LG G3 and Oppo Find 7 neck to neck battle

 

LG is a giant in mobile phone technology. Everyone must have heard the name ‘LG’. The smartphone market has been abuzz with phone like G2. On the other hand, the Chinese Mobile Phone ‘Goliath’ Oppo  is also set to enter into European and other markets.  LG’s new phone G3 is expected to be released in June 2014. Whereas Oppo’s Find 7 is already available in Chinese market. The manufacturer is looking forward to launch their new phone globally. Let’s put these two phones in a review arena and see who wins the battle.

LG G3 review

The LG G3 is designed to look like having a metallic body. Although it is plastic, but the effect is convincingly successful. It has a rear button which has been made flatter as compared to its predecessor G2 which had a protruding button. The dimensions of the phone are 146.3×74.6×8.9 mm. LG G3 weighs 149g, so it is lighter than Oppo Find 7.

Oppo Find 7

When it comes to Oppo, it is all about sleekness. The mobile sports a sleek body and finish. The mobile phone has carbon fiber back and alloy of titanium and aluminum frame. The frame is available in two colors white and ‘midnight’. The dimensions of Find 7 are: 152.6x75x9.2mm. The phone weighs  171g which may be slightly heavier for some users.

LG G3 review

 LG G3 comes with ridiculously high resolution with so many pixels cramped into medium sized mobile phone. It sports 5.5 inch Quad HD, 2560×1440 IPS LCD Screen with 538 ppi pixel density. The Oppo Find has exactly the same resolution. The stunning  5.5 QHD gives Oppo Find 7 gives equally fascinating Display experience as LG G3. Pixel density is also same i.e., 538 ppi.

let’s look what LG has hidden under its hood. The LG G3 is powered by Snapdragon 801 processor with a speed of 2.5 Ghz. The RAM is either 2 or 3 GB depending on the type of model; that is 16GB storage model and 32GB respectively. The Oppo Find 7 rivals the likes of LG, HTC, Motorola with quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC running at speed of 2.5 Ghz, with 3GB of RAM.

Oppo Find 7 has 13 MP rear camera. With f/2.0 aperture little help from software it can take pictures up to 50 MP. It is not slowed when it comes to video. It can record 4K video 30fps.  It has another front camera for video chat or closeup selfies.  The LG G3 has same MP back camera i.e. 13 MP. The front shooter rather falls short with 2 MP camera. Oppo find seems to beat LG G3 in this category.

The LG G3 has removable battery of 3,000mAh. Which make it a match for its rival flagship phones ,, HTC, Samsung. The Oppo Find 7 has similar 3,000mAh battery which could be recharged to 75 percent using VOOC Charging System.

The Oppo Find 7 provides connectivity through Bluetooth 4.0 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, NFC and plus LTE. This is a big leap for Oppo. The LG G3 is supportive of 3G, 4G, LTE Advance, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0. It has microSD slot to extend the memory to 128GB.

LG G3 is priced at $925 or £550 making it at par with other high spec phones. Oppo Find 7 has price tag of €400 or $544. The Chinese phone beat the LG G3 in the arena of price.  Oppo has upper hand as it is more famous as compared to Opp, which is a new comer in the global market.

The verdict is LG is claiming the battle with brand prestige. Oppo Find 7, on the other hand has put up a decent fight with real high spec muscles.

Apple’s Co-operation with the Government to Combat iPhone 6 Leaker

iPhone6-55-01Recently, Apple iPhone 6 had information leaked about it which was widely circulated on the Internet and the amount of information leaked may be more than the amount leaked prior to any previous generation iPhone in the market.

IDG, on May 31, reported that a foreign technology website was reported for iphonehacks, according to a man named Sonny Dixon. Sources say that the tweets posted on Saturday on Twitter state that Apple is working with government agencies to combat the iPhone 6 leaker.

Recently, Apple iPhone 6 leaked information widely circulated on the Internet, and the number of messages may be more than the amount of information leaked prior to any previous generation iPhone in the market. If Dixon’s message is accurate, then Apple is taking measures to stop this behavior straight away.

Specifically, Dixon tweets revealed that Apple is working with government-related agencies to prevent information leaks on iPhone 6 in the future. Apple hired as many as 200 Security Administrator/Security Officers to find those who are responsible for already selling the so-called iPhone 6 accessories in the market.

