pro. It was said that the phone will feature a fingerprint sensor yet the price tag is expected to be just around 1000 Yuan ($160).
Now, the company has just announced via its Weibo account that it will release the handset later today. The device aims to be one of the cheapest fingerprint recognition enabled in the smartphone today. While there are some phones like the Newman Button Phone which brings fingerprint recognition to this price segment, there still aren’t many options from known manufacturers yet.
The company took to Weibo to state that most phones with fingerprint recognition like the Huawei Mate 7 and the Nubia Z9 are extremely costly. On the other hand, Coolpad’s new device offers the same tech at a much lower cost.
Other than the fingerprint recognition, the phone turns out to be a decent offering. It comes with Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and 8GB storage. There will be a 5.5-inch 720p screen on the front. The rear camera will be of 13MP while the front shooter of 5MP. It will support 4G LTE networks and will run on a customized version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS.

As you can see, the specs are pretty decent for a 1000 Yuan phone. In fact, we have seen phones with better configurations at this price like the Meizu M1 Note (5.5-inch full HD), but the fingerprint recognition on the device definitely gives it a slight edge over competitors.
We expect more details by the end of the day. So, stay tuned.
The Vivo X5Max which was launched in the second half of 2014 was the company’s thinnest smartphone in the market. While the X5Max S is from the same lineup, it won’t be as thin as last year’s model. But the highlight of the phone is its large 4150mAh inside an extremely thin body.

TENAA reveals that the phone will feature this large battery in a body with thickness of just 7.29mm. This is definitely an impressive feat and could be the thinnest smartphone in the market right now with a battery larger than 4000mAh.
The overall design is consistent with the X5Max. So, you get the same metal body with a two color tone design. As for the specs, the phone will feature the same 5.5-inch full HD display but with MT6752 octa-core SoC and 2GB RAM. There will be 16GB of storage which is further expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD. There will be a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP shooter up front. The phone will support 4G LTE networks (GSM, TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE), Beidou Navigation and dual SIM dual standby.
The company is expected to announce the X5Pro on May 13, and could unveil the X5Max S too at the same event. Stay tuned for more details.
Just two days back, we got news that Meizu has two big events scheduled for June, one for the unveiling of the MX5 and the other for the unveiling of the Meizu M1 Note 2 FHD edition. Now, new rumors reveal more details about the upcoming MX5 handset.
It is said that Meizu MX5 will feature a similar fingerprint sensor as the Meizu M1 Note 2. So, both the devices are expected to come with this sensor. Moreover, the body of the MX5 will be made out of metal, instead of the cheap plastic ones used in the earlier generations.
As for the M1 Note 2 FHD edition, the overall design and size is expected to be the same as the original M1 Note. Even the specs, such as MT6752 and 2GB RAM are said to remain exactly the same. So, this FHD edition may just have a few changes, like the presence of the fingerprint sensor.
The M1 Note 2 will most likely release on June 2, while the MX5 is expected to be announced at a separate event on June 30. Since, June isn’t far off, we expect more details pretty soon.