It is worth noting that this fight is not primarily to prevent merchants selling so-called iPhone 6 parts, but to stop any leaker. In May 2012, Apple CEO Tim Cook (Tim Cook ) has promised, Apple will in confidentiality double down, but this seems to have little effect so far.

Qualcomm Quick Charge? Sorry, Oppo is Aready a Step Ahead

In recent years, the development of battery technology did not keep up with the pace of improved mobile performance. Bio-batteries that fuel these products are still currently in the research state. Currently, they still rely on increased cell volume to increase the battery’s capacity.

However, the battery capacity increases brought about the increase in charging time becoming longer. Standard charging current also increases the mainstream charging current from 600mA up to now 1A ~ 1.2A, which has now nearly doubled. This has happened because of different battery capacities, using the same charger, compared to iPhone and Android machines, tend to spend more time charging.

Quicker charging rates will rise to two major problems: heat and reduction of the battery’s charging life. However, this makes the charging rate less than 50% its residual capacity. At least one hour before the machine can be more than 50% of the electrical impulse. Manufacturers are beginning to think of new ways to solve this ongoing and serious problem.

Tip: The charging speed can be roughly calculated by: the Battery capacity / charging current. Analogy, a 2500mAh battery can be translated into 2.5Ah. If the charging current is 1A, then the charging time is 2.5Ah/1A = 2.5h, which is 2.5 hours. In fact, because the output of the charger is often less than the nominal value and the final process factors such as trickle charging, charging time takes longer than the theoretical time states.

Qualcomm Quick Charge (referred to as QC)

In order to improve the charging speed, Qualcomm launched its QC1.0 technology to meet the Qualcomm chipsets and with a specific core premise of the largest mobile phone can accept a 5V 2A input, so that the charging speed is greatly improved.

Followed by the launch of QC2.0 technology, Xiaolong 800 helped to improve the CPU time and with the appropriate power management chip, phones can accept a maximum input of 12V 2A. By increasing the output power, it helps to increase the charge rate. However, the high-pass technique does not give details on how to control the temperature and the battery life.

Qualcomm test machine battery is 3300mAh. Normal charge that is used is a 5V 1A input. QC1.0 uses a 5V 2A input and QC 2.0 uses a 9V 2A input.

So far, although there have been numerous phone hardware models supporting Qualcomm’s QC2.0 technology, including the HTC One (M8), 3 Unicom version of millet, etc., the charger side cannot support QC2.0 charger. While Qualcomm QC has had excellent performance in the engineering prototype, on the practical application side, due to the lack of matching charger it is not strong enough to do well in the market.

OPPO flashing technology

There is another company in the quick charge technology business that is out of the practical first step. The high-pass type, Oppo used its technology to increase the charging current, which also helped to the increase the charging power. Thus, this also increases the charge rate of the battery. Qualcomm’s technology is a combination of Oppo technology, but is self developed.

Oppo flash technology (through extra battery contacts for charging batteries in parallel) can be understood as a simple point. Typically, it flashes while the battery is charging which reduces the battery charge in a current single block. It has been designed to extend the battery’s life. Thanks to Oppo’s good relations with upstream manufacturers, the battery and the charger are individually customized, so that the battery can withstand relatively large current inputs.

Judging from the appearance, Oppo has made improvements to increase the charging port for charging and for battery contacts. The PR manager of Oppo has confirmed some of the details of the technical aspects of their technology.

After completing some battery tests, thanks to this new technology, we find that the battery’s heat levels, during the charging process, is in a controllable and appropriate range.

At room temperature, at approximately 25 degrees in the environment, it will act normal. It will flash red during the maximum temperature if it exceeds 35 degrees, a temperature slightly higher than that of ordinary batteries. However, in the hot and humid southern summers, the temperature of the battery is still a cause for concern. If the thermal environment is not very good and with the high temperature of the battery, the battery’s life will still be impacted.

Furthermore, since the output power is relatively large, the charger is not as graceful looking as any other brand charger is. It currently is close to the size of a portable wireless router. In order to charge to necessary speed and volume it is understandable. After all, there is no charger technology that can reduce the volume.

Summary

In the category of quick charge, Qualcomm have already set the standard for mobile phone products that have hardware support, but did not push for QC2.0 support parts from manufacturers for its long term large-scale practical stance.

Compared to Qualcomm, Oppo already have practical products and have successfully extended it to a certain extent on energy. We hope that this innovation can help improve battery life around the whole world.

LG G3 Released: Innovative or Not Willing to Move Forward?

LG G3 was released 2 days ago. The overall level of hardware is now top of its class with its shape and with last year’s LG G2 there has been little change compared to the 5.5-inch UHD (2k) screen becoming the biggest improvement on the smartphone. According to market research firm’s Strategy Analytics statistics, LG smartphone sales last year totaled 48 million, which has made great progress compared to the previous years. The market share reached 4.8%, which made a significant contribution from the G2 smartphone. Will this trend continue with the G3? Does it have the ability to obtain the same good results? We look into the smartphones and make a prediction.

Where is the innovation in the G series?

LG has been suppressed with Samsung LG G2, but we have to admit that this year’s 2013 model, as the flagship product, does have a unique sense of innovation, in addition to the mainstream high-end configuration (except for its slim appearance), the proportion of the ultra-high screen (the LG G2 side in front of the phone) and having no physical buttons (except for the volume and lock screen buttons moving to the back of the fuselage) were done to largely facilitate the user’s one-hand operation. Meanwhile, G2 supports KnockON (double tap the screen to open the lock screen), QuickRemote (remote appliances), Slide Aside (three-finger slide which helps with multi-tasking) and other innovative features which the majority of consumer’s recognize as features they want.

What improvements were made to G3?

First of all, the 2k screen, as the biggest improvement made cannot help but to produce the “gimmick” problem. After all, more and more users have gradually become more rational with their purchases. The 2k and 1080p screen provides more than ample and delicate quality. However, users could not be as willing to place their money on features that are not affordable (besides the high resolution life), heating problems and perhaps unnecessary annoyance to the user.

Secondly, in the photography area, LG has introduced the first laser auto focus feature. This laser helps to measure any depth information available, which helps to reduce focus time. Its functions and the HTC M8 secondary camera’s depth of field have the same purpose. As to how effective it is, it is still unknown. Only after the actual experience can one make a good judgment call. Additionally, the rear camera is still using the camera’s 13 million pixel sensor, optical image stabilization function and the front is using its 2.1 million pixel camera. For the self-enthusiast, an interesting feature is as long as the user has a clenched fist in front of the camera can automatically start the self-timer.

Again, the G3’s and G2’s power button is exactly the same. I believe that in a good one-handed operation it is not just about having the power button moved to the back, yet its solution can be considered reasonable. When using the G2, I found in a short time, I got pulled back into the operation of the original power button derived based on the familiarity. It can be really simple and not so simple at the same time so it varies.

In addition, the G3 launch has several good intelligence applications. Including:

SmartCleaning which intelligently clears the system cache, SmartTips, which displays unused features tips, Content Lock, which hides the contents, and Kill Switch, which is the remote lock functionality. It is worth mentioning that LG also has the exercise and calorie consumption application, LG Health, to calculate the user’s health class. I believe that these features are designed to work with LG Smart watches.

Finally, G3 provides a selection of two main configurations, 2GB RAM/16GB ROM and 3GB RAM/32GB ROM, although no difference in appearance between the two can be distinguished. Also, the size of the memory can be said to better provided to LG ‘ Pro ‘version users.

Summary

Even with its 2k screen and simple design philosophy, G3 does not seem to be more attractive to consumers, compared with the visual impact of G2. Also, G3, with its G2 inherited design philosophy and adding a laser focus function, did not have a huge impact. I see it as more of a G2 maxed out version instead of a new smartphone. The G3 smartphone also relies on smart watches to achieve some of its new features, such as the LG Health application.

Talking about the brand, LG has been Samsung’s repression for awhile. The goal of achieving record-breaking sales, even with Samsung S5’s condemning release, Samsung has its advantages through its own industrial chain advantage, product features and its establishment of a strong brand in marketing, before today’s brand stickiness. The brands are inextricably linked and there is a gap between LG and Samsung in that respect. S5, as the competitive flagship product, and G3 also need to continue to catch up in terms of brand marketing.

LG G3 has not announced a specific release date and price, but from a configuration point of view, it will probably not be starting less than $600. If you are in the need to wanting to change phones, have you considered the G3 yet? I am looking forward to everyone’s views and comments.
